"Big Eyes" is the latest film by Tim Burton, which was released New Year's day in Greek theaters. It is based on a true story and the two main roles are performed by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz. The film was nominated for three Golden Globes, including "Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy", "Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy" and "Best Original Song" from which Amy Adams was the big winner. The film has also been proposed by Bafta for "Best Actress in a Leading Role" and "Best Production Design" but it seemed that the Academy Awards was not particulary moved by this film and for this reason it stayed out of the competition. "Big Eyes" features comic and dramatic elements. I thought that it might be a little boring before I went to see it, but eventually "Big Eyes" was very pleasant on the big screen.
The film's name is a reference to the famous portraits of children with very large eyes which were painted by Margaret Keane. Her acquaintance with the second husband was decisive after he promoted her work and made it recognizable in all of America during the 50's and 60's. With one important difference though: He displayed her works as if they were his own and in the end, they had to go to court after the scandal was made public. The scenario is interesting, the dialogues are well written and the image is filled with very bright colors. Besides, all the movies of Tim Burton's have this feature in directing. It has good music and convinces that the story progresses at that time based on the sets and the clothes of the cast. The performances are very good by both actors and Amy Adams once again proves that she can play any role. The problem is that the characters who she plays everytime are a little lukewarm and weak compared to other Oscar female characters. I think that is the main reason why she was deprived of the Golden Statuette whenever she is proposed. Except of course, her performance in "American Hustle" who played a very dynamic female character but coincided with the excellent performance of Cate Blanchett in "Blue Jasmine". However, Tim Burton did right by choosing her for "Big Eyes" and there was chemistry between the leading couple.
"Big Eyes" is not one of those movies that has big success and this is evidenced by the experience so far in the Box Office. It is a very special story that attracts very specific audience to go see it. However, Tim Burton presented it in such a way so as to be suitable for wide consumption. Nevertheless, it has gathered a relatively good rating on IMDb and generally received positive reviews from experts in the film industry. It is not of the best films by Tim Burton, but I think it's worth watching for the overall results.

Really wanted to see this in the cinema but didn't get a chance

Big eyes and I can fly are both amazing tracks though (and are both next to each other in my personal chart this week coincidentally)

We have to admit that Amy Adams hasn't played many powerful characters in her movies so far..For example, she hasn't a similar role like Erin Brockovich in "Erin Brockovich", Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady", Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen", Aileen Wuornos in "Monster", Maggie Fitzgerald in "Million Dollar Baby", Marge Gunderson in "Fargo", Annie Wilkes in "Misery", Clarice Starling in "The Silence of the Lambs", Norma Rae Webster in "Norma Rae" etc. All of them won the Oscar for "Best Actress". She usually plays the good and sensitive woman with a few exceptions like her roles in "The Master" and "American Hustle". In my opinion, she hasn't given her best performance yet. However, she has the potential to do it.

Julianne Moore's character in Still Alice is not a "powerful" character and she still won. It's got nothing to do with being a powerful woman. The characters Amy plays are not weak or lukewarm at all.

I haven't watched "Still Alice" yet and I really didn't know Julianne's character in this movie. However, her role is about a person who suffers from Alzheimer. This give a more serious meaning to her performance. Do you believe that Amy Adams is better than her roles or her roles are better than her? Because I believe that she is much better than her roles. I wouldn't say the same about other actresses.
