Biography
Annie, Nadine and Frankee, aka M.O, filmed their first A64 session for the hugely influential online platform SBTV. Rather than do a straight cover of an R&B classic, they decided to do a unique re-imagining of Brandy & Monica's ‘The Boy Is Mine’, with a little help from UK rap upstart Lady Leshurr.
The performance went on to become SBTV's most viewed debut A64 ever, with over two hundred thousand views. With Twitter support from the likes of Ed Sheeran and K. Koke, and a roar of online buzz, you'd think most bands would start to rest on their laurels, but for M.O things had only just started.
A month later their debut single, the playfully aggressive, Show N Prove- produced banger ‘Wait Your Turn’ was premiered by tastemaker and DJ MistaJam (who said they were “the only girl group you need to worry about”) on his 1Xtra show, while the song's attitude-heavy video was later premiered by The Guardian.
Since then the girls have continued to steadily build an impressive reputation – becoming a mainstay on 1Xtra, a feat that's almost unheard of for a brand new UK girl band, as well as working with Black Butter Records producers such as WOZ (on street track ‘Come Let Me Show You’) and RackNRuin (the infectious ‘Ain't Got Time’). Parallel to this critical acclaim has been their desire to steadily build a solid, loyal fanbase as opposed to exploding out of the blocks and fading away just as fast.
For Annie, Nadine and Frankee.
M.O represents the second bite at the cherry, with all three girls having previous group experiences. - Facebook

Biography
Catherine "Kate" Bush, CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Her eclectic musical style and idiosyncratic vocal style have made her a notable performer in the United Kingdom.
In 1978, at the age of 19, Bush topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first woman to have a UK number one with a self-written song. She has since released ten albums, three of which topped the UK Albums Chart. She has had 25 UK Top 40 hit singles, including the Top 10 hits "Wuthering Heights", "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill" (as well as its 2012 remix), "Don't Give Up" (a duet with Peter Gabriel), and "King of the Mountain".
In 1987, she won a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, and in 2002, her song writing ability was recognised with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. During the course of her career, she has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards. After her 1979 tour – the only concert tour of her career before 2014 – Bush released the 1980 album Never for Ever, which made her the first British solo female artist to top the UK album charts and the first female artist ever to enter the album chart at Number 1. She is also the first (and to date only) female artist to have Top 5 albums in the UK charts in five successive decades.
Bush was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to music. She received the award from Queen Elizabeth II on 10 April 2013 at Windsor Castle. - Wikipedia

Still love Hideaway. Incredible track.
Glad Hideaway is still here, hope this means Riptide is out, getting a bit tired of the latter.

hideaway ~ still a jam
Yes Paloma.
Quite a stale start to the chart with two feisty female songs that I once adored but now I am rather tired of. Luckily, I'm a fan of Kiesza's follow-up (not so much 'Changing', though for Paloma. Granted, it isn't her track).
Shame 'Giant In My Heart' is looking to be out the Top 40 soon. I do prefer it to 'Hideaway' these days.

