okay but this thread taught me the word 'incumbent'. Hm. Feels like a word I should've known. #foreigner That's not what the word means in that context though! It's basically a synonym for 'current', or I guess 'most recent' in this case. The definition shown there would be if you said something like 'it is incumbent upon you to vote for my song'. x #educationalthread |

Well then, time to get this started...
01 RISER ◼ Jake Shimabukuro ‘The Greatest Day' QUOTE Why ‘The Greatest Day'? I discovered the song back in May I think, it was love on first listen and I decided shortly after that it'd be my next UP entry. It reminds me of a song I sent to Nuggets four years ago. This song is mellow enough that I had no expectation of it standing out or doing particularly well, but I think it's my first time sending an instrumental and it feels nice to know I've finally done that. I'm curious to find out who does like it, if anyone does! Votes 20 points - Elísabet ‘Heart Beats' 15 points - Thylacine ‘Versailles' 12 points - SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving' 10 points - 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ 08 points - Fiona Walden ‘Shoot Me Down' 07 points - Deja Blu 'Lake Song' 06 points - Uppermost 'Given by Nature' 05 points - Luttrell ‘Windowscene' 04 points - Faye Webster ‘She Won't Go Away' 03 points - Flunk ‘Queen of the Underground’ 02 points - Robots in Disguise ‘DIY’ 01 point - Mall Grab ‘Liverpool Street In the Rain' Riser starting us off with the first of maybe one or two instrumentals in the competition. A sweet little song, and certainly not something I expected. 'Heart Beats' has the dubious honour of being the default leader of the scoreboard — well done Elísabet. Can she keep it up? Songs will join the scoreboard when they have received at least one point — if they ever do. Scoreboard 01 20 Elísabet ‘Heart Beats' 02 15 Thylacine ‘Versailles' 03 12 SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving' 04 10 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ 05 08 Fiona Walden ‘Shoot Me Down' 06 07 Deja Blu 'Lake Song' 07 06 Uppermost 'Given By Nature' 08 05 Luttrell ‘Windowscene' 09 04 Faye Webster ‘She Won't Go Away' 10 03 Flunk ‘Queen Of The Underground’ 11 02 Robots in Disguise ‘DIY’ 12 01 Mall Grab ‘Liverpool Street In the Rain' |

'The Greatest Day' was an interesting choice and definitely not one I'd have pegged on Jordan! I said on plug that it kind of sounded like someone trying to play a post-rock song on a ukulele.

02 MATTIAS ◼ SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving'
QUOTE Why ‘Are You Leaving'? My entries in song contests tend to mostly just be songs I'm super into at the moment, and 'Are You Leaving' is no exception. There was something about that song (and video) when I found it that really made me take notice - I'm now regularly listening to the fantastic EP, called Do you mind EP. I just really love the atmosphere and production (and the flutes *.*) and thought it would make for an interesting, unique entry! I was really pleased with the plug reaction (I think dandy* said it could be the host's entry) so I'm curious to see what happens. Votes 20 ◼ Deja Blu 'Lake Song' - subtle dreamy trip-hop gorgeousness 15 ◼ American Football ‘Silhouettes' - a beautiful guitar-filled wall of sound 12 ◼ JeanGa & George 'Compromise' - a trip, love the piano riff 10 ◼ Sarathy Korwar ‘Bol (feat. Zia Ahmed & Aditya Prakash)’ - a mesmerizing experience 08 ◼ Liar ‘Benzolovers' - dark & cool 07 ◼ HVOB ‘Panama' - interesting sonic experience 06 ◼ 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ - i want to play that chinese instrument 05 ◼ Flunk ‘Queen of the Underground’ - sweet track from an old fave, love the way it builds 04 ◼ Mall Grab ‘Liverpool Street In the Rain' - solid electronic banger 03 ◼ Sophia Bel 'Time' - classy melancholia, a very pretty song 02 ◼ Toundra ‘Magreb' - 11 minute epic 01 ◼ Jake Shimabukuro ‘The Greatest Day' - such a sweet tune 'Are You Leaving' (paired with the video) feels quintessentially Unknown Pleasures. Female vocalist, dreamy synth-pop, that lo-fi video. And from Mattias? An unexpected choice. Scoreboard 01 27 Deja Blu 'Lake Song' 02 20 Elísabet ‘Heart Beats' 03 16 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ 04 15 Thylacine ‘Versailles' 05 15 American Football ‘Silhouettes' 06 12 JeanGa & George 'Compromise' 07 12 SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving' MATTIAS 08 10 Sarathy Korwar ‘Bol (feat. 03 BRÉ ◼ Thylacine ‘Versailles'
QUOTE Why ‘Versailles'? I usually tend to gravitate towards sending ~quirky~ instrumentals to UP (so apologies to those who aren't big fans of having lots of instrumentals in these contests) and this is pretty much just more of the same - I was particularly drawn to this one because of the pretty visuals in the music video recorded at the palace of Versailles, I believe the actual song was recorded there as well which is a cool little unique oddity ~ Votes 20 Liar - Benzolovers (this song slapped all of my orifices, winner pls) 15 Mall Grab - Liverpool Street In The Rain 12 HVOB - Panama 10 Prosumer and Murat Tepeli - Go Silla 08 SASSY 009 - Are You Leaving 07 9mm Parabellum Bullet - Heart Ni Hi Wo Tsukete 06 Turtle - Sun Quan The Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version) 05 Toundra - Magreb 04 Snapped Ankles - Tailpipe 03 Uppermost - Given By Nature 02 JeanGa And George - Compromise 01 Deja Blu - Lake Song Apologies to the following, this was a very strong edition and I'd have liked to vote for these as well: Jake Shimabukuro - The Greatest Day Sarathy Korwar - Bol (feat. Zia Ahmed and Aditya Prakash) Sophia Bel - Time Luttrell - Windowscene Flunk - Queen Of The Underground Well, you couldn't vote for those. Riser is fuming. Sorry~ Scoreboard 01 28 Deja Blu 'Lake Song' 02 28 Liar ‘Benzolovers' 03 22 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ 04 20 Mall Grab ‘Liverpool Street In the Rain' 05 20 SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving' MATTIAS 06 20 Elísabet ‘Heart Beats' 07 19 HVOB ‘Panama' 08 15 Thylacine ‘Versailles' BRÉ 09 15 American Football ‘Silhouettes' 10 14 JeanGa & George 'Compromise' 11 10 Prosumer & Murat Tepeli ‘Go Silla' 12 10 Sarathy Korwar ‘Bol (feat. I always underestimate how much everyone leaves these things to the last minute, really wasn't expecting my votes to be revealed this early!! Not complaining tho x (thanks Jordan for the 15 so far x)
This being revealed just as 'Versailles' has come on on a YT playlist I'm listening through oh my. Also sorry if anyone was expecting my song to be a cover of the iconic Rolloland BJSC entry. |
