BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 10th July 2021, 01:25 PM

Ed Sheeran could make it three weeks at #1 on the singles chart. Big debuts await for Dave & Stormzy with Clash and The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber with Stay, plus new tracks from Billie Eilish with NDA, Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under and Post Malone’s Motley Crue. BTS also drop Permission To Dance alongside a physical release of Butter. With England’s final game on Sunday, expect a climb for any football-related songs this week

Will it be a fifth week for Olivia? Irish band Inhaler look to mount a challenge with their debut record It Won’t Always Be Like This, while Tom Odell could grab a fourth top five album with monsters. Other new releases include Snoh Aalegra, Vince Staples, Tkay Maidza, The Wallflowers and The Maine

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

I think Ed’s safe at #1 even if England win - Ed’s doing nearly 100k which means 3 Lions would effectively need to do close to 200k, requiring unprecedented streams.

Posted by: M477h3w 10th July 2021, 08:54 PM

I somehow hope 3 lions get #1 if England win tomorrow.

Posted by: jimwatts 11th July 2021, 01:28 PM

The most streaming points anything has had while on ACR in a week to date is 70,623 for Mariah around Christmas 2019. 3 Lions would need to beat that and do c.20k in downloads to get to #1 this week. In some ways, that would be an even bigger achievement than England winning laugh.gif

In fairness, England in the Euro finals is already unprecedented laugh.gif

If I were Ed Sheeran I'd take my song off streaming for a couple of days if it looked like I was going to block Three Lions from #1. It would be a good publicity stunt and would probably make him and the song more popular in the long run.

The whole ACR thing is good for speeding up the charts, but putting all songs more than 3 years old on it permanently is stupid and doesn't prevent the Christmas situation anyway, it was nice when random old songs would re-enter the charts for a bit in the download era.

Posted by: Dot Branning 11th July 2021, 05:46 PM

This new Dave track is just disappointing tbh. Not a fan on first couple of listens. Maybe a grower but we'll see.

Posted by: Bjork 11th July 2021, 05:46 PM

how come BTS are #5?
on iTunes they did 0.6 relative to Ed on day 1 and 0.3 on day 2, sure that's not even 3K
on Youtube they're new at #3 with average views, nothing crazy, 600K, thats not even 1K sales
and the song has done poorly on streams everywhere

This Dave track does nothing for me.

1 Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits

Dave & Stormzy are heading for the highest new entry on this week’s Official Singles Chart.

The British rappers’ first ever collaboration Clash, taken from Dave’s upcoming album We’re All Alone In This Together, goes in at Number 4 on today (July 11)’s Official Chart: First Look. Should Clash’s momentum continue, it will mark Dave’s eighth UK Top 10 single and Stormzy’s 12th.

On course for a third week at Number 1 is Ed Sheeran with Bad Habits, who is currently over 10,000 units ahead of the pack with the most streams and paid-for sales of the weekend. But should football come home for the first time in 55 years, then his lead could be all for naught.

Speaking of Ed, he co-wrote the new single from Korean boyband BTS called Permission To Dance, which after 48 hours of sales and streams enters the Official Chart: First Look at Number 5. The track could mark J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Suga and V’s fourth UK Top 10 hit following Dynamite, Life Goes On and Butter.

A third new release could also impact this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10; Australian rising star The Kid Laroi has teamed up with Canadian hitmaker Justin Bieber for Stay at Number 7, the lead track from the former’s upcoming debut album F*CK LOVE (OVER YOU).

Finally, just outside the First Look Top 20 at Number 21 is Billie Eilish with her new single NDA.

QUOTE
As football fans gear up for England’s EURO 2020 final against Italy tonight (July 11), football anthems old and new from Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds, Atomic Kitten and Neil Diamond are heading for chart success, as revealed on today's Official Chart: First Look.

1996 classic Three Lions leads the way, going in at Number 3 after the first two days of the sales week. The former Number 1 is the fourth most downloaded song of the week so far and the second-most streamed, clocking up 2.17 million plays so far.

The Official Chart: First Look airs Sundays on BBC Radio 1 between 6pm – 7pm, offering a first glance of the Top 20 ahead of Friday’s Official Singles Chart Top 100. The chart is based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Atomic Kitten’s reworking of their 2011 chart topper Whole Again titled Southgate You’re The One (Football’s Coming Home Again) could give them their first Top 40 single in 16 years. After debuting at Number 86 last week based on three days of sales, the song is at Number 10 today following promotion that included performances on Peter Crouch’s Year-Late Euros: Live and Loose Women.