1 This Is How We Do (feat. Riff Raff)
Biography
A former Christian artist, Katy Perry rebranded herself as a larger-than-life pop star and rose to prominence during the summer of 2008. Before she topped the charts with songs like "I Kissed a Girl" and "California Gurls," though, she spent the better part of a decade recording music under a different name. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (or Katy Hudson, as she billed herself on her 2001 gospel album) was born on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. Raised in a religious household as the daughter of two pastors, she was forbidden to listen to secular bands as a child, although a childhood slumber party introduced her to the music of Alanis Morissette and Freddie Mercury. Religious music remained at the forefront, however, and Katy released a self-titled Christian album in 2001 under her original name. She would later abandon the genre (and her given surname) in favor of a pop career.
At age 17, she began working with hitmaker Glen Ballard, who had produced and co-written Alanis Morissette's chart-topping Jagged Little Pill in 1995. Several years later, she teamed up with the Matrix, a Grammy-nominated production/songwriting team whose résumé included collaborations with Avril Lavigne, Shakira, and Korn. Tired of producing music for other artists, the Matrix had plans to record an album of their own, with Perry serving as one of the group's two singers. The project was ultimately shelved, but not before Perry appeared in a 2004 write-up by Blender magazine, who hailed her as "the Next Big Thing!"
With the Matrix's unreleased album sitting in the vaults at Sony Records, Perry went back to the drawing board and began working on a solo album for Columbia. The project was eventually canceled, although two of its songs were later given to Kelly Clarkson, who scored a Top 40 hit with "I Do Not Hook Up" several years later. Perry (who, by this point, had shed her original surname due to its similarity to actress Kate Hudson) then signed with Capitol, who encouraged their new client to write her own music and helped establish her image as a boisterous, tongue-in-cheek pop star. Perry's debut single, "UR So Gay," generated a small buzz with its mischievous lyrics and clever music video, but it was "I Kissed a Girl" that proved to be her breakthrough hit, topping the charts in 20 countries and pushing its accompanying album, 2008's One of the Boys, into the Top Ten in America. Perry supported her debut by joining the Warped Tour that summer, where she toured alongside her boyfriend at the time, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. Meanwhile, "Hot N Cold" became her second multi-platinum hit, "Thinking of You" (one of the album's three songs written solely by Perry) cracked the Top 40, and "Waking Up in Vegas" cracked the Top Ten.
Such success meant that Katy Perry had officially become one of the industry's biggest pop stars, celebrated as much for her outsized behavior and outrageous fashion choices as the music itself. She continued touring through the summer of 2009 (albeit without McCoy, whose boyfriend status had been revoked earlier that year) and found time to tape an installment of MTV Unplugged, which was released in November. Meanwhile, she worked on a new album and started up a whirlwind romance with comedian Russell Brand, eventually becoming his fiancé. Recording sessions for her album wrapped up in early 2010, and Perry scored her second number one single with "California Gurls," which was released that May. The accompanying album, Teenage Dream, followed in August. The album would be reissued in 2012 as Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, with the bonus track "Wide Awake" earning Perry a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance. - iTunes

I love this is how we do as well
Bre-wol
He is missing all these ACTUALs.
Quite like 'This Is How We Do' but nowhere near her best
Wasn't expecting this to be Top 40 this week. Dreadful single choice though!
Katy top 40, I was not expecting that this week! I'm a little undecided on the track - the chorus is a bit of an earworm but the bridge is so lazy and the chants/bring the beat back is rather cringe. Quite cool production, though!
This is a pretty weak Perry track. Can't believe she didn't release Walking On Air, gem of a track completely overlooked!
Heard this the other day - abysmal!
So happy TIHWD has cracked the top 40. I hope R1 A-list it before dropping it as it seems to have a lot of momentum behind it at the moment, and maybe, if it's successful we might get another single (Legendary Lovers pls)
Hideaway getting that longevity
This Is How We Do
Christ on a bike, this track actually gets worse the longer it goes on.
Hmm, I'm not sure this really suits her at all - plus AlunaGeorge have a way, way better song of the same title (which would never do as well )
I am really bored of riptide now
Wish it was gone

Biography
Australian indie folk singer/songwriter Vance Joy began his career playing the Melbourne open-mike scene at the end of the 2000s while completing his law degree. Finding success with his intimate, Bon Iver-influenced songs, Joy decided to put law on hold and pursue a music career instead. Born James Keogh, the singer took the name Vance Joy from a character Peter Carey's novel Bliss in order to better separate his personal and professional life. As his reputation grew, he began working with a manager, booking bigger shows around town and eventually recorded his debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing. His catchy folk-pop single "Riptide" was an immediate success in Australia and eventually led him to sign a lengthy multi-album deal with Atlantic Records. In 2013, Joy began touring internationally and recording his first album for Atlantic. - iTunes

I am loving this recent re-emergence of 'Riptide', great little track with gorgeous lyrics.
All thanks to streaming to this being back in the Top40.

Biography
Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway smash Rent, singer/actress Idina Menzel made her solo debut in 1998 with the pop-soul effort Still I Can't Be Still. She joined the cast for Wicked in 2003 and appeared on the recording that same year, while 2004 saw her releasing the album Here. The following year, Menzel appeared on the soundtrack to the television show Desperate Housewives, and a duet with Ray Charles (which the pair had recorded back in 1998) found its way onto the tribute album Genius & Friends. In 2007, a dance version of Wicked's "Defying Gravity" became Menzel's first club hit. A year later she landed on the major label Warner Bros. and released a new album, I Stand. - iTunes

