Ta! That was quick.

Do you think Darius will get the chance to do any interviews about his role I mean with tv over here
I was thinking today Ross King would be a good one for Day brake lol.
I know am getting a head of the game but I really want to see Darius on tv over here again lol

Posted by: Baytree 6th March 2012, 07:59 AM

You know our media. Nothing Darius does ever merits attention. Some people with no discernable talent can go shopping and get wall to wall coverage but Darius beats all comers in the toughest competitive season for actors in the most competitive city, Los Angeles, and only a couple of Scottish papers commented.

The Sun's already set the tone, reporting that he'd got a role in a US tv pilot, as if he was 3rd spear carrier from the right or some such.

Mind you, we haven't even added it to latest artist news on here, so maybe I shouldn't gripe.

The verry old Cilla Black show. Didn't mean that - I meant a very old clip from the 'Cilla Black show'

Posted by: prettyinpink 6th March 2012, 11:42 AM

I have added the news about B&B, it is pending -

Posted by: megham 6th March 2012, 01:31 PM

Darius said he'd know by May - has that changed?

Posted by: prettyinpink 6th March 2012, 04:42 PM

the news article was pending..its up now, May isnt too far away.....

Posted by: Baytree 7th March 2012, 11:42 AM

It gives me at least another 3 months to save up to see Darius on Broadway and of course see a bit of New York, a city I've never felt drawn to before. I could have dropped by en route to or from Florida and Ontario many, many times and didn't. Now I'm definitely planning a visit some time. Funny that!

Posted by: megham 7th March 2012, 01:19 PM

I wont be able to. I'll have to depend on the people who can

Nicer pic than some they've used.

I wonder when it was taken. The Maidstone jacket?

Posted by: Baytree 7th March 2012, 06:53 PM

What on earth is up with the eyesight of all those football fans who keep claiming Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks like Darius?

He's tall and has dark hair and that's as much of a resemblance as I can see.

And they claim that the ref should go to ........that famous optician advertised on the telly.

Posted by: prettyinpink 7th March 2012, 08:56 PM

I know, I actually tweeted that Darius looks nothing like him and is better looking..cant see any resemblance myself

I really like that pic as well, BT. He wore that jacket from 2005 to 2008. Not seen him in it since. It really suited him

I wonder if this pic might shed a little light. It's the one on his wiki page and compares a little to the dark ages when D had a mustache, goatee and ponytail. What do you think?

Nowhere near as handsome as D, but both look better without the facial fuzz IMO!

Posted by: prettyinpink 9th March 2012, 09:21 AM

lol, this is what I thought the comments were about, the bloke has a goatee and ponytail..there endeth the likeness.

Posted by: megham 9th March 2012, 11:32 AM

Only Darius still looked good with his

Posted by: Baytree 9th March 2012, 11:56 AM

He even looked good with the skinhead............once I got used to the shock BUT I shudder when I recall the blond highlights.

No, nae, never. NEVER go there again!

Picture please, I haven't seen him with blond highlights(that I'm aware of). Can't be worse than the ponytail look though, surely??? unsure.gif

Posted by: megham 9th March 2012, 01:53 PM

Oh yes it can. I didn't mind the pony tail. Charles and David both had far longer hair and Charles had a ponytail right until he had a job where the hair style would hold him back

Posted by: Baytree 9th March 2012, 02:30 PM

I used to have it on my photobucket. I'll see if it's still there.

Perez Hilton had a piece about male celebs with long hair, about 20 or so, and most just looked unkempt or even dirty with the exception of maybe Ashton K, Brad P and Johnny D

Posted by: prettyinpink 9th March 2012, 02:32 PM

I actually like the high lights..lol, perhaps I just see through the hairstyles .

Posted by: Baytree 9th March 2012, 02:45 PM

Sorry, BP. I must've culled that one.

Found the Milk Tray man.

Posted by: surrogatemum 9th March 2012, 04:15 PM

The blond high lights were bad but I disliked the skinhead more. Sue

The skinhead one isn't so good - Epsom 2003

Posted by: megham 9th March 2012, 08:33 PM

Shortly after he'd cut it all off he wouldn't take his baseball cap of saying that he's had a bad hair day - more like a no hair day. Seemed to take ages to grow back. I preferred it to the blonde bits. He has a nice shaped head.

Posted by: prettyinpink 10th March 2012, 10:44 AM

brings back memories, thats the thing with hair..it grows back, well hopefully it does

Posted by: megham 10th March 2012, 12:03 PM

The blonde streaks looked as though he was around when Jaqui had hers done and they used the left overs rendomly over his hair (I know it wasn't like that but that's what it looked like to me)

Posted by: B.P. 10th March 2012, 01:02 PM

Just seen the back cover of The Culture Magazine which comes with the Sunday Times and there is a full page advert for Andy Abraham's History of The Big Bands Tour. Big picture of Andy, all the dates, 22 in all, and a small picture of his album, book and DVD. When Darius did his tour we were desperate for publicity!! We were giving out our own flyers!! Sue

Posted by: megham 12th March 2012, 11:54 AM

It's good to see D classed as a legit performer and not lumped in as a celeb.

Posted by: megham 21st March 2012, 01:14 PM

Well, he is. He was good the first time in Chicago but it can't compare to how great it is now when he's in it. It lights up. I'm taking my sister-in-law to see it - such a shame Darius isn't in it then

Posted by: polly 22nd March 2012, 01:58 PM

Just watchin a programme about the x factor tour and marcus collins said hes good friends with D their always tweeting and he said D's goin to 1 of the shows in a few weeks. Nothin much but i just thought id post. smile.gif

Nice to know that - it'd mean that he's be in the UK. When's the tour? Isn't Darius filming 'til late April?