An artist who has waited even longer for a Top 40 return is Neil Diamond. His legendary sing-a-long staple Sweet Caroline could mark his first Top 40 hit since Morning Has Broken topped out at Number 36 in November 1992. Peaking at Number 8 back in March 1971, Sweet Caroline is currently at Number 13 and may well claim a new best placement if football does well and truly come home.

Posted by: LiamSime 11th July 2021, 05:54 PM

I really want to see good 4 u increase this week so it can go back to 0 weeks of decline and avoid acr. Not tired of it yet 😂

Gone have get Olivia Rodrigo to acr before she leave number 2 spot

Posted by: Dot Branning 11th July 2021, 06:07 PM

Ironic that Three Lions is further behind on downloads than streaming when the downloads helped it to #1 last time. Still wondering if a "winners remix" or such like is in the pipeline for potential release after tonight. That would certainly help give them a download boost.

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 11th July 2021, 06:18 PM

Ahhhh I knew I shouldn’t of doubted myself.

BTS’s YouTube views would have been big, downloads were big with the Instrumental and original...

Plus iTunes dominates first look there’s massive streaming data missing.

I think they’ll struggle to stay top 10 this time around.

Posted by: Bré 11th July 2021, 06:31 PM

BTS had an instrumental version which made the top 10 on iTunes as well. And although they didn't manage to overtake Ed, they were still pretty far ahead of everything else excluding football songs at their peak (outselling Galantis more than 3 to 1, nearly 4 to 1 combining the instrumental version), it's just that Ed's lead was and still is huge. And they did at least make the top 40 on Spotify on their first day which is not nothing!

I expect they'll drop massively over the week but the #5 First Look position makes complete sense to me.

Posted by: Bjork 11th July 2021, 07:59 PM

doesn't make sense to me even if adding the Instrumental, which accounted for very little
and the YT views were not huge either
can't see remaining top 10 unless the Army buys from their website or something

You said it was #3 on YouTube, it's probably #2 on downloads this week, and there's only 1 day of streaming to drag it down a bit so #5 makes sense to me. It won't stay anywhere near that high but on a small amount of data, it's not too shocking.

I don't think it matters to her label at all - the song doesn't stop selling because it's on ACR and it's not like it can hit a new peak now (nor is it likely to return to #1), so what does it actually gain them? They've probably decided it's just not worth the effort!

Especially when it opens the floor for another album track charting when G4U’s streams drop enough. The album has done very well and as more of the general public hear different tracks it only keeps it afloat longer biggrin.gif

It's got a load of songs on it though, some of which are b-sides and therefore haven't been on streaming!

Hard to tell if a 7k lead will be enough for Inhaler - Queen were only 4.4k ahead on Monday last week and barely lost it in the end, but I assume Inhaler will be more frontloaded (although can't rule out it having another sales dump later in the week).

I reckon that's enough of a gap for Inhaler if they continue to push throughout the week!

Inhaler are currently out in front in the race for No.1 with their debut album, It Won’t Always Be Like This (Polydor), based on the Midweek sales flash.

The Irish band’s album has so far moved 12,345 copies (including 11,667 physical units) in its first week, according to the Official Charts Company.

Last week’s No.1, Sour (Geffen/Polydor), by Olivia Rodrigo is currently in second place with 5,133 sales (4,649 from streams).

Muse’s 20th anniversary edition of Origin Of Symmetry (East West/Taste) is currently at No.3 (4,297 sales), ahead of Tom Odell’s Monsters (Columbia) on 3,867 sales.

After narrowly missing out on No.1 last week, Queen’s Greatest Hits (EMI) is down to No.5 (2,629), ahead of Doja Cat’s Planet Her (Ministry Of Sound) at No.6 (1,608) and Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia (Warner Records) at No.7 (1,568).

Another 20th anniversary edition, Turin Brakes’ The Optimist (Two-Piers), is chasing a Top 10 finish (No.9, 1,461).

In the singles chart, Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits is still on top so far this week (38,336 sales). Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds has surged 4-2 (24,400), though the sales only go up to midnight on Sunday so England’s Euros 2020 defeat will not be reflected in that result.

The highest new entry in the Midweek sales flash is Clash by Dave feat. Stormzy (Dave Neighbourhood) at No.4 (17,803). Stay by Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber (Columbia) is new at No.6 (13,534), while BTS are pushing for the Top 10 with new single Permission To Dance (Bighit) on 11,787.

I doubt none of the football songs will be there on Friday.

Posted by: Slayer 12th July 2021, 05:11 PM

Do we know Little Mix's figures?

Posted by: JosephStyles 12th July 2021, 05:12 PM

Looking at some of the numbers:

Three Lions is on 24,400, which would've been enough for #11 last week.