Idina's last week at last?
C'mon Idina just slip a few more places next week.
Loving "This Is How We Do" but I wish she'd hurry up and release "Walking On Air"!!!
As for Riptide, was good for all of about 5 minutes.
Starts out OK until the screeching.
I do have a soft spot for Let It Go, inevitable X Factor boost pending?
Approaching AUTUMN now and this is still here, imagine if it gets a huge boost from X Factor and overlaps into this Christmas
Last week top 40 (in this run) for Let It Go?!
"Let It Go"!!!!
I can't actually believe this has had 34 weeks in the top 40.
SLAY IDINA SLAY! I forgot this was still to come
idina STILL squealing~
Glad to see Let It Go being let go, although a part of me expects it to be covered on the X Factor either tonight or Saturday, so it might linger.
I'm all for Idina Menzel and Pharrell Williams doing well still with the inclusion of streaming, but does it have to be within the T40, urgh.
Have liked the majority of Katy Perry's singles actually, bar "Unconditionally", and this one is no exception. Hoping it can climb a bit more, but I'm impressed to see that all of KP's charting singles here in the UK have gone T40; don't think Rihanna and Lady Gaga have achieved that feat to my knowledge.

Biography
Favoring a naughty schoolboy look that makes him seem even younger than his already tender years (22 when his first major-label album was released), Scottish artist, producer, and remixer Calvin Harris has a similarly youthful and forward-looking approach to his music. Skipping the usual apprenticeship in the clubs or on indie labels, Harris went from posting his own D.I.Y. electroclash music online through MySpace and similar sites, to signing with the multinational giant EMI almost in a single step. A short time later, he was producing material for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, and Rihanna.
Born on January 17, 1984, in the southern Scotland city of Dumfries, Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999. Two of these songs, "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days," were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the artist name Stouffer. With that single to his credit, the still teenaged Harris moved from Scotland to London, but as a very small fish in one of the world's largest and most competitive ponds, Harris floundered; only one of his songs was released during his time in London, "Let Me Know" with vocalist Ayah on the Unabombers' 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2.
Returning home to Dumfries, Harris began posting homemade solo recordings to his MySpace page. An A&R representative from EMI liked what he heard and signed Harris to the label in 2006. Following a pair of successful singles, Harris released his debut album, I Created Disco, in the summer of 2007. It featured two Top Ten hits ("Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls"), and climbed high in the album charts. Along with his work as a solo artist, including touring in front of a full live band, Harris quickly became an in-demand remixer — working on singles by Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, All Saints, and CSS. He also wrote and produced songs for Kylie Minogue's 2007 comeback album, and collaborated with Dizzee Rascal on "Dance wiv Me," which reached number one in the U.K.
"I'm Not Alone," the first single from his second album, also hit number one upon release in April 2009, as did the album when it appeared that August. That album, Ready for the Weekend, topped the U.K. album chart and peaked at number 12 on Billboard's U.S. dance/electronic chart. Through 2011, Harris took on production work for Example, Tinchy Stryder, and Rihanna ("We Found Love," a quadruple-platinum hit in the U.S.), while he also issued two more of his own singles (the Kelis collaboration "Bounce" and "Feel So Close"). Harris' third solo album, 18 Months, was a collaboration-filled affair that featured "We Found Love" and "Bounce" plus vocal spots from Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, and Ne-Yo, among others. It was released in October of 2012. - iTunes

Still love 'Summer', but I wish he would hurry up and premier 'Blame'!!! I'm dying to hear it!
Summer is fantastic. One of his very best for me.
I find 'Summer' rather boring to be honest
Calvin Harris can do no wrong in my opinion.
summer
It's not quite the same listening to 'Summer' when there are only 3 days left of the summer holidays for me. Great tune though, definitely one of my favourites by him now.
Rather Be - the song that never gets old! (for me)
I still love rather be
I bet this year's X Factor winner covers Let It Go for the winning song.

