Children in Need have announced a charity cover of Oasis' "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" as their single for this year - featuring quite a varied set of names laugh.gif

Bryan Adams
Izzy Bizu
Cher
Clean Bandit
Mel C
Jamie Cullum
Ella Eyre
Paloma Faith
Rebecca Ferguson
Jess Glynne
Sheku Kanneh-Mason
Lenny Kravitz
KSI
Lauv
Ava Max
Kylie Minogue
James Morrison
Gregory Porter
Nile Rodgers
Jack Savoretti
Jay Sean
Anoushka Shankar
Robbie Williams
Yola

Could it debut at #1 next week following the Live Lounge Allstars earlier this year?

Posted by: danvember 10th November 2020, 02:59 PM

Another number one to add to Jess Glynne’s collection!!

Yeah, I think it’ll easily go number one considering the Radio 1 song sold a load earlier this year.

Also, How did KSI end up on Radio 2?!

Bryan Adams and Mel C back together again!

Posted by: Better Man 10th November 2020, 03:35 PM

Hope for 20th Number 1 single for Robbie (incl. TT, of course) smile.gif

edit: my mistake - 19th.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 10th November 2020, 03:39 PM

What's the record for most charity singles at #1 in a year? laugh.gif

And with LadBaby likely next month, that'll make 4

Posted by: Bjork 10th November 2020, 03:45 PM

oh Mel C and Bryan Adams, hope they sing a bit together

good initiative, hope they get the #1, think the R1 one involved bigger names though...

good thing is the #1 on Spotify is not very strong at the moment, barely doing 400K a day, so theres hope

Posted by: Rob 10th November 2020, 03:47 PM

A cover of the Leona song? Amazing.

Posted by: Bjork 10th November 2020, 03:56 PM

I was actually thinking earlier that they could have included Leona as she already knows the lyrics biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bré 10th November 2020, 05:44 PM

What is KSI doing on this lol ~

I have a feeling this isn't going to attract enough attention to get the #1 (the back to back charity #1s earlier in the year were still early on in the pandemic, I think there'll be some level of 'fatigue' for this kind of thing by this point, and it just being another CIN single isn't as strong an emotional pull as the Tom Moore story / raising money for the NHS in a pandemic) but won't be too surprised if it does manage it anyway especially since the sales for #1 are pretty low at the moment.

That moment when Kylie gets a #1 in 2020 while Little Mix couldn't, if it does get there cheeseblock.png x

Posted by: ___∆___ 10th November 2020, 05:46 PM

Kylie & Cher cheeseblock.png Icons only!

Posted by: Klumpkin 10th November 2020, 05:49 PM

I'm interested to see what Clean Bandit and KSI do on this track laugh.gif also good to see Rebecca Ferguson's name on this track, such a unique voice which I haven't heard for a while!

I have a feeling this will reach #1. It's a well loved song and charity singles usually have more of a market towards Christmas time. Plus everyone loves a bit of Children In Need. Ariana's positions will be on it's fourth week so not necessarily at it's strongest! I'd imagine it'd only take 50-60k to reach #1.

Posted by: oof 10th November 2020, 06:18 PM

Maybe it'll be like Times Like These where everything's going fine and then KSI shows up halfway through for a rap solo. ph34r.gif

Posted by: Bjork 10th November 2020, 06:21 PM

is Clean Bandit on it? I thought it was only the cello (Grace)

Posted by: Sour Candy 10th November 2020, 08:07 PM

This is out on Friday? Billie Eilish is probably the biggest competitor, alongside with Positions... And will Mood be on SCR again?

Posted by: Bré 10th November 2020, 08:09 PM

I don't think the remix of 'Mood' looks like it's done well enough to get the song back to SCR but not entirely sure.

I forgot about Billie's single coming out this week, but she can hardly be assumed to necessarily be a #1 contender, depends on the song (it'll need to be something a little more widely appealing than 'my future' which I did like a lot but was never going to be a big hit).

Taking that as a criteria there's probably session singers somewhere with 20 Number ones to their credit biggrin.gif

If Bryan Adams and Mel C don't have a part where they do a 'When You're Gone' style harmony together then the producers have definitely missed a trick!