Atomic Kitten are between the 13,534 of Laroi/Bieber and 11,787 of BTS. The first figure would've been enough for #25 last week, the latter figure enough for #31.

Sunday streaming won't have been accounted for either and both songs, as we know, have done very well on all platforms for Sunday, so we're looking at some respectable positions come Friday (and would be even if they sold 0 from their current totals!!)

In the album chart, Tom Odell's 3,867 figure would've got him to #8 last week so I hope he's on track for a respectable finish this week. I'm scared after Laura Mvula ended up at #21 cry.gif

atomic kitten has probably passed around 20k now following yesterdays streaming, they should comfortably finish top 20 tbh. they're also holding up decently well on apple music to still at #14 so it will get a couple of extra sales and i'm sure they will at least manage 50k streams tomorrow on spotify.

Posted by: Dot Branning 12th July 2021, 06:34 PM

Atomic Kitten coming for that Top 20 smash!

Shame it won’t be Top 10 but there’s always next year, provided Southgate is still in charge of course.

Posted by: gooddelta 12th July 2021, 06:56 PM

It will certainly be a great surprise to see Atomic Kitten getting another top 40 16 years later!

Nice to see S Club 7’s Essential higher than I’d have expected too. I picked it up for £5 in Asda - there are quite a few good album tracks missing that are more notable than some of the songs on here (Stand By You, Show Me Your Colours, I Really Miss You), and I’d also liked to have seen Let Me Sleep, the longer version of Two In A Million (the two versions on here are practically identical) and the Eiffel 65 remix of Reach.

The sequencing is a little odd too in places - Say Goodbye the fourth track!?

Also it’s a shame the album isn’t on streaming because a few of those b-sides that are included would have been nice additions to be able to stream.

How gutting that the Big Reunion song didn't chart one place higher at #20 rather than #21. Then Atomic Kitten would have been the only girl band ever to achieve a top 20 hit in 4 different decades!! Even if this one goes top 30/40 they will be the only girl band to feature on top 30/40 hits in 4 consecutive decades... out of all the girl bands Atomic Kitten is not the one I would have seen achieving this laugh.gif

It is frustrating to see TikTok raising awareness for all these old hits, but not when it completely distracts from the new stuff. Marina has had this with both Bubblegum Bitch and Hermit The Frog blowing up on TikTok, yet nothing for the actual singles this era.

Really hope Tom’s album manages to hold on to top 10, found the singles have all been top quality this time round.

Posted by: gooddelta 13th July 2021, 08:50 AM

For me it seems like hearing a song on TikTok and then buying/listening to it outside of that is like the experience of hearing a song on a film or TV show soundtrack.

You sometimes get invested in the song because you hear it over and over in a context that reminds you of the connected visual experience, but that’s often as far as it goes and most people don’t usually go seeking out other songs from the artists because they don’t have the same emotional connection.

Three Lions is only a couple of hundred behind what it sold last week at #4, while Atomic Kitten's figure would've been enough for #15 last week!

Laroi is gaining slightly on Galantis (#6) so a potential top 5 debut could be on the cards there when Atomic Kitten drop behind...!

Baddiel & Skinner will probably do a christmas remix of Three Lions entitled Three Reindeer and it will be about Santa bringing football home and will feature a guest rap from LadBaby

Seriously, please don't give them ideas!

Posted by: jimwatts 13th July 2021, 05:10 PM

3 Lions will be safe for at least #4 again, maybe even #3 depending how well Clash holds up (and how the Thursday streams are estimated)

Posted by: Bré 13th July 2021, 05:36 PM

Only ~600 units added for Inhaler today, I can still see Olivia overtaking them at this rate but it'll probably be close unless they do have a successful sales bump later in the week.

'Three Lions' possibly still coming to climb to #3 even after the loss cheeseblock.png

Posted by: LiamSime 13th July 2021, 05:49 PM

Looks like 3 lions is safe for top 5 this week then meaning Scott will need to play it, I look forward to hearing what he has to say when announcing it😂 it’s still holding up surprisingly well on Apple (still at #20) almost 48 hours after the match.

Posted by: jimwatts 13th July 2021, 06:03 PM

I'd expect Atomic Kitten and Neil Diamond to get played too, no reason why they shouldn't, especially if they can play a load of Christmas songs on 1st January laugh.gif

Posted by: dan::G 13th July 2021, 06:17 PM

well didn’t they announce Three Lions at number one in 2018 after England had been knocked out? no reason for them to skip the song this weekend.

Posted by: ___∆___ 13th July 2021, 06:21 PM

So pleased to see Atomic Kitten at #5 even though they will have dropped off rapidly now on sales and streams

Posted by: ___∆___ 13th July 2021, 06:35 PM

Do we think Inhaler have done enough to hold onto #1?

