Apologies for there being no semi-final reveal, I have had a lot on this weekend and low key I didn't realise HOW MUCH work this took omg. Hats off to anyone who has done it in the past and espesh Rob last contest for all the effort he put in.

Omg h00s you shoulda sent "Moment"
The hype can’t wait to get stuck in listening, it’s been 84 years etc.
Also, 'Sneeze, Cough, Hand Wash' is my early favorite. A BOP.
Grades - King finally showing up *.* one of my old potentials
BRUH NIKI CHUNGHA AND AOA IN ONE SEMI? HEAVEN *.*

OMG Tartford
Literally I had it on queue for quite some time now Music Instructor but with a different song Super Sonic (Brainbug Mix). I always find it surprising when someone besides me knows bops like these ...the only other one I would expect to have access to those songs would be Frankluck!!!
Good luck and I'm glad we're in same semi
There are quite a few songs I've already heard outside of the contest again this month but not quite as many as last time, and it looks like the majority of the songs I already know are in the opposite semi from me so yay for being in the fresher semi for me! Some early hype in semi 2 for Aeroche, Cowtermont and D'yermak'er! ('I Wanna Be Blind' from the Turnstile/Mall Grab EP is up there among my fave songs of the year so far so would have probably been a guaranteed 18 from me if Jeff went with that instead but I liked 'Yes I Need My Generator' a fair bit too and this is a good opportunity to listen to it more again). Also sending early hype again to Jadakissnia over in semi 1 xx
Why So Sirius and Rolloland back-to-back near the start of semi 1 is going to be... a moment *_* also FSR Rontvia have sent an artist I had as a potential a few years back (with 'No More'), interested to hear this song!
We've had pretty amazing turnout in this contest, 68 entries is 4 more than we had in the previous biggest contest since BJSC 100! Wasn't sure we'd ever see a contest with this many entries again. (I mean it took a global pandemic to make it happen again but still...) Interestingly despite how massive this contest is we have very few long songs, the longest song is 6 and a half minutes and there are only 4 songs over 5 minutes, so plug sessions for this shouldn't end up being too excessively long ~
(Unfortunately we do seem to have lost Land of DW (as well as Taahino ofc) </3 not that this is a huge surprise following Frank's post in the semi results thread last month. Hope to see you returning at some point Frank).
which speaking of plug dj...are you available Bre to host or you need help?
I'm happy to host the plug sessions again ~ can probably go for Tuesday & Wednesday, hoping that won't be clashing with anything important?
First BJSC listenthroughs on actual plug.dj for a few months *.* (courtesy of someone figuring out a workaround for plug.dj still not working properly)
Yes,I'm pleased to see my song being next to Why So Sirius in the running order. That's certainly when that semi will reach its peak.
interesting to see Brainbug appear as I sent him to Halloween with 'Nightmare' - I haven't actually went and searched for his other songs, aside from the direct follow-up 'Benedictus' which was disappointingly very much a D-grade version of 'Nightmare'.
unfamiliar with most of these as ever except for 'Fet House Mode' which I found off Jupiter's PC, alongside 'Sirens' and 'New Person, Same Old Mistakes' (surprised this passed the veto considering it's Tame Impala and the song of theirs Rihanna covered). Plus I think I listened to 'Freaks' once but didn't think much of it, we'll have to see if it grows from being here.
Intrigued for Lex's entry as I heard a Moyka song earlier ('Backwards') and loved it! Kylienips' is one I've charted and I'm pretty sure the Chestoria entry is a song that my brother stans! Excited to dive into this, sent a Rontvia recycle this time so I'm glad they're in my semi
So the tea is that New Lexico and FARC were the first two countries to confirm...and both confirmed ‘Spaces’ within 90 seconds of each other!
(Sorry Jake! x)
I think there's sufficient pophoe and/or pophoe-curious nations in Semi 1 to stand me a good chance of keeping up my record Q streak!
ur Q streak will be helped by the fact ur song is absolutely STUNNING lex.
Even less confident about my cheap slice of Scandi given that draw
Omg we were gonna send the same song Jack! I put my one first, then yours, then changed back to mine because I couldn't decide at all :')
Yeah I wanted to choose that tame impala song as I feel like most know the Rihanna song but I wanted to showcase the original as my anniversary entry *.*
I think it's slightly longer than The Llama Song which was also once sent here lel ~
We're jumping on the 80's bandwagon with this Indie-rock-electro number.
