Are the Spice Girls releasing a greatest hits this year? There was some talk a while back that it would be released this year and with it being 10 years since their debut, I thought it might make sense.
Ooh spice girls! excitin'! tho mel b off bo selecta! was always my fave!!! He he!!
ooh crabpaste!!!
I'd SO get it, I loved them
A Spice Girls greatest hits would be excellent, I'd definitely get it.
its been rumoured for ages but when its happening is hard to know
Hopefully it will be a dualdisc with all the videos on the dvd side.
The Greatest Hits has been popping up with different speculated release dates for a while now. I'm not even sure if it's going to happen anymore. I'd buy it if it does though!
To be honest I dont really care anymore. This rumour has been going on for years. I def would buy it because I loved them but I just wish they would just say yes or no so people know
Doubt it.
Whatever happened to "The Spiciest Hits" that was due out in Germany earlier this year? I thought it was confirmed
I hope it is out soon.. they all bar posh need a career boost.. bo selecta made mel b my fav too... oooo pats... i'v seen a bigger dick on a robin red breast
(FLASH MOVIE)
Bo Selecta Mel B is a legend.
Cant Wait.
Mel B's Bo' Selecta is ledge
look, its my new BOOK, and it comes with a free BOOKmark! you just have to LOOK for it!
so i said the geri, if you wanna leave the band, **** Off!
me and my friend beckii are obsessed with mel b from bo selecta, i think everyday of our lives we have either sed "oo ya bast*rd" "crab paste" or something along them lines lol.. "oOo pat do me front bum"
I know the spice girls are great and everything but do they really have enough songs for a greatest hits?? They've only released TEN singles, ok two of them were double A sides so i guess that's 12 songs, but that's still selling the fans a bit short... unless they were to record a few new songs for it?
it'll be unreleased tracks no doubt to fill it up unless u never know (spot the sarcasm) they surprise us
Nothings happening until next year now, probs just as well as there's soooo many GH out this year.
i think it will never happen its been put back so many times now
Well their 1980s equivalents' Duran Duran reformed their classic line up in 2002 after a 17 year break, so stranger things have happened.
I reckon the Spice Girls are waiting for Wembley Stadium to re-open.
As the that is the nearest that Posh Spice's husband is likely to get to playing again at Wembley.
Spices opt out against Westlife, Album release pushed back according to the sun
SOURCE: THE SUN
IT was all set to be the chart battle of the year.
On Tuesday night, the SPICE GIRLS announced to industry execs that they were going to release their greatest hits album on November 5.
Then yesterday WESTLIFE declared they too planned to put out their album on the same day.
But now POSH, SCARY, GINGER, BABY and SPORTY have sensationally chickened out of the chart clash and put back their album release to November 12.
The girls, or should that be ladies, have obviously not forgotten the hammering they got in the charts in November 2000 when they last went head-to-head with the Irish crooners.
The Loife album, Coast To Coast, sold 234,000 in the first week, compared with 71,000 for the Spice Girls’ Forever album.
I reckon the lads purposely waited for the reunited Spices to announce the release date this time round so they could go into battle and beat them again.
And the girls’ team were obviously worried enough to change the date to avoid a potential humiliation.
It would have been a tough one to call, however.
The advantage the girls have this time is the nostalgia surrounding their reunion tour.
The album Forever came after GERI HALLIWELL had quit the band and the songs simply weren’t good enough.
It’s a different story this time round though — the girls have a greatest hits with two new songs on it.
I wonder if the mischievous Westlife team will fancy putting their album back to November 12 to take on the Spice Girls?
Watch this space . . .
MEANWHILE the Spice Girls have added two UK dates to their tour due to “phenomenal public demand”.
Tickets for January 15 and 16 will go on sale from 10am on Saturday.
The girls will play the concerts at London’s O2 Arena after the 12 original shows sold out through their website.
December 15 sold out in 38 seconds — and tickets went on eBay for up to £750.
Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Posh and Baby Spice launch their world tour in Canada on December 2.
it would be absolutley disgusting if pestlife beat them like, i think it needed movin back a bit anyways.
URGH westlife need to get lost - The Spice Girls album will sell really well im sure
2 new songs on the GH?? Is that true, or just the Sun making rumours?
2 new songs we havent heard yeah Im sure of it
it will make the GH sell - because we all have there songs already this would make it worth buying
Seriously SG would have beaten WL this time I'm sure. But I think it's beter they pushed it back till the 12th Nov - it gives them more time to add extra songs !!
exactly and I want it to be a week of just the spice girls - I dont want a battle! it should be their week and their week only!
I think a battle would have been good.
Spice Girls would have won easily
but it would have been more promo and they would have sold even more that week
It would've been the same thing as last year unfortunately, when Westlife beat Oasis, U2 and the Beatles to #1.
i knew westlife would beat them a few years back but the spice girls would thrash them i think now as there is huge hype around the girls
I would never buy a westlife cd! lol
lol
hahahaa
Westlife rule even this year
It's best they pushed it back. If Westlife beat them it would be awful.
Westlife have had their day and they arnt as good as the spice girls so hopefully the spice girls will get a week to themselves in the charts
The Spice Girls will sell around 250k in their first week I reckon, Westlife around 225k. However in the second week Westlife will probably see a 75% decrease in sales, whereas the Spice Girls' is likely to be like 20-30%.
Spices would easily outsell them. This ain't 1999 anymore, plus Westlife have absolutely derailed their reputations as the world's leading karaoke group
But westlife were able to beat Oasis, U2 and the Beatles last year?
sure..... What about the new single of spice girls.??
Now their going against Britney & Celine?
tough battles always in the charts from november onwards
Spice Girls album on sale Sunday
12:46 | Thursday November 8, 2007
Source: MW
By Robert Ashton
EMI is to overlooking the usual retail traditions and put the Spice Girls Greatest Hits album on sale this Sunday.
The move, one day before traditional new releases are made available, gives the album an extra day of sales on the charts. It also follows the group’s unique partnership with Victoria Secrets - the US lingerie chain stocked the album.
Some key releases have previously plumped for different days of the week to create a buzz and a spokeswoman for EMI says putting the Spice Girls album on sale November 11 makes sense because the album has terrific “high awareness”.
She adds, “A lot of people are out shopping on a Sunday, especially around Christmas.”
im so looking forward to seeing what first week sales are like
I actually dont think this album is gonna do as well as many expect. I reckon leona will beat the album to no1.
Cant wait to buy it!
interesting move...perhaps all albums and singles should follow suit as all sales would count to the following chart
i'd like to see new releases out on a Sunday. The amount of times I've wanted something to be in store on a Sunday when I've been out =
They're only releasing this a day early because of Leona
It's gonna be a huge battle between the Spice Girls and Leona... and tbh I can see Leona winning.
well HMV still haven't dispatched my Leona album (last time they sent a pre-order out on the Wednesday before, and it arrived the day after release on Tuesday)
and Amazon are due to send my GH box set on Monday
I've got the Box set version on order from HMV, but I will deffo go out on Sunday and by the standard edition from HMV !! That is soooo cool!
the infamous friendship bracelet pictured below (Source - MistaChanel @ DenDen)
If it wasn't for the remix disc (and the guilty pleasure of the karaoke disc) I'd cancel the preorder and get the 2 disc instead
38 quid at woolies - no thanks!
