Wednesday Update Top 20 Only

Chico fends off competition for number one single slot
Source: MW

Early retail reports reveal a three-way battle for the number spot is under way this week, with current chart topper Chico facing competition from Orson’s No Tomorrow (Mercury) and Pussycat Dolls’ Beep (A&M), currently at positions two and three respectively.

A brace of singles are set to make big rises after chart rules allowed digital sales to make an impact on the chart one week before physical release, the biggest of which being The Black Eyed Peas’ Pump It (Interscope). A Top 20 new entry last week based on download sales, the single is likely to rise into the top five thanks to its physical release yesterday.

Also set to score big increases are Girls Aloud’s Whole Lotta History (Polydor; last week’s position 93), Joey Negro’s Make A Move On Me (Data; 50), Ray J’s One Wish (Sanctuary, 172), James Blunt’s Wisemen (Atlantic; 57) and Beverley Knight’s Piece Of My Heart (Parlophone; 98).

After Michael Jackson’s reissued Beat It (Epic), the highest bona fide new entry comes from Ne-Yo’s So Sick (Mercury), followed by Massive Attack’s Live With Me (Virgin) and Battle’s Tendency (Transgressive).

In the albums market, David Gilmour is battling it out with Corinne Bailey Rae for the number one spot, with Placebo’s Meds (Virgin) looking to make it an all-EMI top three. New entries around the Top Ten will come from Russell Watson (Decca), Vittorio Grigolo (Polydor), Graham Coxon (Parlophone) and Fightstar (Island), with chart veterans Donald Fagen (Reprise) and Gary Numan (Cooking Vinyl) set to enter within the top 30.

Orson, have nearly a 500 lead over Chico, me reckons Chico will probably nip it by Sunday, as Chico has got more physicals sales than Orson, but however you look at it, its pretty close between the two. It could go neither way.

Is Ray J - One Wish (172) [CLIMBER] the second week on chart or is it the same record that was out a few months back? that is could it disappear due to the 52 week rule at one point in its chart run?