Posted by: polly 22nd March 2012, 09:40 PM

I think its just started and i think it runs 4 a while. I had a look on marcus collins twitter and i cudnt see darius on his. Ive not been hearin things wrong hav i confused.gif

Posted by: polly 22nd March 2012, 09:43 PM

Just looked tours only till middle april. Maybe i did hear wrong wishful thinkin maybe confused.gif

Posted by: megham 23rd March 2012, 09:53 AM

We'll probably never know. I wish they'd put things on their public twitter instead of their private ones when it's something like that

Posted by: Baytree 23rd March 2012, 11:30 AM

If the first schedule was right and assuming he wouldn't need to be available during post production, Darius could probably get back and catch one of the X factor tour shows, even if he was involved in scenes being filmed right up to the end on 5th April.

Posted by: megham 23rd March 2012, 12:40 PM

It'd be nice to know which schedule was right - not that I'm going to any of the tour dates

Posted by: Baytree 23rd March 2012, 02:26 PM

I hope Darius can grab a couple of weeks in the UK to see family and friends and maybe crack on with the album with Stuart in London, before he's tied down to more filming in Vancouver or his promised appearances as Billy in New York.

I think this year is the 15th anniversary of Chicago in the West End. I wonder if they'll do something like they did for the 10th and whether Darius will be involved again.

Posted by: megham 23rd March 2012, 03:36 PM

Before all this happened he was releasing a single in February, when this finishes, he couldn't release the single until he knows whether he has time to finish the album afterwards or not.

He said Gary Barlow had give him gud advice to enjoy it and D had been messaging him askin how its all going and D said hed b goin 2 a show in a few weeks and marcus is lookin forward 2 seein him. Manchester leg of tour was 25th February - virtually exactly when Darius was told he'd been cast as the beast. He perhaps thought he had a week or so's breathing space and hadn't realised they'd send him for fightology pre-pre-production.

Posted by: polly 25th March 2012, 05:21 PM

Posted by: Baytree 26th March 2012, 11:17 PM

So have they started filming the second series of SC?

Posted by: megham 27th March 2012, 07:35 AM

I don't think so yet. Apart from her schedule changing, I don't know anything

Posted by: Baytree 27th March 2012, 02:08 PM

Natasha wasn't in the last couple of episodes of SC which I saw.

I like it. It's held my attention, although it is somewhat light and obviously aimed at teens and twenties, like a watered down Charmed or Buffy.

I hope they get some time together in Vancouver. I wonder where the boys are. Do schools in California get an Easter recess like those here? Ours stop on Friday.

Not sure what to make of the Darius references here. Lukewarm?

You'd think they'd know by now that he sang HMBOMT in Popstars, since they kindly linked to it when GWTW folded and they were careful to add it to their news including their statement that he didn't exactly get rave reviews. I think our thread rather shows he did!

I got this through my email this mornin but didnt post it as its not very nice towards D. 1 bad audition in 12 years and thats all they remember nevermind all the great things hes done over those 12 years. really annoys me mad.gif

Posted by: megham 28th March 2012, 07:37 PM

I thought it was begrudged positive. People who don't win can also make it big. Is she going to manage through the negative and end up successful as Darius has? No idea really but I'd be amazed if she did - Darius us talented. Mind you, I thought so many in the final of that series were.

Posted by: Baytree 28th March 2012, 08:53 PM

Heat is still the horrible mag it became after Mark Frith left. That is a particularly nasty picture of Kitty and they've put their own spin on it saying she's stressed - how do they know?

I'm glad some of the comments pulled them up about it.

It's irrelevant what they write about Darius, even more when they drag his name into articles about reality TV shows he was never involved with.

He's proved himself as a versatile singer, a stage performer and now he's even landed one of the very few pilot acting leads given to unknown actors, in a drama in the US.

They're the ones who look out of touch with their supposed expert subject - entertainment.

Posted by: megham 28th March 2012, 09:57 PM

Trouble is, most people just don't know what Darius is doing these days. Then he gets the lead in a pilot that needs to be filmed at the same time his new releases are due out - AAAHHHGGGGGGG

Posted by: Baytree 29th March 2012, 12:52 AM

I'd say that was unfortunate, except that the things which seem to stop him putting out and promoting his music have on balance been opportunities which if passed over, might not have come again.

Sometimes when Darius has turned down something I thought would be perfect and so good for him to do then, it later transpires that if he'd done it, he'd have lost out on something even better.

I think he should always weigh up the pros and cons and then trust his intincts.

Whatever happens, we're a stage further on. Darius is actually happy cheer.gif with his new songs and his album. It's there, ready to go when he can fit it into his schedule.

Posted by: megham 29th March 2012, 08:43 AM

I was delighted he'd got the lead in this pilot. Booth always wanted to be an actor but wasn't allowed to - probably where Darius got the bug as he's always wanted to act as well. I just want everything but I'd chose the pilot over the music at this moment and really hope it gets taken up. THEN, 'd really like the music released, please.

Posted by: prettyinpink 29th March 2012, 10:25 AM

agreed,

Posted by: Baytree 30th March 2012, 02:00 PM

Paradise Lost was due to start filming in Australia but has now been put on hold due to budget and script concerns.