Biography
Rather than the usual bombast or snooze-inducing "relaxation music," the U.K. six-piece known as Clean Bandit mash classical music and pop forms for an airy and dreamy yet driven sound that's like the chamber music version of house music. The core four-piece of the group were known as the Chatto Quartet, a classically trained string quartet that performed J.S. Bach and cited Jacqueline du Pré as an influence, but their post-show, wind-down music often consisted of garage, two-step, Craig David, and Arcade Fire tracks. The quartet members were aware of both producer Jon Wandeck and MC Ssegamic through the duo's work in photography, and when Wandeck suggested they play on one of his house music cuts, Clean Bandit were born. With MC Ssegamic on the mike, they released the classical-meets-house-meets-hip-hop-meets-heartbreak song "Telephone Banking" in the summer of 2011. Their Dance Armstrong mixtape followed in 2012, while 2013 saw the release of their Mozart's House EP. - iTunes

Biography
In one of the more unlikely crossover success stories, blonde Australian beauty Iggy Azalea (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) segued from a high-profile modeling career to become a southern hip-hop star. Influenced in her childhood by Missy Elliott, TLC, and Tupac Shaqur, she moved to the states in 2006 at age 16, stating that she was drawn to the birthplace of rap. Moving from Miami to Houston to Atlanta, she absorbed the Southern-style drawl of her surroundings and released a trap-inspired mixtape titled Ignorant Art in 2011, shortly after relocating to Los Angeles. A video for her song "Pu$$y" was uploaded to the internet and became a YouTube favorite due to its explicit nature. Around this time, Azalea's blossoming relationship with rising rapper A$AP Rocky earned her some headlines (she tattooed the title of his debut album on her knuckles), but her recording career stalled when plans to work with T.I. fell through due to label conflicts. In spring of 2012, she signed to Wilhelmina Models International and pursued modeling full-time, landing a job as the "New Face of Levi's Jeans." Later that year, her musical stock skyrocketed when XXL Magazine put her on the cover of their annual Top 10 Freshman issue, alongside Danny Brown, Roscoe Dash, and French Montana. As the first female, non-American rapper to make the list, serious hip-hop fans took notice, including Diplo, who hooked up with Azalea for her follow-up mixtape, TrapGold, before she signed to Mercury Records for her official 2013 debut The New Classic. - iTunes

Fancy
This is such an amazing song still and one of the best this year. I think it's becoming very likely that this will become my 10th million seller in my personal chart in the next few weeks
Fancy is excellent! Sounds even better in the clubs too.
I'm tiring of 'Fancy' now but at least I've finally managed to master the rap

Oh no! 'Right Here' will be out of the Top 40 before 'Rather Be' by the looks of it.
I see I haven't really missed much of note yet (apart from TWO actuals in the space of 15 minutes? Both has been safely added to the Hall of ACTUAL Fame don't worry )

Right here is another song I adore and love. Probably in my top 5 dance songs this year
Also my personal chart is really similar to the official chart this week- right here, fancy, let it go, this is how we do and only love can hurt like this are all in both

Biography
Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as a drummer, backing vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, completing the line-up. Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed themselves "Coldplay" in 1998, before recording and releasing three EPs; Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999 and The Blue Room in the same year. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.
They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year, Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), was released to critical acclaim and won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. They have also come top of the BBC Radio 2 poll of the favourite album of all time. Their next release, X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release, though some critics felt that it was inferior to its predecessor. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely positive reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins at the 51st Grammy Awards. On 24 October 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which received mixed to positive reviews, topped the charts in over 34 countries, and was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011.
The band has won a number of music awards throughout their career, including eight Brit Awards—winning Best British Group three times, five MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards from twenty five nominations. Coldplay have sold more than 60 million records worldwide. In December 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the fourth-best artist of the 2000s.
Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, The Secret Policeman's Ball, and the Teenage Cancer Trust. - Wikipedia

'Happy' still top 30! I wonder if X Factor can keep it in a bit and then it can return on giftcard week...
(Shame 'Come Get It Bae' hasn't done anything also, I guess any follow-ups will be overshadowed)
Half the chart weeks for Happy so far were in the top 10!

