Confide in me i think was expected by many to go number 1 as it was the big Kylie comeback plus Wet Wet Wet had been number 1 for weeks so the number 1 looked almost certain for Kylie and it was a shock it missed it. Some Kind of Bliss was another comeback sort of singles with Kylie showcasing a complete new direction and considering Kylie had never missed the top 20 with a single before this going in at 22 was a complete shock chart outcome.

For me i was disappointed confide in me didnt get kylie another number 1 but some kind of bliss i was gutted when i saw how low it charted especially for a lead single, it was def an omg moment in a bad way for me at that time.

Actually, I was pleased Kylie managed to make No.2 with Confide in Me. Making that move from PWL, that her previous 3 singles had all missed the Top 10 and that CIM, whilst brilliant, was an over-six-minutes indie-pop track had me thinking it was a bit iffy as to how well she could do.

I never expected Some Kind of Bliss, whilst being another sharp change of direction, to miss the Top 20!!

I was kinda the same with confide in me especially with celebration just about making the top 20 and what kind of fool also missing the top 10 and having a short chart run so bouncing back to get number 2 was great. Some kind of Bliss I actually thought would go top 10 at the time and looking back I should have seen it had no chance but I never in a million years expected it to miss the top 20.

Definitely SKOB missing the Top 20 - it was unheard of for Kylie for a lead single to ‘flop’. It felt like a huge moment and downturn in her career and allowed the media to write her off and killed the IP project before it was even released or given a chance.

I wasn’t shocked with CIM missing #1, we were used to Kylie stalling at #2 and CIM was so different I think I was just pleased that it was a proper hit and had been well received.

Looking back on the charts the week of release it’s even more shocking what charted ahead of Kylie - acts such as Jaydee, Sundays, Snoop Dogg etc., - there were 11 new entries ahead of it and it’s incredible to see with the promo and hype of it being the lead single that it failed so miserably against some relativity unknown songs.

You can’t even put its lack of success down to the mood following the death of Princess Diana (Elton John entered at #1 the same week SKOB was released) as there were upbeat songs by Ricky Martin, Mark Morrison, Chumbawumba etc., doing well and charting high.

Confide In Me had people talking about Kylie in a positive way and the track made people see another side of Kylie that was welcomed greatly and there is nothing wrong with a Number 2 hit.
Some Kind of Bliss sadly was the opposite of the above.

Confide in me was a game changer in many ways for kylie as it gained her the credibility she wanted. Some kind of bliss and IP was a game changer aswell from the long term point of view and while a commercial disaster it was the road that led back to pop kylie.Amazing too how we look at the disappoint of a single going in at 22 but in todays chart that would be like a massive wow moment.

At the time I think I was pleasantly surprised to see Confide In Me debut as high as #2 so I have to vote for SKOB

The biggest Kylie shock for me was when Spinning Around made #1

This! The days before midweeks were readily available - I remember going into Virgin Megastore to buy all the formats and the guy serving me day it was their biggest seller of the week and it would be #1

With spinning around I remember Girl Thing were tipped for number 1 in the lead up to the release and it was hard to predict kylie but once the video came out the press were all over it and I thought maybe kylie can do it so I was dying for the midweeks to be released and I was over the moon but nervous she wouldn't hold on.
Kids was a shock for me as I was sure it would go to number 1 as kylies popularity was really on the up and robbie was huge then so I was disappointed it lost out but not nearly as disappointed as some kind of bliss going in at 22.

Kids, On A Night Like this, of the two which was closest to Number 1?
Was Some Kind of Bliss far behind Number 20 on its debut week?

Confide in Me entering at 2 was an epic moment not a disappointment ….just like how GMJALMT entered at 5 and climbed to 2. Both were an upturn in success after the public were going off her.

SKOB was a highlydepressing moment and despite sales generally being better in 1997 it killed off the era for sure, despite the quality of the next two singles.

I think there was a chance if another lead single was released of some kind of bliss it might have gone top 20 but I'm not sure would top 10 have happened no matter what the song.
I agree about GMJALMT climbing to number 2 was great and credit to if we're with me now when it jumped from 19 to 4.

The Let's Get To It singles were very up and down with the chart peaks achieved.

I think with Lets get to it, word is out missing the top 10 was a massive shock at the time, up to that point it was almost a given that a kylie single would go top 10 so for a lead single to completely miss it was a shock so the follow up singles it was very much hoping they would do well, luckily Give me just a llittle more time and if if you were with me now were back to back top 5's but then Finer Feelings came and missed the Top 10 although peaking at the very annoying number 11.
With Some kind of bliss, it went number 27 in Australia which wasnt as much of a shock as UK 22 as a few of Kylies previous singles had charted much lower there plus her aussie chart positions werent nearly as consistent as her uk chart runs although Confide me me was her first number 1 there since got to be certain.
