Kasabian's Official Top 10 biggest singles revealed
03 May 2017 | By Rob Copsey

After 20 years together and now on to their sixth album, we get under the bonnet of Kasabian's biggest hits and reveal their top sellers.

After 20 years together and now on to their sixth album, Kasabian have fully established themselves as the biggest psychedelic rockers on the block.

The band - Tom Meighan, Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews - release their latest record this month, called For Crying Out Loud. Arriving three years after the chart-topping 48:13, Serge told NME fans can expect a a "feel-good" collection of "guitar heavy" bangers.

The Leicester band have a strong track record on the Official Chart, with four of their five studio albums reaching Number 1, as well as landing a 12 Top 40 singles.

To celebrate their new release, OfficialCharts.com has delved back into their classics to reveal their biggest hits...

Empire (2006)

Placing fourth on their all-time Top 10 is title track of their first Number 1 album, Empire. The song, which had a strong anti-war message, reached Number 9 in 2006 - the highest new entry on the Official Singles Chart that week.

Empire (the single) has shifted 212,500 across physical, download and streaming equivalent sales. It's also their biggest selling single on vinyl, having sold just over 4,000 on the format.

Underdog (2009)

In third is Underdog, the third single from their 2009 record West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Despite peaking at Number 32, it remains one of the band's most popular tracks, featured on numerous films, TV shows and, somewhat unsurprisingly, several sporting events across football, snooker, rugby and even Formula 1.

Club Foot (2004)

In the runner-up spot is the hit that started it all. Club Foot made it to Number 19 on its first release in 2004, and was reissued the following year, when it managed a respectable Number 21. It’s shifted over 322,000 equivalent units to date.

And Number 1 is...

It’s no coincidence that the track at the top of the heap is their highest-charting single. Fire, also taken from West Ryder... is their biggest seller - 610,000 equivalent units to date.

In an interview with the Guardian at the time of the track’s release, lead singer Tom Meighan described Fire as “flipping out”, and he wasn’t wrong – it managed to flip out all the way up to the dizzy heights of Number 3 in 2009.

When it comes to albums, the band's biggest is, ironically, their only not to reach Number 1 - their 2004 self-titled debut. The record, which reached Number 4, has sold just over 1 million copies. 2006's Empire is second (803,000), with West Ryder... close behind (800,000) in third.
