At first I didn't think this looked very interesting at all but it's getting surprisingly good reviews and the actors are all stellar so quite looking forward to this now, apparently it is dumbed down a fair bit so we're not all lost between the jargon which is always a good thing.

So this was dull as expected. There was no one to like, no one to root for. It needed more Selena Gomez. I couldn't decide whether I liked the narration style that they had going on with Ryan Gosling or not - it all came across as rather smug. And I really don't understand the Christian Bale nomination - Jacob Tremblay is missing for this?!?!?

I was quite excited for this going in to it because it seems to be one of the Best Picture frontrunners but it ended up being one of my least favourite movies of the year. Even though they tried to dumb it down I still just didn't have a clue what about 30% of the dialogue meant which just made the film ultimately really boring ans by the end I was just lost as to what was going on anymore.

The acting was really solid throughout and thought Ryan Gosling did really well so a bit shocked he never got more awards talk. There were some funny bits too which kept my attention but I really didn't enjoy this.

I can understand why it was popular but the fact that this got nommed over stuff like Carol is so sad. The editing was fantastic though so wouldn't mind it winning an Oscar there.

Loved it. I have a loathing for bankers, politicians and regulators, their selfishness and corruption and what they did and what they continue to do - they all got away scot free and blame others, so it's great to have it all distilled down into what actually happened and why they should never be forgiven. As shown here, the sheer scale of the mutually-involved corruption is breath-taking and is a damning indictment of human nature, the callousness, evil and stupidity of the rich and powerful, and the helplessness of those who end up paying the price - the poor, and the usual scapegoats every time the powerful need one to get away with stuff: the immigrants.

I was rooting for the stars but I can see why it will never be a blockbuster, it's not romance, action, melodrama, but it is beautifully written and acted (especially Steve Carrell, who is the moral heart of the film, and yes Christian Bale - never been a fan but he does an amazing job here as a socially dysfunctional logic-genius). I liked how they boiled down complex bureaucratic corruption schemes into gambling and other easy-to-follow explanations, I liked the guest pop-ins to assist, and I empathised so much with Steve Carrells' Mark Baum - indignant with the injustice of it all.

If you want to understand why I distrust almost everyone in powerful positions and organisations, pretty much it's all here...

"The Big Short" is a biographical comedy-drama film which was released in my country's cinemas in the first week of the year. It is based on the homonymous book by Michael Lewis and deals with the global economic crisis that broke out during 2007-2008. "The Big Short" received rave reviews from the biggest movie sites and it received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing! Famous and acclaimed actors were involved in the cast and there are several cameo appearances too. Having only seen three movies until that period such as Joy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Brooklyn, "The Big Short" was to be my next choice.
The movie basically presents the big real estate market bubble that erupted in the United States and entailed the financial crisis of 2008, as a consequence the collapse of the global market. Since the beginning of the film we watch the movements of four small investors who bet against the banking system and in the end come out big winners. The film explains the laws of the market with intelligent and comprehensive examples which are analyzed by the main actors and celebrities in cameo appearances. "The Big Short" had very funny scenes, well-written dialogues and incredibly well structured characters. The versatile Adam McKay not only took over the directorial piece of the movie but also wrote the script along with Charles Randolph. Although, in the past, he has dealt mainly with comedies, he did famously in the demanding "The Big Short"! He studied very well the book and he presented it to the audience in the best way. Furtermore, "The Big Short" had excellent directing, fast cutting and very remarkable interpretations. The four main actors, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt were convincing in their roles and they played a catalytic role in the perfect result of the film. Something told me that Christian Bale would retake the Golden Statuette for "Best Supporting Actor" and that time he really deserved it. Unfortunately, he was totally robbed by a weak performance. However, I think that Steve Carell should be a contender in this category too, having given one of the best performances of his career! The only drawback of the film albeit we could mention it as something negative, were numerous financial conditions are exposed throughout the duration of the film and coupled with fast switching scenes, maybe tired a large part of the viewers. However, for those who know about economics or at least some basic terms, the film will surely excite them with its gripping development!
"The Big Short" is certainly one of the most enjoyable films I've seen on the big screen in recent years! It kept my interest steady from the start to finish and the script was very enlightening! "The Big Short" won the best impressions from fans and critics alike and it was voted by "The Producers Guild of American Award" as the "Best Theatrical Motion Picture". Although I had not yet watched all the nominated films for "Best Picture", I was sure that "The Big Short" would be one of the three big favorites. It had sufficient revenues to the Worldwide Box Office and it has acquired a high average score of 7.8 by IMDb users. I highly recommend it!