Biography
The work of rapper and producer will.i.am helped make Black Eyed Peas one of the most intriguing acts in hip-hop, and later made them one of the most popular acts on the charts when the albums Elephunk (2003) and Monkey Business (2005) started ascending the charts. During 2005-2007, he also helmed tracks for Pussycat Dolls, John Legend, bandmate Fergie, the Game, Ciara, Nicole Scherzinger, and Macy Gray. His solo career consisted of a project for the British rap label BBE (Lost Change), several mix albums, and in 2007, his major-label nod, Songs About Girls. It wasn't until 2013's guest-heavy #willpower that the pop star would release a solo outing again, this time enlisting an all-star list of collaborators including everyone from Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus to Juicy J. - iTunes

I have kinda grown to love It's My Birthday! So damn catchy
Turned the charts off for 3 minutes now. I need to record x-factor and this terrible will.i.am song gives me a chance
Why couldn't it be the far superior in every way home having this success
Feelin' Myself was great but this is just poor by comparison.
Although, Cody Wise's vocals are horrible during the middle 8
Looks like this might spend longer in the top 10 than the rest of the top 40 for its run.
I love gecko. Another amazing song

'Gecko' - I forgot this was to come. Still sounds great!
'Gecko (Overdrive)' is among my top 5 dance tracks of the year, STILL not getting old whatsoever.
I've heard 'Happy' a lot more often than the Conor Maynard song, and I know which one I prefer.
gecko (overdrive) ~ love this song

What happened to Maynard after that track? Did he just give up on the era?
Wow at 'Classic' exceeding all expectations.
Classic is very underwhelming...
I think this will go down as one of those modern classics () that failed to get a high peak at the rate this is hanging around. Very smart move to feature on the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. advert!
MKTO seem to be one of the big beneficiaries of streaming, this song seems to be much higher on Spotify than it is on iTunes.

THAT FALL
Giant in my heart deserved and should have been a number 1 smash. It is such an amazing song. Arguably the best dance song this year
Giant In My Heart is outstanding. Shame about this run, just hasn't connected as well as Hideaway it seems.
Still can't get into 'Giant In My Heart'
Oh no at that fall for Keisza. It's too good to have such a short chart run.
SUCH a shame at the rate 'Giant In My Heart' is plummeting. SO good now it's had the chance to grow on me, I love her old school dance sound
Album soon please Kiesza?
Case of still being overshadowed by her big debut.
giant in my heart ~ awesome track that deserves far more longevity than it's getting

Biography
Cheryl Ann Fernandez-Versini (née Tweedy, formerly Cole; born 30 June 1983), known professionally as Cheryl Cole, is an English recording artist, songwriter, dancer, and television personality. She rose to fame in late 2002 when she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals on ITV. The programme announced that Cole had won a place as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud. The group's line-up remained the same throughout their history and during that time the group achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles in the United Kingdom (including four number one singles) and six platinum albums (two of which went to number one) and earned five BRIT Award nominations from 2005 to 2010. In 2009, Girls Aloud won "Best Single" with their song "The Promise". In early 2013, Girls Aloud announced that they had split up.
Cole embarked on a solo career and released her first solo studio album 3 Words (2009) through Polydor records. 3 Words saw the release of three successful singles and the lead single from the album, "Fight for This Love," debuted at number one on the UK charts, becoming the best selling single of the year. "3 Words" and "Parachute" both peaked within the top five of the UK charts. 2010 saw the release of Cole's second studio album Messy Little Raindrops, which produced two singles, the first being "Promise This" which went straight to number one. Cole released her third solo album A Million Lights on 18 June 2012, with lead single "Call My Name" being released on 11 June 2012, the single became Cole's third number one single. During her solo career, Cole has earned three BRIT Award nominations.
Cole has become a recognised and photographed style icon; referred to as a fashionista by the press. She has been photographed for the covers of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, while becoming the new face of cosmetic company L'Oréal. Cole was married to England footballer Ashley Cole from July 2006 until September 2010, when she divorced him following the announcement of their separation earlier that year. Cole became a judge on the UK version of The X Factor in 2008, becoming the winning judge twice out of the three series she judged. In 2011, Cole left the UK version of The X Factor to judge the American version. However, Cole was sacked from the show. Cole's net worth was estimated at £15 million in April 2012. On 10 March 2014, it was announced that Cole would return as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor for its eleventh series, signing a £1.5 million contract. - Wikipedia

Actress, singer, and dancer Ariana Grande is best known for portraying the character Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious. Born in 1993 in Boca Raton, Florida, Grande sang from a young age and by her teens had performed with several South Florida orchestral ensembles. She made her Broadway debut at age 15 in the role of Charlotte in the musical 13. She then appeared in the role of Miriam in Desmond Child's musical Cuba Libre. From 2010 to 2013, Grande portrayed the character of Cat Valentine on the high school-set Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious. Ari Top 20! Here's to much more success!
This is a fantastic track. So much better than Problem & with Zedd on production duties you can't really go wrong!
That single cover is all a bit like one of those for a Justin Bieber 'Journals' track, though.
urgh @ this overrated averageness. glad Grande (problem) is still ahead of Blande (break free) tho
Ariana & Zedd? wow, so early... btw, don't like their song. Too sweet for me.
Plain A4 paper dance track. Shame as Zedd seemed quite promising with Clarity but he's got worse since.

