BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Alexandra Burke - The Truth Is

Posted by: *Tim Jul 31 2017, 02:23 PM

So appaz The Beast is gonna give music another chance after whatever musical she is playing in right now.

She's been recording and posting about it, so it's safe to say she willrelease something. What do we think? Can she pull a James Arthur and make an actual comeback??

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 31 2017, 06:57 PM

I'm hedging my bets on a Broadway covers album at Christmas.

Posted by: danG Jul 31 2017, 07:05 PM

Is she signed to a major label? Can't really see her happening again though, she's all but forgotten about and she won't have Radio 1 on her side.

I was disappointed there was no elephant, let alone one in a room with Alexandra Burke in the video for Elephant (ft Erick Morillo)

Happy for her to secure a major deal after Strictly. I just hope the music's good and she somehow incorporates a jive into a music video. laugh.gif

Wait what, Decca?! laugh.gif Not that they're a bad label, but they're more of a rock/jazz label? Still, it's under UMG which is good! Maybe she will be under a different division of UMG and Decca is temporary or a mistake?

Leading Ladies she wishes.

Posted by: Lenny Dec 22 2017, 01:19 AM

The ultimate in your face would be if she has a number 1 single called "ok.com"

I'm sure it'd be no more in your face than "Shout Out To My Ex"

Posted by: Liаm Dec 22 2017, 05:00 AM

Decca makes me think that it'll be like a theatrical vocal focused sort of album, not necessarily covers but it won't be pop bangers anyway laugh.gif Tbh with her doing a lot of theatre it's not like it's out of the blue although I'd prefer pop bangers of course. I think getting somewhere with the West End side of her career could be a really good thing to come from Strictly anyway.

Decca has realistic expectations imho. They won't expect a best-seller - a top twenty album will do.

Posted by: Liаm Dec 23 2017, 03:52 PM

Plenty of people did stage albums before Kimberley Walsh? laugh.gif

Actually that's a good point about Decca though, having Decca opposed to one of the big pop labels or something similar probably means a better chance for another album as they won't have as much of an expectation so if it just goes top 20 they'll probably be happy to chuck out another. I doubt these sort of albums really cost much anyway as they're largely if not solely covers. Perhaps it can be a surprise success and a pop label picks her up, we can dream...

Posted by: SGrey Dec 23 2017, 03:56 PM

I meant being a Strictly finalist, signing to Decca and (most likely for Alex), releasing a covers album, not the stage album aspect! laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm Dec 23 2017, 04:08 PM

Ohhhh I forgot Kim was on Decca laugh.gif And I'm tired af so didn't even consider the Strictly aspect.

Queen is getting MARRIED to the absolute hunk Josh! wub.gif So happy for them both and can't wait to hear whatever new music she brings out this year.

This is what she wrote on the gram:

QUOTE
18-12- 17 🇫🇷 I said YES!
Smiling as I type this because it was the best day ever in Paris and so unexpected. My soul mate and my love asked me something that I could only have dreamt of. Being in love is one of the most magical feelings life has to offer.
So grateful for this amazing man in my life who has supported my family and I through so much.
We decided to keep this between us for a while to enjoy this special moment and that’s why we haven’t said anything... Something so amazing honestly felt so overwhelming because there was only one person I wanted to call when it happened. I know she is smiling and very happy for us both - because little did I know she knew about it. 😇
For those who guessed and have left such beautiful messages - thank you.
Josh is someone who makes me so happy and I’ve never felt this kind of love before.
Here’s to an amazing future that’s filled with love, joy and so much happiness.
I love you Joshua Ginnelly. I can’t wait to see what our future brings and what God provides for us xxx

Posted by: Cameron Jan 19 2018, 07:00 PM

She confirmed this album

Posted by: Theo. Jan 28 2018, 04:34 PM

She's performing G-A-Y on 17th February so a new single will be released by the 16th at the very latest *.* The OCC has confirmed she'll be bringing the bangers on the album:

QUOTE
Alexandra Burke has shared details about her upcoming album, assuring fans that there will be uptempo tracks on the collection.

