Incredible is not one of my faves. It is not the worst on the HC album however !! I would give that to Spanish Lesson. I’m not a fan of voices either !!

I like the concept of the song, like how the rhythm changes to reflect the shift in mood, but there's something off about the finish product. I don't think Pharrell's production choice works; the structure of the song is very repetitive and lengthy so the production needs to counteract, but it's very noisy and busy throughout as well as quite basic, so everything just clashes.
I was going to say Orbit or Mirwais would be more equipped to handle a song structured like this (not that the lyrics in this exact song would suit their style) but then remembered Pharrell did a fine job of producing a 6 minute song just before this - 'She's Not Me'. |

Definitely too long, but an interesting structure and insanely catchy. When I listen to this album, this is the song that stays in my head long after it's finished
 I guess it's a combination of how repetitive it is for so long!

06. Love Profusion Love Profusion was the final single released from American Life. The song was dedicated to Madonna's then husband, Guy Ritchie, and it continues the theme of the album which is the confusion Madonna saw within American culture. The song was not a success in the US (much like most of the album), however it did make a splash elsewhere around the globe. The song has yet to be performed on any tours, nor did it receive any promotion at the time of its release. What are your thoughts on this single from 2003? |

Not a fan of this at all. Prefers the remix on the remix album.
Nothing Fails should have been a world wide single with a video. It would have done wonders for the album. |

The video is very saccharine, but the song is gorgeous. I think it gets an unjust hard time from Madonna fans!

The absolute highlight of the album for me, crazy that it wasn't released as a single as I think it would have done quite well and even appealed to people outside of her usual fanbase.

I'd definitely have made this single #3, but only with a proper video. I could envision something really moody and story-led, perhaps a minute or two longer than the actual song.
The song itself is an album highlight, as mentioned already. I think a lot of 'Hard Candy' gets a hard time but I would have liked it to explore this sound more. It's still recognisably Timbaland/Timberlake but Madonna has more presence and personal stamp. |

10. Easy Ride Easy Ride on American Life is about wanting to live a comfortable existance, but wanting to work for it and gain everything that life has to offer. It is a hugely reflective song in which the knowledge she has built is culminated and intricately explored. In the song, she looks forward at passing on her life experiences to her children and let go of her past disappointments. With beautiful strings and Madonna's mournful vocals, it makes a stark contrast to the most of the rest of the album on which it features. What are your thoughts on this reflective track from 2003? |

In a similar way to 'Little Star' in the 90s thread, this song is a fair bit different to what else is on its album and so it can be overlooked. However, the slow-pace and reflective lyrics work well against the harsh, backdrop of some of the other songs. I think it's a real "stop you in your tracks" moment and another example of how less is sometimes a whole lot more.

Big fan of 'Easy Ride'! Potentially my favourite album closer from Madonna. It just sums up her feelings explored on the record perfectly; her rejection of instantaneous fame and her appreciation of family. Those chopped strings at the end are a highlight!
Random but the guitar always reminded me of 'Tribute' by Tenacious D!