I recognize so many songs in both semis, this is the first time in a while I've known so many! Some have even been potentials of mine!
I'm excited to see how the hype for my song grows because it felt like the most BJSC song I've heard in a while from the very beginning.
btw bre, if you look up "plug.dj fix 2020" on youtube, you should find some tutorials for a workaround!
I already have the workaround xx
This has to be New Lexico's to lose~
Ooh NHS70! I've had that in my head quite a bit the past month or so (presumably for the same reason it got sent) and I know The Rubens song as well, mainly as a result of Dexton spamming it in my persona chart
I will sincerely be so upset if I DNQ (which I prob will judging by the draw!) as this entry of mine is my current song of the year That chorus is just to die for!
I see a couple former Klum representatives in semi one Hopefully Montaigne and Rebecca & Fiona do their countries proud!
My entry this month has been a potential for a while so I'm not head over heels obsessed with it like some of my other entries, all I hope for is a qualification and we're at least on par if not better than last month's result! It's very early 10's European summer holiday hit that never crossed over to the UK.
I was expecting to see Spaces in PopJustice this month, but the biggest bit of pop in the last month appears here instead.
Some of the songs that got through veto here are insane, but I guess I come here with a popjustice understanding of what's big, and not a buzzjack one.
Muna can already have all my points.
I'm a little mystified as to how Moyka is apparently such a big deal with a song that has less than 5,000 views on YouTube. Even for a niche online interest act that seems extremely low.
I've never really liked FLETCHER before but I think Forever is a bop!
The standards of what can be considered a significant level of discussion on BuzzJack are a lot lower than on PopJustice as we're a much smaller forum but even by those standards there was nearly no interest on this forum for (at least these songs by) any of The Aces, FLETCHER, MUNA or Frida Sundemo, there was more attention for Purple Disco Machine than all of those combined probably. The only notable mark against any of those songs was them having some prior success in BJSC (The Aces less so than the rest) which in itself usually doesn't feel like enough to veto a new song that it doesn't appear many people will know.
The veto is incredibly subjective. Its by its nature never going to be something that gets a universal agreement really so I just work off what evidence I have in front of me at the time.
Using Muna as the example maybe it helps if I explain my thought process, I’m just one person out of the group but hopefully it’ll help demystify some of the inner workings of the veto. This is what we are working off for the song in question:
MUNA - Stayaway 15
- artist came 34th in BJSC 83 and 2nd in BJSC 92 3+12
- appeared in 3 personal charts, 2 of which are BJSC participants (Jay, Jupiter)
- mid level blog coverage
2nd and 34th is a mixed bag, suggesting that they don’t have a consistent hit rate every time they are entered. The last entry was over three years ago and the contest has changed a lot in this time, so not necessarily the same audience is there. Two participants have charted the song, but that’s it for on-site buzz which suggests it’s not too widely known and those that know it haven’t been “oh my f***ing god you must listen to this” about it hence the lack of genre forum discussion. The lack of general internet background noise suggests it’s not likely to be something that a lot of people will have been knowingly exposed to without specifically looking it out.
There’s not enough evidence in front of me to show that this is a really widely known track and so my vote is to allow it through. Past performance comes into it for me when the artist has a consistent hit rate and that success is quite recent. In a case like this I don’t give it quite so heavy a weighting in my deliberations.
Dream contest for me is zero vetoes. All I can do is look at the evidence in front of my and decide if in my opinion it is likely that the song is quite well known among the participants and therefore giving that person a leg up in the competition. It’s a hard line to walk and I’m not saying we get every decision correct, because we absolutely don’t, but we do our best with what we can see and feel to make the right judgement. Where we get it wrong and veto a track, we have an appeals process that I strongly encourage the use of.
Does somebody maybe have an Apple Music playlist for Semi 2 please? 🙏 ❤️
Will there be a plug session, please let me know so I can diarize! Thanks so much!
Vote IJSKOUD or be xenophobic thanks x
Montaigne was one of my acts that represented Kylienips, at the time the track I used did not do that well.
On the other hand, I just had to use Lapsley as I previously entered Station a few years back, I'm hoping Womxn will do better. I was going to change it at the last minute as I found something else, but I stuck with it, in the end.
Just listened to and voted on SF1 - what a strong Semifinal! Could've easily given points to 6 or 7 more songs!
