Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe)
Here is the chart of May 20, 2017: 50 49 48 47 46 Kasabian - You're In Love With A Psycho 45 44 43 42 41 40 Martin Solveig - Places 10 Down 39 Imagine Dragons - Believer 38 Paramore - Hard Times 2 Down 37 36 35 G-Eazy & Kehlani - Good Life 3 Down 34 Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. 33 J Hus - Did You See Stay => 32 31 30 29 Little Mix & Machine Gun Kelly - No More Sad Songs 10 Down 28 27 Bruno Mars - That's What I Like 26 Burak Yeter - Tuesday 9 Down 25 24 Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios 6 Down 23 Zedd & Alessia Cara - Stay 9 Down 22 21 20 Martin Jensen - Solo Dance 9 Up 19 Disciples - On My Mind 18 17 16 15 14 Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm 2 Down 13 12 Charlie Puth - Attention 10 Up 11 Jax Jones - You Don't Know Me 2 Up 10 9 8 Rag'n'Bone Man - Skin 1 Up 7 6 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times 5 Jason Derulo - Swalla Stay => 4 Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl 3 Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson - Symphony 1 Down 2 1 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee - Despacito Stay => This is the ninth time in 2017 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. And we have a very peculiar situation regarding the number 1 position in this edition of the chart! Usually, the upper part of the "Euro Top Chart" broadcast on MTV Europe is the same as the "Euro Top 20" chart that is broadcast on MTV Italy. However, in the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's chart "Despacito" is at number 2 and "I'm The One" by DJ Khaled is at number 1. Here, "Despacito" is at number 1... while "I'm The One" is presumably at number 2 but MTV Europe didn't play it! When it comes to differences, they can't get bigger than the chart-topper! Quite an occasion indeed! |

Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe)
Here is the chart of May 27, 2017: 40 39 Imagine Dragons - Thunder 38 G-Eazy & Kehlani - Good Life 3 Down 37 36 Paramore - Hard Times 2 Up 35 Zedd & Alessia Cara - Stay 12 Down 34 Francesco Gabbani - Occidentali's Karma 33 Little Mix & Machine Gun Kelly - No More Sad Songs 4 Down 32 Julia Michaels - Issues 31 30 29 28 Katy Perry - Bon Appétit 27 26 25 Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios 1 Down 24 23 Jax Jones - You Don't Know Me 12 Down 22 21 J Hus - Did You See 12 Up 20 19 18 17 16 Martin Jensen - Solo Dance 4 Up 15 14 Burak Yeter - Tuesday 12 Up 13 Charlie Puth - Attention 1 Down 12 Disciples - On My Mind 7 Up 11 10 Kygo & Selena Gomez - It Ain't Me 9 Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson - Symphony 6 Down 8 7 Miley Cyrus - Malibu 6 Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl 2 Down 5 Jason Derulo - Swalla Stay => 4 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee - Despacito 3 Down 3 2 DJ Khaled & Justin Bieber - I'm The One 1 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times 5 Up Last year, the only Eurovision song that appeared in this chart was "If I Were Sorry" by Frans - which had only reached number 5 in the contest! This year, the big favourite seemed to be Italy's representative - Francesco Gabbani, whose "Occidentaly's Karma" entered MTV Europe's European chart more than a MONTH before the contest! Well, now the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is over and "Occidentali's Karma" reappears... although it only reached number 6 in the contest!!! In this edition of the chart - one week after the song topped MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" - MTV Europe finally played "I'm The One" by DJ Khaled! However, it's not the new number 1 here... ...That honour goes to "Sign Of The Times". Harry Styles becomes the first member of One Direction to reach the top of the chart. Before that Zayn came very close twice - both "Pillowtalk" and "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" peaked at number 2. |

Now it officially becomes a number 1 in MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" as well! By the way, DJ Khaled has previously appeared in MTV Europe's European chart with a very similarly titled song - "I'm On One" reached number 6 in 2011! |

What about the fifth one - Louis Tomlinson? Well, his collaboration with Steve Aoki "Just Hold On" did appear in MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20"... It's just that MTV Europe decided not to play it! And speaking of Niall Horan... "Slow Hands" jumps 13 Places and becomes one of the most shocking number ones in the history of this chart!!! |

Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe)
Here is the chart of July 8, 2017: 40 39 38 37 36 Olly Murs & Louisa Johnson - Unpredictable 35 34 33 32 31 Maggie Lindemann - Pretty Girl 1 Down 30 29 Katy Perry - Bon Appétit 28 27 Selena Gomez - Bad Liar 26 25 Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl Stay => 24 Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams & Katy Perry - Feels 23 Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson - Symphony 6 Down 22 21 Robin Schulz & James Blunt - OK 3 Down 20 Sigala - Came Here For Love 1 Down 19 Camila Cabello - Crying In The Club 4 Up 18 Jason Derulo - Swalla 2 Down 17 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times 5 Down 16 15 Charlie Puth - Attention 1 Down 14 13 Miley Cyrus - Malibu 6 Down 12 Little Mix - Power 2 Down 11 Imagine Dragons - Thunder 4 Up 10 French Montana - Unforgettable 3 Up 9 Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back 8 Niall Horan - Slow Hands 7 Jonas Blue & William Singe - Mama 4 Down 6 Rita Ora - Your Song 5 David Guetta & Justin Bieber - 2U 3 Down 4 Liam Payne - Strip That Down Stay => 3 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee - Despacito 2 Down 2 DJ Khaled & Rihanna - Wild Thoughts 1 Artists For Grenfell - Bridge Over Troubled Water MTV Europe played a total of 26 songs from the chart. I think this is the first time they have played that many songs from a single edition of the chart... However, they didn't play them all at once... at least not on Saturday! What happened on Saturday? The last song MTV Europe played was "Wild Thoughts" by DJ Khaled and Rihanna at number 2... and then the broadcast ended! This must have been the first time ever that the number 1 wasn't shown at all!... Mercifully, on Sunday MTV Europe did show the number 1 - "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Artists For Grenfell... But I don't consider it a good thing that one has to watch the same edition of the chart several times in order to get a fuller picture... |

For Rihanna this is her first chart-topper since "This Is What You Came For", her collaboration with Calvin Harris. ...However, this is not all I have to say about Rihanna! Whenever she reaches the top, I must mention that she's the artist with the most number ones in the history of MTV Europe's European chart! If I'm counting correctly, she has a total of 18 number ones... and they would have been 19 if there was a European chart broadcast on MTV Europe between August 2012 and the end of 2013 ("Diamonds" would have reigned during that time)... And then there's the fact that "Wild Thoughts" samples "Maria Maria" by Santana. How did that song do in this chart? It actually only peaked at number 7 in 2000! |

And speaking of the number 2 position... by going 2-30, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Artists For Grenfell records the biggest fall in this chart! |

Pharrell Williams's previous number 1 was the massive hit "Happy" at the beginning of 2014... while Katy Perry has already scored a chart-topper this year with "Chained To The Rhythm". I'm really glad to see "One Last Time" by Ariana Grande here. It originally appeared in the chart a little over 2 years ago... As a matter of fact, this time I expected MTV Europe to start playing it several weeks ago - and at a much higher position... |

Until now, MTV Europe refused to play the song... so it's a miracle that they have finally done it! What they played was the video for the "Tokyo Remix" of the song. What is more important to me is that MTV Europe also finally started playing "Subeme La Radio" by Enrique Iglesias!!! To have TWO songs in Spanish ("Subeme La Radio" and "Despacito") broadcast on MTV Europe during the same edition of the chart is a historical moment! And it's even more impressive that MTV Europe played "Duele El Corazon" by Enrique Iglesias for the first time in the edition EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO! For two years in a row MTV Europe are making a birthday present for me! |

However, MTV Europe decided not to play it. But now MTV Europe have played Louis's newest single "Back To You"! This is a monumental achievement! ALL 5 members of One Direction have appeared in MTV Europe's European chart as solo artists now! I don't think ANY group (consisting of at least 4 members) has accomplished this before... Spice Girls came closest but Victoria never managed to reach this chart... |

The last time he reached the Top 3 was back in 2009 with "Takin' Back My Love" - 8 years ago! In fact, three of his previous four Top 3 hits peaked at number 3 - "Bailamos", "Hero" and "Takin' Back My Love". The highest peak position for an Enrique Iglesias single so far is number 2. So which of his singles achieved this? Astonishingly, "Escape"! |

For some reason, MTV Europe skips some songs each week - even a couple of songs that they usually play! For example, they almost always skip the song that is currently at number 7 in the chart... And, judging by the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, "More Than You Know" was the unlucky number 7 in this case...
It's the same reason why "Subeme La Radio" by Enrique Iglesias wasn't played during the previous 2 editions of this chart - it happened to be at number 7 in both of them... |

Yes. Sometimes it seems like MTV Europe want to hide that they skip songs - then they show consecutive positions for the songs they play (as if there were no gaps between their positions)...
