Curious about the track with Willie Nelson. Not sure if they collaborated before.

'Mary, Did You Know?' is out on Friday!

Posted by: Dexton Aug 19 2020, 02:12 PM

I'm not really a fan of this song anyway, so I'm more looking forward to the other releases - but Dolly's vocals on this are impressive!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 16 2020, 05:32 PM

'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' is out today! I'm feeling a bit more Christmassy now than I did when the first single released laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 16 2020, 06:14 PM

These are adorable laugh.gif

Posted by: Crazy Chris Sep 16 2020, 06:38 PM

Pretty Paper, the old Roy Orbison hit, is a great song.

Bit early for the release but they do tend to release Xmas albums early in the US.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 16 2020, 10:07 PM

Think she’s just trying to get some preorders as the albums out on 2/10 but the single being playlisted by radio will be hugely important.

Posted by: ManicKangaroo Sep 16 2020, 10:51 PM

She'll be appearing on Graham Norton on 2nd October to promote the album

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 17 2020, 06:34 PM

Nice to see, wonder if she will play a ‘seasonal’ track rather than a Christmas song considering the date she’s on the show? When is Graham Norton back on?

She's not actually performing on Graham Norton, just a guest. And it'll be Oct 2nd!

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 17 2020, 11:22 PM

Oh ok that makes sense

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 29 2020, 01:36 PM

'Christmas on the Square' is out today, ahead of the album on Friday!

This is definitely my favourite of the 3 so far, and I think this will be the one that gets a push nearer the time.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 29 2020, 11:06 PM

Really weird to think this is out on Friday

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Sep 30 2020, 05:05 PM

Omg! Should give the album a good boost

Posted by: Steve201 Oct 2 2020, 10:09 PM

Dolly lovely on Graham tonight and she will be back on his show nearer to December with a performance from the album!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Oct 2 2020, 10:09 PM

Confirmed on Graham Norton that she'll be back on the show performing a song from this closer to Christmas!

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey Oct 13 2020, 06:17 PM

This massively exceeded my expectations laugh.gif a really solid album, and something I'll definitely be listening to again nearer the time (and I'll check out Dolly's two past Christmas albums!)

Particular highlights were Holly Jolly Christmas, All I Want for Christmas is You and Christmas Where Are You

Hello,
Nice album and Title was awesome.

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 17 2020, 07:20 PM

Dolly rising in the albums chart this week and is on the One Show promoting currently!

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 28 2020, 12:22 AM

Her single ‘Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas’ with Michael Buble has been added to the Radio 2 B List this week!

Posted by: Sour Candy Nov 28 2020, 07:41 AM

What a successful album campaign for her! Who would have thought that after decades of so-so commercial performance she'd have such a phenomenal support.

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 28 2020, 10:08 AM

She’s on Graham Norton performing next week too

Posted by: Sour Candy Nov 28 2020, 11:08 AM

I'm actually more impressed with her US numbers, several weeks in top 20 there too.

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 28 2020, 11:37 PM

Christmas albums normally do very well in the us charts

Some do here too. Hello Buble. smile.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 29 2020, 03:06 PM

Yeh Buble has restarted a trend this decade but hard to name a big Xmas album before 2010!

Posted by: FestiveOdyssey Nov 29 2020, 03:22 PM

and "Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas" with Michael Bublé has entered the Spotify chart today at #112!

There is one big hit each year in the US, usually at least. Josh Groban's Noel was a gigantic success in the 00s. And seems that Dolly and Carrie Underwood are front runners this year.

Dolly has never been a big album seller in the US though, so that's why this is even more impressive. She has only two top ten albums!

How did she make so much money from her music when her chart positions are mainly so low!?!? I've just checked her Wikipedia I was shocked, she has a much more legendary status than they suggest!

Posted by: FestiveOdyssey Nov 29 2020, 09:16 PM

She's the highest selling female country artist of all time, so I guess they've built up over time?

Do country acts not sell very much in the USA? I was led to believe there was a huge Country following in the USA?

Posted by: Sour Candy Nov 29 2020, 09:38 PM

She might have sold more, but country wasn't really represented on pop charts back in the day apart from the biggest crossover hits. But she did get her first platinum selling album with her first pop smash Here You Come Again (song and album) and she was basically a country superstar then already.

Posted by: Wall Nov 29 2020, 10:34 PM

Jolene didn’t even do too well!

No.7 UK single.

Her main wealth has been due to her decision to licence I Will Always Love You to Whitney. Elvis wanted to sing it just before he died, late 76/early 77, but Dolly, despite being a close friend, refused him permission. You need her personal permission to record her songs, with other artists it's done through agencies. She said it was written to be sung by a lady. She says it's made her a very rich woman and earned her more money from Whitney's version than any other of her songs. I mean how many singers get a call from Elvis asking to record a song and they refuse. Well she did, much to Elvis's bewilderment. He saw it as a huge crossover pop hit which it eventually was.

That's not true re Elvis. She was happy to let him record it but he wanted half the publishing rights to it, Tom Parker his manager said "Now you know Elvis don’t record anything unless we get half the publishing" and Dolly said no. Best decision she ever made since Whitney might never have copied it otherwise and I doubt Elvis would have made the song as big.

Well I read that she wouldn't let a male record it. I'll try to find you some links.

I agree, don't think an Elvis version would be as big.

She told this story on Graham Norton a few weeks back she definitely said this. She said "I was sorry because I'd told everybody Elvis was gonna be recording one of my songs" laugh.gif

Her version of the song is really beautiful, it's more stripped back and feels more personal (although I do prefer Whitney's power house version I have to say).

Posted by: Steve201 Nov 30 2020, 01:13 AM

Yeh heard that story the other week to!

Posted by: Sour Candy Nov 30 2020, 06:06 AM

9 to 5 and Islands in the Stream were huge hits for her too. My personal fave is Hard Candy Christmas though.

She's a genius and one of the greatests. There's also a decent Netflix doc, check it out if you can.

Good for Dolly she deserves a lot more success she is legendary. The likes of her and Cher did not get the album successes they deserve!

Posted by: dannjohn Dec 3 2020, 09:36 AM

i wish she'd release the soundtrack

Posted by: CHRIS-TMAS Dec 3 2020, 10:27 PM

She's also a very shrewd and clever businesswoman too and checks everything rather than just leaving it all to her accountants. She's invested a lot of money too, both in Dollyland and other ventures so has made money that way too. Once heard her say in a radio 2 interview "nobody rips Dolly off and gets away with it" ohmy.gif She had lots of hits on the US country charts in the 60's and 70's too. She did US TV as well, mainly with Porter Wagoner, and movies and it all adds up. She's a very rich woman and has helped her family a lot.

It’s quite frequent, Lindsey Stirling did last week too. To sell enough pre-orders before October I suppose you’ve got to put something from it out there.