Darius wouldn't have been available for pilot season if he'd got that.

Posted by: megham 30th March 2012, 02:06 PM

Everything happens for a purpose - just not always one I'd want

Posted by: prettyinpink 30th March 2012, 04:03 PM

Posted by: megham 31st March 2012, 02:41 PM

It's not progress - you can't read all the posts on the same setting - it's a pain. Can't they understand that everyone's post is as important as anyone else's?

Posted by: Baytree 1st April 2012, 08:18 AM

Interesting. Now we know - the role which Darius read for in Paradise Lost was obviously Samael.

http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2012/02/09/recently-delayed-paradise-lost-adaption-now-scrapped-by-legendary-pictures

Samael, Lucifer's partisan who initially urges him to start the rebellion against God in Heaven.

Posted by: megham 1st April 2012, 12:07 PM

It was always going to go to a 'name'. It's so hard for people to get started. Which is why this pilot is so good. It may open doors to get him auditions that wouldn't have been opened before

Posted by: Baytree 1st April 2012, 01:41 PM

Like most of the other members of the cast, Rufus Sewell had worked with the director before ....in Dark City.

BUT what we can deduce is that it must have been a decent sized or challenging role, if someone with Rufus's experience wanted to do it.

Posted by: prettyinpink 1st April 2012, 03:36 PM

hope this pilot does ok and isnt hampered by special effect costs - a tweet the other day commented about the script being wonderful, but worried poor CGI? effects would spoil it. I took it to mean graphic created images? if it is set in a fantasy world

Posted by: megham 1st April 2012, 04:01 PM

That's the worry with all fantasy things. We'll just have to hope. Wouldn't it have been awful if Darius had been put up for PL, got the part and then we would have seen it fold. That would have been awful

Posted by: prettyinpink 1st April 2012, 04:34 PM

indeed, at least this will be a pilot episode..it would have been awful to be kept in limbo, missing this audition etc just to find that project shelved

Posted by: megham 1st April 2012, 08:54 PM

Still think that if they weren't looking for 'names' his audition was perfect for the part.

Posted by: surrogatemum 2nd April 2012, 05:51 PM

Nothing much just a small mention of D

Britain’s Got Talent: Simon Cowell Is So Frozen With Botox It’s Impossible To Read His Sarcasm

What was once a family freakshow has now descended into a series of grimly familiar clichés...

After another hour and a quarter of The Voice’s empathetic worthiness, I’m all set to catch up with Simon Cowell and his merry band of jeering gawkers. An hour of cruelty and eye-rolling is just what I need to get my mean on. Problem is, Britain’s Got Talent has become so contrived and predictable that it’s impossible to get a proper hit off its effortless spite. Sitting through tonight’s episode, I realised just how transparent the show’s rigidly deployed format actually is. The whole thing can be broken down into a series of grimly familiar clichés, so let’s make a list of what we can expect, based on tonight’s selection.

A redefinition of the word ‘talent’
The show might claim to be incontrovertible proof of Britain’s immense talent reserves, but the woeful selection of acts manages to contradict its title every three minutes. Even its hosts seem to be in on the joke, with AntorDec asking outright, “So, has Britain Got Talent?” In response, we get a sound-bite from a Pearly King who says, “Pickpockets and burglars. They’ve all got talent ain’t they?” Since this is all about as much fun as having your watch stolen, he may well have a point.

Patronising the old dears

There’s an extended scene at the start of tonight’s show, featuring a catheter (collective noun) of old dears, sitting in their anoraks. At first, I thought they were like my grandparents – “No, we won’t take it off, we’re not staying” – but it turns out they’re the first of tonight’s acts, and the coats are part of the joke. As The Zimmers shuffle onto the stage and fuss about who stands where, Simon rolls his eyes and mutters “Oh God, it’s going to be one of those days,” because he has as much contempt for the acts as he does for the audience. They start by murdering What The World Needs Now, and then whip off their coats to stick the knitting needle into Fight For Your Right. Both songs sound equally awful, like Harry Brown auditioning for Glee. The judges love it, but given that the whole point of the act is the mid-way surprise reveal, it’s hard to know what else they can do with it.

Dance troupes
Ever since Diversity beat Susan Boyle in the series three finale, every dance troupe in the country has attempted to make the Britain’s Got Talent stage their own. Unfortunately, they’re getting bigger and bigger, to the point that most of them look like a suburb that turned up in the same outfit. Tonight’s first act is Twisted Disco, who dance like they’re auditioning for Showgirls (the volcano routine) but look like Toto Coello – ask your Mum. Four Corners aren’t much better, with one girl and about 15 guys. She tells the judges “They’re all pretty much male except for me.” Some of them take exception to her denouncement of their masculinity, apart from the one who does a celebratory high-kick as they exit the stage after four yeses. Worst of the bunch is a group whose entire routine consists of simply walking from side-to-side, as if they’re just trying to stay upright on a choppy P&O crossing.

And her timing is so off it’s like the musical equivalent of that Two Ronnies Mastermind sketch

The serious musician
One guy comes on to do a working men’s club version of Ed Sheeran, and takes himself very seriously. Simon tells him, “You look like Mark Owen from Take That” to which he responds with “I don’t know who that is.” But his ‘I don’t do pop’ comment is entirely redundant. It’s Mark Owen. From Take That. It requires no further elaboration.