HMV all the way lol
Mine hasn't been shipped yet. I'm sure the NUS card part will be fine cuz I've updated my account with new number which is in date. I'm just worried they won't give me something for £17 that they are selling for almost £30 now? I'll rest when it has been shipped!
surprised they haven't shipped it yet then considering it's out on Sunday now.
My Amazon estimated dispatch is the 14th
Maybe the box set is taking longer to arrive from suppliers? I'm guessing demand is probably quite high with very limited supply. I just hope HMV, amazon etc haven't taken more pre-orders than they have stock for!
my amazon has updated to items dispatching soon which means I can't cancel the order now (my wonderful bracelet is on the way)
I'll be buying this and Mika's 'Happy Ending' (at last) tomorrow!
I dunno if this will have much effect?
I'll be buying mine on Monday anyway.
Yay my gift box set was dispatched today from HMV with total cost being £16.19! Woooooooooooooo! Was so worried they would cancel it cuz of the cheap price when I ordered in September !
*taps fingers on desk*
COME ON AMAZON
*sigh*
not that a few minutes matter
i wonder will they manage to beat leona i think its goona be a tough battle for number 1 ,i bought the normal version of the album today in tesco as it out here in ireland since yesterday,my local cd shop isnt stocking headlines either so i have to order it online
I'm gonna go buy the regular standard CD version tomorrow. The gift pack one I'll want to keep the CD all nice and pristine in the gift box so I'll have the standard one to play in the car and stuff!
i do that alot when buying kylie and bon jovi albums i have a general copy and then one i put away and treasure
im sure u will have it for x mas
im gonna have 2 go to hmv b4 work 2moz then
I couldn't find the album anywhere today (HMV, Zavvi, Woolworths)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It must be wrong that the CD release date moved to Sunday, or the shops refused to sell it till Monday anyway!
So is it not worth me popping down to HMV later then?
I know that on the HMV website it says it's not available until the 12th...
nope it wasn't in Sainsburys either
Wasn't in the HMV I went in today
I'll be buying tomorrow.
POOP. I was looking forward to that
I walked all the way to town like 20 mins walk to get the CD and all! Sucks that they weren't selling today, but I'll have an excuse to go to town tomorrow on my way home! Planning to pick up Leona's and Celine Dion's new albums at the same time !
has HMV.com run out of stock on the standard CD and boxset or have they cost the Spice Girls any chance They are dispatching within 4 days rather than saying In Stock, like they are for the CD/DVD and Leona
I've just bought it on plain old CD.
Can I say how could they possibly have thought it was a good idea of releasing Headlines as a single when the uptempo Voodoo is miles better.
I think Voodoo is way too repetetive. I much prefer Headlines.
Voodoo might get released at the back end of the tour with the tour highlights making up the video
love it!!!!!
i got my copy earlier
I have it I got the CD & DVD and I'm watching the DVD now! As c**p as it is I sort of wanted the 'Headlines' vid, but oh well
The vids look really good as for some reason, have they been enhanced in some way? Thing is, whatever they've done backfires for the '2 Become 1' vid because you can see how cheap it is now
I'm enjoying watching this, I haven't seen some of these vids in years
I got the CD today!! I don't even think I saw the CD/DVD version in store. Actually forgot to look, but don't remember seeing it! I saw the gift set though, but didn't look too much cuz I want a suprise for when mine arrives !
Spice Girls: 'Greatest Hits'
Released on Monday, November 12 2007
By Nick Levine - Digitalspy.com
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a79868/spice-girls-greatest-hits.html
"Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz: this is for you," Victoria Beckham scribbles in the sleeve notes for the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits album. "Mummy was a popstar!!!" Whether you believe the official line - that the iconic girl group's second coming sprung from a desire to show the Spice sprogs how mummy paid for their Baby Gap clobber - is almost irrelevant. The reunion tour (and single, and album, and Tesco ad campaign…) might be motivated by financial necessity, a lust for attention or just plain boredom, but it was always going to happen.
None of the group's three albums was devoid of filler, and their singles tended to be their very best songs, so Greatest Hits is a very welcome addition to the band's canon. It tells the Spice story almost chronologically – 1999's 'Goodbye' brings up the rear of the collection for fairly obvious reasons – and without omission. Every single from 'Wannabe' to new tune 'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)' is included, alongside 'Voodoo', a second new recording, and 'Move Over', a "single" that fans purchased by glugging Pepsi in a way that compelled dentists across the country to finally treat themselves to that fortnight in Bali. They'd earned it, you know.
What's striking about Greatest Hits is how familiar it all is. At least ten of these 15 songs are burned on the collective psyche like Titanic, Blur v. Oasis and Jackie Stallone's entry to the Big Brother house. Fortunately, the Spice's floor-fillers have held up better than Ma Stallone's face, with 'Wannabe' remaining an exuberant calling card and 'Stop' still sounding like the best song that Motown never produced. New tune 'Voodoo' is the weakest here, coming on like the demonic lovechild of 'Who Do You Think You Are' and 'Spice Up Your Life'. It pinches the former's hen night disco and the latter's global rallying cries, but falls flat on its arse thanks to some truly ridiculous lyrics. Well, nobody wants to hear a thirtysomething multi-millionairess holler "Get up and use your voodoo, get your body to the floor", do they?
Rarely for a girl-group, the Spice Girls' slow 'n' slushies are probably their strongest suit. '2 Become 1' manages to combine every element of the perfect Christmas ballad – a touch of elegance, a hint of romance, a soupcon of sexiness and a generous sprinkling of sparkle – and still finds time for a coy safe sex message ("Be a little bit wiser baby – put it on, put it on"), while the wistful 'Viva Forever' makes a fitting swansong for Ginger, the Spice who jumped ship shortly before its release. Best of all is 'Goodbye', the supremely elegant ballad that became a post-Halliwell Christmas number one. Like all of these songs, it's so sturdily-constructed that you don't notice the vocal shortcomings of - cough cough - certain members. Thank heavens the girls' producers had the sense to place Mel C's Scouse caterwaul front and centre at all times!
Greatest Hits does flag a tad towards the finish, primarily because Rodney Jerkins' slick, stuttering R&B numbers from the Forever album ('Holler', 'Let Love Lead The Way') fail to capitalise on the girls' very British sense of mischief, but it functions brilliantly on two levels. As a document of late-nineties pop music, it's unbeatable, and as a collection of stonking great tunes, it comes pretty close. In fact, like all the great pop compilations - Abba Gold, The Immaculate Collection, The Sound of Girls Aloud - if you can't find something to like here, it's fair to say that you don't really like pop music.
4/5
4 out of 5 stars - I would give it 5 out of 5 lol
Easily 5
And i believe its booty to the floor lol ...please say im not wrong there
for any pop music fan its an esential album to have
That's brilliant Nice to see Girls Aloud get a mention too!
I love this line:
Greatest Hits TV ad - sorry if its been posted!
