Today marks the first time that the pay details of BBC stars earning more than £150,000 have been made public, as required under the new Royal Charter. 96 BBC stars fit under this remit, less than the 109 the previous year. The figures only refer to the amount of licence fee money each person receives and does not include earnings from other broadcasters or commercial activities.

Laura Kuenssberg (political editor) earns £200,000-£250,000, Eddie Mair earns £300,000-£350,000. Dan Walker earns £200,000-£250,000. The highest paid BAME stars are Mishal Husain (£200,000-£250,000), George Alagiah, Jason Mohammed and Trevor Nelson (all £250,000-£300,000).

Others include Clare Balding (£150,000-£200,000), Gillian Taylforth (£150,000-£200,000), Nick Knowles (£300,000-£350,000) and Mel Giedroyc (£150,000-£200,000).

Matt LeBlanc doesn't feature in the list and so there are suggestions that he is paid by BBC Worldwide rather than the licence fee.

John McEnroe earns £199,000 in what two weeks when Wimbledon is on.

Astonishing not surprising the amount, Chris Evans and Gary Lineker get paid.

What about David Dimberby?

Chris Evans! Bloody hell. I'm still to come across anyone who'd call themselves a Chris Evans fan. What does he do, just radio now or is that for Top Gear still?

Graham and Gary Lineker, that seems reasonable enough for their level of fame and the amount of stuff they do, that would cover Graham for his TV show, the radio and Eurovision, and Lineker for a huge amount of sports coverage.

Actually, Graham gets paid an awful lot more, as these figures do not include

a) amounts paid by the BBC to independent production companies (like So Productions, the production company that actually produces Norton's chat-show - I believe his figures are just for radio/Eurovision), and
b) amounts paid to the stars by BBC's commercial wing, BBC Worldwide (it is believed that Top Gear presenters are paid through this, hence why Matt LeBlanc, who is presumably earning a pretty packet from this, is notably absent, and Doctor Who is due to be absent from next year's announcement).

So these announcements, whilst interesting, are only a fraction of what BBC stars actually receive from the BBC. Now I'd love to see journalists do their research and make an earnings table that include these 2 as well, so we can get a true sense of what BBC stars are actually getting paid.

well, as customers of the BBC finding out where our money goes on big ticket stars, perhaps other companies, such as SKY, who charge for content would be happy to supply a list of how much they pay and who so we can compare value for money. I speak as someone who's family forks out over a grand a year to SKY (against my wishes) which is 5 times the Licence fee, I mean in theory all channels with adverts on shouldnt need payments to subsidise them and the costs should totally just cover buying sports and movies and infrastructure....
