Thought Senorita would have been top 10 considering how huge its been this summer!

Posted by: Bré 2nd October 2019, 06:27 PM

It just hasn't been out long enough, these lists are extremely biased to earlier releases.

Posted by: Jade 2nd October 2019, 06:38 PM

I hope '7 rings' can hold on until the end of the year! 'no tears left to cry' scraped 10th last year so it'd be cool for her to have another EOY top 10 song.

'Wow.' does not feel that big at all to me laugh.gif but yeah, early release bias of course.

Yeh true, I imagine by December Ladbroke Grove/Senorita/TMBTL/3 Nights and others will be challenging.

What an awful list in general. Most of the ones I like are from last year.

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd October 2019, 09:55 PM

Lol at Shotgun nearly in the Top 10.

Posted by: jszmiles 2nd October 2019, 10:22 PM

it's a bit strange that Ed Sheeran's London is that low. I thought x-weeks @ #1 would fit top 20 at least.

Spending a long time at number 1 is irrelevant these days. Rockabye by Clean Bandit had 8 weeks at the top in 2016 (and a 9th in 2017) and didn't even make the YE Top 30.

The reason is the same as what bre said for senorita

The changed nature of the singles market these days means that any track released after the middle of the year doesn't really stand a chance of ending up as the top track of the year. And it would also struggle to get inside the end of year top 10 as all of the tracks in the above YTD list have passed 900,000 sales this year.

Posted by: SKOB 3rd October 2019, 12:02 AM

Woo Shallow top 20, even though it won't stay there.

I only like the ones above, what a terrible list!

Posted by: 365 3rd October 2019, 09:18 AM

It'd be nice if they did the list with just this year's releases on there. Also, the list feels very Q1 orientated.

Posted by: jimwatts 3rd October 2019, 11:51 AM

^ That would defeat the object of the list, if you start excluding songs like Sweet But Psycho, and it'd still be Q1 oriented. It's just the reality of the streaming era that songs have a longer tail in their consumption than before. ACR masks this a bit in the weekly charts but doesn't apply here.

Posted by: SKOB 3rd October 2019, 12:34 PM

It's only logical that now when the availability isn't limited, there's nothing one can do about it and why should? If a song released in March is still popular in August, shouldn't it be doing well on countdown?

Posted by: davidas 3rd October 2019, 02:19 PM

Wow awful list!

I didn't say that it should be replaced in any way? I just said it would be nice to see a list of this year's releases?

Posted by: SKOB 5th October 2019, 10:02 AM

Then you can just take the older ones off from the list?

Fair enough, but do you then exclude Someone You Loved because it had a week in the Top 100 last year? It's a valid point, but unlike years ago we won't have a clear picture of the biggest sellers to be released in 2019 until long after the year's over.

Posted by: Frenchie 5th October 2019, 10:47 AM

Although it is nice to see which songs are doing best, it's doesn't really make sense as some have been out for much longer than others.
I think it would be interesting to see a YTD list a year on, to see how it would differ.

Posted by: Brit 6th October 2019, 12:51 PM

Does anyone know the total for liar?

Posted by: T Boy 6th October 2019, 06:14 PM

They’re just not interesting anymore. You look at an EOY year chart from any time before 2017 and it takes you right back to that year. Since then they’ve been a mess. I don’t think there’s any way to fix it.