Its a confirmed track, and here are the lyrics;
Memories
Written By: The Spice Girls, Oliver Christiansen
Lets rememeber the times
Lets rememeber the rhymes
Lets rememeber the phases
Lets rememeber the crazes
go back to the years
listen from your ears
to the music's beat
that nothing could deafeat
lets remember the memories
go back to the melodys
lets remember the love (i cant forget)
go back far enough (i cant regret)
lets remember us together
together forever
you'll never need to know
why we love you so
go back to the years
through the tears
to the music's drum
it has just begun
lets remember the memories
go back to the melodys
lets remember the love (i cant forget)
go back far enough (i cant regret)
memories are done but still its just begun
remember, remember go back to the year
forever together come back over hear
lets remember the memories
go back to the melodys
lets remember the love (i cant forget)
go back far enough (i cant regret)
lets remember the memories
go back to the melodys
lets remember the love (i cant forget)
go back far enough (i cant regret)
Lets rememeber the times
Lets rememeber the rhymes
Lets rememeber the phases
Lets rememeber the crazes
I reckon its gonna be released in the summer as a download only track/1 week only... with a montage video to promote it, maybe it will be a double-download with "Woman" - it reminds me of Headlines!
this is definatley happening then? hmmm. I doubt it'll do well!
terrible lyrics.
It's a confirmed track indeed, but I doubt it'll gt a release...
I hope it's released cuz I heard from someone a few months ago that this song is really good and loads better than Headlines.
Its a track but isnt on the album?
Apparently there was a few songs recorded alongside Headlines and Voodoo....but maybe they kept the best one back for a goodbye single. Who knows? Someone on Digital Spy ages ago (back in October) said they have heard a song called 'Memories' and it was miles better than Headlines and was as good as the classic SG like Goodbye and Viva Forever..
the end is nigh
if they do release another single, im going to everything i can to get them to number one!!!!! ill spend £4000 if i have to! to ensure there are 40,000 units counting toward number one!!!
Oh I hope if it's released it's better than 'Headlines'
hire a plane and but varies copies in every record shop all over britain, then download it that way you would get away with it
rite! thanks people!! i bet i sound really sad but im getting that Number One tally into double figures!!!
I thought Memories was Headlines? Cuz I remember reading Headlines was originally called Headlines (Memories Never End)?
just seen a big flaw in the lyrics
hmmm hmmm hmmm
Hopefully those aren't the lyrics - they're quite awful
rememeber??
we spell it remember
that does it it must be fake if it's littered with mistakes
well if its fake its not my fault... i got it from denden forum!!
ive even made up a "viva forever" style cover... :-(
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg239/ROBJAMES18/memoriescd5.png
The song is real and does exist even if those lyrics are fake!
I don't think it'll ever see the light of day then
The song may be real, but it won't ever see the light of day. They obviously chose Headlines over Memories, as they're similar themes. They won't both be released.
So has there been any recent updates of the total gh sales? Also any other spice related stuff would be great if anyone knows them! Thanks
i think but im not sure the greatest hits sold 320,000 in the uk,,again im not sure
Any solo updates? Tho no point in askin cause im sure any recent solo sales will be poor!
Looks like we will be getting the GH on vinyl 🙏🙏🙏
https://www.merchbar.com/dance-electronic-edm/spice-girls
I saw a tweet about this today.
Is MerchBar legit?
Yep it is the place artists link to to sell products on their Spotify.
It is also up on Amazon now. Both say 31st May which is a Friday which is the start of a new tracking week for the chart so the release date checks out.
I've wanted Greatest Hits on vinyl for yeaaaars.
I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed about it being a picture disc though! That's a format that is more for aesthetic purposes, because they often sound... not great. Normal vinyl tends to suffer a dip in quality if more than 22 minutes of music is pressed onto one side, so a picture disc that has ~28 minutes of music per side doesn't fill me with confidence.
Of course I'll buy it, and I'm sure it'll look cute... but I don't anticipate playing it much.
So far, signs point to it being a US release... at least, Amazon UK lists the record label as Virgin Records US.
This description from this site: https://www.fatbeats.com/products/spice-girls-the-greatest-hits-lp-picture-disc also has a description that is catered towards their US chart stats (four top 10 singles) -
I've wanted a vinyl of the GH for so long so I'll take however it comes.
Pre-order has appeared on Amazon.fr & Fnac:
https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07QMB53C6
https://musique.fnac.com/a13504034/Spice-Girls-Greatest-hits-picture-disc-Vinyle-album
I'm feeling very impatient for this to become available to pre-order in the UK! Amazon UK is just a placeholder at the moment.
Wait so this is a limited edition of the GH? Here's hoping so and a normal vinyl will also be released later..
Oh no, a f***ing limited edition again.... watch it being snapped up and then go on ebay for like £2000...
What!!! Omg better preorder
Such a strange release.
Why making it limited edition? And a picture disk? And why does the Greatest Hits design have to be the same picture, font and overall aesthetic of a single that was released 10 years before it? What a mess lol
^ I really hope the mock up isn’t what it ends up looking like because it looks so fan made! Also “The” Greatest Hits when it should just be ‘Greatest Hits’ hmm.
Emma's official page just posted about it so I guess it is official
Here's hoping this is just a lame cash in of a limited edition and afterwards they release something actually interesting. This is pish so far lol
I've pre-ordered I'm not sure what else people were expecting. Hopefully a bog standard black vinyl edition will get released after this for HMV etc for casual buyers to pick up.
Pre-ordered, also if I'm not optimistic about its quality...
Where do you pre-order from?
The links to pre-order are on their social media posts about it.
It is number 3 on Amazon's sales chart 😱
Number one right now!
Great to see it at #1 on Amazon, but I’m still disappointed by how it looks. It’s very “fan-made bootleg” looking. Hmm~
From an audiophile point of view, shoving 15 songs onto one picture disc is going to sound pretty terrible.
So I dislike how it looks & it’ll likely not sound good...
... so of course I’ve preordered it anyway :’)
The picture disc is sold out everywhere bar Amazon and the social media links take you straight to Amazon now. If you haven't pre-ordered I'd do it now.
Pre ordered from Amazon today
It is still #1 on Amazon UK outselling Pink's new CD.
Pre-ordered my copy
Say nearly all the 2,500 vinyls are pre ordered when it's 'released' on the 31st May, will all those contribute to the UK chart?
Hopefully by the beginning of June the album will be given a boost too along with CD sales, downloads and streams. I hope it charts again.
There is a slight worry that Official Charts Company might count the vinyl sales separately from the CDs/Downloads/Streams, because that’s happened with some artists before. For example: Madonna’s Like a Virgin vinyl in 2017 & Kylie Minogue’s self titled in 2018 were regarded as separate entries, for some reason.
My concern with this vinyl is that it’s technically been given a new title, ‘The Greatest Hits’ instead of ‘Greatest Hits’, and that the label is “UMC - Virgin Domestic” [UMC = Universal Music Catalogue], rather than “Virgin Catalogue / EMI”.
We’ll find out in June
The 2.5k figure is sure UK only copies. It is being sold everywhere through out the world and has been as high as #2 on US Amazon, Amazon France etc.
There is no way there would be a copy left anywhere if the whole world was limited to 2.5k copies.
Pre-ordered mine yesterday
This image is circulating. Is it official?
