Taylor Swift’s career may have blossomed a little later in the UK than elsewhere (her first UK hit came four years after her US debut), but boy has she made up for it since.
In just under a decade, she’s notched up 19 Top 40 hits on the Official Singles Chart, nine of which are Top 10s, plus two Number 1 albums. Not bad, right? That’s amounted to over 8.5 million sales of her singles (when physical, downloads and streaming equivalent sales are combined) - and despite limiting availability of her catalogue on streaming services until very recently, she’s still managed to rack up over 183 million plays across her singles alone. She’s a heavyweight when it comes to albums too; shifting some 2.7 million across her five releases in the UK. She’s got quite the reputation, you could say (sorry). With a healthy batch of hits under her belt and to celebrate the release of her new single Look What You Made Me Do and upcoming album Reputation, Official Charts reveals her biggest hits so far, based on sales and streams, below. Style An instant fan favourite on her 1989 album, Style somehow – somehow – wasn’t quite the hit most assumed it would become, despite safe-bet hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback (and Taylor) at the helm. The track reached Number 21 on the Official Singles Chart (it fared much better in the US where it peaked at 6), its chart chances hampered in part by her decision to keep her music off streaming services. As such, Style is Taylor’s tenth biggest single in the UK, with 372,000 combined sale Love Story Taylor’s breakout hit in the UK was very nearly a Number 1 single, peaking at Number 2 behind Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You (what a time to be alive). Taylor has the last laugh though – her song has 799,000 combined sales to date - 337,000 more than Kelly’s. As the title suggests, the song literally tells a love story, something Taylor is particularly good at. It’s sweet, enchanting, and once the lyrics have been learned, ridiculously catchy. I Knew You Were Trouble The second proper single from her 2012 album Red, there was much debate over who I Knew You Were Trouble was about, with most speculating it was about her ex John Mayer. The song was a Taylor/Max Martin/Shellback affair and was her first and only foray into the dubstep genre – albeit mildly. In fact, part of the song’s success was down to the wobbly bit in the song where Taylor yells “Oh! Oh!”, which sparked thousands of lols YouTube videos replacing her with everything between a wrestler and a goat. Good times. Shake It Off Taylor didn’t leave anything to chance with the launch of her 1989 album, leading with the peppy, super-catchy, sure-fire hit Shake It Off. It was the moment Taylor not only declared that she belonged among pop’s top dogs, but when she proclaimed herself the world’s biggest popstar, and so it was. It’s fitting, then, that it’s also her biggest single in the UK, with 1.7 million combined sales in the UK (that's a terrible typo!), made up of 960,000 downloads and 20.8 million streams. Despite being a huge success, it just missed out on topping the Official Singles Chart, peaking at 2, behind Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass. 'Style' suffered from lack of Spotify, and I think if Apple Music was available at the time it'd get a top-20 peak.

I imagine there is a big gap between wildest dreams and everything below it. Wildest dreams and all above it have at least been awarded silver certification for 200,000 units+
