BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Hailee Steinfeld & Grey feat. Zedd - Starving

Posted by: Ryan. Jul 8 2016, 10:56 PM

No-one is quite sure who is the lead artist and who is featuring on this collaboration just yet, but a picture posted on Twitter seems to confirm that the collaboration between Hailee Steinfeld, Zedd and Grey titled 'Starving' will be released next Friday!

Snippets have been posted in various places, some comparing it to Justin Bieber's 'Love Yourself' with bigger production. If Hailee is the lead artist then I guess this will be the first single from her debut full-length album... exciting times! biggrin.gif

I am IN for this

I have been noticing that Zedd has been tagging Grey on Twitter using the hashtag #ZSquad so I had a feeling the two were gonna collab more often (especially after "Candyman"), so to see this so soon is exciting.

So excited for this. Hopefully it's a lot better than True Colors!

Ready for this!

Who is Grey? Pleased to see Hailee getting another push, her tunes have been seriously poptastic.

It's a male duo, I'm not 100% sure if they are just a production duo or are vocalists too but they have various remixes of songs on their Soundcloud.

Perhaps this remix of "Papercut" will help:

It's here! It reminds me of Love Yourself in the verses and then Sorry in the choruses, but the type of guitars used in the Love Yourself parts are the type you'd find in your deep house music. The whole thing reminds me a bit of Nico & Vinz's 'That's How You Know' which I was one of the few fans of.

Hailee's vocals are glorious and the whole thing is very on trend, I'm a big fan and have already listened a few times! I can imagine being in a car on a sunny day and having this song blasting out of the stereo. It's not as good as Love Myself - what is? -, but I think it has more hit potential!

This has been added as track 6 on yet another re-release of the Haiz EP on New Zealand iTunes, so looks like this isn't going to be the first single from a new campaign just yet!

Maybe the plan is just to keep adding new tracks onto reissues of the EP and eventually it'll be long enough to be the album! magic.gif

While this is very good I don't like it as much as Love Myself or Rock Bottom - however it is an absolute smash if it gets a chance.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jul 15 2016, 01:32 PM

I think this is her best song to date! I totally hear the Bieber comparisons that Ryan made, but the production reminds me of The Chainsmokers' Roses meets Skrillex & Diplo's Where Are U Now. Really good!

Posted by: Joe. Jul 15 2016, 01:35 PM

It's no Love Myself but (Or Love Yourself for that matter) but I feel like this has real potential to grow, as it already sounds better on a second listen - even if it isn't quite what I expected or wanted from a Zedd/HS collab,

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Jul 16 2016, 12:00 PM

Why do they keep adding songs to her EP? Are they refusing to fund an album??

Top 25 on UK Spotify, playlisted on Capital FM... Hailee is about TO HAPPEN!!!!

!

She needs to get the video out asap for airplay

Posted by: Ryan. Sep 1 2016, 07:58 PM

I think she filmed it last week so we'll probably get it in a couple of weeks time! biggrin.gif

This has now been deleted from Haiz and released as a single. I presume this is whats going to push her globally?

Posted by: Rob Sep 19 2016, 09:31 PM

Any word on when the video is coming? I'm not a big fan of the song but think she has major potential and anything that will help Love Yourself get more exposure isn't a bad thing.

It must be imminent, they would have definitely finished editing by now. I guess they are just trying to time it perfectly, I wouldn't be shocked to see it released this Friday which will time perfectly with Starving breaking into the US iTunes top 10 (and also battling for #1 in Australia and New Zealand although that won't be a priority). Definitely before the end of the month by any means, otherwise I'd be super shocked.

The way this has slowly risen to success has been quite something, and it really looks like it could become a worldwide top 10 and launch Hailee into major pop girl territory. Hopefully they have another single prepared for Q1 2017 and a further single for summer 2017 along with a full-length album - surely they can do a 'Title' at least and just have all the EP tracks, Starving and then 5 or 6 other songs. Then she'll have Pitch Perfect 3 in Q4 2017 so it'll all fit very nicely - if she becomes as popular as she has the potential to be over the next year, hopefully they'll let her sing the main soundtrack song rather than get someone else to cover it like they did with Jessie J as she'll have the star power herself.

Unbelievable to think this was released on the mega mid-July Friday alongside Katy Perry's Rise and Britney's Make Me. I said at the time in a random conversation "imagine if Hailee ends up being the biggest hit of the three" and I can't quite believe it looks like she is going to actually have the biggest hit of the three!

The thing is, the difference between PP2 and 3 is that Hailee wasn't even marketed as a pop star when #2 was released (hell, "Love Myself" wasn't even released then), and only when it came out was there a demand for solo Hailee material (kinda like Anna's rendition of the cup song leading to stuff like Into The Woods). Now with her becoming more established in the business, especially with "Starving" becoming this sleeper hit, I can see the movie producers sliding Hailee into the soundtrack (since most of it will be her + others anyway, spoilers if you haven't seen the ending yet). I think this might be a discussion for another time.

I see this peaking around mid-November with a follow-up in the works for a January release, which will probably lead to a spring album debut. She might work with Grey again idk.

She has come on so much as a performer just in the space of 3 singles, loving the slickness of this performance and great to see Hailee doing some choreo!

Video is out!

Not massive on the video but this song is brilliant, it's much better than the overrated 'Love Myself' imo, quite a cute song despite the suggestive lyrics laugh.gif I'm glad it's shaping up to be a hit for her wub.gif

Posted by: Jack Sep 27 2016, 10:35 AM

I really don't get why this is doing things for her when Love Myself should have been her huge hit sad.gif This is average at best imo.

Posted by: Cameron Sep 27 2016, 11:52 AM

Fantastic to see it finally having a video! I hope this songs success will mean that Love Myself could possibly get a worldwide push like Lush Life did.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 27 2016, 12:28 PM

Love Myself and Starving are both amazing. End of.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 27 2016, 12:31 PM

I really think 'Rock Bottom' is better than both, although it is a bit of an 'I Knew You Were Trouble' rip off.

Posted by: Cameron Sep 27 2016, 01:21 PM

All 3 of her singles are at least 10/10 moments

Posted by: LINDSΞY Sep 27 2016, 02:07 PM

i really like this

Posted by: leewallace Sep 27 2016, 02:09 PM

She's so beautiful.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 27 2016, 03:35 PM

Agreed with Aly. 'Rock Bottom' > 'Love Myself' > This, but all three are great and it's good that she's getting recognition now. Surprised (but pleased) it's been such a big streaming force in the UK though!

Posted by: JosephStyles Sep 27 2016, 03:54 PM

1. Starving
2. Love Myself
3. Rock Bottom

All are really quite good though, I didn't show Rock Bottom nearly enough attention at the time!

Posted by: RobBob Sep 30 2016, 01:35 PM

This has really wormed it's way into my affections. Not in the least bit surprised it's shaping up to big, it could easily be a new Chainsmokers track, very on trend. Yeah, I do probably prefer Love Myself but they're two totally different approaches, both of which have been successful in trying to achieve the sound they were going for.

Posted by: Addy K!ng Oct 4 2016, 04:13 AM

I heard the other day on radio...I actually thought it was Chainsmokers :hehe:

Serving top level pop girl with this medley! *.*
