BuzzJack Music Forum _ Harry Styles and One Direction _ One Direction to take a break in 2016

QUOTE
ONE Direction will disband in March, The Sun can reveal.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have mutually agreed to an extended hiatus of at least a year to pursue solo projects.

The lads made the decision not to tour again at a meeting in London last weekend.

The world’s most successful band will NOT launch a tour to support their fifth album, a move likely to devastate their millions of fans around the world.

That means their last full concert will be at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on October 31.

Last night a 1D source said: “The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boyband.

“They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision.

“It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future.

“But for now it is the end and they go out on top as the world’s most popular music act.”

1D’s new album, which insiders say is their best yet, will be released in time for the lucrative Christmas market.

They are likely to make a host of TV appearances and performances before the end of the year to promote the release.

There will be a break over the festive season before the group come back together to fulfil the rest of their promotional commitments for record label Syco in February.

The insider explained: “Simon Cowell and his team at Syco couldn’t be more excited about the album.

“They believe there are at least three smash hit songs and they’ve got the boys to stay together for a few weeks beyond the end of the year to make the album a huge success.

“But there was a meeting recently where it was agreed there would be no tour for the album.

“That was a big call because it means come March, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall will be free agents for the first time in five years.”

The departure of Zayn Malik from the band in March is not behind the decision.

The insider insisted: “This was the plan with or without Zayn. In fact, the band have been making amazing music and been incredibly happy without Zayn.

“Of course they would have preferred that he had stayed in the band, but they would have taken this extended hiatus even if he hadn’t left.”

They are expected to go in very different directions, with negotiations about their individual futures set to begin in earnest in the coming weeks.

Sony bosses are desperate to sign Harry, 21, who is most likely to become the breakout solo star.

But band sources say he is also considering lucrative offers to launch a Hollywood acting career.

Irishman Niall, 21, is also believed to be interested in releasing his own music and was recently writing with friend Justin Bieber.

Liam, 21, has made it clear he doesn’t harbour solo ambitions and wants to concentrate on his growing songwriting, producing and DJ career.

Business-minded Louis, 23, is setting up his own record company within Syco and is likely to take a role on next year’s X Factor.

The 1D source said: “All the boys have a massive amount of options available to them. It’s an exciting time because for the last five years they’ve always put the band first.

“Sony definitely want to secure a solo record from Harry. He has been building up to this moment for a long time and there is also a lot of interest in him from Hollywood.

“But they’re all going to be successful in their own right. They have the best contacts and a massive fanbase.”

The insider added: “Louis is very much in contention to be a judge on X Factor next year.

“It would be a real coup for the show to sign a member of the band and it’s definitely something he is interested in doing.

“But this year the band’s touring schedule simply didn’t allow for it.”

One Direction have sold more than 50 million records and have more than 91 number ones across the globe.

They were the second highest selling music act in the world last year, shiftng 3.2 million albums, only topped by Taylor Swift.

But they make the most money from touring, having performed to more than 7.5 million people. They have each amassed a £25million fortune.

OMMENT By DAN WOOTTON, Head of Showbiz

THIS is the worst possible news for Directioners – 1D’s millions of diehard fans who want the band to stay together forever.

But the reality is that after five years working non stop and achieving unprecedented global success, something eventually had to give.

During that time, they’ve gone from teenage schoolboys to young men, with Louis soon to become a dad.

The good news is that, unlike many other band break-ups, the four remaining members do not hate each other.

That leaves the door open for a possible reunion in a couple of years.

Not all boy band breaks have to be forever – just ask Take That or Boyzone.

But March next year will definitely be the end of 1D as we know it.

My hunch is that they’ll all be mightily successful in their own right.

Harry is a music superstar in the making, Liam and Niall have become brilliant songwriters, and Louis’ ambition and business acumen is impressive.

It will be exciting to see what they do next.

They are talking about a meeting in London last week but Niall wasn't even in the UK last week.

It's all a bit THERE WILL DEFINITELY BE A NEW GIRLS ALOUD ALBUM IN 2010 ;o

Posted by: Calum Hood Aug 23 2015, 08:16 PM

If there's any truth in this, I really can't say it comes as a surprise. With one member leaving, no matter who it was really, I'd always have suspected they'd continue for another album and then go off and do their own things.

Blimey ohmy.gif

I hope they do come back soon enough. I'm still waiting for the Saturdays and N-Dubz to make a comeback sleep.gif

Sounds.... like rubbish to me so far? I'll wait for an official statement before believing it.

Besides, I don't believe Simon wouldn't want to cash in on a goodbye tour and greatest hits tongue.gif

I did think this would be their last album, but I thought they'd split up maybe after a summer Greatest Hits or something.

People have meetings using Skype etc. all the time, it's standard practice these days. (Obviously you'd prefer them to have been in a room together discussing it, but life isn't perfect.)

I'm not surprised tbh.

Who will replace them? There's not much boybands anymore which makes a change with two girlbands!

Dan Wooton is usually glued up.