Plug session for semi 1 coming up tonight around 8:30 as usual! (Will try and make sure to start promptly since there are a fair few songs to get through ofc x)
Will do my best to attend the plug sesh (it's been 84 years ect)
https://plug.dj/buzzjack-listen-throughs
Starting semi 1 in 25 ish minutes
my entry not even acknowledged yet
Voted!
I feel like the nations towards the top of my votes are less predictable than usual ;o the semi was off to a rocky start but ended up with 12 I really wanted to vote for.
My main hype target from semi 1 is New Lexico Lotunia!
Sending all my hypes to Dobago in semi 1, the DANCE WITH THE DEAD vibes are strong (was this a song that you had as a potential for Club Bizarre? I feel like it could have done really well in that!) Lotunia's was a song I'd heard before as it was a winner on PopJustice, remembered quite liking it there but it stood out even more here, interested to see if it might come close to replicating its PJSC success here as it seemed like a very unexpected winner over there!
Hype to the eternal underdogs Harmonica and Niceland too, let's get them both to the final at the very least this time pls x
And also showing some love for an excellent AQ pick from Ojnoj
Semi 2 plug session coming same time tomorrow!
Yes Dobago and Tartford hype
Voted. A fairly decent semi with a very good top five! Semi 2 has fewer songs that I absolutely love, but a lot more that I enjoyed overall.
I'll leave doing odds for the final but in terms of predictions I can see New Lexico, Lotunia, Ojnoj, Dobago, Pupok, Flynnonda, Thelonia, Altyr, Bhangra, Tartford, African Grey, Jadakissnia, Cor Lupus, Aeroche and Persephonia doing well among numerous others.
It is hard to see past a New Lexico win for sure, but Ojnoj have got a strong AQ that should have very wide appeal and Lotunia will do very well too.
^ I hadn't really paid much mind as to whether or not my song would do well this time so that is an encouraging sign
https://plug.dj/buzzjack-listen-throughs
Semi 2 coming up in half an hour ish xx
@Braylene
Any stats for Semi 1 from the listen-through yesterday by any chance?~
Wasn't intending to post them but here they are, take with several large pinches of salt as ever xx
Shame Nasty Cherry didn't do so well there :/
They'd be getting top points from me if I was in that semi!
FYI mine should've been 9 as Dan said he forgot to woot afterwards
yes 'same amount of woots as hotly tipped New Lexico' is what I'm clinging onto right now
That's encouraging! Let's hope it can translate into an actual final position I've qualified 3 times in the last 15 contests show me some sympathy
Oh wow I did really well, a certain qualifier
don't let plug fool you! I came top in my plug semi based on woots and then finished bottom in the final after finishing somewhere around 14th in the semi
Many a false hope has been built up with the plug stats in the past before anyone wants to over-interpret them!
People who come on plug.dj are also very notoriously not as generous towards pop songs as the wider participant base so it's quite heavily skewed xx
god I wish I was there for the plug session but I had work </3 AOA deserved better tbh
I’m not gonna read into plug stats, I don’t know the audience makeup from that day so the number might be misleading, like my entries usually get a decent reaction but an average of 6-7 woots might also mean your entry will fade into the background and the road to doing well is gonna be that much more of a struggle, so it cancels out and I don’t really have expectations
DAEHUN HYPE!!!!
Anyone who dislikes Stayaway is being oppositive for the sake of it.
Semi 2 felt very sonically consistent, so many songs with the same kind of lowkey but groovy vibe (my own entry very much included ofc) - it's making it very difficult to rank my favourites as there isn't really one song that stands out massive above all the others (almost felt more like Club Bizarre than BJSC in that regard) but definitely enjoyed it more on the whole than semi 1. Will aim to do a relisten and vote on Friday.
We have to stan Kathaldazia's comeback tho and sending some hype to Aelandor, East Rukahavian, Flynnonda and Hushkanukia as well among others ~~
Semi 2 is TOUGH
Justice for all the 3am bops and #DAEHUNHYPE
There were a bunch of like 7-8 songs in the middle of the of the semi where I was like "this is probably my favourite semi of all time".
Does anyone like my entry
Drag me, daddy klum
Alliance of “non-English speaking country based users” immediately required.
Better name also urgently required.
