Giants sounds like a hit.

Posted by: gooddelta 17th February 2017, 12:06 AM

Giants is great! Very obviously heavily inspired by Midnight City by M83 but with a classic Take That chorus.

Posted by: mdh 17th February 2017, 12:09 AM

So excited to hear Giants for the first time wub.gif Will wait til the morning though.

Yay for a busy week, I dare say Take That, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran and Kygo will all go top 10 on iTunes? ohmy.gif

Here for 'Giants' yahoo.gif Love it on first listen.

Hope they slay this week - downloads plus a double singed single bundle should offset some of the streaming deficit!

Posted by: ___∆___ 17th February 2017, 12:15 AM

Anne-Marie and James Arthur getting the 59p reduction this week - expecting big boosts for both.

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th February 2017, 12:16 AM

I didn't expect Ciao Adios to be 59p so soon but it's well-timed, as it's probably gonna be moved up to the Radio 1 b-list today which provides a big boost on its own. Set to be a huge hit ohmy.gif

So 'Giants' is REALLY good.

After one listen, it's my fave from them already tbh. Would actually appreciate it becoming a hit. I imagine a performance on 'Let It Shine' will happen this weekend?

Yes, they are on LIS this weekend. I'm pretty sure they would have decent physical sales too - the signed bundle for 2 CDs with bonus and live tracks was £4.99.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th February 2017, 12:22 AM

That awkward moment when you end up loving the songs you weren't anticipating more than the song you was... Galantis. You let me down. </3

Both Maroon 5 & Take That have taken me by surprise.

This is one of the better Chainsmokers type songs - Clean Bandit vibes with the violins and the flute in the drop is nice. Wouldn't mind this becoming big!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 17th February 2017, 09:24 AM

According to my iTunes:

arrow up.gif 5. Ed Sheeran - How Would You Feel (Paean
arrow up.gif 8. Take That - Giants

Posted by: The Wise Sultan 17th February 2017, 09:28 AM

How Would You Feel (Paean) looks like it may get top 3. Quite good, certainly much better a ballad than 'Thinking Out Loud', I didn't like that one because apart from being massively overplayed, the lyrics were a bit cheesy. How Would You Feel (Paean) sounds a bit like a Michael Buble ballad like 'Crazy Love' for example. When was the last time three songs by the same artist were top 3 officially?

Posted by: cqmerqn 17th February 2017, 09:28 AM

Take That doing much better than I expected!

Only Justin Bieber has ever held the top 3!

It's already top 5 in 9am, like what's wrong with that?! not even a single. It will be number 1 on ITUNES

Posted by: Mart!n 17th February 2017, 09:43 AM

Posted by: Tinasha 17th February 2017, 10:52 AM

As explained multiple times before, it won't go as fast as it were released as a single version, because loads of the downloads will be credited to album pre-orders. Every single Ed fan who's pre-ordered the album will get the song and it won't impact iTunes. Only people who cherry pick it will be pushing it up iTunes.

All streams will count as well as all paid-for purchases of the track as a standalone or 'cherry-picked' song.

The only thing that won't count is those who have obtained it via pre-ordering the album, but those purchases won't be showing up on the Kworb feed either.

So the Kworb figures plus its opening streams tally tomorrow will give us a very accurate view of how its selling.

How many CD's do we think Take That will sell this week (given CD1 is 16 in the Amazon Best Sellers and CD2 is 24)? I guess less than 10k.

Would have thought they should at least manage 10k. They usually only release 1 CD single and had no bonus/new tracks last era and didn't sign any and usually charge £4.99 for 1.

This time the bundle is signed and costs £4.99 for both and features a new song and 4 live tracks. I'm sure when 'These Days' went to #1 it was due to physicals giving them the edge?

Pleased they are #5 on Spotify's new music Friday list - will give them a much needed streaming boost from casual listeners.

Given Ed's lead on iTunes, I don't think there'll be much competition.

Given the sales difference during this chart battle it could be a good example then!

Meanwhile, the three full-time members of Take That will perform their new single Giants during Let It Sine's semi-final this Saturday (Feb 18).

It says:

It hasn't been confirmed yet which Take That song the'll be singing, they've teased it'll be on of the band's classic numbers.

Wouldn't that be more likely to be something like Never Forget than Cry?

Presumably the three of them would do the new single and then announce Robbie on and do a classic?

They need to forget about this and claim it was a 'buzz' single - it was around #50 before the price reduction.

After all the bangers she's released it feels as though they have killed the entire album campaign with this - they should've just carried on pushing 'I Would Like'!

I think it's more down to the fact that the song isn't very good tbh. It's just so unmemorable and weak.

I'm a huge fan of the 1975 but this is horrible, the effect they have done on the vocals totally ruins what would have been a beautiful cover! Surprised it's zoomed up so quickly too.

