BuzzJack Music Forum _ Reality TV _ The Voice UK - Series 6

Posted by: lewistgreen Oct 20 2016, 11:54 AM

Not sure if there's a topic on this already, but thought I'd get one rolling seeing as the Blind Auditions launched this week in Manchester.

As we all know, The Voice UK makes its move from the BBC to ITV in 2017 with Series 6 looking like this so far:

Presenters: Emma Willis (main show), Cel Spellman (V Room/social media)
Judges: will.i.am, Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson, Gavin Rossdale

- As well as soloists and duos, trios are now going to be allowed to enter.
- If the judges don't press their buzzer to see the acts that they won't even get to see the acts at all (A feature I believe which has been carried over from other countries' shows).
- The winner will sign to label Polydor UK.

I've enjoyed the show since it started, but I'm hoping ITV revamp it somewhat to make it even more worth watching.

Posted by: HarryEzra Oct 20 2016, 12:33 PM

The new features are good ohmy.gif

Posted by: Joe. Oct 20 2016, 12:58 PM

Polydor UK! Who was it before?

Gavin Rossdale?

Posted by: Liаm Oct 20 2016, 01:24 PM

Lmao Gavin Rossdale. All he's ever done is given Gwen Stefani reason to moan about her divorce for column inches...

I think it was Sony before? Hopefully Polydor does better at marketing acts to make one of them a success rather rhan basically being a glorified entertainment karaoke show laugh.gif

Posted by: Karma Oct 20 2016, 03:14 PM

Jennifer Hudson would be my choice without question. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Joe. Oct 20 2016, 03:17 PM

I had a google of Gavin Rossdale to find out who he was and other once being with Gwen, i couldn't find much. Surely there's loads of people they could have gotten instead?

Gavin Rossdale?

Not the best replacement for Ricky, I would have preferred someone like Dave Stewart (Eurthymics)... and Tom Jones back ohmy.gif I was getting warm towards Boy George at the end of the last series, I would actually would have loved to see Kim Wilde replacing Boy George/Tom Jones.

Posted by: Joe. Oct 20 2016, 03:25 PM

Jennifer Hudson is a good one, but apart from will.i.am, who#s arguable, it's a shame they haven't got anyone who's doing well in the charts today.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Oct 20 2016, 03:52 PM

So the coaches are :-

An American;
Another American;
A Welsh singer who lives in the USA;
A British singer who is almost unknown in the UK, but who had some success in the US in the 1990s.

So much for The Voice UK.

Posted by: jase. Oct 20 2016, 07:28 PM

Haven't bothered with this for a few years now seeing as though the BBC didn't invest/gave zero f***s about their winners. Hopefully ITV will and I'm loving the new judging panel biggrin.gif

Posted by: Hypodermic Sally Oct 20 2016, 07:51 PM

Dream set of Judges would of been Paloma Faith and Will.I.Am carried on through still joined by James Blunt and Paul McCartney

Posted by: Liаm Oct 20 2016, 11:24 PM

Gavin Rossdale is definitely a pisstake, Bush had one top 10 in the 90s and their last album didn't chart at all... I mean surely it's a tad awkward if the winner outpeaked most of Bush's singles? And I can't see any of the acts really going "OH MY GOD GAVIN HAS TO BE MY MENTOR" either laugh.gif For the first series off the back of a really hyped move, they could have at least got someone who was big in the 90s or 00s, ideally someone who is big now but someone who was never big in the first place is a bit shit :/

Posted by: Burbe G Oct 21 2016, 03:43 PM

Yeah Gavin Rossdale is such a ridiculous choice. I'm glad they chose Jennifer Hudson though, she will be brilliant! I really thought they'd try to get Rita back and have two females or at least gone with Tom Odell who was rumoured not long ago.

Posted by: Froot. Oct 21 2016, 04:38 PM

I think only Willy Moon and Natalia Kills are more embarrassing picks for a TV show judging panel than Gavin Rossdale. They could literally have a potato as a judge and it would generate the same initial pre-show viewer interest as him and I doubt he's got an amazing personality that would make him a talking point when the show actually airs.

There's surely hundreds of acts who are both more successful than him and more entertaining that would be willing to do it? I'm really confused about how he got the job and who thought it was a good idea.

