Do you believe in tactical voting?
This is MUCH more prevalent in Scotland where it’s possible that tactical votes from Labour and the Lib Dems to the Tories may have kept May in office There’s no seat in Scotland where the Tories are in first place and the SNP aren’t the main opposition so I’d never need to vote otherwise but elsewhere in the UK I’d be prepared to vote Labour or Lib Dem to keep a Tory out! |

Despite living in Northern Ireland, where you are almost mandated to vote tactically to vote to keep "them'uns" out, I've never engaged in such. I just vote for the candidate I like the most (or occasionally, the candidate I dislike the least), even if they don't have a viable shot at being elected. You may not think it wise to do so, but it's what I feel most comfortable doing.

I live in a bulletproof labour seat now so there's nothing for me to be tactical about. Fairly pleased with my MP

I hate the fact that tactical voting exists. However, under First Past The Post, it is inevitable. Therefore, in my political campaigning, I have encouraged it. When I stood as a council candidate in Southwark (in my mid twenties) I claimed that a vote for me (and my fellow Alliance candidates) was the only effective anti-Labour vote. When I stood in Woking I said that a vote for me was the only effective anti-Tory vote. On both occasions I was telling the truth, but the fact that I made that part of my campaign is just a feature of our terrible electoral system.

I used to vote tactically here in Cheltenham to keep the Tories out, but that involved voting for the LD's, which for reasons you can probably guess, is no longer an option, even tactically.

Well, yes because Cheltenham Council will be the ultimate arbiters of our relationship with the EU.

Well, yes because Cheltenham Council will be the ultimate arbiters of our relationship with the EU. Very droll - but I was thinking of the parliamentary seat. As it happens, we have an unusual situation whereby the LD's are strongly in control of the local council, but we still have a Tory MP. I would vote tactically, for the party most likely to keep out the Tories wherever I live. Excluding the nutty fringe.
However I dont need to these days as Libdem's are the main opposition locally in Poole/Dorset. If only 5000 Labour supporters had done the same (vote tactically) then Cheltenham would have turned... I used to live round that area..... |

Tbh, as bad as this sounds I would've been tempted to vote Tory in 2015 if I lived in Nigel Farage's seat just to keep that smarmy c*** out *.* No. other. circumstances.
