Been years since I've been able to listen to a full album of hers all the way through more than once (think 'Medulla' was the last one although I know people rave about 'Vulnicura') but the tracks and visualettes for this one are much better than the ones for 'Utopia' which just irritated me and really put me off her. Might give this new one a proper listen. Love the video to 'Ancestress' - very beautiful and reminds me of the film Midsommer too!

Best album of hers since Volta for me! I didn't mind Biophilia and Vulnicura was alright but this is the only album since Volta that's properly drawn me in beyond a listen or two.

As with a lot of Björk's more later work, I feel like she has developed into a queen of those videos you wander into in Art Galleries where you're faced with slightly abstract visuals set to a backdrop of music designed to challenge your experience, often quite tranquil before injecting industrial noise and quite intense sections etc as you try to work out whether anyone would notice if you just walked straight back out or whether there is a minimum amount of time you should sit on one of the randomly arranged blocks so that you don't appear too much of a heathen.

...which isn't to say I'm not enjoying it as such. As with said gallery videos, every now and again there is one that is worth sitting through and I've sat through this one three times so far - but it's definitely more of an experience than any particular songs jumping out at me.

For all the artistry, I would really like her to just go back to injecting some melody into an album again. A chorus would be quite nice too.

I think Bjork will never again go back to songs with choruses, that's gone and she'll never go back to it

I miss the Homogenic/Vespertine sound, prefer it to the Volta/Medulla sound of the new album

I don't enjoy her existing style as much as some of her greater older material.

I don’t think this will end up being one of my absolute favourite albums of hers, but it’s a definite step up from Utopia and I’m really liking it. She’s got such a strong discography but I think it’ll end up about mid-table, which to be honest is the highest I could expect at this point – I can’t see anything competing with the holy trinity of Vespertine/Homogenic/Vulnicura for me.

I was expecting more songs in the vein of Atopos and the title track, and I think it’d be a stronger album if there was more of that (which I’m assuming is the GMO involvement?). Whereas the rest of her albums have a definite feel to them, this feels more like an amalgamation of all her albums, which is to its strength as well as its detriment. It feels a lot like a Medulla/Volta hybrid in places, with a bit of the other albums thrown in.

My favourites at the moment are Atopos, Sorrowful Soil, Freefall (those last two minutes heart.gif), Fossora and Her Mother’s House. The last of which is one of her most beautiful songs ever I think

Shame she missed the top 10 and she was so close, her sales 5346 would have got her number 8 last week and the week before and the week before that number 7.

It's the Medulla influence that I'm enjoying the most, I've always felt that was her most under-appreciated album.

Fossora has definitely grown on me over the course of the week, it's definitely a big step back up again after Utopia

'Her Mother's House' is definitely my standout from the album tracks here, a stunning closing track heart.gif between that and 'Atopos' for my fave on the album as a whole, I really liked 'Ovule' and 'Fossora' too, 'Ancestress' was a bit less instant love but has grown on me after hearing the album so good single choices in general.

I’m absolutely obsessed by this record. I don’t quite understand when people say it’s
her least melodic album yet. I can hear one in at least half the album, with the other half remaining brilliant and beautifully experimental.

The genius Atopos is easily her most commercial song since Earth Intruders.

I really really didn’t like Utopia. It’s the fly in the ointment In her catalogue. The sounds and the imagery are almost frightening and I feel ‘off’ when I listen to it (I do suffer pretty extreme depression and anxiety quite often though, so I think it could be why I feel so uneasy when I listen to Utopia.) A real shame when Vulnicura is one of her best.

Anyway, I couldn’t be happier with Fossora.I don’t want her to do anything like Debut or Post again. We have those and it would be really strange if Bjork suddenly became a popstar again.

I’m not ready to list the songs in order yet, but Atopos, Fossora, Ancestress, and Ovule keep being replayed over and over. I do like every single song though, apart from Allow which just brings back my Utopia PTSD.

Very happy with Bjork right now. The videos have been cool. I’m waiting for more and hopefully remixes!

sure Bjork will never be a poster again and I don't want her to do Debut/Post again
but rather Homogenic/Vespertine

in kinda adjacent news, I saw Bjork's daughter do a DJ set at Airwaves Festival and she was brilliant, great music taste smile.gif

I've never really listened much to Bjork, but something about this album really connects to me. It's so beautifully odd. "Ancestress" is my favourite track - both the song and video are fantastic. I really like "Sorrowful Soil"/"Atopos"/"Ovule"/"Freefall"/"Fossora" and "Her Mother's House" as well.

I hope the album and "Ancestress" manage to pick up a number of nomations/wins at various award shows coming up in the next year. Perhaps even getting her first Grammy.
