Bit of a belated release in the UK, but after rave reviews and some awards buzz, this is now out in the UK. The debut film from former YouTuber, Bo Burnham, it explores the coming of age and attempts of fitting in of an eighth grader (I believe aged around 13/14) with social anxiety in an internet-obsessed society.
I really would recommend this to everyone, as someone that also has social anxiety and struggled at school, it was so relatable. Social media was only just taking off when I was her age, and I did certainly find some of the themes familiar and the actress was truly excellent and didn't feel the least bit caricatured. A triumph. |
