Joy
Following the release of his fourth No.1 album, ‘85% Proof’, Will Young announces new single ‘Joy’, out on Island Records – impact date of 25th September. A euphoric, uplifting ballad, ‘Joy’ is the third single to be taken from Will’s new, critically acclaimed and sixth studio album, which already boasts the comeback single Love Revolution, and the stunning follow-up Thank You.
‘Joy’, written by Will with collaborators Jim Eliot & Mima Stilwell, is at once a perfect testament to Will’s innate ability to craft endearing, effortless anthems, while also demonstrating his evolution as a songwriter.
‘85% Proof’ is the sixth album from the multi-million selling Brit Award winning singer-songwriter and represents his most accomplished work to date. Arriving at the top of the charts (making is his fourth No.1 album), ‘85% Proof’ is an eclectic, hugely confident and startlingly human record which continues to cement Will’s status as both a national icon and reigning artistic powerhouse. The Guardian said it was ‘A reminder of how good Young can be’ and Sunday Times Culture have described ‘slick production.. practically spins out of the speakers’.
Along with the success of ’85% Proof’ Will has confirmed his long-awaited UK ‘Love Revolution Tour’ – his first nation-wide tour in four years. ‘The Love Revolution Tour’, will start in York on 29th October and run across the UK & Ireland, finishing in London at the Hammersmith Apollo on 29th November. ’85% Proof’ follows up Will’s No 1 album ‘Echoes’ released in 2011 which has sold over half a million copies. In the intervening years Will moved back to theatre staring as The Emcee in Cabaret (for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award); presented an ITV documentary on surrealist artist Magritte; filtered his passion for politics and social commentary via blogs for the likes of the Huffington Post & Guardian; wrote a best-selling biography and fronted a campaign for Stonewall. He also started teaching and mentoring other singer-songwriters.
Produced by previous collaborator Jim Eliot (Mikky Ekko, Ellie Goulding), ‘85% Proof’ is a creative reflection of Will’s extracurricular activities post-Echoes and his most personal/honest songwriting to date. Writing and recording for the new record also coincided with a move to a brand new label, Island Records.

I think I'm immune to worries about AirPlay now he's doing increased live stuff so I'm accepting of this rather than thrilled. I do like it despite my initial surprise at it being on the album.

I do think its quite funny apart from the handful that disliked both singles, lots of fan were going nuts he released TY but a few loved it ( which most could not understand) now its totally switched, all the TY fans are so unhappy with the Joy release and most of the TY haters like it

The first two singles for me were all wrong. Joy isn't a particular fav of mine but at least it isn't Blue!

Oh no! I wanted Gold. Would be gold dust for XMas sales. Or Blue would have been or Promise Me.
Not happy. Least fave song on there for me...

I agree Sajjadali. I'm so used to, and love, Will's fabulous meaningful and great lyrics and melodies - and this just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. There are much better son gs on the album and, as one of the girls over on Devoted has said, and I agree with her, he threw away - Like a River - for me one of the best tracks and videos.

I think we all have such different tastes as fans because i dont like the song and i absolutely hate the video i watched it twice and one of those times was to show hubby ( he always likes Wills videos) he hated it as well and even i was surprised at his venom for it ( he also hated TY which again is very unsual for him)

I wondered why my TiVo box was recording this show, and the virgin media guide said it was Will's triple week (I have a Will Young search on it so it records anything with Will in the guide) but I think it's been moved as he's doing a tribute to Cilla Black. I just heard Joy and he said it was the brand new one from Will Young and he'd be doing his triple in a few weeks time.

I really like "Joy" so I'm happy with it. It is basically "Anything could happen" part 2 so it is radio friendly.
This album is very strong anyway

More details re the video.
This lead character will be a mannequin/test dummy styled and dressed like a USA 1950’s housewife.
The mannequin comes to life and escapes an atomic bomb testing range to escape and party,
experiencing the joy of being alive whilst running and dancing around a field.
Caucasian female aged 20-30, slim waist, the 1950’s female ideal. Must be comfortable with prosthetic face make-up. Role will require some improvised movements and dancing and interaction with the male star of the video so dancing / choreography / stage experience a big plus!
The shoot is on Monday 10th August in London. Payment is TBC

I did worry Joy might suffer the same fate but then it's much more radio friendly than Thank You. I wonder if any other stations are playing it. The comparemyradio site doesn't seem to be updating plays.

Joy has received 3 early morning plays on radio 2 but they are not showing up on comparemy radio. Makes me wonder if other stations may have played it.