The ‘you’re what this show is all about’ moment
We get a very brief clip of Analiza Chingan, an attractive Chinese girl playing the violin in a provocative outfit. It’s all very Vanessa Mae, and Simon tells her “You’re super talented. And exactly what we should be looking for on this show.” Note the judicious use of the word ‘should’.

The ill-placed self-belief
Richard Bolongi wrote a song for his girlfriend, but his performance doesn’t really sell it. He complains that the microphone is making him sound weird, but it takes a special talent to sing one’s own composition out of tune. Richard tells us that, one day, the judges are all going to buy his record. Scoff all you like, but remember how we all once laughed at Darius Danesh?

Zipparah is another big believer in the power of self-confidence. We first meet him boring the arse off a girl in the holding room. She smiles politely, but she’s looking around to see if anyone else desperately needs a seat. He does a rap about losing his keys and his mobile phone, as #wheremekeys and #wheremephone helpfully pop up on the screen. It’s not enough that we’re given the opportunity to participate in these f***ing shows, now we’re being told what we should be talking about. Oddly, the judges loved him, so now the pressure’s on to write another song about an immutable human truth – maybe something about picking the wrong queue in the supermarket.

The pretty girl with a big voice
18 year-old Chelsea is here with her Nan, who looks exactly like an alternate reality version of Cher, where the Oscar-winning popstar developed an early phobia of surgery. Chelsea’s version of Purple Rain gets off to a slow start, prompting Simon to do that thing where he smirks with half his face; his way of saying “I’m not going to smile properly until she starts bellowing.” Which she does, right on cue. It’s loud, but not particularly tuneful. And her timing is so off it’s like the musical equivalent of that Two Ronnies Mastermind sketch, where Ronnie Barker gives the answers to the previous question. By the time the judges weigh in, it’s all getting very emotional. DecOrAnt gives Nan a tissue, but she’s not actually weeping, so she nods in gratitude and rams it up her nose.

The weirdo
On comes Mena Swift, a strange woman with bad hair and worse teeth who compares herself to “Nicole Sheerwinger.” Simon cuts her off before she sings, and so we never get to hear whether she’s any good. But given how the whole thing was set up for us to laugh at her, I think it’s safe to assume that Maria Callas wasn’t facing any stiff competition in the diva stakes.

The awful styling
Simon’s desperate to recapture that monumental Susan Boyle epiphany, so all the singers have been encouraged to take to the stage, dressed as if they spent the night before rifling through the bin bags outside Oxfam. That way, they can shuffle into the spotlight looking like hell, then blow everyone away with their immense vocal chops. Simon gets to do his surprised face, and everyone goes home happy.

The triumphant crescendo
The show ends with a sixteen year-old girl in a Wilma Flintstone dress and her dog Pudsey. The crowd goes wild, and Simon loves it. But his face is so frozen with Botox, it’s impossible to tell whether he’s being sarcastic.

Many people who never watched Popstars do not realise that it was a TV show and that's all. It was not like Pop idol or Popstars the Rivals with which they are familiar. It was a souped up documentary lifting the lid on the kind of auditions which go on behind closed doors every day.

To make it more entertainment worthy it was edited to provide high points and low points, huge emotions etc.

Others seem to think Darius only sang his instant new arrangement of HMBOMT, was bombed out and then came out with the "I WILL succeed" speech. Some of course think he sang it on Pop Idol.

The thing is that every time Darius succeeds, he gets bedazzled by the next mountain to climb and just has to have a go at it too.

Posted by: megham 9th April 2012, 08:51 PM

He does like challenges. I'm hoping the new music is with his group of musicians and not a huge band, He sings well in either case but I do like the more intimate grouping.

It's in July but I haven't heard or seen anything about Darius being there.

He likes to touch home base. We'll only hear about a gig once Darius has confirmed it. I doubt if he'll be able to confirm anything until he knows about BatB and/or Chicago.

Posted by: megham 30th April 2012, 10:26 PM

I know he's hoping to come home. I don't know which I want to happen more - I'd like the pilot to be picked up but filming to be late enough for him to get to Glasgow

Posted by: Baytree 1st May 2012, 06:41 AM

If he's determined enough, he'll do it. He used to fly from London to LA and back, Sundays/Mondays during Chicago. Hopefully, he'll be able to do more than that.

Have you heard anything else about Darius working with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra?

Sony TV is also on Sky channel 157 and from the guide, it seems it's repeated on the same channel on Saturday at 6pm. This is the description

"Sam tries to secure a deal to raise money for the hotel, but things get complicated. Tony tries to help a teenager escape, and James learns humility from an older trainee."

Looks like vibrato's got mixed reviews this time from what ive seen on facebook. Some people saying D should stop doin jazz and go bk to what he used to do writing and singing his own music but some peolpe loved it. I agree in 1 way that D shud write and sing his own stuff after all that's why he turned down Simon Cowell's offer because he wanted to do his own stuff and not do any cover songs but on the other hand i think D should do whatever makes him happy and if jazz music is the way he wants to go then that's his choice and i'm sure that if that's the way the album turns out im sure the rest of us will love it. Remember do what makes u truely happy Darius biggrin.gif

Posted by: Baytree 13th May 2012, 10:31 AM

I haven't seen any reviews, polly. Do you have links? All I've seen are comments from fans, some of whom want him to dump the jazz.

IMHO he seems to genuinely like the genre and he has invested a lot of emotion, time, energy and creativity into it. I would never suggest he should just scrap all that and turn the musical clock back to 2002 - 2005. That just isn't going to happen. He's ten years older and a family man whose base is now in LA.