Is anyone really surprised? I thought this was common knowledge. They had a 5 album contract. I dare say they might release a Greatest Hits next year, although it depends on what SyCo have planned really.

They all want to do something different, and who can blame them really. Think when they go on "hitaus" that will be it really, I can't see them getting back together again.

So much shit n Spin in tjat overlong article:

“It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future.

Which of course means it is.

Was only a matter of time when Zayne left. As soon as members start doin sólo stuff it's splitsville.

A 'Patience' would be better!

Posted by: Maurice Horan Aug 23 2015, 09:17 PM

I put my money on a return as 5 piece within 5 years. The boys who go solo Zayn/Harry and maybe Liam will have a successful 1st solo album then all the 1D fans have grown up and 1D are not cool anymore so 2nd solo albums will flop. The boys will do z-list things (CBB/Strictly) and then decide they are better as a group. Zayn will be ''like Melanie C 2007'' ''I will never perform with those boys again'' Simon tells how much they can earn with a reunion tour and then Zayn will be like ''a boy is allowed to change his mind''.

When I first read about this I was under the impression that they were breaking up immediately. Knowing that it's after this campaign, it's really not that bad. 'Headlines' was definitely a flop, but the comeback overall wasn't a flop by any means! The Return of the Spice Girls tour was hugely successful.

(Sensing some deja vu here kink.gif )

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Aug 24 2015, 07:45 AM

I called this ages ago. They've been saying forever that their fifth is their last album for a while.

Posted by: pippa Aug 24 2015, 08:07 AM

It is not a huge shock, but they should have just taken a break and said nothing and return, Take That took a 4 year break before releasing Three. They have announced it now, surely the 5th album is now a Greatest Hits, unless they release album 5 and then the Greatest Hits to coincide with their split.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry Aug 24 2015, 10:08 AM

I was thinking back when Zayn left that I wasn't that optimistic about the band's future. It's sad when you think about it, but in the end they're human beings. They just need a little time.

Sad to think of the prospect that we'll be losing 1/20 of the population from the ages of 8-18 tho

Posted by: pippa Aug 24 2015, 03:12 PM

Greatest Hits to be served as album 5?

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 24 2015, 03:21 PM

No it's already been confirmed as a full album tongue.gif

Still no confirmation of this, nothing mentioned at the OTRA date last night and no news from the Twitter or Facebook accounts either. Maybe they think it will just blow over like most 1D tabloid stories do?

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 24 2015, 04:26 PM

I'm sure they would have said something by now and confirmed it if this was true ?

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 24 2015, 04:51 PM

Some new songs as the tor continues! Love you all xx

Thank god for that being cleared up. We've been quite lucky to get an album a year for 5 years now so I can't blame them for taking a bit of time out, most artists tend to do one every 2 years or so after all!

Posted by: Calum Hood Aug 24 2015, 10:19 PM

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 'break' ends up being far longer than first anticipated though. Once they get into the rhythm of doing their own things, I doubt they'll be re-forming quickly, even if a reunion isn't completely out of the equation.

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 24 2015, 10:32 PM

It's all very Girls Aloud to me - the break will probably go on longer than planned, which is by no means a bad thing, but they will eventually reform.

Posted by: Maurice Horan Aug 24 2015, 10:43 PM

In perfect time to make place for #Spice20

Posted by: Rooney Aug 25 2015, 07:10 AM

I agree a break can mean lots of different things. 5 albums in 5 years is mad though, for their own sanity they need some extended time off to just relax and do their own things. Who knows if they will ever tour again in the forseeable future, but I can tell you one thing, I don't think there's as much bad blood as there was with the Spice Girls, and someone will throw a hell of a lot of money at them to make another album.

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 25 2015, 07:43 AM

I can see it being a Girls Aloud at worst - a break that ends up lasting ~3 years, followed by a reunion tour and GH, and then goodbye. But I can see this break being shorter and them releasing more albums after. I feel like, if it hadn't been reported, this would've just been seen as time off and would've gone mostly unnoticed.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry Aug 25 2015, 08:43 PM

I can see this being a good thing for them to churn out some new tunes that take time, but I'm not that optimistic; I'm thinking that this is the beginning of the end. Yeah, the boys really do need a break from the rabid fanbase endless work they've been doing for five years, but after solo projects, I'm really not expecting something huge. Sure there's a possibility of a Girls Aloud-styled reunion, but it's over.

My teenage years have literally revolved around this band, so it will be hard to see them go like this.

A full-on Big Payno remix compilation EP NEEDS TO HAPPEN tho.

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 25 2015, 08:53 PM

I'm not even massively fussed if album #5 is the last studio album we get, it would be a shame but as long as, when they reform, we get a PROPER goodbye, I'll be content. Not a f***ing Twitlonger either.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Aug 27 2015, 01:02 PM

Simon's basically confirmed a split.

No he hasn't tongue.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Aug 29 2015, 12:30 AM

The article states "Cowell also acknowledged that no definite timeline is in place for One Direction to eventually re-form".