The singer revealed the news in her first ever Facebook live session earlier this week, where she was live streaming from a recording studio in Newcastle during her day off from the Strictly Come Dancing UK tour.

Alexandra releases her new album, called The Truth Is, on March 9 via Decca Records. It's the singer's third album and first in six years, since 2012's Heartbreak On Hold.

"I'm so, so excited about it!" she said of the album. "A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me."

"There is going to be a single. Are there uptempo tracks? Of course. Are there features? Just saying... watch this space."

Alexandra will be hitting the road with the album this September - her first music tour since 2010. The Truth Is tour takes in 13 dates so far, kicking off in Southend on September 1 and includes a show at the London Palladium on September 16.

The star revealed that more dates are likely to be announced in the coming weeks, including Dublin.

To date, Alexandra has eight Top 40 singles on the Official Singles Chart, three on which have hit Number 1 - including Bad Boys and Start Without You.

Her X Factor winner's single Hallelujah, which is one of the UK's biggest selling Christmas Number 1s ever.

First play of her new single Shadow is on Radio 2 at 12:05pm on Saturday!!

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 7 2018, 05:27 PM

Hope she brings more unused and unknown expressions to the country, like an elephant in the room!

'That boy is shadowing me, shadowing me!'

Or maybe 'Throwin shade like a shadooow'

No one has ever heard those before!

Posted by: Jack Feb 7 2018, 06:19 PM

I've got a feeling she will go down the more MOR route with this.

I want a banger, that's what she was known for!

Posted by: Theo. Feb 7 2018, 07:41 PM

Ew at a Radio 2 premiere (on a Saturday!) I hope it's available from Friday at least.

To be fair - Radio One probably won't touch her with a bargepole so going down a Radio 2 friendly route is probably her best bet for a semi-decent selling album.

Plus, it's on Decca - aren't they mostly known for MOR acts?

Posted by: Midge Feb 8 2018, 01:28 PM

I'd imagine she's going down the classic-but-modern Whitney Houston route.

Posted by: P@ul Feb 10 2018, 12:23 PM

It just premiered!
I like it.

Posted by: UltraReputation Feb 10 2018, 01:18 PM

The single is being released on the 23rd February 👀

I don't get the point of premiering it and not releasing it straight away 😂

Posted by: Spiceboy Feb 10 2018, 01:20 PM

It should at least be available for pre-order!

Posted by: lewistgreen Feb 10 2018, 01:23 PM

This will probably get taken down at some point, but here it is

Posted by: Juranamo Feb 10 2018, 01:28 PM

It’s a nice song, not bad, but it’s not what I need from Alex. sad.gif

Posted by: Theo. Feb 10 2018, 01:32 PM

It's so weird to hear her singing again! I like it on first listen, it's not too dissimilar to some of the midtempos from 'Overcome'. It's made me feel more confident about the album being of good quality - which has now been pushed back to 16th March.

Posted by: Midge Feb 10 2018, 02:14 PM

It plods along like something from the early 90s!

Not bad on first listen. Time will tell if it's a grower or a no-er.

Posted by: Liаm Feb 10 2018, 02:29 PM

Yeah definitely it sounds like something Mica Paris would have released in like 1992 and peaked at #18, remixed a bit for 2018 laugh.gif

Posted by: Botchia Feb 10 2018, 02:32 PM

It's nothing special and what an odd release strategy!!

Posted by: LB1108 Feb 10 2018, 03:21 PM

Alexandra bringing back the held back release strategy *_*

Posted by: P@ul Feb 10 2018, 03:49 PM

This video is far superior in quality and I’m kinda hooked on it ngl

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 10 2018, 04:16 PM

I paused Mabel - My Luvah for this, but I'm gong back to that. Very plodding, very cheesy. Held-back releases are no longer a thing, just like this sound laugh.gif

Posted by: Cucumberella Feb 10 2018, 04:40 PM

Posted by: Jonjo Feb 10 2018, 04:44 PM

This is so Atomic Kitten 'Feels So Good' era reject, it hurts!! I'd be here for this if this was 2002, but I can't. Sorry Burkey. sad.gif

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 10 2018, 04:47 PM

Let's all listen to a superior song with the same theme:

Posted by: Spiceboy Feb 10 2018, 06:36 PM

I quite like it, nothing special but nice enough. It does make me think of Atomic Kitten though!