Yes it is on Amazon now under pics of it. I like it combines lots of eras as it is the GH.
All eras but the Forever era
Well... it's certainly a mishmash of styles, leaning heavily into the retro. There's a very heavy emphasis on the Spiceworld era with a smattering of Spice era. I suppose in a sense the design is a greatest hits for their own eras and images (poor Forever x). I have to say, the 2007 GH era pic is very at odds with the rest of the design.
I still can't say I particularly like it though, unfortunately. I get why they've done it this way, but eh. Give me the stylish/sleek/timeless original Greatest Hits cover over this, any day.
Here's the full size image: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81LNPlVy4kL._SL1500_.jpg
I was hoping for little changes of the tracklist considering the "new" title "The Greatest Hits" ...like adding Step To Me and IYWHSF or NGUOTGT and deleting Voodoo...patience...in the end I'm happy for this "new" Spice release...
It is still number 1 on Amazon I'm a bit stunned tbh.
Also I've never liked the fact that Goodbye is at the end of the tracklist...and the fact that Holler is positioned after LLLTW...
Goodbye as the closer makes sense. I've always assumed Holler comes after LLLTW so it's not ballad heavy at the end. LLLTW, Headlines and Goodbye 3 of the last 4 songs is a bit much.
Wow still at number 1!!!
For the tracklist yes, goodbye at the end makes sense but I would have preferred all the tracks in chronological order, Goodbye after Viva Forever and Holler after Goodbye..but Goodbye after Voodoo for me is strange...however sorry, I'm probably delirious
I threw together a couple of concepts yesterday. Tbh I really would have preferred this, a normal vinyl & the original cover:
If it really had to be a picture disc, then I came up with this (I literally spent 2 minutes on this so it's not perfectly aligned)...
I thought that it still using the Greatest Hits era logo alongside the SUYL picture would tie it in more nicely with the CD, making it look less like it's cosplaying a Spiceworld era item.
Oh my your vinyl looks so pretty Jay
Still #1 on Amazon, it's been there for 32 hours now (and their chart is updated hourly, so it's selling consistently well!)
They are making everyone but cos they said it was limited edition .
Still number 1 on Amazon.
Seems like it's sold out on Amazon UK, it's not been in stock since before midday... so seems like it really was limited.
To be honest I wish it wasn't limited, clearly there's notable demand for it!
Meh, a 4 week delay & I assume this mean it's no longer going to be a limited edition like it was initially supposed to be.
This release is a bit of a mess to be honest. I don't care if it is limited edition or not, personally it doesnt bother me. But loads of fans/collectors are pissed off. Technically this makes it false advertisement. Maybe the new batch will still be limited, but probably not..
Only to be expected limited to now 10,000’coies or something probably .
Why push the date back? Why not just release more copies but keep the release date the same? I actually cancelled my order as I was skint but I might reorder another once I get paid now.
The amount of angry fans on Instagram is hilarious. So annoyed that more people are getting them... selfish much or what?
But if something is stated as being a limited edition and a specific amount of copies is stated (2500), then you order it, and then it’s sold out, that really should be it.
It borders on unprofessional to completely change the goal posts by changing the release date quite significantly (a month’s delay) and clearly extending the run beyond 2500. Technically the first 2500 copies sold were misrepresented, it was false advertising. I think it’s fair if plenty of people are annoyed.
Sure, there may be some fans that bought more than one for profit (that’ll be the case with any artist releasing a limited edition) but there’ll also be those who just bought one who’d be happy to have something special. I don’t think it’s a case of selfishness. It’s always first come first serve for these sorts of releases. Or at least, almost always. This Greatest Hits Vinyl is an exception to the rule, I’ve very rarely seen a limited edition with a specific run be extended and increased.
Britney’s Baby One More Time Vinyl was limited to 2500 copies and sold out fast. They never added more copies of that original version. However a second version was released with a different colour vinyl and a modified cover, this time with a 10,000 copy run. Eventually it was released on picture disc too. So the label / store stuck to their word with the “limited to 2500” but provided alternatives for those who missed out. This is what Spice Girls should have done with Greatest Hits. Made the first 2500 unique in some way, and then put out a modified version that’s more widely available.
The pushed back release date annoys me more. Originally scheduled for mid way through the tour, it would have provided a significant boost during a time when the group is active & prominent. Now it’ll just provide a random boost once everything has died down again.
Now watch as certain Antipodean slimebags that call themselves 'journalists' get wind of this and use it as another IKSKLUSIV STARRY ON LERRAINE YER GOIZZZZ about how this reunion is all going to shit or something.
On a positive note - I get it the same time as Kylie's new best of on vinyl. Aces
That Britney example though Jay, those original 2,500 are probably being resold for a fortune and it kinda scammed fans into buying 2 editions as well.
Yes the Spice Girls vinyl wont be super rare now but those who ordered it wont have another edition released that they would want/need for their collection.
I honestly don't mind my vinyl being limited or a few weeks late, I've waited 12 years for it 4 more weeks wont kill me. Also all fans will get the chance to buy it too which I like.
They just shouldn’t have claimed it was limited edition in the first place tbh, bad tactic. If something is limited then that really should be honoured.
Not quite lighting up the Amazon chart like it did during its first moment of availability, it's currently #25 in their music chart. Haven't checked too regularly but it was #25 a few hours ago too.
Edit 5am GMT: #24
This was put on sale earlier this week in Mexico, possibly by mistake, so some fans have their copies already.
I've just had an e-mail - it's been pushed back AGAIN to July 5th. What the hell are they playing at?
The delay is annoying when it’s apparent that the copies have likely been hanging around for weeks already. What are they waiting for? Mexico accidentally put copies on sale in late May lol.
It might have been a delay in production, not necessarily the girls fault...
"They" in this case is their label/distributors, not the girls themselves of course. This item has been in existence for weeks, they're likely to be hanging around in warehouses at this point for no apparent reason, just waiting to be shipped. I'm intrigued as to why they're delaying it 1 more week. The CD/Download/Streaming sales will be so low again at that point. Such a wasted opportunity~
What the hell? I haven't even been messaged about it yet, I've already paid for it too, they need to get a bloody move on
I got it. It's not delayed, at least on fnac.com
I also ordered on the site of the fnac, fnac me charged yesterday.
I hope to have it tomorrow!
Mine (from Amazon Italy) will be delivered on 9 July
I ordered from amazon US and mine is coming tomorrow
Mess at the differing release dates! Definitely 5th July in the UK
There is a video from the unboxing in youtube, if you want to watch it.

Thanks for posting that!
I still think it looks really badly designed & cheap looking As for the quality of the vinyl itself, I've read some saying that the sound is quiet/that it lacks bass/that surface noise can be heard... which was predictable. You just don't shove that many tracks onto one vinyl disc if you can help it, and certainly not onto a picture disc.
*Continues to dream of a normal vinyl pressing, across 2 vinyl discs, with the original cover*
I actually think it looks better than I expected... tempted to buy one now lol
Anyone's been dispatched from Amazon yet? Says mine is arriving Wednesday but hasn't actually been sent out even though it was supposedly released on Friday, 🤷🏼♂️
The Spice Girls should be right back up the chart when we see the midweek information later today.
