has to be the track with Ida W
Loving this retro artwork. Can’t wait to hear what’s next, One Kiss still bangs.
Really hope we get this next Friday. So excited for new Calvin material.
I need this
I finally scanned the barcode and it says 'Calvin Harris'.
It shouldn't give us any clue, but when the "One Kiss" barcode was scanned, it said 'Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa, One Kiss' before it was changed to 'Calvin Harris Calvin Harris' after the news broke out. If the latter is taken into consideration, there were two times were his name was mentioned, implying two artists, but this time is only one, so it makes me think it's going to be a solo track. However, there's also some information that he also did the vocals for a Benny Blanco song, so I'm wondering if he actually recorded two songs, which would be huge in my opinion.
Personally, the trademark implies that it's only him because Benny Blanco is under Interscope and there should be any mention about that too.
Omg you should be a detective tbh
I'm hoping for the Normani single that was being teased, but I do love a bit of Ina.
Ellie Goulding teased a collaboration yesterday
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmba97xgdp9
It's with Sam Smith, called promises, and releasing Friday!
boooooooo come on calvis you don't need this
very very very very disappointed at this collaboration
Ughhhhh
Calvin Harris and Sam Smith? Well there's a collaboration I could never have seen coming!
a collaboration from hell
worst idea of a collaboration in the history of music :/
I am here for this. Sam's vocals work brilliantly on dance tracks (see Disclosure x 2, Naughty Boy, plus any of his tracks' dance remixes) - fingers crossed it's a goodun'!
What’s with all the hatred already? We all know very well Sam sounds fantastic on dance tracks with the Disclosure collabs.
I didn't have this pegged as a potential collaboration for some reason but it makes sense! Looks like Calvin is back working with the big names in British popular music. Sam sounds great on a variety of different dance tracks whether it be the likes of "Latch" or "La La La", or remixes of singles such as the Laibert remix of "Too Good At Goodbyes" or the Tiësto remix of "Lay Me Down". I've only really found "Omen" to be a let down in these terms.
YES! Yes yes yes yes! The most unexpected collaboration.. but hopefully the most amazing :love
Given Sams collabs with Disclosure have been great I’m thinking this will be good! Looking forward to Friday now!
Calvin & Sam together! Hope this can knock Drake off #1
Well... ugh.
I'll keep an open mind.
Provided this is a good 'un, I'd say this'll be another comfortable #1 for the both of them. Quite excited, as much as Sam's solo stuff doesn't appeal to me I DID enjoy 'Latch' and to an extent 'La La La'.
Ughhhhhhhhhh
WHY
this not something the world needs right now
initially I cringed before realising the one thing he can do well is dance features! Will be interested to see what sound Calvin puts out there as he's varied it up quite a bit recently! I'm ready for a Nuh Ready Nuh Ready Part II *.*
i'm so ready for this, i have faith in Calvin to make Sam Smith sound good too.
If this is anything like Latch or La La La (as much as I find the latter annoying now), I am so here to hear!
It feels like Calvin is doing Sam a favour
GIVE IT TO ME NOW!
If it’s anything like latch I’ll be happy, I think this will be a hit
I'm intrigued.
I like Sam's dance collaborations, but I'm not so into his solo tracks, aside "Nirvana". I hope Adam doesn't disappoint in the production, which I assume it will follow the pattern of 128 bpm like "One Kiss" and maybe https://twitter.com/CalvinHarris/status/1026989784126742529 was a hint? Either way, I'm looking forward to this.
To be fair to both Sam & Calvin:
- Rollin was only ever intended to be a promo single
- Faking It was released way after the albums release, as were all of Sams other singles
TGAG was a #1 with big thanks to the hype of a Sam Smith comeback plus post-album singles in general don’t perform as well anymore due to the power & accessibility that streaming has
Yeah, I think Sam should've released another single before the album was released.
wasn't Pray released also before the album and added to R2?
Pray was also re-released in mid-2018 as a new version with Logic and did nothing despite the huge airplay
I personally think no one cares about him anymore, if this is successful is gonna be cos of calvin not cos of sam
also it reads very unnatural, like something orchestrated by the label
I wonder if this will get added straight to A List on Radio 1 this week?
If you're working with Sam Smith pls give Emeli Sande a boost at some point Calvin!
Have they ever had more than 1 insta-add to the A list? I can see either this or The 1975 going straight to A.
A preview of the track was teased by MJRRadio on their Instagram stories and you could listen to it https://calvin-af-crone.tumblr.com/post/177047433100/mjrradio-ig-story-16-august-2018-a-promises.
EW. It better speed up otherwise no.
sounds really good, can't wait.
The sound quality isn't great in that clip, so it's hard to tell what it'll be like, but I'm very intruiged!
It’s not a banger, but it’s so fresh! I like it! Nice bop!
I can't see this going #1 but it's a hit for sure.
It features Jessie Reyez too
This could very much become my top Calvin track!
Not as instant as "One Kiss" was on first listen, but it's still solid.
Very drab.
Meh
I'm not impressed and I feel Calvin is the one that lets it down here. Straight to A List on Radio 1 though!
it's basically a more relaxed version of One Kiss but it's still great, a proper late summer bop.
I actually really like this, and it’s definitely the most listenable Sam Smith has been since Latch.
Not too sure I'm fussed on first listen, though I felt that with "One Kiss" too and that grew - though it never grew to the level some seemed to be obsessed with it. I don't think it's massively special. Think I'll likely feel the same about this one longterm.
I don’t get the child in the background or the child laughing.
