6. Suedehead2 was behind...
Isao Tomita - Mars QUOTE Only one song scored under 50 out of 100. The ones that scored highest are 12 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 10 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 8 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 7 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 6 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 5 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf 4 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 3 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 2 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes 1 Art Fact - Rain In The South SCOREBOARD 1 34 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 2 34 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 3 32 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 4 30 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 5 28 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 6 25 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 7 24 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) 8 23 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 9 22 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 10 18 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie 11 17 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 12 13 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 13 12 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 14 12 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 15 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 16 9 Art Fact - Rain In The South 17 4 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) Suedehead2 opted for the late, legendary Isao Tomita. He is often considered to be a pioneer in the world of electronic music, particularly influential in synth-pop and even laying the foundations for the world of trance-like music with his futuristic rhythms. 'Mars' incredibly dates back to 1976, making it our oldest entry in this contest. It is a cover of 'Mars, the Bringer of War' by classical icon Gustav Holst. Orbital rises back to the top of the leaderboard alongside Jean-Michel Jarre, who received Suede's bronze medal. The two entries that were unavailable on streaming platforms benefit greatly here, with Vapour Space receiving top marks (allowing him to advance into the top 10 for the first time tonight) and Slacker getting a silver medal, ensuring a rise into the top 5. |

I was right in thinking that Suedehead sent the Isao Tomita song.

7. Ansel was behind...
POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) QUOTE Hi! Here are my votes: 12 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 10 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) 08 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 07 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 06 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 05 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 04 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie 03 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf 02 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) 01 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt Thanks! SCOREBOARD 1 42 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 2 42 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 3 39 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 4 39 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 5 28 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 6 28 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 7 27 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 8 26 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 9 24 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) (Ansel) 10 23 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 11 22 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie 12 15 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 13 15 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 14 12 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 15 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 16 9 Art Fact - Rain In The South 17 4 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) Ansel is currently sitting pretty in the top 10 with his obscure pick from POiSON GiRL FRiEND. This is a project by Japanese born Noriko Sekiguchi, who was raised in Brazil and attended French schools. But it was U.K. and U.S. house music that truly inspired her. 'HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)' is taken from the 1992 release MELTING MOMENT. This song adopts a trip-hop production style, heartfelt vocals and yearning lyrics. 12 points for The Future Sound Of London and 8 to Jean-Michel Jarre puts these two artists in joint first place currently. A silver medal for LFO shoots them straight back into the top 10. |

And my score doubles again - the trend is clear, I'll have 32,768 points at the end thanks Suede!
edit: damn the trend comes to an end great song choice from Ansel though! Multicultural kween Just realised AH Gold wasn't the one who sent Electribe 101 - I was wondering if you might have forgotten you already sent another version of it to BJSC or something (loving the fun facts in the reveals, actually did not know that one about my own artist, the only thing I'd seen about them from Googling was that one of their members (Sean) passed away fairly recently aw) |

Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie QUOTE 12 points: POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) 10 points: DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 8 points: The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 7 points: LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) 6 points: Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 5 points: Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 4 points: The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) 3 points: Orbital - Petrol 2 points: Art Fact - Rain In The South 1 point: Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) SCOREBOARD 1 50 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 2 42 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 3 42 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 4 39 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 5 36 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 6 36 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) (Ansel) 7 34 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 8 33 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 9 29 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 10 29 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 11 22 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie (lewistgreen) 12 19 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 13 15 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 14 12 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 15 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 16 11 Art Fact - Rain In The South 17 4 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) lewistgreen's hand was forced to reconfirm after another participant got to The Chemical Brothers first. So Morcheeba it was! They are a trip-hop group who have been active since the mid-90s. Two of their studio albums charted in the top 10, while another Big Calm may have fallen short at #18 but spent a whopping 113 weeks in the top 100. Singer Skye Edwards was part of two chart-topping charity releases: the Various Artists version of 'Perfect Day' in 1997 and the Band Aid 20 incarnation of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' later on in 2004. 'Trigger Hippie' is taken from 1996 debut album Who Can You Trust? which missed the top 40, but the song itself scraped in at #40. Ansel is now performing best out of revealed participants so far, thanks to 12 points here. Those advance POiSON GiRL FRiEND into joint 5th alongside DJ Shadow who also gets a very healthy 10 point boost. A bronze medal for Papua New Guinea puts them firmly in the lead now after previously sharing the spotlight with Jean-Michel Jarre. |

