Chart Commentary
Following the final of the Eurovision Song Contest last Saturday, a number of the songs performed make an impact on my chart this week. Most notably, Bulgarian representative Kristian Kostov enters at #1 with runner-up track Beautiful Mess. It's Kristian's first chart hit, and only the fourth Eurovision song to make #1, following Loreen's Euphoria in 2012, Eduard Romanyuta's I Want Your Love in 2014, and Frans' If I Were Sorry in 2016. We can add two further songs if we expand to national finals too - Ulrik Munther's Tell the World I'm Here topped the chart in 2013, and FO&O's Gotta Thing About You spent 2 weeks at #1 earlier this year, both from Sweden's Melodifestivalen. Other Eurovision impacts are seen for older chart hits from Manel Navarro and Isaiah. Despite a ropey performance and a last place finish, Spain's Manel (pictured above with Kristian) is this week's highest climber, beginning a third stint in the top 10 since its #2 peak in January. Do It for Your Lover remains my favourite song overall from this year's contest, so last place was a shame even if the performance wasn't up to scratch! Isaiah re-enters at #12, just two places shy of his #10 peak. Further down, we see new entries for Blanche, Lucie Jones and Alma with their Eurovision tracks - the first charting song for all three artists. On Saturday night, I went to see The Vamps (and had to watch Eurovision on catch-up!). They see a small impact on the singles chart with new single Hands, with Mike Perry and Sabrina Carpenter, entering at #25 less than 24 hours after its studio version was made available. Expect a big climb for that next week! Sabrina was one of three support acts at the concert (alongside The Tide and New Hope Club), and she enters at #7 with her recent solo single Thumbs, automatically becoming her highest charting hit after previous single On Purpose charted at #8. Sabrina Carpenter 2016 08 On Purpose | 1 | 28-X-21-8-13-30-33-X (6 non-consecutive weeks) 2017 07 Thumbs | 2 | 7-... (1+ weeks) 2017 25 Hands (Mike Perry, The Vamps & Sabrina Carpenter) | FEAT | 25-... (1+ weeks) I also went to see Bebe Rexha on Thursday night, and alongside her EP climbing back into the album chart top 5 at #4, her new single with Lil Wayne debuts at #2. This is Bebe's highest charting single to date, outdoing the #3 peak of Hey Mama, and her lead artist peak of #6 achieved by both F.F.F. and No Broken Hearts. Lil Wayne also achieves his highest position so far, and in fact, his first top 10 hit! His collaboration with DJ Khaled and others reached #11 a few weeks ago but has since failed to crack the top 10. Bebe Rexha 2014 25 Take Me Home (Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha) | FEAT | 25-38-X (2 weeks) 2015 03 Hey Mama (David Guetta feat. Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha & Afrojack) | FEAT | 40-X-34-20-10-8-5-3-5-14-24-37-X (11 non-consecutive weeks) 2016 06 No Broken Hearts (feat. (feat. G-Eazy) | 2 | 6-7-9-13-21-23-31-X (7 weeks) 2017 02 The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody) [feat. Lil Wayne] | 1 | 2-... (1+ weeks) Lil Wayne 2014 25 Joker (Beth Sherburn feat. Lil Wayne) | FEAT | 39-25-34-X (3 weeks) 2017 25 Light My Body Up (David Guetta feat. Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne) | FEAT | 25-X (1 week) 2017 11 I'm the One (DJ Khaled feat. (1+ weeks) Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus returns with new single Malibu at #14. She previously achieved three top 10s, two #9 hits with We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball, plus her highest peaker, #8 hit Fall Down with will.i.am despite that not being an official single! Polish popstar Margaret also returns with a new single, following up her #5 hit Cool Me Down with What You Do, new this week at #16. Hey Joseph,
Impressive entry from Bebe Rexha there, I've only heard it once and I thought it was ok. Miley getting some good recognition here too this week. How could you get rid of AJR feat. Louisa Johnson this week!? I will trust you to correct that bad choice and give it one of your purple stars next week! Please be sure to check out my chart for this week — Top 40 Countdown by awardinary (W/E 25/05/2017). Great chart this week! |