Mine arrived Saturday from Amazon, seems they are still struggling with stock though as you have a 1 to 3 week wait if you order this week, which is bizarre on release week.
#21 on the midweek album charts
I had thought it may start the week in the Top 15.
With the news so far, staying Top 30 looks like the best outcome it will have for this week.
All that extra time to produce more and Amazon are out of stock and saying delivery will be between 1-4 weeks If there are no further copies then this will plummet as the week goes on - such a mess of a release.
They really should have released it in one of the weeks while they were on tour those extra sales could have pushed it up!
It hasnt had the best release but it is adding sales which is the positive.
Absolute joke, been pre ordered since May and can't even get it out a few days after the pushed back dates
The mids might be a little deceiving though as if many of these copies (like yours jay) aren't getting dispatched they surely wont count towards this midweek?
I feel like this will not be front loaded as they are obviously struggling to get enough copies to send out to everyone. So the next few days, weeks the sales might be more steady.
I’ve never been certain whether a sale doesn’t count until it’s dispatched, or if it’s just automatically counted when its nominated week of release begins. Here’s hoping the low-ish figure means a lot of copies haven’t been counted yet though!
If released during the tour and combined with CD sales etc this could have helped them get top 10.Still good to them in the charts though.
I understood once it is paid for it counts as a sale.
Finally received it today
It's... well, it is what it is. I'll continue to dream about a proper vinyl with original artwork.
Big jump in the midweek chart today as they move up to Number 11.
Could a return to the Top 10 happen now?
Where can I see the new midweek?
It is in the chart forum called Friday predictions.
Wow that's a big jump, dispatch must have been holding it back. I meant to go grab a copy today will try get one tomorrow from HMV.
Yep as I thought a sale doesn't go through until it dispatches. Great to see it at number 11, hopefully it stays top 15 at least. It so nice to see it wracking up so many weeks in the chart.
A top 10 would be great. Again, a real shame it didn't happen with Wembley. It would have happened if they'd stocked the CDs better and had the vinyl ready when there was a lot of activity during the tour with streaming and downloads.
When you think it's likely to stay top 20 now, it just goes to show how high they could have gone during the tour if they had got this out then. On the plus side it is helping to lengthen it's chart performance...
It's definitely a shame that the vinyl release date didn't stay as being during the tour. I think Greatest Hits would have made it to around #7 or #8 instead of low Top 20.
Oh well, another Top 20 week will be nice, fingers crossed Top 15. It'll be its 8th week inside the Top 20. It'll also be its 70th week in the Top 200! That's a huge improvement from the mere 14 weeks it stayed in the Top 200 in 2007/8.
In theory the GH really should have done much better in 2007/8 than it actually did. [02-07-12-13-22-27-29-34-36-39-41-67-107-138-out] was its chart run. The 17 O2 dates & 3 Manchester dates took place during the 22-27-29-34-36-39-41 section of the chart run. It left the chart in February 2008 on about 360,000 copies sold, which really wasn't a great result for how strong the market was in the late 00s. We had to wait 11 years for it to reach the more respectable total of 600k!
I think a mistake made with the GH was lack of promotion for it specifically. I know there were a couple of performances & an advert, but they should have done a couple of high profile TV interviews like Graham Norton & Jonathan Ross (both shows were airing in Q4 2007) and ideally performed on those shows too. In fairness their schedule with tour rehearsals & Mel B being on Dancing with the Stars wasn't exactly ideal.
I suppose it could be argued that Spice Girls - Greatest Hits wasn't a desirable purchase for any casual fans who owned copies of Spice and Spiceworld. Yet having multi-platinum studio albums didn't prevent Westlife selling huge numbers of their GH. Their first GH from 2002 has sold almost 1,900,000, and even their second Greatest Hits from 2011 has managed to sell approaching 700,000.
Thanks Jay for the info. Yeah it seems to be generally a lack of promo that made the GH a really slow seller. Always astonished at the lack of interest from the group on the promo for the album, really.
Never understood why they didnt do a big interview last time either. Graham Norton would have been ideal! And even now, they could have done a couple of interviews around the tour as well.... nada...
Touring obviously brings the big bucks that 20k a year of sales of an album doesnt, but if they put more effort into it, it would obviously generate a bit more!! Sad days...
If they ever release new music - lol - I hope they will get behind it properly and release it properly.
A lot of what holds them back these days is whenever they reunite there is the feeling that they are only doing it temporarily. So if it feels like the girls aren't totally invested in being a group why should people be.
I must admit as I got the vinyl the other day I thought yay nice but it all seems to have fizzled into nothing again so it will probably be a one off release.
To be fair, that GH vinyl is probably their most boring release yet - and I include Headlines on that.
I dont think it is boring, vinyl is in and it has been stocked well and prominently in a lot of places.
No, I meant the vinyl itself is a boring release - nothing added to it with a recycled design from a previous single. Thta's all. I wish it would have been a more interesting release, with the same design as the CD (or similar), and maybe a couple of extras.
Oh well...
I'm not sure a vinyl release of a Greatest Hits is the place to add extras. The design is subjective, I think a plain black vinyl with the original cover would be cool too and I'd defo get one as well if it got released.
I'm happy I did not buy this. Crap design on top of crap sound - I know they don't count on anyone actually playing these things, but I actually do play vinyl. In fact, sometimes because I think it sounds better than the alternatives. That they can't get that right, well...
Got mine yesterday finally. Probably get played once 😂just another thing to add to the collection I guess. Hope it's stayed top 15 in the charts tonight mind
The Greatest Hits has officially entered at #15
That’s good another week in top 20 I am pleased with that. Shame they didn’t maximise it with a release during the tour so they could have had another week in the top 10!
I had a go at designing what I would have liked the Greatest Hits vinyl to look like! Basically something that complemented the CD release.
I would have had the release as a 2xLP, in white coloured vinyl, in Gatefold packaging.
Front Cover
Simply the CD artwork!
Perhaps it could have a hype sticker on it that is similar to the
one used on the picture disc, if the record label wanted an image
of the girls to be shown on the front of the release.
Back Cover & Spine
I actually like the back cover of the picture disc, so I decided to use
it for this. I just edited the track list, to reflect that it's spread across two discs.
Front Cover & Back Cover Gatefold
Gatefold Inlay
This would be what you see when you open up the gatefold
packaging. I'm not a huge fan of this collage tbh, it's pretty lazily designed,
but I'm no graphic designer so I couldn't do anything better. I suppose at
least it would be in keeping with the Greatest Hits CD to use the same collage!
First side of the sleeve for Vinyl 1
Second side of the sleeve for Vinyl 1
I scanned the pages from both the Greatest Hits CD & the Karaoke CD
to get the lyrics, thanks yous, credits etc. If this was for a real release, then I would
have liked different backgrounds behind the lyrics than what was used in the CD sleeve, so it
wouldn't just look like 9 squares put together. To redesign this myself would have been
way too time consuming though!
First side of the sleeve for Vinyl 2
Second side of the sleeve for Vinyl 2
The grey square at the top is the full Stop lyrics from the Karaoke booklet. The purple square
is from the Greatest Hits CD and has some of Stop's lyrics on that, plus Viva Forever & Let Love Lead
the Way. It was too complicated to try and edit out the Stop lyrics, but if I knew how to do that then
the purple square would just be Viva Forever & Let Love Lead the Way lyrics.