If music is his priority, rather than MT or straight acting at the moment, than he must make the album the top priority and crack on with it and get it out. However, he shouldn't expect much to come of it.

He has chosen a genre which doesn't appeal to a lot of his fans, me included. I had to force myself to go to THOTBB in Glasgow.

How is he going to promote it? A quick charm offensive around the radio stations and a few short interviews on daytime TV just isn't going to cut it. He has been away from the UK music scene for a very long time.

He either has to put it out there and let what happens, happen or invest a lot of time in live promotion gigs and a lot of time and money to raise awareness pre-release.

The latter would probably mean him signing contracts and being "guided" by others. I'm not at all sure he'd want to put himself in that position again. I suppose it depends how high a priority being a singer-songwriter still is.

At least with the former course of action, there would be one Darius (Campbell) album available to purchase for any fans, old or new.

No sorry thats what i ment ive seen the comments on facebook about some fans wanting him 2 dump jazz

Posted by: Baytree 13th May 2012, 01:18 PM

Darius has enjoyed mixing it up and using his skills in so many ways, and doing it very well, so he's never going to please those fans who've tucked him into one labelled box of entertainment and want him to concentrate on that exclusively.

He won't, not yet, he's having too much fun. Why should he?

He's still pushing the envelope in both music and acting. He hasn't found the limit of his abilities yet.

Why should he go back and do something he's done before, unless there's something new and interesting to learn along the way or some personal attraction to a particular project? Money has never motivated him. He's done OK, doing it his own way.

Posted by: Sooz 14th May 2012, 02:03 PM

I believe some people are fans of Darius's earlier music alone, and some are fans of Darius himself, and are enjoying along with him, his journey into acting and musical theatre. For those who loved his earlier music as I did, we'll always want more of the same. Darius said at the beginning of his career that he seeks recognition for his music; there can be no better compliment than wanting more of his own unique music, sung and written in his own style.
Although I don't like jazz as much, I do appreciate he sings it very well. However I don't understand why someone with a passion for music would keep putting it on the back burner to pursue other things. Okay so maybe his passion for acting is just as strong and he doesn't want to let an opportunity pass by, but surely at some stage he will need to prioritise one over the other.
No one in the entertainment business can maintain a career without the public support so whilst I agree in some respects he must do what he pleases and make his own decisions; I also think he shouldn't be to self indulgent and he should pay some attention to the expectations of his fans!

Scottish Opera celebrates 50th anniversary

Scottish Opera celebrates 50th anniversary
Five facts about the company

1: Over its 50 years of existence, Scottish Opera has staged 223 new productions. Their furthest fl ung performance took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1970 – a four-night run of The Turn of the Screw directed by Anthony Besch.

2: Among the famous faces who have passed through Scottish Opera’s ranks are Billy Connolly, who had a speaking role in Die Fledermaus in 1979, Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli, who choreographed La Vie Parisienne, directed by Graham Vick for Scottish Opera in 1985, and reality TV star Darius Campbell, who appeared in the company’s production of Carmen at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.

3: Their department of props has lent a hand to many external productions. A Compare the Market TV ad, which showed meerkats fighting mongooses in a 19th century conflict, used prop weapons built in Glasgow, while actors in the film Neds attacked each other with silicon rubber and stage-safe weaponry provided by Scottish Opera including bricks and frying pans.

4: Their Five:15 – Operas Made in Scotland model for commissioning new opera has inspired similar programmes in Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and London.

5: The costumes for the 2009 production of Manon required 15,000 metres of thread, 380 litres of glue, 375 metres of gold braid, 250 metres of French lace, 150 pairs of shoes and 85 wigs for the 131 performers … and there were 126 pairs of dirty tights to wash each night.

Scottish Opera’s Tosca is staged at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre on Fri 25, Sun 27 & Thu 31 May and Sat 2 Jun before touring to Aberdeen.

It wasn't karaoke which went against it - no special effects either, just acting

Posted by: prettyinpink 6th June 2012, 12:43 PM

I thought it was pure class, the staging was great - - I would go see it again, I am so sad other lesser musicals seem to run and run..but thats supply and demand I suppose. Dumbed down musicals for the masses who want to sing along to a cobbled together sound track held together with a loose plot.

I hope it's to give us some positive news. Sue

Posted by: Baytree 8th June 2012, 01:09 AM

There is a list online of the Olympic torchbearers but it only includes the members of the public who were selected to carry it. It doesn't include any of the sportspeople or celebrities.

Producer Al is I believe a member of the Morning Crew on Radio 58FM in Dublin. It's quite possible that he would be involved.

I really do not see the point of randomly referring to Darius if he wasn't there. It's quite bizarre. He hasn't exactly been a regular visitor to ROI. His links are with Northern Ireland.

I don't think I'd like to be in Darius's shoes just now, deciding which path to take ........album, Broadway, acting.......

maybe he'll surprise us all by not doing any of them and doing something totally unexpected like, who knows? - Gilbert and Sullivan? a one man show (in Edinburgh)?

Posted by: B.P. 17th June 2012, 09:51 PM

Dangerous is growing on me, but this isn't the style of music I'd prefer D to be singing either sad.gif I'd sooner hear this than nothing though, so I'll wait and see what the album brings, if it EVER comes out! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: megham 17th June 2012, 09:55 PM

He has a lot recorded but I think he still wants to re record them.