Does Newcastle count as non-English speaking, asking for a friend...?
lotti is 1/4 welsh so i'll let it slide
Voted. There was nothing that really stood out but there were still songs that I liked that I couldn't give points to.
Sign me up!!!
I sent italian/english and they still keep ignoring it!!!
Voted
Ramrynia hype please. Thank you x
Voted, an interesting semi!
the video for klums song *.* the horse girl in me jumped out x
Voted!
I enjoyed the semi! My 12 pointer to win pls xo
Votes sent ~
Yehesi can have some hype from me too cos I am not a xenophobe x (also the song has grown on me, definitely the best Yehesi entry in a while)
I wouldn't be mad if Bal wins this like he won every other song contest this month tbh.
I'll have to remind myself to vote later on
Voted!
Rép d'Áskorza has submitted votes unusually early.
voted. Pretty much liked every track in semi 2, so bit of a shame only 10 get points, hey ho!
Bit of hype for Suedonia - it's fab anyway, but it's also NHS, got a video that reminds you to keep your eyes closed when substances are flying about, and also makes me think of my fave joke:
A duck walks into a bar: "Got any bread?".....
google it
Pupok's trash bop
This is the most hype I had since like K3 or something
Yehesi deserves to qualify. Justice for Laura Tesco.
Jupiterdonia’s song filling the hole that PNAU left *.*
voted and feeling not good at all about my chances now!
Will be voting later tonight - but not too late - as I am yet again dead from yet another ill-advised 1300m mountain climb in unreasonable temperatures.
Votes are in... really loved my top 3 in SF1
That was a wonderful semi and it made voting extremely tough. The discrepancy in semi final quality is gonna make my final votes very lopsided~

Sorry guys had another update, my nan is in critical care after deteriorating very quickly and although I've been strong this has completely slipped my mind.
I feel terrible for letting people down again and if the mods could help me with the rest as I just don't think I'm in a place where I can even bring myself to post the results right now, that's be appreciated.
Oh Jack, so sorry you're going through this terrible situation. All the best to you and your family and take care.

It has just been announced on RTE that my entry has won Schoolovision!
A school in West Cork has won 'Schoolovision', a primary schools' version of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Twenty-three pupils at Cappabue National School in Bantry recorded and released the rap song on climate change three months ago.
"One Small Change" went viral on social media and the principal was invited to enter the rap in the Schoolovision competition.
Schoolovision has been held on the eve of the Eurovision Song Contest for the past 12 years, with primary schools from up to 30 countries taking part annually.
Votes were cast online this morning and Ireland was announced as the winner.
Norway came second and Austria's entry was in third place.
Norma Healy, principal of Cappabue National School said everyone is thrilled to have won the competition.
She said it has been an exciting few months for the pupils who are now working on a second rap.
Ms Healy said they were supposed to appear on Good Morning America via Skype on World Earth Day but the appearance was cancelled because of Covid-19.
She said winning Schoolovision is the perfect consolation prize.
The pupils decided to make the video after being shocked by the amount of litter they found when they went to help clean up local beaches.
Music producer, songwriter and rapper Garry McCarthy came to the school to help the pupils - some as young as five - have their voices heard.
Past pupil, videographer Elaine Lucey, shot the video.
Sorry to hear Jack, all my love and hope you're doing ok!
All votes counted The only set of votes I don't seem to have is any from FRANDOOT so if you're wanting to vote, I'll accept them before 7pm tomorrow with no deduction! Results to follow at like 8:30-ish if that's alright?
Sounds brilliant Leww!
Brilliant leww...and as always a hero for stepping in and help out
Thanks Lew for helping out, bring on the results tomorrow x (y'all thought we were done having Aeroche take over contests just because they aren't a mod nation any more? )
heya guys, i know it's been delayed enough but i've ended up with a backlog of paperwork today from my work shift that i don't think i'll get finished in time. i wasn't expecting it D:
would anyone mind if i popped it back until tomorrow at 7pm? it would end up quite a late starting one tonight i think
Lew coming to the BJSC rescue AGAIN
Another day is no big deal. We can just pretend the one week gap was intentional to respect the old standard of BJSC not happening during Eurovision week xo
Can’t we just pretend the votes had to be sent to the USA to be processed?
another thing to add to the list of thing s being delayed/cancelled this year x
Oh, I gave Seyetana a 5 and I nearly give Iz points, so shame on you all, even if I don't remember it now x
