Happy Friday one and all, time as always to bring you my top 20 singles for this week. Himesh Patel was your new number one seven days ago with the big song from one of the big blockbusters of the summer, 'Yesterday'. Westlife released their third single since their comeback this week though, so could that make Himesh well...yesterday's news? This is where we find out...

CHART COMMENTARY

Another quiet week with only one newcomer that stood a chance of challenging for the top spot - and failed - means the sound of the big summer Brit movie reigns supreme, as Himesh Patel's version of 'Yesterday' hangs on at number one for a second week this week.

One thing we neglected to mention last week but we will do now, is that Himesh of course, was best known to audiences as Tamwar Masood in BBC soap opera EastEnders for almost a decade. He's not the first former cast member of Albert Square to hit my chart, but he is the second to make number one, over twenty years and three months since the lady formerly known as Tiffany Mitchell - Martine McCutcheon - hit the top in April 1999 with her debut release 'Perfect Moment'. The less said about the below par chart performances from Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher) and Himesh's former on screen sister in law Preeya Kalidas (Amira Masood) the better.

With the UK and Irish leg of their Twenty Tour now completed, Westlife register their third straight #2 hit of this year on my chart this week. 'Hello My Love' made runners up slot in January, and 'Better Man' obtained silver honours in April. Along with these, 'Dynamite' is one of six tracks on their forthcoming new album 'Spectrum' (out 8th November), once again with the pens of Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac to its name, and is this week's highest new entry.

Speaking of Ed Sheeran, the release of his 'No.6 Collaborations' album last week has seen to it that current single 'Beautiful People' with Khalid takes a timely five place leap to #6. It's now his seventeenth top 10 hit on my chart since his debut in 2011, but this week marks the first time he has held separate top 10 positions as a songwriter for another artist and himself as a credited performer and songwriter.

Ed's arrival in the top 10 coincides with the departure of Mark Ronson and Lykke Li's 'Late Night Feelings' from the upper reaches. A top 10 hit for the last eleven weeks - the first six of which, of course, were at number one - it dips three places to #11 this week on its twelfth showing. It currently remains the biggest single of 2019 so far on my chart, and lays a lot of expectation on his next single, 'Find U Again' with Camila Cabello, due for arrival next month.

Sisterly country duo Ward Thomas make a welcome return to my top 10 this week, with brand new single 'Breathe In' debuting at #8. That's their second highest charting single to date following 'Lie Like Me', which made #3 on its release almost a year ago. Their only other top 10 hit to date is 'No Filter', which made #10 back in January.

Recently on our screens as the first ever well known face to trace their Long Lost Family in the hit ITV show of the same name hosted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell, KT Tunstall notches up a third consecutive top 20 hit for the first time since 2008 this week. A remixed version of 'Little Red Thread' debuts at #14 to give her a third top 20 single from her current album 'Wax', following 'The River' (#11 in September last year) and 'Human Being' (#17 in January).