Posted by: Baytree 17th June 2012, 10:24 PM

Wake me up when he re-records them in recognisable Darius style.

Posted by: Julia W 17th June 2012, 11:00 PM

Thanks Meg.....it's good to at least hear something new! 'Dangerous' is definitely my favourite of the three. I will always support Darius but this style of music is certainly not my favourite!! Hopefully the album will consist of a variety of styles!

mm, I dont mind listening to darius singing like that in Musicals etc..but if the album is all like that - I am not keen,it doesnt give me goosebumps or connect with me, I suppose Jazz, etc just isnt that type of Music, just sounds like Michael Buble sort of stuff..of course better voice - though Obviously I will buy any album Darius brings out- smile.gif

Oh Meg, that's not what I want to hear! I know it's selfish, but I want him over here doing something NOW. Also, what market is he aiming for with this music, I'm confused? Is it the American market? Sue

Posted by: megham 18th June 2012, 06:14 PM

The jazz is for the US I think but he has another style written as well - I haven't heard any yet - I wish I had.

Posted by: Baytree 18th June 2012, 08:48 PM

Some kind of internet poll thing which mentions Darius.

http://outlander.forumfree.it/?t=62007877

Just for fun, but he's obviously now considered a bona fide actor, given that he's included as a suggestion for the role of Roger
in the Outlander series (Books?) along with people like Henry Cavill, Eric Bana and Ian Somerhalder

Posted by: megham 19th June 2012, 09:05 AM

I think I saw something like this on facebook quite a while ago. Now that he has professional footage from B&B it should help him with auditions

Posted by: Baytree 19th June 2012, 09:56 AM

Also he's had some mixed martial arts training, worked green screen and in a mask - all new and transferable skills.

I'm sure he won't rush into anything. I'd like Darius to keep reading film and TV scripts, even if, for the moment, he decides to concentrate on his music.

Either he'll tell us when he's signed up for any project or producers etc. will. Either way, we wait.

Posted by: prettyinpink 19th June 2012, 10:00 AM

I am eager for him to concentrate on the musicals, acting..tbh, the new music isnt mind blowing for me, so it can wait, he can record a song or two inbetween and get it for download..

Posted by: megham 19th June 2012, 10:21 AM

I'm looking forward to a joyful song. I just want him to do what he wants to do and be as successful as he wants to be

Billy Ray Cyrus will play Billy Flynn in 'Chicago.'

Country singer/actor/celebrity dad Billy Ray Cyrus is poised to make his bow on the New York stage in the long-running revival of Chicago. From Nov. 5 through Dec. 23, Cyrus, 50, will join the cast as the suave, ethically challenged attorney Billy Flynn.

So is Darius isn't the nexst Billy Flynn - I hope he didn't leave it too long.

Posted by: Baytree 26th June 2012, 10:42 AM

It's a long way to November.

I don't see how Darius could have done it before now. He had to wait for the upfronts in May and until the next cast change.

Or are you thinking the current Billy has a contract until November?

Posted by: prettyinpink 26th June 2012, 12:05 PM

well if there is a chance to be missed..Darius will manage it - quite annoyed if he has missed the chance, but November is a way off ..we are in mid June and if the current Billy is contracted all trhough to N ov..he will be needing a few weeks holiday......

Posted by: megham 26th June 2012, 12:14 PM

I don't know when the current Billy is due to end. Darius is at Vibrato's early August. He usually does 6 -8weeks so he could fit it in . I don't know though. Usual for Darius, he doesn't seem to tell anyone until the contract is signed. It was the first day of rehearsals when he told us about Chicago here and we'd already found out about it then. He really definitely was looking forward to it

They talk about Beauty and the Beast as if it is a goer. Wish that were the case.

Posted by: megham 30th June 2012, 09:56 AM

It's things like that and the fact that they'd signed someone to do the music a few days before that confused me. Darius seems certain that it's been dropped and is disappointed but delighted with the experience.

Chicago's been a good earner for D and a great opportunity for us to see and meet him, and it is a shame it's to close in the uk. That being said, there's nothing to stop D appearing in another show to top up the coffers, and as wonderful as D is in Chicago, I'd much sooner see him in another show displaying his versatile talents! I guess we'll have to wait and see, now where have I heard that before rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

On 3rd July it was P & O's 175th Anniversary and they had a 'Grand Event' at Southampton to celebrate with all seven P & O ships in port together. After the celebrations the ships left in convoy, all setting out on different cruises and, according to a new Darius fan on Facebook Darius was cruising and performing on board the Ventura. She commented on how much she enjoyed his show last Wednesday and meeting him afterwards! He should be back on dry land now so... hopefully..... we might??? shortly get some news!!

This is about Taylor Ferguson's award. It mentions D

Success is Taylor made for Milngavie’s king crimper

MILNGAVIE’S oWN stylist to the stars Taylor Ferguson has been recognised for more than 50 years in the hairdressing profession at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Taylor scooped the Lifetime Achievement Award in the second Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards 2012 held in the Glasgow Crowne Plaza Hotel.

And another local lad, singer/actor Darius Campbell, sent a surprise video message of congratulations for Taylor’s appearance at the ceremony.

The awards recognised the best and most creative in the Scottish hairdressing and beauty therapy worlds.

Taylor has been in the hairdressing profession all his working life, having followed in the footsteps of his hairdresser mother Patricia.

Thirty-five years ago Taylor and his wife Anne set up their own salon in Glasgow’s Bath Street where they’ve established an enviable reputation in the business.

