UMK list of artists has been released!

Cyan Kicks – Hurricane
BESS – Ram pam pam
The Rasmus – Jezebel
YOUNGHEARTED – Sun numero
Olivera – Thank God I’m an Atheist
Tommi Läntinen – Elämä kantaa mua
Isaac Scene – Kuuma jäbä

Songs out this evening, final on Feb 26th.

(The Rasmus, greatest band ever biggrin.gif)

Elize Ryd is apparently a writer on the Cyan Kicks song so consider that the one I'm really hyped for.

Great to see The Rasmus there! Tommi Läntinen is apparently a Finnish legend.

Certainly looks like a rocky selection, and who'd have expected otherwise from Finland?

Very interested to hear these!

And I misread the press release the one time I don't submit ESCXtra here, it's one song tonight, one on Friday and then one song every weekday next week.

The first song will be released this evening, at 23:00 CET on YouTube and all the streaming services. The next song will get its release on Friday and the rest of the entries will be out next week, one every weekday from Monday to Friday.

https://yle.fi/aihe/a/20-10001951 (in Finnish but has all the info about writers etc, looks like Haloo Helsinki is behind Tommi Läntinen's!)

Fair enough I guess. Hope they're in the order listed because I want to see if my Amaranthe-fuelled metalcore hopeful is going to be a good one fast.

The Nordics have definitely stepped up this year. Norway has one of the best catalogue of songs in MGP in years imo while Finland has chosen some of their best rock acts. Sweden has a lot to deliver this year, and hopefully both Iceland and Denmark have great songs too.

'Hurricane' is pretty good on first listen. And potentially amenable to non-rock fans, it's not that hard. Definitely feels like one of the lighter, cleaner songs on an Amaranthe album.

Their other stuff is a bit more standout (the singer's voice has a really nice quality to it, I'm going through all their stuff) but this'd still be a great rock entry for Finland.

Is this the same Rasmus who released in the shadows?

'Hurricane' is fantastic, I've seen a lot of people on Twitter comparing it to KEiiNO playing Måneskin, which I totally see.

Hurricane is very KEiiNO playing Maneskin via CHVRCHES to me - can see that doing very well with a goof tailwind!

I love Hurricane now, first NF song of the season I've started playing on repeat.

'Ram pam pam' is out now. Pretty good strong Finnish pop, I'd easily take that as a Finnish entry if they decide for a non-rock entry.

YLE are really putting a lot of effort into UMK lately and this is such a good strategy for releasing songs, I hope they can be onto a streak of success for once.

My ratings:

1. Ram pam pam (8/10)
2. Kuuma jäbä (8/10)
3. Thank God I'm an Atheist (7/10)
4. Hurricane (7/10)
5. Sun numero (6/10)
6. Jezebel (5/10)
7. Elämä kantaa mua (3/10)

Overall: 6.29/10
Top 5 overall: 7.2/10

Hurricane is not the best from Cyan Kicks but still pretty decent. Ram pam pam is a great pop song from BESS but don't think this will win.

Jezebel is not the one and could bring Finland non-qualification.

Other than that, the selection is quite robust and I will be happy if any of the top 5 here wins.
