BuzzJack Music Forum _ International Charts _ MTV Euro Top Chart - (broadcast on MTV Europe) - 2018

Posted by: bobiloko 12th January 2018, 06:12 PM

The old MTV European Top 20 chart, which had been broadcast on MTV Europe for more than 20 years, ended in 2012. However, it looks like since January 4, 2014 some European "chart" has started being broadcast again on MTV Europe. The chart is broadcast on Saturdays from 12:00 to 14:00 CET and from 19:00 to 21:00 CET and on Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00 CET.
The chart seems to be a Top 40 (although in 2017 MTV Europe sometimes also showed positions between number 50 and number 41, indicating a Top 50). However, not all the positions are shown - some of them are skipped each week.
The songs that are skipped on this "Euro Top Chart" seem to be one of two cases: either songs that aren't played on MTV Europe in general (especially if they don't have an official video yet); or when an artist has more than one song in the chart, not all are shown.
It's also notable that the upper part of this chart is basically the same as the "Euro Top 20" chart that is broadcast on MTV Italy.

MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40 during 18 editions of the chart in 2017. The same happens in the very first edition of 2018.
Sometimes MTV Europe start playing a song a long time after it has reached its peak position. Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, "What Lovers Do" by Maroon 5 reached number 5 in November 2017... Yet for some reason MTV Europe refused to play the song. They finally do it now for the first time - months later, when "What Lovers Do" isn't even in the Top 20 anymore...
Usually the UK singles chart has a huge influence on this chart. So it's nice to see MTV Europe play songs like "So Far Away" by Martin Garrix and David Guetta or "Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker - they are having some success in certain European countries although they haven't appeared in the UK singles chart yet.

sdizda, are you able to watch the chart on MTV Europe now?
"Whatever It Takes" by Imagine Dragons falls 4 places down.
When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe didn't play "Him & I" by G-Eazy and Halsey (which you saw at number 29). Not that I'm surprised - they broadcast each edition of the chart 3 times and sometimes there are differences between the different broadcasts - some songs are played just during a particular broadcast or even the positions shown are different!...

in edition of the chart aired from 19:00 – 21:00 (the same day).

This is the third time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
And they finally played "Havana" by Camila Cabello! Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, the song has already spent 4 months in the chart, even climbing as high as number 2 several times... and MTV Europe still skipped it the whole time! It seems like for some songs the only chance to get played by MTV Europe is to reach number 1!...

There have been some extremely surprising number ones in the history of MTV Europe's European chart... An example of a baffling chart-topper from last year (2017) is "Slow Hands" by Niall Horan.
...However, I'll have to dig really deep in the archives of the chart to check whether there has EVER been a less deserving number 1 than "Strangers" by Sigrid.
I mean, of course, it's completely possible that the single will become massive in Europe in the upcoming weeks and months. But at the time it reached the top, it had appeared in the singles charts of just 3 European countries - the UK (with a peak position of number 10), Ireland (with a peak position of number 13) and Sigrid's native country, Norway (with a peak position of number 18)... Such a performance shouldn't be enough even for the Top 20 of this chart - let alone the number 1 spot!...

And Kylie Minogue appears for the first time since "Higher", her duet with Taio Cruz in 2011.

"Sick Boy" by The Chainsmokers actually climbs 1 place up.
This is the fifth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
"For You" becomes Rita Ora's second chart-topper after "Anywhere". At the same time, Liam Payne becomes the third member of One Direction to score a number 1 in this chart after Harry Styles (with "Sign Of The Times") and Niall Horan (with "Slow Hands"). Zayn peaked at number 2 with three different singles - "Pillowtalk", "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" and "Dusk Till Dawn". Finally, Louis Tomlinson hasn't managed to enter the Top 10 of the chart yet...

"Havana" by Camila Cabello actually climbs 2 places up.
This is the sixth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
Three songs from the soundtrack of "Fifty Shades Freed" appear simultaneously in the chart - "For You" at number 2, "Capital Letters" at number 35 and "Heaven" at number 50.
And it's great that MTV Europe started playing "River" by Eminem and Ed Sheeran and "God's Plan" by Drake! They have skipped quite a lot of successful songs completely in the past...

