32 Gerard Argent

Average: 3.80
Actor: Michael Hogan
Status: Recurring

Finishing in last place is the main antagonist of season 2, Gerard Argent. Gerard is introduced in the first episode of season 2 as he attends his daughter Kate's funeral, revealing himself to be Allison's grandfather. Of course, as he's an Argent, he's also a werewolf hunter, shown from the off to be way more aggressive than his son Chris in that field, cutting a homeless werewolf in half at the waist. Gerard later becomes the master of Jackson, when in kanima form, and used him to his advantage against Scott. It's revealed that Gerard is actually terminally ill and wants the bite of a werewolf in order to survive, going against his own code. Derek bites him but his body rejects the change, due to the mountain ash in his cancer pills, and instead coughs up black liquid. Gerard is seen occasionally in season 3, giving information to Chris, Scott and Allison, and returns once again in season 5, but of course, he had not changed his ways! I found him quite an interesting villain but I can't moan at him finishing in last place here.

I found Gerard to be a decent villain with absolutely no likeable traits at all (hence why he was given the "Does this look unsure to you?" pic), and served effectively as the Big Bad in a season with tons of villain edits. However, he was just there in 5B for helping Chris and only appeared in 3A to give Deucalion's background, which most of the fandom appreciated at the time but I found unnecessary as Deuc was more of a red herring villain subbing for Jennifer.

Fun Facts:
Gerard is also responsible for the most gruesome death in Teen Wolf history, where he takes his sword and slashes a werewolf in half. Yes, you can see the top half hanging and some guts on the ground. EECH. Even worse than when Braeden got her throat slashed. His most famous quote "Mountain ash!!!" also served as a meme within the fandom for the duration of Season 2's hiatus.

Oh yes, should probably add that to the subtitle!

Gerard was certainly interesting, I loved to hate him throughout season 2. Not sure he was really necessary going forward (I think the same of Kate's return also, just let the villains stay in their respective seasons).

Slashing that werewolf in half still makes me feel a bit sick mellow.gif incredibly gruesome and set the tone of his character early on!

31.) Ken Yukimura
Average: 4.63
Actor: Tom T. Choi
Status: Recurring

30.) Noshiko Yukimura
Average: 5.38
Actor: Tamlyn Tomita (Arden Cho plays Young Noshiko in 3x21, The Fox & The Wolf)
Status: Recurring (3B-5B), Guest (6A)

The lowest of the parents in the rate are the Yukimura parentals, and while they do an amazing job representing Asian culture in television today (that's, y'know, NOT Hawaii Five-0), lack of screen time and proximity with the other main cast other than Kira made it harder for the fandom to really stick with them than the Core Three. Much of their presence on the show has been together (with a majority of that time with Kira) so that's the reason they're presented together in this part of the rate.

As everyone in the fandom knows, the Yukimuras are a typical Asian-American family with tons of rich heritage (see: Ken taking Noshiko's name due to them getting married in Japan), close-knit bonds, and in Noshiko's case, recognition as a marginalized community during World War II. The only thing that's not typical is their inter-dimensional relationship, with Ken being human and Noshiko being Kitsune. Now let's talk about them separately:

Ken: Ken first appeared at the start of 3B as the history teacher filling the spot of the previous teacher who was killed by the Darach, transferring from his job at Columbia University. And we all know from experience that a teaching position in Beacon Hills is just as cursed as the Defense Against The Dark Arts professor slot in Harry Potter. So... not much helping his case. He was vital in igniting the Scira flame when he invited Scott to dinner, mainly out of concern for Kira to make friends (much to Kira's chagrin and Noshiko's... indifference?). And after that, much of his presence was dominated by either helping the pack figure out who Void was or aiding Kira in her Kitsune training. So... yeah, not much to go from.

I will give him credit for lying to the police about Kira's sword and the dead body.

Noshiko: The matriarch of the Yukimura family comes in a bit higher than her husband, albeit 0.75 points higher. Noshiko is more stern than her husband and certainly more knowledgeable in terms of the supernatural (y'know, given she is one), but rest assured, when anyone she loves is in danger, Mama Bear (or should I say Mama Fox? basil.gif) comes out. Unlike Ken, who normally took a more passive role in helping the pack with uncovering the big bad of the respective seasons and their motives, Noshiko was more active in her aid, from dealing with the Oni in 3B to helping Scott free Kira from the Skinwalkers in 5B. Her most notable (at least in my opinion) feature was her story on the origins of the Nogitsune, an evil spirit that resided in her first love Rhys, an Army guard watching over the Japanese internment came she and fellow alpha friend Satomi resided in during World War II. He was burned alive by a Molotov cocktail ignition gone wrong and she ended up summoning a dark spirit that engulfed him, only to expel the spirit with her sword. However, since her experience with regaining the Oni from Void Stiles' control, she took a backseat and focused mainly on controlling Kira's kitsune power.