Posted by: JosephBieber Aug 29 2015, 12:50 AM

Which is nothing to do with a split - it's just specifying that they're on a break for as long as they want and will reform when they're ready.

Posted by: Maurice Storan Aug 29 2015, 08:41 AM

Jess Glynne has hinted to work with Niall on her next album saying he is really talented and that she really wants to write/record with him.

Posted by: Ryan. Aug 29 2015, 03:59 PM

Interesting how it's already changed from "a year out" to "no definite timeline", I do think it's going to be a break along the lines of Sugababes 4.0 who eventually never reformed and most likely The Saturdays too. At the very most, it'll be a Girls Aloud style reunion for a few months but I can't see it arriving as quickly as Girls Aloud's reunion did.

Yeah I've been thinking the same, I really can't see them re-forming for quite some time. They'll all get absorbed by solo projects and won't be in any hurry to rush back to being One Direction.

Posted by: Ryan. Aug 29 2015, 04:05 PM

Yeah exactly, plus I can see Harry and Liam probably having some success solo so they'll be happy doing that for a couple of years - and maybe Niall too if Jess Glynne is on board! heehee.gif

Posted by: JosephBieber Aug 29 2015, 04:17 PM

I am quite sure they'll reform eventually. The demand will be there for them to reform, unlike the Sugababes who were doomed from the minute Keisha left and therefore no original members were standing. I'm expecting a Girls Aloud style reunion, with a greatest hits and a farewell tour/single.

Posted by: Maurice Storan Aug 29 2015, 05:15 PM

Hopefully they split up in a better way than Girls Aloud though. No twit longer as split up message but a press conference like Take That in 1996.

Posted by: JosephBieber Aug 29 2015, 05:23 PM

If they end up "doing a Girls Aloud", then I'd like them to announce their intention to split at the very beginning. So it would go like this:

- Press conference - announcement about the reunion, new single, GH, reunion tour, and then a permanent split after
- Goodbye single premieres and gets released
- GH album released for Xmas
- Farewell tour throughout the first half of the following year, followed by the split as planned.

Then the intention is made clear throughout and none of them lie through their teeth about it "not being the end" or w/e.

Posted by: JosephStyles Oct 6 2015, 09:52 PM

In a recent interview, Liam has said "We could never walk away from anything this good", with Harry adding "We're just not touring next year". This sounds very promising I think, it seems like they're keen to reunite in the not too distant future biggrin.gif

Posted by: Maurice Horan Nov 17 2015, 02:43 PM

Apparently the Brits 2016 will be their last performance before the break. They also won't release any solo albums during the break.

Posted by: pippa Nov 17 2015, 02:47 PM

They really did not need to announce anything, they could have released a single from the new album without promo, have the video pre-made before the break. Release a Greatest Hits in November and if they still felt they needed more time they should have waited to announce it then. I honestly believe it will only be a year long break. They are committing career suicide to let the band slip away. That said, if they are happy to leave it all behind and have some normal living it could be for the best, they are still very young, have their lives ahead of them and should be financially secure unless they have very badly invested and wasted their money.

Disagree completely - when they come back the hype will still be there. I think they have left their stamp on popular culture enough that they can survive a 2 year break. The way I see it, is they will probably release another album in Q4 2017. Just look at Bieber, he's taken a good year out of the spotlight, came back and re-invented himself.

I must admit I'm surprised that they won't be doing any solo stuff.. by that I'm imagining that they must have signed a new contract as a band with Syco? Guess they will just spend a lot of time writing.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam Nov 17 2015, 09:24 PM

I can't see them not doing solo stuff in the year off, more to get music out there that represents them completely, rather than that of 5/4 people, and designed to sell vast amounts. But we'll see I guess. I'll be pissed if they don't because some Harry solo material was the only silver lining in the break announcement for me cry.gif

Whatever they do, I hope they just get a rest, because like y'all have said, from 2012 they have just not stopped.

TBH I think they could take a 5 year hiatus, and still be relevant when they came back

Posted by: JosephStyles Nov 17 2015, 09:32 PM

I do want Harry solo music but I'm not too shocked that solo music from them doesn't seem to be on the horizon tbh, they really do need a break! heehee.gif The group does seem to be their priority still which is a very good sign.

Been denied by a spokesperson already. I'd be very shocked if this is actually the end after the fuss they've made denying it...

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 13 2016, 08:14 PM

To be fair to the guys, they're at a key stage in their life where anyone at that age is finding their feet and making the full transition into adulthood. Your early 20s can be an awkward and emotional time, especially as they've been at this since they were at high school age. I could understand if it did turn out to be the case that it's an "indefinite hiatus" and that they want to move on and do their own things.

Posted by: Slick Jan 13 2016, 10:52 PM

I am confident that they certainly intend to reunite. Whether they actually get round to it remains to be seen. And I'd say that goes for any pop hiatus.

Completely agree. I think they'll take a rest, dabble in some solo projects, and then just see what happens after, but i think they certainly intend to.