Even if he does prove to have an amazing personality, it will be too late for the blind auditions.

It sometimes seemed as if a lot of the contestants in the last series didn't pick Boy George because they didn't know who he was. At least that gereally only applied to the younger contestants. There is no generation for whom Gavin Wotsisname is a big name. Even people who vaguely remember Bush as a much-hyped act who were only successful in the USA probably couldn't name a single member. Come to that, I doubt many could name any of their songs.

It's coming!

Posted by: Jonjo Dec 7 2016, 09:49 PM

The amount of money they've put into this is already noticeable! Haha.

I'm incredibly excited tbh!

Posted by: J▲hq Dec 8 2016, 04:20 PM

Wow, this is dope laugh.gif!!

Pretty good teaser tbh

Posted by: DiamondHeart Dec 9 2016, 04:41 PM

Will.i.am, the return of Tom Jones and the addition of Jennifer Hudson seem like they work together and Jennifer is a great addition. It's a shame Ricky or Paloma didn't stay, would of worked far better as a more interesting set of Judges. I've never even heard of Gavin whatever his name is and by that trailer, he doesn't make me want to. Happy Emma is still presenting but I hope this series isn't a snooze fest like it's past season, I never seem to make it past the blind auditions.

Posted by: jase. Dec 30 2016, 07:59 PM

Of COURSE it clashes with BBC1's Taboo. UGH.

Starts tonight! dance.gif
Who will be watching?!

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 02:53 PM

I'll be watching!

I'm intrigued to see what ITV do with it and whether they can prevent it from being a complete blandfest that the BBC version turned into!

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 7 2017, 03:24 PM

I'll be watching and I put Taboo on record to watch later, its better than watching the new series with Gary Barlow, mind you I love to see Dannii Minogue she is one of the judges along with Martin Kemp and Gary Barlow himself.

Posted by: jase. Jan 7 2017, 04:23 PM

Gonna be watching this live! Really looking forward to it. I'm sure ITV will make the show a hell of a lot more interesting than the BBC ever did.

Posted by: T Boy Jan 7 2017, 06:07 PM

A colleague's son's girlfriend is on this tonight. How tenuous a link is that?

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 7 2017, 08:20 PM

They should have swapped Jennifer Hudson with Danni Minogue, I don't really like Jennifer Hudson. Tom Jones is is still irritating with his annoying catchphrase yaaah!!! I think this is the worst lineup, when was the last time Gavin Rosedale was in the charts, he doesn't fit in at all.

Posted by: Jade Jan 7 2017, 08:25 PM

That rendition of 'Dangerous Woman' was just painful

Posted by: Liаm Jan 7 2017, 08:26 PM

Dannii Minogue on a show called The Voice would be very ironic x Gavin Rossdale is the biggest barrel scrape ever though, I still can't get over that. Surely they could have got somebody from like a British band to do it?!

This girl was kinda bad laugh.gif She was alright in places but she couldn't hit the high notes in the verse and when the song built a bit she

Posted by: lewistgreen Jan 7 2017, 08:36 PM

Thought those lads just now have been the best so far. Really good Elvis cover there

Jennifer is definitely my fave Voice coach ever already, I LOVE her.

SAME, she's fantastic laugh.gif heart.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen Jan 7 2017, 09:00 PM

Now that they don't turn around it's actually quite brutal

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 7 2017, 09:05 PM

Only 1 decent act so far, the girl on Jennifer Hudson's team, I'm finding every act are just bland and boring.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 7 2017, 09:05 PM

I think I prefer them not turning around and speaking. There was never anything really worthy from those bits, just some bs about how amazing they are but if they were that amazing, you'd have turned?! laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 09:06 PM

The girl with the pink hair was very good and with the right coaching, she could've been pretty special. I feel that was a bit of a blunder on behalf of the judges tbh.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 7 2017, 09:10 PM

Good lord "Truly Scrumptious" was horrendous, she sounds like she's singing with all the male coaches' dicks in her mouth simultaneously laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. Jan 7 2017, 09:11 PM

Truly is by far the best tonight, something a little bit different!

