The normal ratio is 100 streams = 1 sale, but is this really the best ratio, now that streaming is the dominant method of consuming music?

How many of us actually listen to new song 100 times anyway (say within one year)? unsure.gif

Also, some tracks get listened to just once, so see if people like it - but even if they don't, they still count towards the charts. That doesn't seem quite right to me.

Only song I've listened to over 100 times this year is Shallow. Usually max 50 times.

Just to be clear, it’s not 100 of your own streams of a song that equals 1 sale as that would take ages. It’s 100 streams in general. I’m sure you get that but your OP doesn’t read in that way tongue.gif

It’s very easy for a song to accumulate 100 streams in total from the general public and anyway I believe an individual’s streaming of a track that counts towards a sale is capped daily?

My most played track of 2018 has 61 plays? Well that’s what last.fm has scrobbled but I know that some here will well succeed that tongue.gif

1. Correct

2. I'm not sure there's a daily cap?

3. Probably the only songs I listen to anything like that much are Ellie Goulding, and Lana Del Rey.

Even if I loved a song, I couldn't listen to it that many times, or I'd go loopy! ohmy.gif

If I like it probably around 30-40 times. I'm not sure I've listened to any song 100 times!

My most played tracks of 2018 are at 76 (God's Plan), 72 (Sicko Mode) and 63 (Nice For What) plays, so not even one sale for any of them

The daily cap is 10 streams per day per user.
This daily cap was introduced from the beginning on.

IIRC I think the cap is 10 plays per user in a day?

I can’t say I listen to the same song 100 times within a year via Spotify. I’d say 50 at max!

Obviously I don’t know if this could be done but I’ve always thought streams should be calculated by if a person adds it to their own library or playlist and that should count as one sale no matter how many times they play it. To me that is the same as downloading a song. So say they like a song on Hot Hits they add that to their library and that’s one sale that’s the same as listening to song on the radio and going to buy it from iTunes.

Including 1,150 for Close To Me and 750 for Fuego ohmy.gif

I don't count how many listens on my device but I voted 26-50 as I usually add them to my playlist for up to 6 weeks max!

I don't know what my most streamed tracks for this year are but it's safe to say most, if not all, are on ACR! They are mostly from before the 00s...

It’s quite rare for me to play a particular track 100+ times overall!

I like the idea but it'd make the chart a lot easier to rig