This is the seventh time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
"These Days" returns to the top - now it has spent a total of 3 weeks there (in 3 separate runs).
And Portugal. The Man have an extremely impressive achievement! MTV Europe first played "Feel It Still" during the chart of September 9, 2017 - the song was at number 35 then. Now, MORE THAN 6 MONTHS - HALF A YEAR - LATER, it climbs to a new peak position - number 2!

By climbing to number 3, "Paradise" becomes George Ezra's highest-peaking song in the chart. "Budapest" peaked at number 9 and "Blame It On Me" - at number 6.
It's interesting that MTV Europe played "Pray For Me" by The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar. The song doesn't have an official video (yet) so MTV Europe played the lyric video - something which they have done very rarely for other songs.

"IDGAF" by Dua Lipa actually climbs 4 places up.
This is the ninth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
And "Say Something" by Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton returns to the top - this is its second week at number 1.

"For You" by Liam Payne and Rita Ora actually climbs 1 place up.
This is the tenth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40.
When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe showed number 8 as the position of "Freaky Friday" by Lil' Dicky and Chris Brown.
And it's notable that "Paradise" by George Ezra reaches the top. Of course, genre classifications are subjective but I think this is the first rock song to become number 1 in this chart since a long time ago.

I think it's time to rename this Topic name to ''MTV Euro Top 50'' dance.gif dance.gif dance.gif

Posted by: bobiloko 3rd May 2018, 09:31 PM

Yes, MTV Europe play songs placed below the Top 40 more and more often... For a long, long time they never played anything below the Top 40 - as a matter of fact, there were quite a few occasions when they didn't play anything below the Top 30...
But what happens then if they suddenly start playing songs placed below the Top 50?...
That's why I think the best name for the topic would be "MTV Euro Top Chart" - as "Euro Top Chart" is the name MTV Europe themselves show and it doesn't specify whether it's a Top 40, 50 or something else...
I find it curious that MTV Europe played 2 different songs by The Weeknd ("Pray For Me" and "Call Out My Name") during the same edition of the chart... In general, they seem to avoid playing more than one song by an artist...
And in theory "Freaky Friday" becomes Chris Brown's third number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart. The first one was indisputable - "Run It!".
On the other hand, his second one was a complete absurd. It was "Five More Hours", his collaboration with Deorro and it supposedly spent a week at the top. In the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" the number 1 was "Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo while "Five More Hours" was at number 2. However, MTV Europe pretended that "Want To Want Me" doesn't exist and so each song below it moved a place higher!
As a result, "Five More Hours", which was actually at number 2, was presented as the chart-topper...

hello sdizda: in the other hours the same songs or did they show other songs in other positions by chance? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: bobiloko 10th May 2018, 05:50 PM

When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe didn't play "Wolves" by Selena Gomez and Marshmello.
And I had been wondering whether there would come a time when MTV Europe would skip the number 1... Now the time has come! Supposedly, the chart-topper is "Nice For What" by Drake as it's number 1 in the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart... "Nice For What" seems to have an official video so I'm not sure why they skipped it - especially as they played "God's Plan" previously...
Has this happened before? Perhaps. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the chart of June 20, 2015 but the number 1 (judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart) was "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. During the following editions of the chart, MTV Europe NEVER played "Bad Blood". Is it possible that they played it when it actually was at the top? I guess so but it's not very likely... On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if they pretended that "Bad Blood" didn't exist and presented another song as the chart-topper... In any case, I can't know for certain what happened then.
However, I do know what happened now - in the chart of May 5, 2018 MTV Europe did skip the number 1! It's sad and unreal at the same time - what's the purpose of a chart that doesn't show the number 1?!...