Posted by: Mart!n Jan 7 2017, 09:13 PM

That was the best performance of the night, Truly was definitely scrumptious, so unique, her voice just draws you in.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 09:15 PM

Stupid name. Horrific voice.

It was very Lana Del Rey meets Florence for me, so pretty much my worst nightmare. puke.gif

Posted by: Liаm Jan 7 2017, 09:29 PM

Good god those last two were awful laugh.gif The first one moreso but the latter is so overrated by the coaches, he sounds like he needs a whole crateful of packets of Strepsils!

The talent level wasn't high but definitely an enjoyable show overall. I much prefer the pacing on general feel on ITV, there's not too much lingering on the coaches' pitches.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 09:45 PM

Agreed. Enjoyable and I'm sure there will be better talent as the shows progress.

I liked the last guy but he was definitely overrated. I still can't get over how my favourite of the night didn't even have one coach turn lmao.

Posted by: burbe Jan 7 2017, 10:26 PM

Jennifer Hudson heart.gif As expected she's the standout on the show! It feels more natural on ITV as well, as show like this never felt right on the BBC. I love the twist of them not turning round as well, it's so brutal.

Posted by: Cameron Jan 7 2017, 11:14 PM

Lmao, the new guy judge is going to end up with all the crap singers who he has to turn to in the end. I am not a fan at all, he is rather boring and really struggled during the coaches opening performance vocally.

Posted by: jase. Jan 7 2017, 11:14 PM

Truly was amazing wub.gif

J-Hud is AMAZING. Keep her forever.

Posted by: Kye Jan 8 2017, 12:01 AM

I really am struggling to see what the producers were thinking when they put Gavin on the panel.
He has absolutely no charisma, no star power and, in the grand scheme of 'celebrity', is an absolute mile behind the successes of the other 3 coaches.

Did you hear him in his pitches? His preaching to the audience about why he didn't turn around? He's lifeless, a total dud.. the production team must be bribing anyone that picks him.
It's a very good job that Jennifer is as fabulous as she is as otherwise the new additions would have been seriously lacking.

Posted by: jase. Jan 8 2017, 12:16 AM

Yeah Gavin's constant ramblings about him needing to be "transported to another place" became extremely obnoxious laugh.gif

I'd love to know what happened behind the scenes with ITV when they started talks about the new series. I just can not imagine them putting their heads together and having Gavin Rossdale on their wish list unsure.gif Literally, I only know him because of Gwen, and I use "knowing" very loosely.

Posted by: Davidson Jan 8 2017, 11:51 AM

I thought the first episode was actually great and much better than I was expecting.

JHud was an absolute breath of fresh air and the talent level was very impressive. Mo and Diamond especially were both fab,
Truly as well, although she is less my kind of thing.

Olympic long jumper Jasmine, wow amazing

Posted by: Count Olaf Jan 27 2017, 05:05 PM

Watched the first two episode but I'm not sure if I'm excited for the rest.

The results of the auditions seem to just be so random, mostly because the judges seem to only turn round if another one turns round. They've been some baffling turns imo and then some ones where I really would have expected them to turn but they didn't.

Posted by: Liаm Jan 27 2017, 05:51 PM

I missed the second one, I enjoy it enough when I don't find myself that spurred on to watch every episode. It's the sort of thing I will watch if I'm in, but if I am doing something and miss it I don't care enough to catch up laugh.gif

The last act was superb, looks like Gavin has got the best act of the series. She was just perfect. Lucky Gavin getting the last slot in his team, Will would have snapped her up if he had any places left.

Posted by: Bibia Be Ye Ye Mar 4 2017, 08:33 PM

I didn't realise the knockouts were happening live this year with a public vote ohmy.gif

Might be a change for the better!

Posted by: Mart!n Mar 4 2017, 09:02 PM

This must be the worst team along with Tom Jones category. I think the winner is going to come from Gavin's or Will's, and the more I think about it, the 16 year old girl in Gavin's team could go all the way, she is the best act I've heard so far. And the girl that wrote Will's track could be in with a shout.

Posted by: Davidson Mar 4 2017, 09:27 PM

Jamie stole the show. Such a surprise.

Posted by: dandy* Mar 4 2017, 09:57 PM

Me neither. At least the jazz singer offered something different.