Considering the names it’s a bit meh, not as bad as Jess’ new song but nowhere near as good as One Kiss
His worst song to date
A bit slow for me, but hopefully it will grow on me like One Kiss did.
Another fairly dull track. Why on earth did he change his style? I haven’t liked anything since my way.
I really like this tbh, it's taken a few listens but I'm into it, it's no all-time Calvin fave but it's nice and groovy, idk if I can see it being that big tho
I've listened to it a few more times, and it's grown on me so much. I think I prefer it to One Kiss, Sam's vocals are brilliant.
Surprisingly I'm really enjoying this - the chorus is enough of an earworm for it to be a big hit, but this more stripped back dance sound is so refreshingly different to other stuff in the charts right now.
Listening to this earlier and I hummed the chorus to One Kiss over this chorus and it fit perfectly :') Calvin on auto-drive already?
once Calvin finds a style he seems to stick with it for a few singles; see last year as well.
it's a bit similar to One Kiss but still unique enough especially in the current chart landscape.
It's a grower but at first I feel a bit underwhelming... The song has a nice vibe though.
Edit: loop it for a few times. My favourite bit is the bridge, his high-pitch is just about right. Still feel a bit underwhelming though, too relaxing.
This is fine, I like Jessie's vocals in the track.
It's pretty much at exactly the same tempo as One Kiss (although admittedly, Dua's vocals sound more 'dancey' than Sam's). Literally they are like basically the same song with the same tempo beat, the piano just makes it sounds slower.
Really not a fan of this. So dull. I was expecting to like it at least a little, despite Sam being on it.. but nope.
Flush. Next please Calvin.
I don't usually like Sam Smith's vocal style, but it sounds like a good tune, the chirpy background synths and echoey backing vocals make it sound quite early-00s chilled house to me, a bit like DB Boulevard or Moony.
Oh I was really excited for the drop in this and there just...wasnt one
It might grow on me anyway, Sam is sounding great, but eh first listen :/
Omg this really keeps sounding better and better the more times I listen
Ok this does get better with each listen, but it’s still not wowing me it’s just ok.
This is quite nice! I was singing 'there may be trouble ahead' to the chorus just then though
His songs just don't EXCITE me in any way anymore It's all very calculated. I did appreciate Nuh Ready but the problem with that was the vocals were bordering on intolerable.
YAY I like Sam Smith again!
This is really growing on me as well!
The "tonight" parts in the chorus just make it.
I LOVE this, feels so effortless and chill! Why oh why doesn’t Sam Smith make a dance album
I'm really loving this now after being so opposed to Sam featuring on it. His vocals really suit laidback dance tracks like this.
Music video is premiering on Wednesday so if it's not #1 this week, I think it's guaranteed next week.
The music video comes out tomorrow at 8am. BST.
...it did grow on me.
It's so lowkey though I almost feel it should be a Sam single rather than a feature.
I still think an instrumental break chorus hook would make it even better, but it does sound...fresh, the way it is too. The last minute or so really sells it for me tbh.
Extended Mix coming soon, probably this Friday
Almost 8 & a half minutes *.*
For me it still sounds like a watered copy of one kiss
Music Video:
And you can add me to the list of people whom this is growing on rapidly! Very much the opposite of One Kiss which tired fast, I can see myself enjoying this for the forseeable future.
Also I didn't notice this before but is that a VERY subtle Take That sample in the middle 8? "cos I NEEEEEEEED"
I really like this, I stanned 'One Kiss' for a while but it got old quickly whereas this I can see holding up much better to repeated listens - I really wish Sam would go down this route for his solo material, I enjoy his more restrained voice quite a bit over these kind of chilled dance instrumentals (love all of his Disclosure collabs as well).
you know I did kinda get Disclosure vibes the first time I heard this
Is there anyone who hasn't U-turned on this?
I loved it initially and I still do. Proper tune, so glad to see it give Sir Calvin another UK #1.
Yeah I've definitely done a complete U-turn on this like many others. It's a great track!
Well I got bored of this pretty quickly!
Lol same
Up to #4 in Australia, officially his 16th Top 10 hit
After his experimental stage where he faltered a bit, Calvin is really bringing it this era. 'One Kiss' and 'Promises' are probably two of his best songs ever. The man is a hit machine.
First official remix from Sonny Fodera is out tomorrow!
I need a new single already...
I’m really loving this song now. Prefer it to "One Kiss".
The whole thing is fantastic and it has a catchy beat. Yet another big hit for Calvin.
David Guetta Remix is coming this week!
Hmmmm I’m not sure if I like this?
horrible mix
Not the best mix this, what has David Guetta done to it?
Here’s hoping there’ll be some better remixes on Friday: https://twitter.com/calvinharris/status/1051911688197271553?s=21
This David Guetta remix is great lmao what are y’all on
I suppose it's great when you compare it to his own stuff of late.
Full remix package coming tomorrow including the 2 we've had so far. Other remixes from MK, Illyus & Barrientos, Offaiah, Franky Rizardo, Mousse T, plus the extended mix from the vinyl release.
Do we need more remixes for this, please release another song, Calvin.
He literally just released 2 new songs a few days ago!
I want proper new Calvin, those 2 songs with Normani are mediocre to say the least, I'll pretend they never happened
This is now a year old and I’m honestly still not bored of it... I think I like it equally as much as One Kiss, such a strong track
No way is this already a year old?! Omg, that's actually quite scary great song though!
51 weeks in the Dance Chart Top 10 though
Deffo one of my fave songs of 2018 and I’m not getting tired of it yet! I do feel like this gets overshadowed by One Kiss a lot which is a shame as it’s such a good song.