9. Doctor Blind submitted spectator votes!
QUOTE Hey Jade, Sorry that I missed the deadline sending an entry for this contest, anyway I enjoyed listening to the selections and obviously couldn't not vote when 2 of my favourite singles of the 1990s were included. Therefore here are my votes! Whoever sent “Roygbiv” if they'd have sent “Daywan Cowboy” instead they may have got the 12 but I guess it's not as fitting to the theme maybe.. 12 The Future Sound Of London “Papua New Guinea” 10 LFO “LFO [Leeds Warehouse Mix]” 08 Boards of Canada “Roygbiv” 07 Slacker “Your Face (Schizoid)” 06 DJ Shadow “Building Steam with a Grain of Salt” 05 Art Fact “Rain In The South” 04 POiSON GiRL FRiEND “HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)” 03 The Chemical Brothers “The Private Psychedelic Reel” 02 Morcheeba “Trigger Hippie” 01 William Orbit “Water from a Vine Leaf” Some great discoveries in this edition. <3 SCOREBOARD 1 62 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 2 44 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 3 42 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 4 42 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 5 42 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 6 42 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 7 40 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) (Ansel) 8 36 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 9 33 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 10 29 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 11 24 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie (lewistgreen) 12 20 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 13 19 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 14 16 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 15 16 Art Fact - Rain In The South 16 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 17 4 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) Doctor B did not submit an entry to this edition but took the time to listen through the playlist nevertheless! His votes extend The Future Sound Of London's lead to 18 points. It looks like awardinary has a contender on his hands too as LFO's silver medal here vaults them up to 2nd place on the scoreboard. A bronze medal for Boards of Canada lifts them out of the bottom 5 and ensure that they make it to the 20 point mark. |

10. Jade was behind...
Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 QUOTE 12 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 10 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf 08 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 07 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 06 Art Fact - Rain In The South 05 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 04 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) 03 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes 02 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) 01 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie SCOREBOARD 1 67 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 2 54 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 3 50 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. 4 49 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 5 46 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 6 44 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) (Ansel) 7 42 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 8 36 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 9 33 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 10 29 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 (Jade) 11 26 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 12 25 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie (lewistgreen) 13 22 Art Fact - Rain In The South 14 20 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 15 19 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 16 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 17 7 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) Host entry time! I found Vapour Space through a YouTube trawl and was hooked after one listen. I was disappointed to find that it wasn't on streaming platforms but I didn't want that to prevent me from unleashing it here. 'Gravitational Arch of 10' has a slow burning first 3 minutes but then lets rip into a techno meets trance stomper. It dates back to 1993 and appears to be a fairly obscure pick as they haven't had any hits here. It's only fitting that 'Gravitational Arch of 10' is currently sitting at #10. Another win does seem very unlikely but fingers crossed for another top 10 hit in this contest. I avoid a foot-shoot with my votes, instead topping up quite a few entries that were higher up on the scoreboard than me anyway. 'Building Steam with a Grain of Salt' was my favourite discovery of the contest and is now up to 2nd place thanks to my gold! I cut The Future Sound Of London's lead down to 13 points in the process. My 10 points for Chez's entry puts William Orbit just outside the top 10. Orbital reclaim 3rd place all for themselves after receiving my bronze. |

11. jimwatts was behind...
Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. QUOTE Thank you Jade for choosing this theme! So it was I who entered 'The Box' - I'm pleased it turned out to be a good Orbital discovery for some of you, even though it was vetoed! Well, hopefully you got two for the price of one from me, as 'The Box' led me to buy the parent album In Sides - the first time I'd done that for an electronica group - from which my eventual entry was taken. Anyway, here are my votes: 12 Art Fact - Rain In The South 10 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) 08 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf 07 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 06 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 05 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) 04 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 03 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 02 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 01 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie SCOREBOARD 1 67 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea 2 58 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt 3 55 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel 4 50 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. (jimwatts) 5 49 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you) (Ansel) 6 46 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary) 7 45 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1 8 38 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid) 9 34 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat) 10 34 Art Fact - Rain In The South 11 33 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself 12 29 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10 (Jade) 13 29 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry) (AH Gold) 14 27 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv 15 26 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie (lewistgreen) 16 11 Isao Tomita - Mars (Suedehead2) 17 7 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer) 18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester) jimwatts is the poster behind 'P.E.T.R.O.L.' and originally 'The Box', as outlined in his PM. This entry is taken from the aforementioned In Sides album, which got its name due to being released on a 3LP vinyl with one song per disc side. The record dates back to 1996 and blends both techno and breakbeat sounds. 'P.E.T.R.O.L.' was created for the game Wipeout and also appears on the soundtrack for the psychological thriller film Pi. Jim is doing rather well so far as he currently sits in 4th place. He was on the podium but performs a foot-shoot after awarding 6 points to The Chemical Brothers. Art Fact and William Orbit finally get a bit of a move on thanks to gold and bronze medals respectively; both are in the top 10. The Sabres Of Paradise receive their highest points so far, with 10 in these votes. The Future Sound Of London are snubbed but remain in first, however their lead is cut to 9 points thanks to DJ Shadow receiving 4 points. |

Ooh another of my top 3 unmasked in quick succession. The Orbital song was my favourite discovery from this (as I already knew my 12), Orbital are usually reliably good - shall be checking out their new album very soon, hype for that - but this was instantly up there with their best for me! Maybe the veto was for the best since this one is still doing really well anyway. x