Recently she appeared in an episode of 6A, giving Kira's sword to Liam so that he can free Theo, in hopes that his return would dispel the Ghost Riders. Will she return in 6B? With Kira's sword in several fragments and Theo now treading towards an anti-hero arc, there may be some possibility that she will come to assess how the chimera has progressed. What does she know about the Skinwalkers? Is his sister one of them? And did she know of the Ghost Riders' presence before 6A? Surely these questions/plotholes can trigger some plausibility if she does return.

(there is a theory that I will get into but I'll wait until Peter is announced)

Where will Kira land? Find out later in the rate!

I rather like both Yukimura parents but you're right, their presence is less prominent than the likes of Sheriff, Melissa and Chris if we compare the parents so it's hard to get fully invested in them. Not really surprised to see them this low!

28 Ethan & Aiden

Average: 3.80
Actor: Charlie & Max Carver
Status: Recurring

Ethan & Aiden are the only tie in these results that cannot be broken, because they actually got the same scores from everyone! This includes a high of 10 from Yu and a low of 2 from myself.

The twins are introduced at the very end of season 2, shown only as silhouettes, alongside the rest of the alpha pack as they close in on Erica and Boyd to capture them. We meet them properly in the first scene of season 3 as they're hunting down Isaac, but fail in their mission to capture him thanks to Braeden. They're shown to be able to merge their form and make a larger werewolf, taught to them by Deucalion. They enroll at Beacon Hills High and both pursue romance - Ethan with Danny and Aiden with Lydia - initially to gain information about Scott although Ethan's feelings for Danny are notably more than that and it softens him. In the finale, the Darach (aka Jennifer Blake) broke the neck of their merged form and they are left barely alive, but Deaton saves their lives.

Come season 3B, they've lost their alpha status (and ability to merge) and are now omegas, hoping to join Scott's pack. Isaac and Stiles are particularly against this as they don't trust them, and Scott refuses. Come the season finale, they assist Derek and Chris in fighting the Oni, only for Aiden to be fatally stabbed and die. Ethan then explains that he's leaving Beacon Hills and Danny breaks up with him. Despite this, Aiden actually makes a brief return in the season 5 opener, although it's simply a hallucination in Lydia's mind.

27 Natalie Martin

Average: 5.63
Actor: Susan Walters
Status: Guest (1-2), Recurring (3-6)

Another parent drops out now, and it's Lydia's mum Natalie. We don't see much of her in seasons 1 and 2, particularly compared to the likes of Melissa, Chris and the Sheriff in terms of the other parents, but she starts to appear more frequently when she got bumped up to a recurring character in season 3, and is still appearing in the show currently.

Natalie is divorced from her husband and Lydia's dad, and we see that tensions are still running high between them during the parent teacher conference in season 1, as Natalie accuses him of making Lydia choose who she'd rather live with. She worries for Lydia after her slightly erratic behaviour (following on from Peter Hale's attack on her), and goes to see Ms. Morrell, the guidance counseller at Beacon Hills High.

We see more of Natalie from season 3B onwards as she takes on the job of biology teacher at the school, after Adrian Harris was sacrificed by the Darach. She gives Lydia permission in season 4 to use the family's lakehouse. She eventually asks Lydia why she spends so much time there, after she had been trying to figure out the password to the deadpool lists, and assists Lydia in explaining about Meredith, as well as her grandmother who was also a banshee. After Lydia is rendered catatonic in season 5, she allows her to be taken to Eichen House, in the belief that she was safe, despite Stiles protesting otherwise.

In fact, Since 3B, Natalie has taken on most of the jobs in Beacon Hills: a guidance counselor in place of Marin Morell (played by Bianca Lawson) and later what I believe is the principal?

27 Victoria Argent

Average: 5.70
Actor: Eaddy Mays
Status: Recurring (1-2), Guest (3)

One mum after another now! Allison's mum Victoria appears in seasons 1 and 2 as the matriarch of the Argent family, being in charge of all the decisions the family make as werewolf hunters. She is loyal and loving towards her family but is cold-hearted and vindictive otherwise, showing little mercy when it comes to werewolves. This was even shown towards the principal of Beacon Hills at the start of season 2 where she electrocutes him to ensure he resigns, so Gerard can take his place and keep a close eye on the supernaturals of Beacon Hills. Naturally she disapproves of Scott and his werewolf abilities once she finds out what he really is, and is angry when she finds out that he and Allison are still seeing each other.

This is what ultimately leads to her death, as she captures him while he's in the middle of locating the kanima at a rave. She tried to murder him by triggering his asthma with wolfsbane, but fails when Derek comes to Scott's rescue and bites her in the process. To keep in line with the Argents' code, this meant she must commit suicide, writing a goodbye letter to Allison. She asked Chris to help her die, and she dies in his arms.