Posted by: Euphorique 10th May 2018, 07:36 PM

MTV Europe broadcasts this chart 3 times during the weekend: from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Saturday; from 19:00 to 21:00 CET on Saturday; and from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Sunday. In the editions of this chart from the saturday evening and sunday, they sometimes broadcast videos that weren't broadcast during the premiere edition of the chart. So, for example, in the release of the chart from Saturday night (19:00 to 21:00 CET) they broadcast, at position 47, a video by Selena Gomez & Marshmello - Wolves.

OK, this edition of the chart is definitely an improvement! This time MTV Europe did play "Nice For What" by Drake at number 1! Furthermore, they FINALLY played "Breathe" by Jax Jones (it spent months in the Top 20 and they are only playing it now when it's already out of the Top 20)...
By the way, "Nice For What" is Drake's third number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart. His previous 2 chart-toppers were both duets with Rihanna - "What's My Name?" and "Work".
...And "Wake Me Up!" by Avicii and Aloe Blacc re-enters the chart... It last appeared at number 17 in the chart of March 22, 2014...

"One Kiss" has an official video, what could be the reason MTV Europe didn't play it?...

"One Kiss" is not at the top anymore... I can only hope that it will return to number 1 and then MTV Europe will play it - otherwise it will remain in the history of the chart as a skipped number 1...
The new chart-topper is "Flames", which becomes David Guetta's sixth and Sia's fourth number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart.
Previously, David Guetta reached the top with "When Love Takes Over", "Sexy Chick", "Dangerous" and "This One's For You" while Sia achieved the same with "Cheap Thrills" and "The Greatest"...
...And then they also had a joint number 1 with "Titanium" at the beginning of 2012.
However, the most memorable thing for me in this edition of the chart is that MTV Europe played "Ashes" by Celine Dion! The last time she appeared in the chart before this was at the beginning of 2000 with "That's The Way It Is"... 18 years ago!

Just as I hoped, "One Kiss" returns to number 1 (judging by the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart)... yet MTV Europe skipped it again! Perhaps next week they'll play it?...
It's notable that MTV Europe played 2 different Liam Payne singles (one after the other, actually) - "For You" and "Familiar"... In the past, they often only played one single by an artist during a particular edition of the chart...
And then we come to Eurovision! In previous years it has happened (although seldom) for the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest to appear in this chart. And this time MTV Europe did play "Toy" by נטע (Netta) - but not as a part of the chart!...
In each broadcasting of the chart, MTV Europe plays several songs and then there is an "advertisement period". What happened was that MTV played "Lullaby" by Sigala and Paloma Faith (shown as number 11); then the "advertisement period" started and during it MTV Europe played "Toy" (without any position shown)!... And when the "advertisement period" ended, they played "Nice For What" by Drake (shown as number 9)...
But it gets even more interesting. According to the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, not only is "Toy" at number 10 but "You Let Me Walk Alone" by Michael Schulte is at number 8! "You Let Me Walk Alone" represented Germany at the contest and finished fourth. I'm not surprised at all that MTV Europe didn't play it...
So this means that there are 2 songs from this year's Eurovision Song Contest in the chart. Has there been any other instance when more than one song from a particular edition of Eurovision has appeared in this chart?
YES! Only once - in 1990 (unless it also happened in earlier years but we don't have archives from then). In 1990 both the winner - "Insieme: 1992" by Toto Cutugno - and "White And Black Blues" by Joelle Ursull (which represented France and finished second) entered MTV Europe's European chart!

"Flames" by David Guetta and Sia returns to the top and thus scores a second week at number 1. Meanwhile, MTV Europe still refuse to play "One Kiss"...
"Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker first appeared in the chart at the very beginning of 2018. It peaked at number 10 in the chart of February 10... But now, 4 months later, it improves on its peak position and reaches number 9!
This time MTV Europe did play "Toy" as a part of the chart - at number 15. It's the second Eurovision song from Israel to appear in MTV Europe's European chart after "Diva" by Dana International peaked at number 10 in 1998 - exactly 20 years ago!
And Backstreet Boys return to the chart! "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" becomes their first single in the chart since "Inconsolable" back in 2007...