Posted by: Davidson Mar 4 2017, 10:36 PM

I love Jack and completely agree with Jennifer's choice.

His nerves messed him up massively tonight but he has the most potential out of all of them, he has tone which you can't learn. Everything else can be worked on.

Posted by: HarryEzra Mar 4 2017, 10:53 PM

Jamie sounds really commerical I am so backing him!

Posted by: troylovesmusic Mar 5 2017, 12:45 PM

Just caught up from yesterday I'm really enjoying that the Knockouts are live this year ! I think the public picked the right two people to go through I think Jamie is a potential future pop star in the making and Mo's voice is something special . I didn't agree with Jennifer's pick it should have definitely been Georgie the guy she picked was probably the weakest of the night !

Posted by: Bibia Be Ye Ye Mar 5 2017, 12:57 PM

I enjoyed the new format, it's just a shame it was a fairly weak team. The public chose the strongest two definitely. Jennifer's choice is a bit odd given he wasn't great.

I don't think Team Tom is particularly strong either but at least J-Hud is performing her new single tonight biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Mar 5 2017, 08:54 PM

J-Hud's new single is really growing on me. She really is something special, vocally! We've had a lot of people requesting her debut album due to 'Spotlight' the other week. So I can only imagine what an actual performance of her bew single could do for her career here in the UK. Maybe a John Legend-esque sort of revival?

Posted by: HarryEzra Mar 6 2017, 01:58 AM

I think Into The Ark is my favourite by far right up my street!

Posted by: Adam Mar 6 2017, 03:59 AM

The nights definitely belonged to Jamie and Into The Ark.. both superb. Makes it a bit suss that they put them both on last though, ala BGT, I'd much prefer a random running order.

As for the others who got through, Mo was absolutely the right choice. I was surprised by Craig.. he is good and I like his tone but I just didn't think he'd get the votes.

Judges picks.. I don't think Nadine was as good as they gave her credit for and Jack was awful, though I have liked him previously so I'm not mad. I would have gone with Georgie on Saturday and Capital B last night though. Thought they were ace.

Posted by: Mart!n Mar 11 2017, 08:51 PM

Impressive start, much better than last week's editions, Tanya Lacey needs to collaborate with Clean Bandit, she must be a dead cert for the final. I know Gavin has 2 strong female singers as well. Actually Gavin has really grown on me over the past few weeks as a judge, I didn't even know he has a new single mellow.gif

Posted by: Harrier Mar 11 2017, 11:55 PM

Tanya Lacey was the only great pick to get through wtf were the public thinking with the other two

Posted by: Mart!n Mar 12 2017, 09:07 PM

That was tough... I think the right 3 went through, Max was amazing with the Arctic Monkeys track, Truly had a great track as well, Sarah is actually my favourite act from this group, I though the Whitney track was a bad choice for her, but she pulled it off, I was expecting more of a pop track from her though.

Posted by: Harrier Mar 12 2017, 10:03 PM

I am really glad Max got through the other two eh I didn't like if I am honest. I like Diamond and the last girl *.*

Posted by: Adam Mar 13 2017, 09:57 AM

Gavin's team was probably strongest yet and any number could have made it. I would have gone with Max, Truly and Keziah based on last night, but Sarah does have a nice voice.

The only one I can't fathom from Will's is Jason getting through, he absolutely ruined Into You. Michelle and Tanya were both great.

Of the final 12 I'm feeling
01. Jamie
02. Into The Ark
03. Max
04. Michelle
05. Mo
06. Tanya

Posted by: Klaus Mar 22 2017, 11:56 AM

Max is SUCH an annoying performer, I swear he's on drugs all of the time or something. Even when he's standing by the piano in rehearsals, he does those weird movements.

I'd like to see the winner be any out of Truly, Into the Ark, Jamie & Mo. I just know that it'll be like Jason who wins though, aka the one with least star potential laugh.gif

Posted by: Klaus Mar 26 2017, 11:31 PM

Wow, not only does Jennifer become the first female coach to get an act in the final since the rule change that disregarded the division of the coaches teams at the semi final stage, she has both her acts there. That means she'll get the highest postion for a female coach after both Jessie J and Kylie got fourth place with their acts! I think she has been a very worthwhile addition the the panel, she definitely knows what she's talking about and she's very keen to teach all the acts. While she's struggled to keep a presence in the charts, its still impressive that she managed to make a successful career out of being 7th place (?) in a similar singing show so she should hopefully be able to share a few tricks in that respect too.