Vinyl 1 Side A
I thought it would look nice to use the Spice Ring from the back cover on the vinyl discs as well!
Vinyl 1 Side B
Vinyl 2 Side C
Vinyl 2 Side D
The time length of each side:
Vinyl 1 Side A: [14 minutes 34 seconds]
A1. Wannabe
A2. Say You'll Be There
A3. 2 Become 1
A4. Mama
Vinyl 1 Side B: [13 minutes 16 seconds]
B1. Who Do You Think You Are
B2. Move Over
B3. Spice Up Your Life
B4. Too Much
Vinyl 2 Side C: [11 minutes 55 seconds]
C1. Stop
C2. Viva Forever
C3. Let Love Lead the Way
Vinyl 2 Side D: [15 minutes 01 seconds]
D1. Holler
D2. Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)
D3. Voodoo
D4. Goodbye
One side of vinyl having 18 or less minutes on it is ideal, and will result in excellent sound quality - so spreading their hits across two discs would really have given the songs room to breathe. I'm still disappointed at their label deciding to cram 27/28 minutes of music on each side of one picture disc. Even on normal vinyl that amount of music on one disc would have still compromised some of the quality, but nevertheless would have sounded better than on picture disc.
As far as I'm concerned a picture disc is primarily for display purposes and not something to bother playing. In my opinion I don't find the Greatest Hits picture disc very visually appealing unfortunately.
If the label insisted on picture disc, I would have preferred it to look like this (I posted a similar mock up a few months ago):
I think using the Greatest Hits era logo & having the full picture printed on the disc would have been a better choice! At least it would seem more in keeping with the CD. I'm not keen on the cropped out feet on the actual picture disc. Having their shoes printed on the sleeve instead was a tacky choice imo.
#1 on the UK vinyl album chart! Number 15 on the overall chart, impressive.
Love the design, Jay.
I always assumed like most vinyl releases it would be the same as the CD version.
I really hope the GH has another week on the charts - top 10 would be a dream. The album deserved the #1 spot too
No sign of the greatest hits here on the Irish chart this week but thankfully the tour helped it get a new peak here a few weeks ago.
I kinda like the vinyl is different to the CD. A vinyl that basically copied the CD design would be a bit boring. Though I do love the GH CD cover, so maybe a plain black vinyl with the original cover might be nice too.
Jay for President of Spice World
! yes please *.*
Omg I love your design Jay!! I just might forgive you for contradicting me in the Kylie thread about Brit Awards
The vinyl made number 1 on the Australian vinyl chart. Not sure how many other vinyl charts from other countries there are but worth checking them.
GH Vinyl Charts
UK #1 (OCC)
Australia #1 (ARIA)
Italy #2 (FIMI)
United States #7 (Billboard)
Wow at #7 on the US vinyl chart, that is seriously impressive, wonder how many copies it has sold.
Yes I couldn’t think of any countries so then I went on Billboard. I’m hoping #7 means some good sales.
Would love to know the current total of the GH in the US? I wonder what their steaming numbers are like?
Wow #7 in the USA is awesome!!
The OCC tweeted about the GH going to number 1 on the vinyl album chart with a link to the chart this afternoon. It is a big deal and I feel like we should all like and RT it to get their social media to notice it. Here is the link to it if you want to like or RT -
https://twitter.com/officialcharts/status/1150359312449056768?s=19
How funny that this thread started as a rumours thread in 2006 Wonder where the GH would have charted or what it would have looked like in 2006?
It is amazing to think how the GH has become a bit of a classic album now. It has been so nice to see it have a great chart run now and be double plat.
I feel like the social media could do more to push it though, they need to look at the GH as a big success now that should be shown off and promoted.
Dutch vinyl album chart #2
The GH is at #292 on the US iTunes chart. Hopefully the vinyl release has boosted some of the download sales too
Touch and Go if the album is in the official UK Top 100 today.
GH at #238 in the US now. Kworb says it’s up 1042 places. Hope people keep downloading and streaming the album
It would be good if it can keep climbing in the US and make even a small impact on the chart there.
Out of the Top 100
If there is no promo, we cant really expect much more to be honest. The GH has had a good run so far this time, better than in 2007! Im sure it is somewhere in the Top200 but without the record company promoting it, it will do f*** all from now on until the girls do more things in the UK...
In large it has performed highly well.
I just don't like the dropping out from Number 15 this week straight out of the Top 100.
It's a pretty bad drop. And also the vinyl chart is bad too lol after a #1 it would have been nice if it could hang around the top10 this week but naaa
Tbf it goes 1 - 28 on the vinyl album chart but had 16! new entries above it.
Is there much of the vinyl left available?
Was it a limited release,?
It originally was (supposedly) but it became a general release after the initial run sold out.
GH is at #150 on iTunes in the USA. This is for downloads and not vinyls though so I was wondering how many copies that would have to be to appear in the Top 200?
The CD is £2.99 on Amazon atm which is an absolute steal
The vinyl will be a part of HMV’s vinyl sale from tomorrow! It’s going to be just £9.99!
Bargain might get a 2nd copy to keep sealed.
It would be interesting to know how much the Picture Disk has sold by now, since it is no longer a 'limited edition'.
I am still hopeful one day they will actually do a proper vinyl of the GH. What a waste if not...
Annoying I was going to buy the GH on vinyl but it’s not showing on the website! Won’t be able to get into town to visit the shop this week!
Greatest Hits vinyl is currently £14.11 on Amazon!
£13.88 on Amazon now the GH vinyl.
Now £13.70 lol, steadily decreasing! Pretty certain this is the cheapest price it’s ever been online.
It’s up to #330 on Amazon’s best sellers list. I think I remember seeing it at 1700-ish yesterday.
If they price matched HMV at 9.99 I'm sure it would go top 100 on Amazon for a few days as people snapped up a copy.
If they price match HMV I’ll buy a copy!
Greatest Hits Picture Disc reduced to £12 on Amazon UK, their lowest price to date: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07QMB53C6
The GH picture disc is now £9.99 its lowest ever on Amazon
Greatest Hits [VINYL] https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QMB53C6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_POO7DbQN1D431
A bargain!
I was biding my time for months to buy a second copy of the picture disc to keep sealed, and I finally got one during the £12 deal during Black Friday. If only I'd waited a couple more weeks lol, never mind.
GH vinyl is #281 on Amazon at the moment!
I’ve put it on my Christmas list I better flipping get it now!
Greatest Hits' single 'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)' was released 13 years ago - 5th November 2007! This was its download release date - the physical CD followed 2 weeks later.
Their last ever single
I've always enjoyed Headlines I think the instrumental is absolutely gorgeous and they all sound so good vocally. The live tour version with the guitar is also great, glad we got a good version of it with the Radio 1 broadcast.
I do wish they had pushed it more than they did. Strictly was just waiting for a Headlines performance to give the single that big kick it needed to be Top 10 and potentially stick around the charts for a while.
I can see why they went for 2 Become 1 though its their classic festive time hit and the dancers on the show are 2 becoming 1.