When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe also played "Mine" by Bazzi at number 40.
"Freaky Friday" by Lil' Dicky and Chris Brown actually climbs 13 places up; "Nice For What" by Drake actually climbs 2 places up.
"I'll Be There" becomes Jess Glynne's third solo number 1 after "Hold My Hand" and "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself". In addition, she reached the top with "These Days" earlier this year; before that - with "Not Letting Go" with Tinie Tempah; and before that - with "Rather Be" with Clean Bandit (although I didn't credit her for that).
"Fall In Line" is Christina Aguilera's first appearance in the chart since "Say Something", her collaboration with A Great Big World from 2014.
And with Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion and Backstreet Boys being simultaneously in the chart, I get the feeling like it's the end of 1999/beginning of 2000 again...

When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe also played "Hunger" by Florence & The Machine at number 46.
"Flames" by David Guetta and Sia returns to the top for a third (nonconsecutive) week - the song has had 3 separate one-week runs at number 1.
MTV Europe played 24 songs which were a part of this edition of the chart. It's actually impressive that 12 of the songs (half of them!) were ones that MTV Europe hadn't played during the previous edition of the chart. A couple of those - like "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes - had been in the chart for weeks but MTV Europe only played them for the first time now...
What surprised me the most was "Echame La Culpa" by Luis Fonsi and Demi Lovato. MTV Europe played it during several editions of the chart at the beginning of 2018... and then they stopped playing it - although, judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, the song spent many more weeks in the Top 20... And now, months later, it suddenly reappears at number 14!

It's been a long time since MTV Europe DIDN'T play songs placed below the Top 40!
It's surprising to see both "Paradise" and "Shotgun" by George Ezra in the chart. Usually MTV Europe don't play 2 songs by the same (main) artist during one and the same edition of the chart...
MTV Europe first played "Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker during the chart of January 6, 2018. Now, almost 6 months later, it suddenly reaches a new peak position - number 3!
And "Solo" becomes Clean Bandit's fourth number 1 after "Rather Be", "Rockabye" and "Symphony". On the other hand, this is the first time Demi Lovato reaches the top spot.

1 Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman 29 Up

As I was watching this edition of the chart and it became clear that there would be a new number 1, I somehow knew that it would be "God Is A Woman" by Ariana Grande. As unlikely as it was, with my extra-sensory perception I felt that it had climbed 29 places to the top...
Its 30-1 jump is the biggest in the history of this chart. At least the biggest which we know about. It's completely possible that a previous number 1 climbed from a lower position but MTV Europe didn't play it during the edition of the chart preceding the one where it reached the top spot...
So "God Is A Woman" becomes Ariana Grande's second number 1 after "Bang Bang", her collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj from 2014.
This is also the second chart-topper whose title makes a statement about what God is. The first one was "God Is A DJ" by Faithless back in 1998 (20 years ago!).

"Shotgun" by George Ezra returns to number 1 - this is its third (nonconsecutive) week there.
And "In My Feelings" by Drake has an official video now but that wasn't what MTV Europe played. I'm not even sure what the "status" of the video they played is...

I'm not sure whether this is a revolution... but at the very least it's a big evolution!
Lately, MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" hasn't been in a good state. Too many songs from the lower reaches of the chart were being played, even some songs placed below the Top 40. At the same time, MTV Europe just refused to play some huge hits in the chart - including a number 1!...
Fortunately, all this changes in this edition of the chart, which marks a return to the good old days of 2014-2015, when most of the songs played were from the upper part of the chart and in the majority of cases high-placed songs were skipped only if they didn't have an official video.
What this means is that MTV Europe has finally played some songs which first appeared in the chart MONTHS ago but for mysterious reasons MTV Europe refused to play them week after week and month after month...
One such example is "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5, which (judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart) has been in the Top 20 for more than 2 months.
An even sadder example is "If You're Over Me" by Years And Years, which also spent 2 months in the Top 20 of the chart... but MTV Europe is only playing it now that it's left the Top 20!...
And, of course, we come to the most absurd case. Probably the only number 1 which MTV Europe didn't play while it was at the top... "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa.
"Nice For What" by Drake spent 2 (consecutive) weeks at the top earlier in the year. While MTV Europe shamefully skipped the song during its first week at the top, they corrected themselves the following week when they did play it at number 1...
"One Kiss" didn't have such luck. It spent 2 nonconsecutive weeks at the top... and in both of those editions, MTV Europe just skipped it!!!
In fact, "One Kiss" has been in the chart for more than 4 months... Mercifully, MTV Europe have finally played it - but it's not in the Top 10 anymore... and it didn't get the honour of being played at number 1 - although there was absolutely no reason why the video shouldn't be played back then. At least I have no idea what could be so controversial about that video...
Still, there are other remarkable things about this edition of the chart, too. While there have been bigger falls from number 2, it was somewhat surprising to see "No Brainer" go 2-15...
And "Shotgun" by George Ezra returns to number 1 again - this is its fifth (nonconsecutive) week there. The song has had 3 separate runs at the top.
I really, REALLY hope that this is what the chart is going to look like in the future!

