Oh God! I'll never forget seeing her at the filming of Xmas TOTP in 2018 be an absolute horrid cow to the production staff over the microphone because she had to perform the song again (which pretty much everyone had to anyway). It really disgusted me as so many artists would feel privileged to be in her position. I thought and hoped her time away might humble her a bit, but clearly not! |

I have to say if you dont like her stay out of this thread.
I am here for fans/people revealing stories of when they met her whether they are positive or negative but some of the posts are ridiculous and unnecessary. |

I don't really have an opinion of Jess either way. She's done some bad things. Definitely. She's apologised but aside from that I don't think she's tried to make amends either. I'm happy to listen to her music but to be honest anything she's released from this is very boring so I'm not into this era. I'm all for forgiving and moving on though.

Putting aside what she's like as a person, there's really nothing interesting on her album (maybe a couple of songs I'd go back to) so I'm actually shocked it's on course for top 5. |

Your first post to me was that I'm "behaving badly" and must "do better"... I haven't revelled in how she is flopping (she's actually doing better than I expected) but I can't help but feel she brought it upon herself by being so unlikable I don't know of anything Jess has done for the trans community since that podcast apart from in a recent interview claim the community were supposed to support her instead. It's also come out that she stood up fans who were promised a photo at an album signing, only for Jess to ignore them while drinking with her mates. My first post was actually directed at a number of posters but it’s hardly surprising to see you make it all about you. Most other posters seem to have just ignored my post. I have even reported at least one post in here that was actually removed so I guess the mods agreed with my assessment of it. Just so we’re clear, it wasn’t a post of yours. And as for telling you to do better, that was my second post and only there because you decided to double down on why you have the right to be nasty about someone. Again, you had the chance to just ignore what I’d said. I never said Jess had done anything for the Trans community except apologise which she did promptly. Perhaps she hasn’t done anything for them but I just enjoy her music and don’t really follow such things so wouldn’t know anyway. I just genuinely think she gets too hard a time on here. And that extends to way before she made a transphobic slur. People will have been waiting to jump on her for ages, I was amazed her second album did as well as it did given she was very much hated around here. Unfortunately, she has given people reason to validate their hatred of her but let’s not pretend that many people didn’t just hate her anyway already. |

It charted at #6 with 6,829 sales.
I Cry When I Laugh opened with 59,117, selling 1,510,678 in total. Always in Between opened with 36,449, selling 577,641 in total. A combination of the market having fallen off for most artists since but she just didn't really have the momentum this time. This post has been edited by Hassaan: 4th May 2024, 08:56 AM |

It's diminishing returns which a lot of big UK female artists have faced, whether through mismanagement or otherwise (Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Rita Ora, Jessie J, Cheryl, Duffy etc). Shame that many UK female artists rarely have longevity in the music industry in the UK. |

Jess should have been cancelled back in 2018 for assault to the ears. These stories don’t surprise me though, she’s always had a whiff of entitlement and arrogance about her.

I was aware that she was back but there might have been many who weren't, as she made little impact on the singles chart this time round.I'm surprised she didn't have a feature this time round like with Rudimental last time, but maybe that was a conscious choice. |

Just finishing my first listen and I do quite like what I hear, not sure it’ll be my fave of hers but it’s decent enough. I’d argue that given the context it’s probably performed better than expectations despite obviously being a huge comedown from her previous success. I saw people mention earlier that surely she’s surprised nothing has taken off in this era and although I do think she’s often quite ignorant, I don’t think that’s the case at all. There aren’t really any stand out singles on the album and I think she’s not actually aimed for that success this time, probably knowing that she’d damaged her reputation quite a bit over the years with some of the mistakes she’s made. It doesn’t feel like this project has been pushed at all really and that may be by design. She has commented recently that she found fame hard and given a lot of the backlash she’s faced, perhaps she just wants to release music quietly. After all, she’s had the big hits and album sales. She could easily have attached herself to some dance features to stay in the limelight over the past 5 years like Ella Henderson or Becky Hill but she seems to have chosen not to. She does mention personal growth in the album sleeve and perhaps she had become more humbled by her experiences.
Someone mentioned earlier that she should have been cancelled for her music even before the bad press and comments like that just reinforce my theory that some people just disliked her anyway and were delighted whenever she did or said something stupid because it just validated an opinion they’d already formed. |

She had a reaaally annoying song, and they then took that song and put it to a reaaally annoying advert ... and that was that. People couldn't stand her sound after that. |

"Departing the Top 200 in a hurry – last week’s No.6, Jess (1,030 sales) by Jess Glynne. Glynne’s instant departure is a massive contrast to debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, which racked up an initial Top 10 run of 39 weeks, and Top 75 run of 94 weeks in 2015/2017; and follow-up, Always In Between, which was Top 10 for five straight weeks and Top 75 for 58 weeks in 2018/2019." (Source: Music Week)
The amount of weeks she's spent in the UK Top 200 with her albums: #1, 443 weeks - I Cry When I Laugh #1, 150 weeks - Always in Between #6, 1 week - Jess I Cry When I Laugh is almost always in the Top 200. In fact since its release in 2015, it’s only been absent from the Top 200 for 12 weeks! |