The less said about the MV the better
Greatest Hits was released 13 years ago on this date! 12th November 2007. Spice Girls went head to head with Leona Lewis’ debut album. Leona massively outsold them, but they still managed #2 with over 75k first week sales.
What were the expectations for the greatest hits at the time? I'm sure no-one expected them to outsell Leona but 75k seems a little low for 2007's standards?
I can’t remember what I predicted/expected at the time, or what was generally expected for it, but looking back - I definitely think the Greatest Hits underperformed in 2007! Only 2 weeks top 10, and being outside the Top 20 during Christmas shopping weeks... hmm, on paper it should have done better. From memory it ended the year on about 350k... which seems decent in today’s terms, but not particularly amazing in 2007. I’d be interested to know what Virgin/EMI expected at the time. I do have a feeling it wouldn’t have matched their expectations.
With hindsight, I wonder if 2007 was a little too early for nostalgia to have properly kicked in for their hits? The tour did well of course, but perhaps for the general public (particularly adults who were 30+ at the time) it was too soon to desire a collection of their singles?
It’s funny because I remember feeling in 2007 like it had been an eternity since the Spice Girls were together. But now I look back and think it was “only” 7 years since Forever! I suppose that’s because I’m getting older and 7 years is starting to feel like it’s not a massively long time ago.
Safe to say it really wasn’t a Take That - ‘Ultimate Collection’ success!
It didn't help that the new songs were way below par their previous material.
I suppose it was also 'only' 10 years since their heyday too, so perhaps the people who would be interested in the collection still had their first two albums to revisit instead? Must be a combination of things, but as you pointed out it seems odd that Take That's greatest hits sold so well a couple of years earlier, especially when they already had a greatest hits collection.
I've had a look back on this thread; turns out this album was meant to be released the week prior but was pushed back because Westlife were releasing the same week (Westlife previously beat the girls to #1 in 2000). Seems that most people here presumed the girls would easily outsell them, however Westlife debuted with 132k.
Not sure why it was thought that Spice Girls would fair any better against Leona Lewis though. It also appears that 'Greatest Hits' had an extra day of sales as it was released on the Sunday rather than the Monday, like standard practice.
I didn’t remember it coming out on Sunday That’s interesting. I never really understood why most albums didn’t come out on a Sunday. It would have been a slow sales day I suppose, but shops were still open. New albums denied themselves a day of sales. I’m sure Girls Aloud - Chemistry would have gone Top 10 if it had been out on Sunday
I’m glad they avoided Westlife, losing another battle with them would have been too much to cope with
Headlines was definitely a dissapointment, and I think the strategy for the GH was terrible, hardly any promo or interest anyway...
Im glad it has catched up in terms of sales, but at the time, the whole thing felt like a dissapointment:
1. Headlines as a lead single
2. Headlines video being BAD
3. Promo was almost non existant apart from a couple televised mimed performances (and only then, Headlines only got ONE performance)
4. GH package was terrible. Only two bad new songs available? Friendship bracelet? That pink box was awful too. No sense of legacy, I thought. It all felt like it was just thrown out there with little care.
Having said that, it's a GH packed full of BOPS (bar the new songs lol)
I bet more people are listening to the Spice Girls Greatest Hits nowadays than Spirit by Leona Lewis.
Problem for the GH is people wanted a new album in 2007 not a GH. It has become iconic now though and has the double platinum certification it deserves.
Im glad they went with the logo cover not a 2007 pic.
The pink box, no comment.
The promo wasn’t great. No group interview on GMTV, This Morning, Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross etc. They only performed Headlines a couple of times, along with Stop and in 2007 there wasn’t really any 90s nostalgia. By the end of 2008 the GH’s total was rather underwhelming now it’s over 650k it’s a much healthier looking total.
As for the Headlines campaign it was so silly to release the physical cd two weeks after the digital release and one week after the GH came out. Bizarre
I really want to hear Spice Is Back that they recorded for the GH. Melanie C said it was great in a fan interview from a few years ago. The song has the same vibe as Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life. It was written by all 5 girls and Mel C's guitarist, Greg Hatwell.
Its actually good that they even got a greatest hits out when they did pre streaming. There seems less motivation to put out Greatest Hits CDs nowadays which is sad, I'm glad they have one out there that will continue to clock up sales over time.
The GH should pass 700k next year especially if we actually get something to celebrate Wannabe's 25th anniversary.
I actually really like 'Headlines'! I can see why the record label chose it given the girls had achieved three huge wintry ballads in the 90s, but I can also appreciate that fans at the time must have been really hyped for another 'Spice Up Your Life'. Perhaps if 'Headlines' was left as an album track to close the greatest hits with (or even released as a second single), it would be better appreciated? I also think they look great in the music video, but again it's not what I imagine fans were wanting.
I dont believe we have any information on the writing of Voodoo and who was most or least involved.
Emma and Geri were indeed the main ones behind Headlines though I recall Mel C wrote her verse.
If they really wanted to record two Biff Stannard songs for the GH, they should have used the scrapped songs he did for Victoria's unreleased 2nd album. All of them are much better songs than Headlines and Voodoo.
Hustler
Flow
Be With You
Bittersweet
Give It All Away
I Should've Known Better
I never understood the reason of the inclusion of the Move Over album version in the GH.
Shouldn't Move Over Live in Istanbul be considered the true single version? Does anyone knows if the album version was included in some editions of the Pepsi single CD?
Yeah Move Over was included to bump up the track list and it was probably the most well known non single to the average Joe as it had the Pepsi commercials.
It would be a shame not to include Move Over
By the way, Move Over > Step To Me.
Def would have gone number 1 at that time as they were just so huge then.
They could have milked Spice a little more. In hindsight it was a missed opportunity not to release another single in June or July 1997.
If U Can't Dance/Move Over double-A side would have been perfect. Those two songs compliment each other well.
If Love Thing was going to be a single then they would have to remix it. Perhaps the single mix could have been the studio version from the Istanbul show.
I like Move Over, but I think there's a fact that's been somewhat lost to time. That main hook of the song existed in a Pepsi commercial before the Spice Girls and their team took it...and built the rest of the song around it. I might feel differently if this were a situation like Madonna and Like A Prayer...where the song was created on its own and just so happened to be used in a Pepsi commercial. But since Move Over's life began as a soft drink song? Nah, I prefer that it wasn't ever a single. As soft drink songs go, though...I think it's about as good as they come. If you weren't around in the 90s, I'm sure you could listen to the album and have no idea about the soft drink connection.
As for Step To Me, I believe I remember hearing it got 'okay' radio play in the UK (lower top 40, I think?). For me, it'd be a little unusual for them to have left Step To Me off the first album (it's among their early demos), only to later decide to release it as a single. On the plus side, the song plays well to the stronger performers in the group...and may have allowed for some more good live performances. That's where that song really came into its own anyway.
Would whatever they released at that time been a hit? Probably. But I'd also argue the nine singles they released from 1996 to 1998 were all really strong. And for me, it's probably for the best they never tried out anything weaker. I figure the closest thing we got to the group trying to carry a 'meh' single during Spice mania was their involvement with How Does It Feel To Be On Top Of The World (though I'm aware they're only featured on that)
No, no, no! You are all wrong. Outer Space Girls is the ultimate bop that should have been a single but never was.