"Body" by Loud Luxury becomes one of the most shocking number ones in the history of the chart... At least it's more successful in Europe than "Strangers" by Sigrid!...
Yes, you read that correctly. "Strangers" by Sigrid - a song which only reached number 6 in Norway, number 7 in Ireland and number 10 in the UK... and didn't appear in the singles chart of any other European country... Yet somehow it managed to spend not one but TWO weeks at the top of this chart!?...

Janet Jackson appears for the first time since "Feedback" charted back in 2008 - 10 years ago!
Interestingly, Panic! At The Disco also appear in the chart for the first time since 2008, when "Nine In The Afternoon" became their only song to reach MTV Europe's European chart... until now! At that time their name was Panic At The Disco (without an exclamation mark).
It's nice to see MTV Europe play songs which haven't reached the UK singles chart but are having success in other European countries - like "Oh Child" by Robin Schulz this time. On the other hand, I'll never approve of songs appearing in this chart if they can only be found in the UK (and Irish) singles chart - for example, "Lost Without You" by Freya Ridings...

1 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

"Promises" becomes Sam Smith's third number 1 in the chart after "Writing's On The Wall" and "Too Good At Goodbyes".
What about Calvin Harris? His previous chart-toppers include 2 collaborations with Rihanna - "We Found Love" and "This Is What You Came For"; as well as "Summer", "Blame" (supposedly - I missed that edition of the chart), "How Deep Is Your Love", "Feels"... and then we come to the big controversy - "One Kiss", which reached the top in 2 nonconsecutive weeks... Yet MTV Europe never played it at number 1 - they just skipped it on both occasions!
Oh, and I find it totally farcical that Anne-Marie appears simultaneously in the chart with 2 different songs where she sings "LEAVE ME ALONE, let me live my life" in one song and "DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE" in the other one!

1 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me

Posted by: bobiloko 19th October 2018, 01:07 PM

There seems to be a tiny difference between this edition of the chart and the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart. In MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart "Head Above Water" by Avril Lavigne is at number 15 while here it's at number 16.
Otherwise, this is Avril Lavigne's first appearance in this chart since "What The Hell" in 2011.
We also have a new number 1! "Let You Love Me" becomes Rita Ora's third chart-topper after "Anywhere" and her duet with Liam Payne "For You". At least so far, "Let You Love Me" is an even less deserving number 1 than "Anywhere" (it's not really having a lot of success around Europe)...

"Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith returns to the number 1 spot for a fourth week there.
And with "Shallow" Lady GaGa reaches the Top 2 of the chart for the first time since the end of 2011, when "Marry The Night" peaked at number 2.

Sometimes there are extremely mysterious appearances in this chart. For example, as far as I know, "Pressure" by Muse hasn't appeared in the singles chart of any European country... yet somehow it's at number 39 here!
"Shallow" becomes Lady GaGa's seventh number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart after "Poker Face", "Bad Romance", "Telephone", "Alejandro", "Born This Way" and "The Edge Of Glory".
When it comes to Bradley Cooper - I'm not sure which people count as mainly actors and not singers but, for example, Nicole Kidman reached the top at the beginning of 2002 with her duet with Robbie Williams "Somethin' Stupid".

