Welcome to Week 3 of these polls!
Results from Week 2: Our favourite this week was Petula Clark - Downtown which raced into a commanding lead with 8 votes from the first 8, although The Kinks mounted a comeback to finish just 1 vote behind. The honour of least favourite goes to Ned Miller - From A Jack To A King which had 6 votes, with the competition getting 4 votes each. This week was tough to narrow down to 10 for best but I think this selection is about right, whereas I noted 7 potentials for worst so I've put them all in the poll. Vote for as many or as few as you like and feel free to vote even if you didn’t attend. The winner (of the top poll) will get another play as the opening song next Sunday! |

I just decided to vote for my top favourite because otherwise I could vote for pretty much the whole list so, unsurprisingly: The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever
Val Doonican for the one I cared about the least |

Also voted for the trinity of Beach Boys, Beatles and Kinks
I wasn't sure about Cliff's inclusion on the worst list last week, but his song this week absolutely deserves it |

I voted for My Generation, Black Is Black, God Only Knows, Dedicated To One I Love, Waterloo Sunset and Excerpt From 'A Teenage Opera'.
For the worst, Cliff Richard, Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones. |

Mostly very good selection for the best songs there, the only one I wasn't really sold on was Keith West. I've voted for 3 classics (The Beach Boys, The Beatles and Nina Simone) and 2 great discoveries (Los Bravos and Traffic).
Harry Secombe for the worst, I didn't think there was anything truly awful this week but that was certainly one I would be happy to never hear again. Cliff was the 2nd worst. (Can I just write in Adam Faith again xx) |

Have gone with Strawberry Fields Forever, God Only Knows and Waterloo Sunset as favourites I already knew, and Excerpt from a Teenage Opera and Hole in My Shoe as really good discoveries.
Again, all of the worst ones were just boring rather than bad, but I think Cliff and Harry Secombe were the worst of them. |

Oh dear I love all those worst records candidates especially Andy & Val, bar Harry Secombe (not as good as Petula!) and Cliff - so Cliff it is!
Some obvious rock classics in the best list (and I love every record selected!) but Ive gone for the tracks usually overlooked (Nina, Mamas & Papas, Teenage Opera) and especially God Only Knows, one of the greatest records of all-time perfect in every way and a song so difficult to do justice to that very few have succeeded after giving it a go (and anyone that does a half-decent job has to have an amazing vocal range - see Andy Williams or Glen Campbell). Paul McCartney calls it the greatest song ever written, so Im sure he wont mind me not voting Strawberry Fields, the main competition here: yes I know, the Greatest Act of all-time and one of their key recordings, but hey God Only Knows why! |

Went for:
Beach Boys, Beatles, Mamas & Papas and Traffic Cliff & Harry My favourite song in the whole session is probably The Fool On The Hill, closely followed by I Am The Walrus. I can see why only Strawberry Fields made the cut though. |

'Blue Jay Way' was my fave from the MMT EP and quite possibly on par with or better than 'Strawberry Fields Forever' - but yeah seems fair for SFF to be the chosen Beatles track here.

The ties they need a breakin'!
Please could someone who hasn't yet voted help us choose between The Beatles and Beach Boys songs in the first poll? There's also a tie in the 1999 poll between ATB and Britney as things stand. |
