Biography

As a member of the British boy band One Direction, Harry Styles topped the charts, toured the world, and sold millions of albums before going solo in 2016. Reflecting the influence of childhood favorites Queen, Elton John, and the Beatles, Styles' solo material took a more serious and rock-based approach, while still delivering the pop sound his faithful fans desired. His self-titled album debut appeared in 2017 and debuted at the top of the U.S. album charts. Later that year, he made his movie debut in the Oscar-winning epic Dunkirk, which topped American box offices, making Styles the first British artist to secure a number one debut single, album, and film in the same year. His sophomore album Fine Line arrived in 2019. - iTunes

Biography

Delivering woozy trap and hedonistic rap verses on tracks such as "Gucci Mane" from their 2018 debut Any Minute Now, D-Block Europe are a London-based rap duo featuring Dirtbike LB and Young Adz.

The two rappers met while at school in South London — LB was impressed with the skill Adz exemplified on his first track "Da Prodigy," released when he was just 13. The pair struck up a friendship, with Adz going on to sign a deal with Universal and gaining a following with his mixtapes. The pair began to collaborate in 2014; however, they decided to spend the next two years honing their craft to achieve a unique mix for their project. They made their first appearance in 2017, releasing the singles "Love of the Money" and "Large Amounts" on D-Block Records. The duo gained recognition with the tracks and with continuous support from the BBC's Fire in the Booth and the Westwood Crib Sessions. The two went on to work with various other artists including Not3s and Don Andre. D-Block Europe released their debut LP, Any Minute Now, which featured Yxng Bane in July 2018. Their second mixtape, Home Alone, arrived in early 2019 and featured guest appearances from the likes of Nafe Smallz and M Huncho. After seeing "iamspamspamamiKings" become a U.K. hit, the duo continued in their 2019 hot streak: expansive mixtapes PTSD and Street Trauma dropped in September and December respectively, pulling features from the likes of Dave, Freddie Gibbs and Lil Baby.

Biography

Nobody makes feeling bad sound as good as The Weeknd. Even the singer’s sunniest tracks (“Can’t Feel My Face,” “Starboy”) feel anchored by darkness—the sense that pleasure is pain and beauty decays and you can’t have the night without the morning after. The brainchild of Toronto singer Abel Tesfaye, the project took off in 2011 with a string of mixtapes (later collected as 2012’s Trilogy) that forged cavernous, falsetto-driven R&B with narratives drenched in drugs, sex, and other regrettable decisions—a sound both sensuous and detached, featherlight and dead heavy. One of the earliest musicians to find his footing on the internet, Tesfaye originally offered his music through YouTube and free downloads, a move that felt radical then but is common now. Ethiopian by heritage (his parents immigrated to Canada in the late ’80s, just before he was born), Tesfaye—out from behind the mask of making art online—has since come to represent the changing face of Toronto, rooting himself not just in an international musical community but in a specific diasporic experience. Like the work of collaborator Lana Del Rey or early booster (and fellow Toronto native) Drake, Tesfaye’s music has become a symbol of hedonism pushed to bleak excess, with a series of albums—including 2015’s Grammy-winning Beauty Behind the Madness, 2016’s multiplatinum Starboy, and 2020’s dense and atmospheric After Hours—whose narrators can’t seem to say no even if they hate themselves for it later. And though his music has gotten a little brighter over time, the prevailing mood remains heavy, even unsettling—the ride you want more of even when you’ve had too much. Speaking to Apple Music about the persona behind his songs, Tesfaye said, “I’m a chill person. That guy is who I am, but it is who I am to myself and in my writing. Sometimes you take him and then you create more, and then it becomes this beast. You add more to him, and then it’s uncontrollable—its own character. It’s like Scarface, the villain: It’s horrible, but you can’t stop looking at it.” - iTunes

Biography

East Staffordshire-based producer Nathan Dawe creates club music that draws heavily from garage and R&B.

Born in Burton-upon-Trent in 1994, Dawe began remixing other producers in his early twenties. Although he had begun to make a name for himself, it wasn't until the release of his 2018 single "Cheatin" that his career took off; after releasing the track, Atlantic Records got in touch to sign a deal. The single took a vocal sample from Deborah Cox's "It's Over Now" and added a propulsive garage-inspired bassline underneath.

Biography

Ritt Momney is the solo project of 20-year-old Salt Lake City native Jack Rutter. Beginning as an indie rock band comprised of high school friends, the project became a personal outlet for Rutter after his bandmates left on Mormon missions and his girlfriend left for college. In his bedroom, he wrote, recorded, and produced his debut LP, entitled “Her and All of My Friends,” in which Rutter grapples with loss, loneliness, and a drift away from Mormon culture. A live Ritt show currently features Rutter and Stephen Schultz. - Spotify

The chart history of Fleetwood Mac is incredibly bizarre. I would not have expected that to be a #1 hit (especially over certain other classics) then the likes of Dreams and Don’t Stop didn’t appear to do much commercially? Landslide & The Chain are arguably two of their very biggest songs yet are basically not there

I’m glad it’s entered even if for a strange reason

Biography

London-based, American-born rapper and singer Ashnikko makes genre-bending hip-hop and electronic pop, marked by her hyper-stylized, anime- and video game-influenced persona. Following two initial EPs, she gained widespread viral buzz with her song "Stupid," featuring Yung Baby Tate, off 2019's Hi It's Me.

Born Ashton Nicole Casey in 1996 in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Ashnikko grew up in Greensboro. She discovered rap around age 11, listening to M.I.A. In her teens she lived in both Estonia and Latvia, where her father was working. It was during this period that she began making her own music, influenced by artists like Nicki Minaj, Björk, and other artists. In 2017, she released a digital EP, the Raf Riley-produced Sass Pancakes, which included the track "Krokodil." A second EP, Unlikeable, followed in 2018 and included the song "No Brainer." In 2019, Ashnikko returned with the five-track EP Hi It's Me, which featured the song "Stupid" with Yung Baby Tate. The track and video went viral on several platforms, helping it reach number one on both the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop chart. That same year, she toured with Danny Brown. "Cry," a collaboration with Grimes, arrived in June 2020.

Lifeless, dreary cover version. spirit-crushing and awful.

The original is better.

What do we have to do to get rid of D-Block Europe completely?

Biography

Make no mistake – Dutchavelli is doing it for greatness. The east London rapper set a goal four years ago – to be the best. A rapper’s rapper with true global appeal, a handsome side road hustler gone national, a man with a firm presence and a clear vision – Dutch has it all. And – in Only If You Knew and Surley– he already has two of the year’s biggest singles under his belt... With the UK hanging on for his next release, Dutch’s ambitions now reach far and wide – into Europe (perhaps he’ll exercise his bi-lingual talent on a future track?) and toward the United States. He’s a true mogul too. Business like (he wants his label, 2Up2Down, to become a hot spot for young acts), but also charitable (earlier this year he gave away free chicken and chips to school kids across south London), Dutch is perhaps the most versatile, multi-faceted rap act to come from the UK in years. There’s been no slip-up, no selling out, and no watering down of his experience for commercial woo-ing either.

So maybe you’ll hear the ripples of conversation first, proclaiming Dutch as the one to watch out for – a maverick who runs rings around most current rappers, without substituting technical brilliance for a hook – or maybe you’ll hear the unmistakable voice. But – whether you like it or not – both are coming. The scene is set. Dutchavelli, the great, is here.