According to MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, "Taste" by Tyga and Offset spent several weeks in the Top 20 a few weeks ago... However, until now MTV Europe refused to play the song. They have only played it for the first time now, when it's already outside the Top 40!

They also refuse to play "In My Mind"

MTV Europe has changed its schedule. Now the "Euro Top Chart" is broadcast from 19:00 to 21:00 CET on Friday; from 11:00 to 13:00 CET on Saturday; and from 9:00 to 11:00 CET on Sunday.
As Euphorique noted, MTV Europe refuse to play "In My Mind" by Dynoro and Gigi D'Agostino. Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20", the song has spent months in the chart, climbing as high as number 3 (it's actually at number 3 in this latest edition of the chart as well)... yet MTV Europe never played it!
However, this situation is different because "In My Mind" doesn't have an official video. Still, MTV Europe have shown that they can find a solution in such cases at least once before. "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber spent 4 weeks at the top of this chart while it still didn't have an official video. And MTV Europe played some video for "Let Me Love You" - I'm not sure what the status of that video is but it seemed to include parts from Justin Bieber's video for "I'll Show You"...
"Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith returns to number 1 - this is its fifth (nonconsecutive) week there. Now the song has had 3 separate runs at the top.

Shockingly, "Let You Love Me" by Rita Ora returns to number 1, achieving a second week at the top. I must admit that the song is doing better across Europe now... but still definitely not enough for the number 1 spot!

"Goodbye" by Jason Derulo is something like a "cover" of "Time To Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. That famous duet was a huge hit around Europe... yet it has never appeared in MTV Europe's European chart.
I was ready to swear that the 40-3 jump of "Polaroid" is the biggest in the history of the chart... but it turns out that it only equals the record. "Play That Song" by Train also went 37 places up (44-7) in the chart of February 18, 2017!
And "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith is back at number 1 for a sixth (nonconsecutive) week - a total accumulated over 4 separate runs at the top. As a matter of fact, only one song has had more separate runs at number 1 in this chart - 5! - "Alors On Danse" by Stromae achieved it in 2010.

"Let You Love Me" by Rita Ora returns to number 1 - this is its third (nonconsecutive) week there. Now the song has had 3 separate runs at the top. "Anywhere" also spent 3 weeks at number 1 but all of them were consecutive; while Rita's duet with Liam Payne, "For You", spent just a single week at the top.

MTV Europe played a total of 25 songs from this edition of the chart. Extremely rarely have they played so many different songs from one edition of the chart! The lowest number of songs I have seen MTV Europe play is 21; the highest is 26 (which I think only happened once).

Just like last year, during the last week of this year MTV Europe broadcast a special edition of the chart - for the whole year 2018!
Some of the inclusions are questionable as they weren't really among the most successful songs in this chart in 2018... On the other hand, there are some notable omissions - mainly songs that reached number 1. Here are the chart-toppers from this year which weren't included in this edition: "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran; "Havana" by Camila Cabello; "Strangers" by Sigrid (yes, it really reached number 1!); "These Days" by Rudimental and Jess Glynne (which should have been in the Top 3 of this edition); "For You" by Liam Payne and Rita Ora; "Paradise" by George Ezra; "Freaky Friday" by Lil' Dicky and Chris Brown; "Nice For What" by Drake; "God Is A Woman" by Ariana Grande; "In My Feelings" by Drake; and "Sweet But Psycho" by Ava Max.
And then we come to the most interesting part - the song at number 2. For some reason MTV Europe refused to play "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa for almost its whole chart run - they only played it during 2 weeks at the end end of its run when it was at number 14 and number 16, respectively. Before that "One Kiss" had spent months in the Top 10, including 2 weeks at the top - yet the sad fact remains that MTV Europe never played it at number 1 (they skipped the number 1 position during those 2 editions)...
Well, perhaps MTV Europe's playing the song as the number 2 in the edition of the chart for the whole 2018 is some kind of an apology!