Hi Joseph
The Bulgarian entry is at number 1 just because he's 17-year-old I'm so happy the portuguese guy won. It was the best song imo. Sign of the Times still top 5. 'MyleyBu' is my fave new entry. Good chart |

hi Joseph!
1. Kristian Kostov - Beautiful Mess - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** he has a great voice for his age, wasn't a huge fan of the song though and I'm glad Portugal won over it 2. Bebe Rexha feat. Lil Wayne - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody) - 2- let me guess... this is yet another Whitney sample? 6. Jonas Blue feat. William Singe - Mama - 5-6- 8. We the Kings feat. Olivia Holt - Sad Song - 1-2-6-8- 11. Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 7-2-4-8-11- 13. Charlie Puth - Attention - 15-3-5-10-13- 14. Hi Joseph!
2. Bebe Rexha feat. Lil Wayne - The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody) - 2- I'm not a massive fan of Bebe but this actually sounded OK on first listen! 4. The Vamps & Martin Jensen - Middle of the Night - 12-1-2-4- I wonder if Radio 1 are going to bother with this at all now? I'm quite surprised they've ignored it so far 5. Harry Styles - Sign of the Times - 1-1-1-4-3-3-5- 6. Jonas Blue feat. William Singe - Mama - 5-6- 11. Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 7-2-4-8-11- 13. Charlie Puth - Attention - 15-3-5-10-13- 14. Miley Cyrus - Malibu - 14- Good of her not to try and chase trends. It's a nice little song but I'm not sure it will be seen as a Miley classic in years to come like WCS or WB. 17. Cheat Codes feat. Demi Lovato - No Promises - 1-2-2-4-7-10-13-17- 22. Katy Perry feat. Migos - Bon Appétit - 27-7-17-22- 23. Lady Gaga - The Cure - 3-5-8-18-23- 24. Kygo & Ellie Goulding - First Time - 20-6-14-24- 25. Mike Perry, The Vamps & Sabrina Carpenter - Hands - 25- Quite catchy but I think I prefer Middle Of The Night. 26. Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios - 5-2-5-6-5-7-4-8-9-11-14-16-15-21-26- ** LONGEST RUNNER ** 28. Lucie Jones - Never Give Up on You - 28- 29. DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne - I'm the One - 11-16-29- 30. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber - Despacito - 30-13-20-30- 38. Niall Horan - Slow Hands - 27-38- Noooo I thought you of all people would like this. I think it's a great little song, and so much better than This Town! 39. Jason Derulo feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign - Swalla - 32-3-8-11-20-26-39- Good stuff! |

Great to see Thumbs (finally) enter as well - what took you so long to get into it? City Lights, Never Give Up On You and Requiem are all great Eurovision tunes as well! Great chart Hey Pete I totally agree! Would've been my choice for winner, shame it couldn't quite make it! I overlooked Thumbs on Sabrina's album, no idea why as I love it now, all it took was hearing it live Hey Joseph, Impressive entry from Bebe Rexha there, I've only heard it once and I thought it was ok. Hey Andrew, thanks for the comments Unfortunately Weak has been kinda snowed under by so many new releases Hi Joseph The Bulgarian entry is at number 1 just because he's 17-year-old I'm so happy the portuguese guy won. It was the best song imo. Sign of the Times still top 5. 'MyleyBu' is my fave new entry. Good chart Hey Jason I'd like the song just as much if he were older you know! hi Joseph! 1. Kristian Kostov - Beautiful Mess - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** he has a great voice for his age, wasn't a huge fan of the song though and I'm glad Portugal won over it 2. Bebe Rexha feat. Maggie Lindemann - Pretty Girl - 13-2-6-12-22-31- good to see this smashing the UK chart, it's a bop good chart. Hi Dan, thanks for commenting!! 1. I didn't hate Portugal like many on the forum but I'd much rather Bulgaria took the win 2. It's not actually! Just a Whitney reference 28. The performance was spectacular, we may not have managed the top half of the leaderboard but I'm still content with our result, best in a little while! 29. ! I do still like this a lot, sadly being snowed under 31. Agreed I still prefer the original but the remix is good too! Hi Joseph! I'm quite surprised they've ignored it so far 14. I really don't understand why they haven't Capital have removed it now so I fear its chances are over already 25. I actually prefer Hands at this point 38. I do like it, it's just not quite connecting with me on a massive scale think it could be in for a bit of a climb next week though! |