His work has taken him all over the world, participating in prestigious hair shows in London, New York, Hong Kong, Paris, Bangkok and Amsterdam.

He and Anne had been at the awards with members of the salon team and told the Herald: “Being recognised like this within a profession as vibrant as mine is always a humbling experience.

“I’ve always been focused on getting the job done and so these moments are very special.

“I work in what I’ve always believed to be the best job in the world and I get to meet great people every day.

“When I first started my career as a teenager I never imagined how wonderful a journey it would be.

“I’ve visited so many countries and taken part in a string of prestigious hair shows but the one thing I love more than anything is being with a client and being entrusted with cutting their hair.

“I’ll continue working hard and transforming clients with good hair makeovers for a long time yet.”

Darius sent his video message of congratulations from Toronto where he’s based. Taylor, right, said: “That was a complete surprise to me. They’d kept it all hush-hush. Darius has been a client and friend for years and it was very thoughtful of him to go to the bother of sending the video message.”

D just got a mention on the radio. It said theres loads of great artists out there that spend years writing their own material like Paul mcCartney, Gary Barlow and Darius Danesh. Danesh again but still its a mention. smile.gif

It's because he's determined to get the album out. At the moment he's recording so we wont hear much. We'll hear more when the album is finished and he books which ever gigs he's doing before the release.

Posted by: megham 27th November 2012, 10:09 PM

He's 14, my son was over 6ft by 13. He didn't grow much after that but you can't tell at this age where they'll stop. His mother's tall and his father iw as well, so he'll probably be at least 6'2". We'll have to wait and see.

I know my little cousin is 6'4 and he is 15 he had a. Foot injury recently which dr said could stop his growth lol I was like I think he will be fine am sure at 6'4

Found this in the daily Record today it has three photos of Darius two on his own, one of him with a Scotland football top one and one with Natasha

Darius Snaps up Scotland top for American Stepson: STARS & STRIPS

DARIUS Campbell loved his Scotland top so much he has just bought his American stepson the same one.
The chart-topping singer and stage star was just six when he was given his first kit.
Darius, 32 who stills plays football whenever he comes home to Glasgow, lives in the US with his wife, Canadian actress Natasha Henstridge, and her two sons.
He said: "my papa got me a Scotland football kit and I just remember whenever I put it on, I felt a great sense of pride.
" I loved to be part of something bigger and I think sport is a great way to connect with young people". " Tristan, my wife Natasha's elder son, has just taken up soccer at the age of 14 and we got him his first strip two weeks ago. We made sure it was a Scotland strip too".
Darius who works with various charities including clean water initiative Fresh2o, said of Kits for Kids:
" Its great project for kids who might not have the opportunity for their own kit"

I will try and scan the report to let you all see the pics smile.gif

Also found this from last weeks Sunday mail report about Onesie day

Hunky Darius Campbell, who’s about to produce his first feature film, had never been able to find a onesie to fit his 6ft 5in frame until we sent him a special one in just his size.

He said: “It’s either heaven or hell. I think I look like a cross between a prison convict, a criminal and a circus entertainer or a really exotic bumble bee.”

Glasgow-born singer Darius, married to Hollywood actress Natasha Henstridge, added: “I immediately wanted to put my feet up and watch TV. I just wanted to have Bruno Mars’s Lazy Song on and chill out all day. Natasha can’t wait to borrow it.”

Thanks, Polly. Nice titfer for a really nice guy.

An illustration of the man, posted in digitalspy thread about nice and not so nice celebs

I work in radio so have been very fortunate to meet a lot of music and showbiz types over the years. The vast majority are lovely and I have had some wonderful times, being lucky.

One person who really sticks in my mind is Darius. Back in about 2003 we had a complete re-furb of the studios and station so we asked Darius to come and perform for some invited clients, listeners and Asda Heroes. Now the Asda Heroes were children of courage and part of a charity campaign they were doing. Anyway, at the end of the set he gave his towel to a disabled girl in a wheelchair and had a good chat with her.

About 6 months later we were hosting the Smash Hits Tour at the Sheffield Arena and Darius was on the bill. We went down on a mini bus, again with some of the Asda Heroes, including this girl. She pulled me to one side and said "Darren when Darius gave me his towel he told me he liked my bracelet ( it was in the style of a bike chain ) so would you give it to him when you see him backstage please ?" I did and he was as charming as ever. He told me to thank her. A month or so later he was pictured in Heat Magazine wearing said bracelet. I just thought that was pure class. Apparently the girl was really made up. What a touch

I don't think I've posted this link before to an article about actors overcoming interruptions or other hitches.

Darius gets a mention for handling unusual circumstances in Gone With The Wind. Some of you will remember it clearly because you were there right at the edge of that round stage.

The first time I went, I couldn't get over how close the audience was to the actors.

Oops, it would be better with the link?

I've just watched the video of All You Need Is Love (no.32) from the Beatles tribute, not the one where Darius escorts Dame Shirley Bassey on to the stage - the one before that which is just the orchestra and chorus - and there's a really funny moment when Darius has to chase after the conductor and call him back to present him with flowers. I'm still laughing.

I think Darius' new site may be tied to the music and the theatre has a different management. I hope this doesn't delay his new site starting

Posted by: Baytree 22nd July 2013, 09:58 AM

It is so frustrating. Everyone else seems to have their best chances come along one at a time and that creates career momentum but for Darius, it's feast or famine and he has to sacrifice fantastic opportunities he's been working towards for even better ones which just come out of the blue.

