How is Nicki holding up so well right now? She really should be long gone from the top 10.

So did the albums around her. In fact the one above sold far less.

She's hung around because Only became a sleeper hit and she's already got another with Truffle Butter. Urban smashes sell albums better than pop radio hits.

Is that total for The Pinkprint correct? Thought it will be way above 600k given it was released in December and opened with 244k.

The total I listed is correct.

You're getting confused between her opening units (244k) and her opening sales (198k).

Aphex Twin - Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt 2 - 3,000

Just missed the Top Album Sales chart (old Billboard 200), as #99 sold 3,200 (rundown only has 100 positions), and he's not on the Billboard 200.

New BB200 formula definitely not helping him.

But I don't really care about sales, it's the units figure that count in my books... so that could be 600k-ish then?

Billboard still uses sales when referring to totals, they don't use their hybrid units at all, eg, when Taylor passed 4 million, it was 4 million sales.

The system is a joke because you can't rank albums according to "units" and say one album is number one despite accumulating fewer sales, but then discount those extra units later on. Either they count as part of an album's total (weekly total and running total) or they don't.

Indeed. I'm sure this is temporary for Billboard though and I hope it's a transition period for Soundscan too.

In the future hope that they give only total units, both TEA+SEA and sales, or nothing at all.

I don't think they will because the Billboard 200 is the only chart that uses SEA/TEA. All the other album charts that billboard publishes eg, catalogue, rock, county, hip-hop, etc use sales. The current incarnation of the BB200 is just Billboard's way of making it look like albums are selling more than they are.

If Billboard started counting their made up unit totals in total sales, no-one would ever take Billboard seriously again.

And while you want the SEA/TEA enhanced totals to stand for Nicki cos you're a fan, you won't be saying that when someone like Flo Rida, Pitbull or LMFAO are Top 10 for months because of it laugh.gif

LOL what are you talking about, of course anyone who charts top ten should be there.

I stream 90% of the music I listen to, I don't want things to be that ancient that only traditional sales count.

I'm still a bit confused on TEA's. Do sales of these tracks count towards both the individual tracks total sales and the parent album's total sales?

For example, if I was to purchase Nicki Minaj's Anaconda would its sale count towards Anaconda's total sales and part (I believe the ratio is 10 track downloads make up 1 TEA) of a TEA sale for the Pink Print album?

I hope that made sense!

Correct.

The sale counts twice - hot 100 and billboard 200, but it's the "Top Album Sales" chart that counts towards total sales.