Posted by: shadow2009 11th November 2020, 09:16 AM

I know charity songs have been around for decades but they really need to be kept in the past. It's so...tacky and tasteless to have a dozen rich celebrities on a track trying to get the GP to buy their song in the middle of a pandemic where hundreds of thousands of people are unemployed. These celebrities could donate 0.5% of their earnings together if they cared that much and it would raise more money for the charity than the GP buying it from iTunes ever will but good PR is good PR I guess...

Posted by: Steve201 11th November 2020, 09:30 AM

I would imagine during Fridays CIN itll be huge on iTunes but not 100% sure itll get number one.

Kylie #1 album tomorrow with the biggest opening sales of the year

Part of a #1 single next week (Let’s hope it’s not another battle with LM for it though)

The celebrities probably do donate privately too.

I know I sound like a major killjoy but it doesn't 'raise awareneness'. It's one of the biggest, most reputable charities in the UK and gets huge coverage every single November across the nation from the TV show to Pudsey bears everywhere to local fundraisers to media attention and also the charity single. It's not like it's raising awareness for some unknown disease or condition that could benefit from more exposure and public awareness like ALS.

I just find it so...icky that these musicians (and everyone involved) take a few minutes to record some lines for a single then throw it out and guilt trip the GP to purchase it with their money in the middle of a pandemic and mass unemployment, when a single musician could probably donate more than the entire GP could with their combined 99p iTunes purchases. laugh.gif

To be honest in the end its not going to raise much money for the charity, when the track enters the chart at #1, a week later drops like a bomb. It might stay a second week in the 40, it really depends on the outcome of the single.

Purchasing music is different than it used to be, you need to put it out on other platforms

Posted by: gooddelta 13th November 2020, 09:37 AM

It's a pleasant enough, but ultimately predictably formulaic, retread of a song that has been covered way too many times (is it the only post-90s Oasis single that people actually know well enough to cover? I guess The Importance of Being Idle wouldn't really work though!).

I feel like ever since Perfect Day they've tried time and time again to capture the magic that had, and it hasn't happened. That sounded fresh and passionate and flowed really well, whereas this sounds thrown together and like a cut and paste job, which I know these singles all are, but still...a bit more creative direction (like, how could you have Bryan Adams and Mel C on the track and not give them a line together?) could probably make it sound more cohesive.

Posted by: Hayzayy 13th November 2020, 09:45 AM

it is on different platforms? i have been streaming it on Spotify this morning.

it entices casual public to listen, watch the show and creates entertainment on the night which inevitably gets more donations coming in.

who knows what popstars give to charity. they are patrons of their own charities etc and this is a little bit extra for Children In Need. Some give lots of money, some time, some their brand power.

no doubt it raises their own profile as well but that is like everything. individuals, companies, celebrities etc all do it.

The last 2 Children In Need songs didn't chart at all, so it will be interesting to see how this one does. I guess that all they need is 1000 fans of each artist to download the song, and they'll get the first top 10 for a CIN song since 2015!

I think this will do really well like the Radio 1 one did earlier on this year - it will just resonate with viewers on the back of an awful year plus I’m sure R2 will push it hard all week.

There have been 33 CIN singles, 16 of which have gone Top 10 (The Spice Girls we’re robbed with their #11 peak drama.gif)

^One of the producers of the song is Mark Taylor who is Cher's main producer. I would have liked her to sing more as well. Rebecca Ferguson did sing quite a bit for someone who's not that well known.

People mentioning Rebecca Ferguson singing half of this... I'm sure I'm hearing James Morriston as much as her (they both feel very dominant) 🙈 They both have quite unique voices though, so I don't blame them!

But don’t like this cover at all.

Does anyone have any idea how high the other CIN songs sold?

Posted by: Steve201 19th November 2020, 02:00 PM

I don't have the official figures myself but some of them were huge and others flopped big time. The last number one was the Avicii cover in 2017 I think but even that wasn't a HUGE seller after it reached the top as it was mainly through downloads.
