Moldova and Czech have been disappointing. Sugar needed frivolous, camp, ridiculous staging. Even the pink jackets are gone. Were they not aware that the video was part if of the appeal of the song?

I feel like Netherlands will do pretty well with the jury at least and will certainly avoid the bottom three. One of the most underrated songs of the year for me, it has a lot going for it, it’s quite anthemic and stirring lyrically and musically, and it’s quite out there for a host entry. They could have played it way safer with something more like the radio country-pop that they do so well, I think they could surprise - not to the extent of a top ten but like 13th-18th.

I just watched some clips from 1991 and it was.... a journey.
But yeah, surely they would do better now as the concept is probably stricker with its rules. |

Yes it is much stricter now and more people oversee the show so i don't think it could happen again, even though i was fairly young at the time i remember been so frustrated watching it, as the year before in Yugoslavia was hosted very well and was a very good show apart from Spain having to start again in the performance but outside that it was all plain sailing. But away from that i wouldn't be surprised if Italy won, they have had fairly good placings since they returned to the competition although i have to say ive never been a huge fan of their entries and this year is no different, i would be far happier to see Malta, Switzerland or France to win from the other favourites.

I would welcome any of those pre-contest faves to win - not a bad choice there and Malta and Iceland are due to have a victory... (and would be brilliant to see a Big 5 country win, it's been a decade)