They added a new vinyl to their website earlier, and reduced the signed CD/Cassette bundles to £8.99 and the standard CD to £4.99 today.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 13th July 2021, 06:48 PM

Atomic kitten top 5 is great to see albeit shortlived, they are pretty much guaranteed top 15 now.

It's really a wonder that fans of moderately popular indie bands ever pre-order their albums any more since they seem to literally all end up being reduced in price after a couple of days.

(not that this isn't also the case for other genres but it seems especially prevalent in indie)

Posted by: chartjack2 13th July 2021, 07:06 PM

The million dollar question is where does everyone think Three Lions, Sweet Caroline and Southgate You’re the One would have charted had England won on Sunday?

I think it’s the case for most artists regardless of genre now - Tom Grennan, Dua Lipa, 5SOS, The Snuts, Declan McKenna, Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Easy Life, Rolling Stones etc have all dropped to half price in opening week across some format.

And even those not price cutting are encouraging multi buying from the fanbase with new bundles or intimate record store show with purchase, personalised copies etc during release week to boost sales.

I never do now, but always keep on the lookout for the chart reductions tongue.gif My last one was The 1975's Notes to get early access to tour tickets, but IIRC they only reduced their digital versions vs. KSI.

This! Or at a push Atomic Kitten ahead of Olivia at #3.

I think on the momentum streams would have continued to hold up pretty massive amounts over yesterday and today at least. Plus the potential for a cheap cash in victory version of 3 Lions to be rushed out and take big numbers on downloads. We will never known for certain though.

Posted by: Bré 13th July 2021, 08:35 PM

I think Ed would still have ultimately held #1 even if England had won but 'Three Lions' could have been comfortably #2. All hypothetical indeed though.

Posted by: Mangø 13th July 2021, 09:20 PM

How on earth have Atomic Kitten added 5-6k sales and 'Three Lions' 13k on the Monday after England were defeated?! Surely most people will have stopped streaming them after Sunday? (And that's with all that missing streaming data for Monday too... weird!)

Streaming data is a day behind so it's all of Sunday's streams being added

I think if I were a loyal fan that bought the vinyl at 20 pounds, I'd be pissed off...

I've read many times about mid-week sales on downloads or CDs
but not on albums and not like a 75% sale

The Official Charts Company Midweek Sales Flash is in, and Dave’s new track is homing in on a Top 5 finish.

The lead single from the rapper’s upcoming second album We’re All Alone In This Together, Clash features Stormzy and is on 28,651 sales for the week so far, with all but 761 download units coming from streaming alone. Clash has 3,927,433 streams for the week so far across audio and video, with Tuesday’s streaming data yet to be counted.

At No.1, Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits has 62,975 sales, with 3 Lions (39,263 sales) still at No.2 despite England’s loss to Italy in the final of Euro 2020. Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 U (36,390 sales) and The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber’s Stay (23,296 sales) complete the Top 5, nestling either side of Dave.

In the albums chart, Irish newcomers Inhaler are going strong in No.1 spot, with 15,069 sales for their debut album It Won’t Always Be Like This. Of that total, 14,134 sales are physical, with 540 from downloads and 395 from streams. Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour (9,113 sales) and Muse’s reissued Origin Of Symmetry (4,826 sales) are also in the Top 3, ahead of Tom Odell’s new album Monsters (4,820 sales) and Queen’s Greatest Hits (4,056 sales)

Well there's the sales bump Inhaler needed to be safe at #1! Feeling like they might be the next act to have a big drop from #1 though after a spell of a few #1s in a row that at least got a second week in the top 5.

Looks like it could be very close between 'Three Lions' and 'Clash' for #3.

Good that Atomic Kitten are still top 10,. fingers crossed it stays top 15 but them going top 20 is really good in itself, Inhaler sales really slowing down down, only about 400 sales since the last update, and Olivia closing the gap quickly, i really hope they can hold on.

His sales seem to be slowing down a little, so possibly just short.
He should still outdo the third week sales of I Don't Care and Castle On The Hill. Just noticed the latter did 100,947 in its second week, so Bad Habits outdid both of their second weeks as well.

Posted by: Bré 15th July 2021, 07:10 PM

It's not an apples to apples comparison as the way streaming sales are calculated has changed in the intervening years but the second week streaming sales for 'Bad Habits' were actually even higher than those for 'Shape Of You'.

Looks like it'll be right on the cusp of 100k again this week (probably just missing out?)

Also impressed by how well the football songs have been holding up throughout the week, even just a few weeks ago I certainly wasn't expecting Atomic Kitten and Neil Diamond in the top 40 in 2021 laugh.gif
