BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ Oscars: Best Picture Nominees set at 10 Every Year

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th June 2020, 03:20 PM

The Oscars have announced that the best picture line-up will consist of 10 nominees permanently from the 2021 Oscars (the ones happening in 2022, so the one after the next Oscars x). Previously it'd be any amount between 7 to 9 based on some balloting system. The only previous years where there has been 10 set nominees are 2009 and 2010, which brought some of the most inspired best pic nominees *.* fabulous news and a great decision! <3 the academy are also making plans to increase diversity & make a more inclusive Oscar race <3

Just gonna post the 20 Best Picture Nominees from those two years:

2009:
THE HURT LOCKER
- A Serious Man
- An Education
- Avatar
- The Blindside
- District 9
- Inglorious Basterds
- Precious
- Up
- Up In The Air

2010:
THE KING'S SPEECH
- 127 Hours
- Black Swan
- Inception
- The Fighter
- The Kid's Are All Right
- The Social Network
- Toy Story 3
- True Grit
- Winter's Bone

Just by that expansion... those lists looks so much more diverse and accurate for the years, including the blockbusters and animations too. It should just be a perfect 10 anyway! It's a nice, round number! laugh.gif

That's great news, I agree the 2009 and 2010 Best Picture nominations stand out as being a lot more diverse than sets since so hopefully that can continue.

I don't know how they're gonna manage it for 2021 though, will there even be ten films to judge overall? basil.gif

They *should* be fine tbh! laugh.gif

All the movies that get Oscar nominated are usually released in the US from about September - End of November, beginning Dec! Whether any of those contenders get pushed back due to the blockbusters being pushed back, I don't know laugh.gif

I imagine Tenet will be the first major contender for the pictures this year! Although I'd LOVE for 'The Invisible Man' to get a look in! wub.gif

2021 is sticking to the flexible format system so I imagine we’re gonna get 7/8 noms this year aha!

white people are so triggered at the new requirements lmao. THEY ARE TAKING AWAY WHITE PEOPLE'S OSCAR RIGHTS cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

DIVERSITY DOESN'T MEAN CHANGE IN QUALITY.

It's so much harder for POC to get into the industry. And it's not like they are banning all movies from being all-white lmao. This is one measly category. People are acting like it's the end of the world. But that's white folks for ya