26 Deucalion

Average: 5.88
Actor: Gideon Emery
Status: Recurring

Deucalion is an alpha werewolf who first appeared in season 3A as the head of the alpha pack. Throughout season 3 he is blind as a result of an encounter with Gerard Argent (backstory) who tried to kill him, having killed all of his betas, but is able to see with his wolf vision still. We first meet Deucalion in the closing moments of season 2 as he and the rest of the alpha pack capture Erica and Boyd. He hunts down Braeden and slashes her throat at the end of the season premiere after she saved Isaac from the twins.

Ultimately, it's revealed that his plan is to either push Scott towards being the true alpha and recruit him, or have him kill someone so he cannot become a true alpha and is therefore not a threat. Scott does join his pack, regrettably, to help track down the Darach, in return for Deucalion helping to find his mum who had been kidnapped. In the season 3A finale, he tries to get Scott to kill Jennifer, but Scott instead blinds Deucalion's wolf vision too, and he temporarily loses his wolf powers at the full moon, leaving Jennifer (the Darach) able to defeat him, but Derek tricks her into healing his eyesight and ultimately he mortally wounds her, saving Scott from becoming a killer. Scott and Derek decide to let him go on the condition that he stays out of trouble.

We see Deucalion again in season 5, having been tracked down and captured by Theo and his chimera pack. He says he is now blind again and Jennifer's healing power was only temporary. Theo wants Deucalion to show him how to steal the power of the Beast of Gévaudan, and Deucalion wants Scott's eyes on the tips of his claws in return. After Theo betrays Deucalion, it's revealed that Deucalion and Scott were allies all along to double-cross Theo, having lied about being blind again, and breaks he breaks Theo's neck.

Over to Cody for the next result! biggrin.gif

Also of note, Gideon is one of two video game voice actors that were hired in Teen Wolf. Coincidentally, the other was present in the same season as Deuc at one point.

24.) Kira Yukimura
Average: 6.00
Actor: Arden Cho
Status: Recurring (3B), Main (4-5B)

*I highly suggest that you watch this video before reading this commentary. It's highly relevant and it explains a lot of the ranting that will come up later.*

-

And down goes our first main character for the rate. Poor Arden. Once again proof that Asian-American actors will normally get shafted in the society.

In all honesty, while Arden's untimely exit from the show appeared extremely controversial among the fandom, as the writers seemingly ignored Kira and wrote her off to journey with the Skinwalkers in an quest for control of her kitsune spirit and... I guess self-discovery, I will admit that when Kira's character was first announced, it seemed like she would be written as Allison's replacement as Scott's love interest (barring all knowledge of supernatural abilities). And she seemed to have fit that for the most part. Until... this happened.

No, this is not an Ellie Goulding music video, but this is how the writers thought she would reveal her powers to Scott and Stiles. And it was pretty damn epic. Like after 3A, I was wondering whether or not the writers would deliver another exciting season and this seemed like an amazing continuation from that (and the mass Stisaac interaction but MORE ON THAT LATER). They ended up making a big deal about Kira's abilities and Scira being equal parts inter-kinship and equal parts interracial at the same time, which no one really pays attention to in Beacon Hills but in the real world is 10x as progressive as we're gonna get.

Was she badass? Hell yeah. The beginning of Season 4 was FULL of Kira moments, from her entrance (that smize tho!) to her dancing with Malia (which caused a FRENZY in the Teen Wolf fandom when the episode first aired). She also brought out the funny at times (see: her trying to act all Asian-persuasion and then tripping on the stairs) and still kicked ass the moment after. Her joining the lacrosse team was also SUPER important.

And then... radio silence. It was like the Glory era only ten times worse. Her last season had her arc focus mainly on her kitsune spirit losing control and almost getting imprisoned by the Skinwalkers, only for her to return in the season finale. There wasn't much interaction with most of the cast rather than some comic relief and Scira moments (+ a Ramrynia entry playing in the background). For this to be a way for a character to go was extremely disappointing. I had been hoping that there would be a more interesting arc for her while Cody was serving Hans from Frozen teas everywhere but alas no.

Look, I don't fault Jeff. In an interview, he said he was planning a kitsune spin-off to Teen Wolf that highlighted more of the Yukimura family and Japanese supernatural folklore that would be more exciting and won't drone on as much as Naruto Shippuden. I'd fault the writers because it seemed like they gave up with her. And Asian-Americans don't necessarily get that much exposure unless it was something like Hawaii Five-O or Fresh Off The Boat which bothers me. And in fact, Arden did speak out on this mistreatment of her character, which is sad because she was really committed to the show and they essentially axed her for no reason.

As for why Kira is so low on this rate... the main reason would be that like her parents, which I explained before, it was hard to get attached to her the way us in the fandom got attached to Crystal/Allison. And while she got some cool moments and amazing arcs, there wasn't much to go on which is why people probably ranked her so low.

As for post-Teen Wolf careers, I highly recommend that you check out her YouTube channel, she does a ton of vlogs, covers & some original songs, so come and check out her talent heart.gif heart.gif

Onto another pre-Void Stiles character with Joseph!