Its a decent final line-up, but I would have loved to see Truly over Michelle. There's no denying Michelle's voice but it is very much seen it all before multiple times. The producers definitely knew what they were doing when they were deciding the running order, they thankfully threw Jason under the bus by him performing first. The final four performers were the ones who got through, definitely not a concidence laugh.gif

Posted by: Mart!n Apr 1 2017, 08:21 PM

I think Mo is going to win this tomorrow night. The other lad in J Hud's team is going tonight. I'm not fussed you wins it tomorrow night, my faves were Max and Truly. And the winner is not even going to release a single this year as reported in an OCC report.

The last note on Purple Rain was painful to listen to sleep.gif

Posted by: troylovesmusic Apr 1 2017, 10:24 PM

I'm torn between who I want to win more between Mo and Jamie . Jamie is a star and a future pop star in the making but I just love Mo's voice !

Posted by: Lieowstic Apr 2 2017, 04:04 AM

I don't like any of the final 3 from what I've seen oops laugh.gif I liked Michelle but she was just Leanne Mitchell part II success wise etc. :/

Also, there is indeed no winner's single but there is a winner's EP that is to be recorded in the weeks following the win, with a documentary about the winner following on ITV. I'm still not sure the winner doing anything chart wise that way, a few weeks is a lifetime in music and it's probably best to strike while the iron's hot. If they just tired harder with the single to be make it perfect for the act and pushed it, that would be perfect imo.

Posted by: Davidson Apr 2 2017, 06:56 PM

Perfect winner wub.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Apr 2 2017, 06:59 PM

I can't see Mo bucking the trend of flop winners really, he had an alright voice but I didn't find him all that special. Jamie and Into the Ark have more star quality in my eyes!

Posted by: ♀mdh♀ Apr 2 2017, 07:00 PM

Mo was a good winner - his Unsteady performance was absolutely incredible.

Posted by: Harry♀ Apr 2 2017, 07:10 PM

Lol at that winner I really cannot laugh.gif He had no star quality and was very boring.

Jamie and Into The Ark had way more star quality laugh.gif

I expected it though :/

Posted by: Mart!n Apr 2 2017, 07:20 PM

Out of those 3 last acts I was leaning towards Into The Ark, but as expected I knew Mo would clinch it with Into The Ark as runners-up.

And its been revealed the winners single Unsteady is available to buy and stream after midnight blink.gif

Jamie as the winner would have been the British answer to Justin Bieber, thank god that was averted.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Apr 2 2017, 07:45 PM

Glad Mo won I was torn for ages between him and Jamie but in end I think Mo just edged it for me. If Polydor get it right with him I could see him doing really well.

Posted by: Irn Broot Apr 2 2017, 11:37 PM

I don't think any of them had the star quality away from the performances but I think it was all there in the performances. Mo in particular was fab and the best for me on the night so I'm very pleased he won. He's so passionate when he's singing that he really makes himself stand out from the crowd and I do think he has a CHANCE, if he puts the effort in and the label also actually put the effort in (the change in record label makes me hopeful for this).

Into the Ark wouldn't do anything success wise I don't think, it's kind of like Joe and Jake (even though they were tarnished by the Eurovision label) and they'd also make similar music to the past two winners (Stevie and Kevin). Jamie would need to make himself stand out from the likes of Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Justin Bieber which obviously was the market he was aiming for, judging by his performances each week being songs by the same kind of people, but I don't think he would be special enough to do that.

Mo is definitely the best chance out of the four in the final due to his unique tone and the range of songs that he sang that were all made to feel very relevant to today's industry. I just won't get any hopes up of anything working out until he's scored a decent hit. The effort needs to be put in by both him and the label and the actual music needs to be good (all the songs from the winners so far have been TERRIBLE so its no wonder they've flopped so hard, with or without that crucial support).

Personally I think with the right material Jamie was the star. I almost thought he could tip over Mo and win it. In fact I hoped any of the other three finalists as I bet on them all laugh.gif
