As always, as one Eurovision seasons ends, another one begins! The EBU and the Dutch Broadcasters confirmed at the end of "Europe Shine A Light" that Rotterdam will host the next Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in the spring of 2021. A Statement they released also said that there will be sufficient planning to ensure continuity of the event if the state of the COVID-19 pandemic is still an obstacle. So, come hell or high water, there will be some kind of Eurovision Song Contest (for grown ups Jahq x) in 2021. But, short of a miracle in the autumn there's likely going to still be some restrictions on Eurovision running as normal next year. Some options that may be considered include; - Hosting the event behind closed doors with no crowd/very limited press attendees - Having the performances take place remotely in TV studios in the participants own countries with Rotterdam hosting the intervals and voting - Delaying the contest to the summer/autumn to allow more time for a COVID-19 vaccine It's likely that they will trial whatever might need to happen in Spring 2021 on the Junior Eurovision in Warsaw this November - so in a dramatic turn of events it might actually be beneficial to watch it this year! And as much as it's very far away, COVID-19 is also likely to effect the 2021 National Finals in a major way through restrictions on holding the events themselves and formats being rested/restructured around the 2020 winners getting automatic passes to the NFs or tickets to Rotterdam. |

It may well be an issue next year, we just dont know, this year i actually thought they may have played the videos for each song or the version each country had live and play them back and then go ahead with the voting.

I think for next year all entrants should return. I think in terms of the Scandinavian national finals it would mean that they do not need to risk the health of the artists competing.
Worst case scenario they could start pre-recording 2 performances (1 SF and 1 Final) in March from a small venue with different acts each week and then broadcast them on the night? |

What national finals there are, because a lot of broadcasters are sticking behind their entrant. Definitely agreed it'd be good to avoid as many as possible national finals going ahead. Even Sweden has got to see the sense of not holding Melfest as normal next year.
(god yes, I might want to actually pay attention to how Junior Eurovision goes down, should it, for once in my life) |

From what I've read, it was largely a matter of insurance. If they held an event which was reasonably close to the original format, they wouldn't have been able to claim the costs of cancellation on the insurance (despite the fact that the venue had been converted to a temporary emergency hospital). By holding an event that was very different, they could say that the original event had been cancelled and make a valid insurance claim. Nest year's insurance policy will obviously be rather different. |

Think About Things charts are No.43, isn’t that the best showing for any Eurovision songs since 2015? Impressive considering the reduced exposure he had due to the show’s cancellation!
Also impressive is the official album charting at No.2 in the compilations chart. I could be wrong but I don’t recall any other year’s album ever getting this high

I've booked my hotel! (with free cancellation, obv.) I have been desperate to go back to Eurovision since Copenhagen in 2014; I thought 2020 was the year - perhaps 2021 will be instead.

As part of a 'one-year trial' to help make the contest COVID-secure and allow less people to travel as part of a delegation, pre-recorded backing vocals are being allowed next year!

Could be very interesting, while some countries will obviously use it to their advantage to make the live performance sound as close to the record as possible, others could experiment with distorted vocals or effects to make songs of the kind we’ve never heard in Eurovision before (at least, not well executed). I guess gospel choir backing tracks will be quite commonplace on big ballads too. |

I've booked my flights to/from Amsterdam already, using the EasyJet flight credit I got for my cancelled 2020 ones
 I'm not staying in accomodation this time as the hotel/hostel prices are a joke, so I'll arrive early in the morning and leave early in the next, there's 24 hour trains from Rotterdam back to the airport. In Kiev three years ago I only paid £6 a night - the cheapest options in Rotterdam are in the hundreds of pounds already!I didn't get a ticket for this year, but either I'll (somehow) get one next year, grab a Family Final one or just accept defeat and watch it in the Eurovision Village like many do

A full info graphic with scenarios for Plans A, B, C and D are in place to allow Eurovision 2021 to go ahead no matter what the situation is by Spring 2021. Plan A will basically only happen if and when an effective vaccine is found and approved which is a fools game to try and bet on when that will be available and plan D is being trialled in this November's Junior Eurovision. I expect option C is most likely at this point, B if we're lucky. I hope it won't be as bad as D next May.
There is just no chance of A, even if a vaccine was found that quickly it couldn't be distributed across every relevant party in time. |

It´ll officially be a small scale event presumably in Ahoy. Best case scenario: 6000 guests, 2000 per show. Worst case scenario: Artists won't even be in Rotterdam

This is only my second year of taking an interest in the national finals/internal selection phase. I have a question - does the EBU control the order and timing of national selection announcements? I ask because last year we had Latvia and Australia quite early on compared to this year.

It's up to the broadcasters, as long as they submit their entry to the EBU at the Heads of Delegations meeting in mid March. They don't have to publicly reveal their song at all until May if they wanted to but nobody has done yet and probably won't as you'd lose a lot of hype and promo.