Posted by: Rossco Feb 10 2018, 07:04 PM

I quite like it but there’s too much fiddling with her voice as it hardly sounds like her at all.

Random; I love the song overcome btw, so good.

Posted by: Scene Feb 12 2018, 11:46 PM

Misfire. Should've had a The Boy Does Nothing-type number.

Posted by: Tombo Feb 15 2018, 03:51 AM

Shadow is so good, it is lovely to have her back!

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 15 2018, 04:01 AM

Ehh it's okayyy but it does make her sound about 40. This is the kind of thing I'd expect X Factor never-has-beens like Rowetta or Tesco Mary to be releasing, not Alexandra Burke.

It does boggle why she (presumably) chose this direction after just being on a platform to re-launch her career. Like...it's exactly the kind of song I can see maybe appealing to the higher end of Radio 2's audience and possibly anyone that has lingering affection for Alex herself, but it's not exactly going to pick up lots of new fans.

Posted by: Bitch Feb 23 2018, 10:13 AM

Posted by: Midge Feb 23 2018, 12:26 PM

Posted by: Tombo Feb 23 2018, 01:12 PM

Posted by: lewistgreen Mar 2 2018, 11:23 PM

Posted by: Cameron Mar 2 2018, 11:27 PM

Very simple but she looks fab

Posted by: Spiceboy Mar 3 2018, 12:42 PM

It reminds me of a mixture of Eternal and Atomic Kitten! I like it nice and catchy.

Posted by: Midge Mar 4 2018, 06:39 PM

"Shadow" is almost so dreadful that it's enjoyable! laugh.gif

Posted by: Theo. Mar 13 2018, 08:22 PM

She had performances on ITV (Saturday Night Takeaway) and BBC One (Bruce Forsyth: A Celebration) this weekend:

Alex performs from 1:58. What is up with Joe McElderry's face?! Has he forgotten how to sing? :| I can't find her performance from the Bruce Forsyth programme on YouTube but I imagine she performed a cover there as well. A shame she isn't promoting her new music at all.

Posted by: Tombo Mar 16 2018, 10:48 AM

Posted by: Mikee1981 Mar 16 2018, 11:35 AM

Well...

Posted by: Theo. Mar 25 2018, 04:01 PM

I think there was only one song on this album that I actually enjoying listening to. Such a shame that with her revived career she couldn't do anything more exciting, it's not like this move to MOR music has paid off as it's only peaked two places higher than her last album 6 years ago.

However in MOR career positives, she's been announced to play Svetlana Sergievsky in the West End revival of Chess from 26th April until 2nd June.

Posted by: Cameron Mar 25 2018, 04:18 PM

I guess the positive of this is that it peaked higher than HOH

Totally - for a ‘pop’ act to have an album chart 16-Out there has got to be zero interest in a tour!

Posted by: Jüpiter Jun 16 2018, 08:52 AM

She should do XF really, she could do with a reality TV boost to her career, even a small one.
I know she did Strictly but she got a lot of flack for that didn't she?

Posted by: Klaus Jun 16 2018, 09:12 AM

Considering the amount of flack she got for her one show guest stint, I don’t think that will give a bigger boost than a show with double the viewers.

Posted by: Liаm Jun 16 2018, 12:47 PM

Also the focus is surely even more on her as one of four judges than it is when she's dancing, she got shit on Strictly for crying over her dead mum and being happy to advance another week so with how her guest stint went over in mind plus how people get over X Factor, I doubt she'd offer herself up for what would almost certainly be a disaster.

I don't think she's big enough to do it

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jun 16 2018, 10:23 PM

She would be horrendous as a judge her guest stint alone put a lot of people off her personality and ok.com inpaticular is now infamous.
She may have talent but she comes across horrendously on shows insincere and OTT basically the same way Jessie J acts i think that’s why her early popularity didn’t sustain onto albums two and three and to go on tour now just wouldn’t work unfortunately even in small venues she’s best off sticking to theatre as that’s where she’ll draw crowds and earn money