Posted by: Tinasha 22nd February 2017, 11:37 AM

I think The 1975 will do The Sound or Somebody Else

1975's have been asked to rush release this and perform at the Brits as it is for charity according to a video review of the song on Youtube

Posted by: JosephStyles 22nd February 2017, 12:55 PM

It's not a rush-release, it got announced a few weeks back kink.gif I'm not sure if they'll be performing it or not, it doesn't sound like a song that will lend itself to a live performance that well really, I can see them performing The Sound or something instead. We'll see anyway ~

Katy's video effect on Kworb is really good today. I'm sure she'll overtake the Ed grat, but the Chainsmokers & Coldplay/New Ed songs will probably overtake her at the same time, but she could hopefully come for the top 5 next week.

I'm not sure that 'How Would You Feel' will be pushed out of the Top 10 from its current position of #3 - if anything there will be even more interest in Ed's new music.

The May/Trump referencing in Katy's performance was genius.

So, the big Ed Sheeran collab was just f***ing Stormzy guesting on 'Shape Of You's live performance? Biggest anti-climax ever.

I agree. All the daytime TV shows and newspapers are talking about her performance so she's getting the most promo! No one is talking about Ed's performance really.

Also his song is a lot older and loads of people already own it, his streaming will get a huge increase though.

Katy is catching slightly on the latest update (0.9 from 0.88 - weighted against “Shape Of You”).

02. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You | 7,654
03. Katy Perry - Chained To the Rhythm (feat. Skip Marley) | 6,931

Can Doctor Blind shed some light on what these sales actually translate to, assuming they're overestimated?

Will the Shape of You remix be added to the original for inclusion in the actual chart, or will they chart separately?

It'll be added to the original.

I can't believe he's releasing the Remix and prevent Coldplay another number 1 sad.gif He's there forever!!! Your album is next week, leave it!

Coldplay should go back to rock instead of pop so I have no problem with Ed obsessing over the charts!

I really think y'all are overestimating the remix. I'm not sure Coldplay/Chainsmokers will manage to outdo Shape Of You's streaming power as it is though.

I don't think they'll be frontloaded tbh! They'll probably hold up in the top 2 all week.

Yeah waiting til Friday would be the stupid move, in the Spotify age it's always best to release asap

Even if none of the streams will count due to Thursday?

Posted by: mdh 23rd February 2017, 01:50 PM

Tbh I think they'll get more streams on Friday than they will today anyway as they'll have New Music Friday behind them, so I doubt it'll make much difference to the song in the long term. It'll have a nice high top 3 debut nonetheless.

that is no reason to debut a song on a live television show and then not release it straight away.

I think in the future more people will release 'midweek' as there is less emphasis placed on first week chart positions.

Posted by: omrimayo 23rd February 2017, 02:19 PM

OK so NO NEW SONGS for Ed. It's out in NZ - It's just 2 new remixes to SOU - Major Lazer and the rap version from yesterday. Wow that's a disappointment and I don't like he'll prevent Coldplay's number 1 but whatever.

What a stupid decision on releasing the Coldplay and Chainsmokers single today, i never understand the logic of doing this.

The Brits has really turned the charts around, i remain disappointed Ed Sheeran isnt going to be replacing himself at number 1.

Posted by: Tinasha 23rd February 2017, 03:07 PM

Chainsmokers/Coldplay early doesn't make much of a difference. They're not an act who'll be hugely front-loaded. They'll get strong sales throughout the week. I actually think it's wiser to go into the new week with the song already peaking on iTunes and Spotify, rather than losing out on the first day or two where it has the climb there.

Posted by: Conderella 23rd February 2017, 03:41 PM

lol yup Coldplay care so much about chart positions and stuff that they would miss the Brits effect and extra sales. Of course.

There's the issue though of the fact they effectively guess Thursday's streaming, and as they have no previous days to base this guess on that effectively means a whole day of streams will be lost in its total.

Yeah, I mean it'll effect tomorrow's sales but not next week's chart position is what I mean.

One day of lost stream equivalent sales (which aren't really sales) are not going to cause anyone to lose any sleep. So it debuts very low this week, who cares? That will have zero bearing on its position next week, when streaming presumably will only build.

I won't be losing any sleep, I was just saying. laugh.gif

It's Spotify's fault for not managing to sort a simple glitch.

Posted by: Bjork 23rd February 2017, 06:01 PM

what I don't get is that Spotify updates pretty early, today even before 7am, is that not enough for the occ? I mean the chart is not published til 4pm, loos like plenty of time to me smile.gif not sure why they prefer to estimate it/made it up :/ not sure how much time they need

Posted by: Doctor Blind 23rd February 2017, 06:11 PM

Apple don't manage it either, nor do any of the other main/ larger streaming services.

The issue I guess is with sorting through the raw data and accounting for the limit of 10 plays/person/day - if you ask me the chart should end at midnight on Thursday as now and then be calculated on Saturday with accurate figures and then broadcast on Sunday.. but that would be very old skool.

This. He sounds massive. There's a gap in the market for this years inevitable British breakthrough star (Passenger, George Ezra, Hozier, Calum Scott, ???) and I think it's only a matter of time before he has a huge hit.
