Now it's a time for major female singer from 80s decade. I will post my Top 20 favourite Madonna singles list.

Looking forward to it!* I can see why you extended it from a Top 10 in your previous countdowns to a Top 20, but even that I would find a tremendous challenge!

*As long as it doesn't take as long to start as Johnkm's is. heehee.gif

Bubbling Under : Open Your Heart (1986)

# 4 in UK Singles Chart.

Posted by: Broken Heart 17th June 2015, 08:28 AM

# 20. Holiday (1983)

# 19. Secret (1994)

Posted by: Broken Heart 18th June 2015, 07:01 AM

Two most youngest singles from my list :

# 18. Nothing Fails (2003)

# 17. Love Profusion (2003)

Posted by: liamk97 18th June 2015, 03:27 PM

Interesting to see 'Love Profusion' here! Not many people like it at all and, even though I'm very fond of it, I wouldn't have ranked it anywhere near my Top 20.

'Nothing Fails' is a clear highlight on American Life, if not the highlight. I love its stripped back, guitar melody which is enhanced by the choir towards the end, although in a rather melancholy way - a stark contrast to its usage in 'Like a Prayer'.

Posted by: Regina 18th June 2015, 03:28 PM

I didn't imagine anything after the early 90's would pop up here.

"American Life" is only one her album, which I like from post-Evita period.

# 16. Like A Prayer (1989)

# 15. Another Suitcase In Another Hall (1997)

Posted by: slowdown73 19th June 2015, 10:55 AM

Frozen is one of my favourite Madonna singles. It's amazing.

Posted by: Acidburn 20th June 2015, 12:37 AM

Holiday = Love It, great choice.
Secret = It's okay, but wouldn't rank it this high.
Nothing Fails = Interesting choice.
Love Profusion = Awful, never liked this, even when I first had the album and as a single, it's just as awful and talk about a lazy music video, so boring.
Like A Prayer = YES, YES Great choice, love it and would definitely be in my all time faves.
Another Suitcase In Another Hall = Again another interesting choice, never hear this get mentioned a lot and often overlooked on the Evita era, but to be honest I do prefer this to the other Evita singles.

# 14. Angel (1985)

# 13. You Must Love Me (1996)

Posted by: Broken Heart 21st June 2015, 05:53 AM

# 12. Crazy For You (1985)

# 11. Burning Up (1983)

That's an interesting and certainly one-of-a-kind opinion, how come you only like that album from that period?

An appearance for 'You Must Love Me' is nice to see, perhaps my favourite out of the three Evita singles and her vocals on the S&S Tour slay pretty much all but the tour version of 'Lament'.

It's Alex, that's all you need to know.

# 10. Lucky Star (1983)

# 9. I'll Remember (1994)

Posted by: Acidburn 22nd June 2015, 07:30 PM

Angel = To be honest always found that the weakest of the Like A Virgin era singles.
You Must Love Me = An okay song, doesn't really do anything for me, in fact I never go back to the Evita era singles.
Crazy For You & Burning Up = Both amazing tracks, brilliant highlights of her early career.
Lucky Star = Always loved that video and song, both amazing
I'll Remember = Another great underrated classic.

# 8. Dress You Up (1985)

# 7. Borderline (1984)

Posted by: Broken Heart 23rd June 2015, 05:11 AM

# 6. Cherish (1989)

Posted by: Broken Heart 24th June 2015, 07:11 AM

# 5. Don't Cry For Me Argentina (1996)

# 4. Like A Virgin (1984)

Posted by: J▼hnkm 24th June 2015, 10:49 AM

To be fair, this ain't a bad list of songs. Obviously ignoring the likes of Erotica, Confessions (so far) and various others you're missing some of her best moments but bar Another Suitcase, these are all great songs.

Posted by: mr_aly 24th June 2015, 11:34 AM

'Cherish' is my favourite ever Madonna song. wub.gif

None of your Top 10 would appear in mine, but still some great tracks here - 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' particularly, which works great as a mix between a speech and song.

Yep! biggrin.gif I don't know if I could ever compile a list of favourite Madonna singles and be completely happy with it, but 'Hung Up', 'Sorry' and 'Ray of Light' would easily be Top 10.

My very predictable top 5 favourite albums :
1. Like A Virgin
2. Madonna
3. Something To Remember
4. Like A Prayer
5. True Blue

P.S. : I didn't heard "Rebel Heart"

Posted by: J▼hnkm 25th June 2015, 11:52 AM

Do you like any tracks on the new albums Alex? Other than Nothing Fails and Love Profusion obviously. There's some really good ballads scattered across the last 9 studio albums.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 25th June 2015, 11:52 AM

Actually, I'm surprised you don't like The Power of Good-Bye or Frozen.

From last singles I like "Masterpiece" and "Ghostown".
From post-Evita albums I have only "American Life" in my collection. I know well all singles, but can forget any album tracks, because I listen them only once or twice.

# 1. Material Girl (1985)

Thanks for all comments and yours interest in this countdown.

I finished five top singles countdowns for my favourites with artist forums on Buzzjack.
I can try to compile Kylie's Top 10 in future, but not very soon.

Posted by: liamk97 5th July 2015, 04:02 PM

Classic Madonna at #1, although not one that would appear in my Top 20, I don't think. Big yes to 'You'll See' though - as ever, a pretty much faultless ballad.

From your Top 5 albums, Like a Prayer would probably be in mine, along with Confessions, Ray of Light, Music and maybe American Life.
