Why are they still supporting the LM track after its disappearing so quick. Usually A Listed songs from big artists like them last the usual 6 weeks then get dropped.
That L Devine track is a really good pop song pit she wasn't a big name as it'll just be stuck on the C List for 3/4 weeks like artists like that always do. |

New Order - 'Crystal' So this was playlisted? I was listening to R1 loads at the time and remember wondering why I didn't hear it. Always assumed it was snubbed because they were a previous generation's band or something. I do remember Mark and Lard giving Here to Stay the Record of the Week though. ROTW was a good way of getting things that would never otherwise get daytime R1 play on the air, like Tear Off Your Own Head by Elvis Costello in 2002. Turned out a whole station of that was too much for me though. This post has been edited by Hiyaluv: 27th July 2019, 09:15 PM |

The INMWT list hasn't existed for years has it? It's just been a single BBC Introducing track for quite a while.

Yeah the playlist system hasn't changed since 2016, it's still 15 on the A list, 15 on the B list, 12 on the C list and an introducing track.

Great to see Vampire Weekend playlisted again. Surprised that they've gone for "Stranger" as the next focus track, would have thought that "Sympathy" would've been the next single.

'Sympathy' would have been the sensible and far better choice, not really a fan of 'Stranger' at all (but yes, it's good that VW are still getting continued support whatever the song).

Bambina would be great too, even if it's not even two minutes long! Also, Sunflower deserves to be a 'proper' single. This post has been edited by Hiyaluv: 27th July 2019, 10:03 PM |

I can imagine if VW ever move on from radio 1 they may be a 6 Music bad rather than Radio 2 but you never know things like the first two singles from this album could go on both.

Think they have been playlisted by 1,2 and 6 recently. Quite liking the longevity of the likes of Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, Friendly Fires and Vampire Weekend. In my day, it was all over R1-wise within 3-4 years for most indie-leaning bands. Lengthier gaps between albums help, I guess. Also helps that they are still releasing material that suits the station and that few bands have become big enough to replace them as R1's leading 'indie' lights. Loving that retro playlist once again the thing that strikes me about it the most is the sheer variety of music on it. Looking it just the A-list alone, there's rock, indie, rap, R&B, dance, pop, garage, trip-hop and various sub-genres within those. These days a lot of songs just sound the same as each other, there's so little variety I can't even work out why that's happened.

I noticed that too. I think for me it's just myself getting old. Im sure my da probably said music in the early 90s like dance was terrible and sounds the same. For me the explosion of British grime and rap in the mid-late Tens has not helped along with the move to streaming which seems to dominate Spotify and Apple hence the huge amount of NEs in the top 40 each week of artists the average person hasn't heard of and have little radio airplay.
Thing is there's certain genres now that get next to no chart success singles wise which can only be a bad thing imo. Fair play to radio 1 though they keep playing new and old bands even though they do better with regards to ticket sales and albums than singles wise. 'Another Chance' in that retro chart I'm sad that I was only 3 when that song was all over the radio. God bless Now 49 for helping me to discover my favourite song of all-time. A few Now 49 (+ 50!) gems there actually, 'Castles In The Sky' being another particular highlight <3

This playlist was when I was in the peak of my youth 18 yo and remember it like it was yday! Castles in the Sky was huge and I remember the summer Another Chance was the most played song on radio. I was just finished my A-Levels 😭 Was that Redman Let's Get Dirty track an early version of the future Christina no1 hit a couple of years later? He's the featured rapper isn't he? Anyone else remember Cosmic Gate & Raven Maize? 2 forgotten classics, got both of cd!! |