We all know what song should have been on the greatest hits.
Can you truly love a #1 single? 😁
14 years ago today they released Greatest Hits!
I adore this, the actual perfect album with so many highlights... its up there with Finest Selection by The Saturdays.
Headlines is also so under-rated! Such a perfect Spice Ballad.
What are the most recent sales total for this?
Isnt it nearly 700k?
I think the Greatest Hits will eventually be a million seller in the UK and jt surely deserves to be.
690,219 on 5th November!
I wonder how it was possible for them to underestimate Leona at that point! (I can't believe Bleeding Love and Spirit was 14 years ago too )
The Greatest Hits >>>> Spirit
Bleeding Love >>>> Headlines
They deserved to be #1
Does anyone happen to have a file of the extended version of “Headlines”? I believe it was fan made! (Side note— Headlines is one of my favorite songs ever ;__;)
Happy birthday Greatest Hits!!
Few Greatest Hits actually do justice to their name, but that album is packed with actual hits back to back Plus, I love the cover. I know a lot of people didnt like it cos the girls were not on the cover but I think this was actually really nice as it made it more timeless.
Personally, and as usual with the Spice Girls, I found the whole campaign was a bit lacking with shit promo and two new songs that were subpar. Then that awful delux box was just terrible design all together.
A shame that in the grand scheme of things, it hasnt sold as much as it should. At least it is almost at 700,000 copies which I guess is pretty ok. At the time, it was a bit of a flop...
Neither voodoo nor headlines should have been released at all ah
It was obvious both werent really a group effort like in the past but just a clear attempt to make something 'similar' as before. With time, I have learned to appreciate Headlines more. Certainly the HQ version of the video on their YT channel elevates it and it did come alive when they performed it at the 2007 tour.
Cant wait for GreatestHits25 campaign to get the exclusive extended mix of Headlines (Friendship Never End) and Spice Is Back
The best decision they ever made was not having the girls on the cover of the GH. It's now a classic cover and stands the test of time. Imagine the GH with a blonde Posh and the mess that was Geri's hair in 2007 and that Mel C fringe #shudders
I remember denden being so extra about the album not having the girls on the cover.
I thought Melanie C looked fantastic during the reunion in the photo shoots and the conference. Emma looked a bit mumsy but she was heavily pregnant so she can be forgiven. The other 3… nope!
I totally agree re them not being on the cover best decision of the whole era.
That photo encapsulates all my issues with the 2007 reunion and tour it's just not very Spice.
This one is probably the only promo picture I enjoy from that era, but it is still very boring isnt it? Id swear that it looks like a Mel B stand in rather than our Scary Spice lol
Mel b needs the curls and Mel C with her ponytail or they all look a bit too similar I think. They could easily be The Saturdays or Fifth Harmony in the pic above.
Love Melanie’s fringe. She’s got a big forehead so it’s legit.
Also - I think it was good to re-introduce themselves as people and not characters. They all looked fab minus Geri flower dress. All 5 were beautiful.
'Greatest Hits' was released in the UK on Monday 12th November 2007. 15 years ago today!
I often say it but these anniversaries freak me out a bit, how long ago it's all becoming. I remember that pre-2007, a hot topic for Spice Girls fans was when or if they'd ever release a Greatest Hits album. The seemingly endless wait for them to ever reunite. It kind of felt like neither would ever happen. All of a sudden it's 15 years since they first reunited and released the Greatest Hits. And that the GH was "only" 10 years after Spiceworld, 11 years after Spice.
It reached #2 in the UK (Leona Lewis - Spirit entered at #1). It went on to certify double platinum and has sold over 700,000 in the UK.
So glad that reunion happened because it was the time that brought them together as friends again (if not as music collaborators, sadly...)
I love the cover and it hindsight it was a clever move for a GH, as it is quite timeless (and it avoided having that awful blong hair from Victoria or Geri's curls of the time lol...)
They would do well to do another one at some point, with Step To Me added and some others? Remove Voodoo from the next one, no-one needs it, and bring in some other unheard tracks.
Interesting that they acknowleged it, but would it cost them a lot to include 'Stream it now' and a link to a streaming service, alongside this?
Gotta say that just hearing Headlines on this made me nostalgic for it lol
I'm so glad they released that Greatest Hits when they did. Its went on to be a consistent seller and that will carry on until it tops a million in the UK.
Would be great to know how it is doing sales wise to be honest, both in the UK and worldwide...
Each time I see anything about the GH album, I am reminded that there are even unreleased tracks from THIS project. Yet, I always forget about them; I think that's because the two new ones we got on the GH were just "ok", and the group wasn't exactly united musically at the time. I'd still be curious to hear them though.
I think the live version of Headlines is superior to the album version, and I think VooDoo had potential to be much better than it was. If they ever record new music again, I hope it's mainly mid- to high-tempo tracks that get people grooving and moving. I think their biggest missed branding opportunity with the GH was to release NGUOTGT as a single and name the tour after it. There's probably also a studio remix of the live version of this track from Wembley in 1998 just like there's an equivalent for SYBT, which they mostly performed the SW remix of when they were live in concert.
It did take me aback to see the GH is 15 years old. I accept the anniversaries of Spice ect are a long time ago as I was a child but I was an adult technically for the GH so it being so long ago is scary.
I remember how at the time EVERYONE (bar 1 or 2 sane people) hated the cover and moaned endlessly that it wasn't a pic of them. Thank god it wasn't as aside from Mel C they weren't all looking their best and it would have aged like milk. Does make you think that some of the decisions now may well be seen in the long term. Like having never had a clips video officially it was probably a very smart move to get one out to NGUOTGT for years to come.
The tracklist is exactly as I would have picked tbh. You could argue Step to me could be on it but tbh it gave SW25 something we all wanted.
I'd personally love to see a slip cover made for the GH to jazz it up (same cover just 5 versions with a union jack version, pink version, leopard print version ect) I would buy all 5 in a heart beat.
I cant wait for the day it goes 3 times plat then a million seller, it truly deserves it.
My favourite memory regarding DenDen discussions about the GH artwork - some people were convinced that you could actually see the girls in the letters I’m sure someone said the E was one of the girls in a bikini 😭 I wish I could look back on those threads. Some of them were so wild!
A Never Give Up On The Good Times remix should have been the greatest hits single. It probably would have went top 5. It would have added another legitimate hit single to their legacy. Instead we got Headlines, which no one remembers or cares for.
People would have torn them apart had they just released an old track back in 2007. Fans wanted something new and that's what they got. The reception to that something new wasn't in their hands. Both those tracks sit well alongside the others. Holler is really the only stand out "different feel" song on the Greatest Hits.
Has the Greatest Hits reached 800,000 UK sales yet?
In hindsight it's too bad Biff didn't repurpose some of the tracks he did with Victoria for the greatest hits. Imagine if we would have got some of these on the greatest hits.
Hustler
Flow
Give It All Away
Be With You
Bittersweet
Should've Known Better
All of these tracks are great. They feel mature and "cool" compared to Headlines and Voodoo.