I really feel for Darius that these dream jobs sometimes do not turn out well and he's then back at square one. Gone With The Wind and Beauty and The Beast are two glaring examples - he lost film roles for the former and Broadway for the latter.

Now that he's moved back up the board as a co-film producer with an acting role and an album ready for release, bang!.....along comes From Here To Eternity.

Surely by the law of averages, the dice have to fall in his favour some time.

Maybe once FHTE is locked down and the press night is over, things will change re Darius's site and album.

Other MT stars seem to be able to bang out albums by the dozen, whether they're in current shows or not.

Posted by: SpamFritter 22nd July 2013, 08:47 PM

Very frustrating.

Posted by: Baytree 26th July 2013, 04:23 PM

I see the bookies have added Darius Danesh as a joke outsider to replace Sacha Baron Cohen on the biopic about Freddie Mercury.

IMHO the filmmakers could do far worse than choose Darius............. his height would be a problem but otherwise, I'd think Darius could make a very good fist of Freddie Mercury - he's got a great vocal range, he's charismatic, he can act and he's of Persian descent too.

Oh and he can grow a fine moustache very quickly.

You mean the Italian one he wrote and sang on Alan Titchmarsh's show? It was like a songwriting demo but I should think a lot of people would have missed it back then and might enjoy hearing something completely different from pop and swing.

The only youtube of it I can find is one posted by someone in the Far East. It tends to freeze and buffer. If you've got a better copy, I don't see why not.
You can always take it down again, if anyone e.g. Darius minds.

Could you maybe also add a link to the video of The Prayer for Haiti which he took part in on the Sunday after winning the show. I think it's one of the most beautiful charity singles ever put together and it should have been released on CD and/or put on i-tunes instead of the deal with the Sunday Mail.

I wonder what Darius will choose/be given. I don't recall him ever singing an ALW song.

Posted by: prettyinpink 13th August 2013, 10:17 AM

yes, BT, I noticed that - really wondering what Darius will sing.

Posted by: Manuel Marino 13th August 2013, 10:31 AM

the most crazy and funny performance from Darius is a live show when he was singing Mr. Saxobeat and putting some italian words here and there.

Posted by: polly 13th August 2013, 11:57 AM

unfortunatly too far for me to get to. I was hoping some1 would be able to get some video of D. Would of been nice to hear D singing 1 of his own songs maybe something new.

Posted by: prettyinpink 13th August 2013, 12:22 PM

I love the way Darius mashes it up when doing some live performances, and nails real classics in others. one event he is singing I can move like Jagger, the next, From Russia with Love, another his own work- that is what I love about seeing him, he has it all covered tbh.

The Italian words here and there were the verses and chorus of a Neapolitan song Tu Vao 'Fa L'Americano which means something like You wanna be an American and so there are English words every so often in the Italian song.

So I'd say it was the other way round - Tu vuo etc with a bit of Mr Saxobeat thrown into the mash-up.

yes, think you are right there, BT

Posted by: Baytree 14th August 2013, 09:41 AM

Ok. I give up.

What has ALW ever written for baritones, apart from the Elvis influenced Pharaoh's song from Joseph?

I hope we get to hear whatever it'll be.

Posted by: prettyinpink 14th August 2013, 04:24 PM

don't say that..I was working it out and thinking I hope it isn't that elvis pharaoh song!!

Posted by: megham 14th August 2013, 06:10 PM

Well, Darius doesn't HAVE to sing as a baritone - we've all heard his range before

Posted by: Baytree 15th August 2013, 08:06 AM

QUOTE(prettyinpink @ Aug 14 2013, 05:24 PM) *

I spent some time on youtube listening to the ALW stuff and unless my ears deceive me, heroes and villains seem to be tenors.

It's D's choice - sing something in his strongest register and lose the ringing top notes people expect when a tenor delivers the song or sing up his range without the power a tenor could deliver. Not all ALW songs are belters and some of the more emotional ones would be suitable for the latter treatment.

One I'd like to hear Darius sing as baritone is Love Changes Everything. There's a baritone version online from an American singer and it sounds fantastic.
Given his circumstances just now, it's maybe not one he'd choose.

Would he take a third more daring approach and do a "Sandy" with an ALW song?

Apparently ALW cut Il Divo out of one of the TV programmes to celebrate ALW's career because they muddled the lyrics of one of his songs.

Anyway, it's up to Darius to make the judgement and help to launch Beacon Arts, with all the future hopes and dreams of those who will use it, in style.

BTW I was delighted to see Peter Morrison on the poster. He's a living legend, one of Scotland's top tenors who dominated traditional Scottish music for many decades.

What a difference a few hours make. You'd hardly believe the guy in that video is the same as the suited, booted one on Breakfast today.

I want to say "bin the hat" but his hair's so very short just now, the weather's getting worse and the last thing FHTE needs is any of its principals to go down with anything, so on that basis, i'll put personal dislike aside.

Darius is hoping to fit in a gig for us before Christmas. He'll be singing old and new tracks. I hope he can 8 shows a week will tie him up pretty well. It'll be in Central London as transport is easy and it's easier to arrange while he's doing the show.

He knows it's not but it was the best he could do. Hopefully there will be more. I asked him to let Pat know what he wanted to do and the date he could arrange it for.

He's so thoughtful even to be thinking about doing it when he's so busy. Sue