John Roger Stephens (born December 28, 1978), better known by his stage name John Legend, is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He has won nine Grammy Awards, and in 2007, Legend received the special Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Prior to the release of his debut album, Legend's career gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with multiple established artists. Legend added his voice to those of other artists, assisting in them reaching chart-topper hits. He lent his voice to Magnetic Man's "Getting Nowhere," Kanye West's "All of the Lights", on Slum Village's "Selfish" and Dilated Peoples' "This Way". Other artists included Jay-Z's "Encore", and he sang backing vocals on Alicia Keys' 2003 song "You Don't Know My Name", the Kanye West remix of Britney Spears' "Me Against the Music", and Fort Minor's "High Road". Legend played piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything". - Wikipedia

Never anticipated this success for this track. It's pleasant enough but not groundbreaking by any means...

'Break Free' sounded okay on first listen, a bit basic as expected but could be worse. I think I will stick with 'Problem' for the mean time in my Ari faves though

I don't really understand what's to like about 'Faded', same with 'My Head Is A Jungle' or whatever it's called.
Still obsessed with 'Faded'. Great to see it managing 5 weeks top 20.

Biography
Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

Biography
OneRepublic is an American pop rock band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Formed in 2002 by Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins, the band achieved commercial success on MySpace as an unsigned act. In 2003, the band was discovered by actress Kelly Barrett in Hollywood who connected them directly with her cousins Jimmy Ienner and Donnie Ienner, who was the President of Sony at that time, by making one phone call to get the AR Reps to their show. They then signed to Sony BMG for three years, before moving to Mosley Music Group.
In 2007, OneRepublic released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single, "Apologize" was notably remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching number one in sixteen countries, subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination. The second single, "Stop and Stare" mirrored its predecessor's success. The album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Waking Up (2009), produced the successful singles, "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marchin On", and "Good Life", the latter reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.
OneRepublic's third album, Native (2013), became the band's first top ten album on the Billboard 200, and highest charting album to date, charting at number four. The lead single, "If I Lose Myself" charted within the top ten in several countries, while the album's third single, "Counting Stars", became the band's most successful single in recent years, obtaining top five placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the U.S. and the UK. This marks their highest charting single in the United Kingdom to date. It has also peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, matching their highest peak of "Apologize" in 2007. - Wikipedia

Biography
British MC Lethal Bizzle's explicit lyrics of violence and street tales of East London drew reaction and controversy but also gave him immense popularity among followers of garage and grime in the 2000s. Attracted to the intense energy of raves at a young age, Lethal B (born Maxwell Ansah) loved the speed of drum'n'bass. Artists like Roni Size and Shy FX first inspired him to do music, but early-'90s New York hip-hop also spoke to him — particularly the street lyricism of Nas and the Notorious B.I.G. and the hardcore dynamism of the Wu-Tang Clan. Success from roaming London's pirate radio scene prompted him to leave college and join the More Fire Crew with associates Ozzie B and Neeko. The threesome's first single, "Oi!," was a Top Ten hit in the U.K., but the label dropped them soon after in 2002, due to lacking album sales.
Although it took a few years, Bizzle got back on his feet, forming his own Lethal Bizzle Records imprint in 2004. At the end of the year, he released the comeback single "Pow! (Forward)," also known as "Forward Riddim." Produced by Dexplicit, it entered at 11 on the U.K. pop charts and earned him a MOBO award for Best Single (he was also nominated for Best Newcomer). The song, however, ended up being banned by many major radio outlets and clubs, where some patrons had broke out into fistfights during its playing. Bizzle's next set of singles, including "Uh Oh! (I'm Back)," also made it onto the U.K. charts and paved the way for his solo debut, Against All Oddz, released in mid-2005. Becoming one of the U.K.'s most popular underground artists, Bizzle took some of the brunt of growing backlash against grime music originating from some press and political pundits. He particularly was engaged in a verbal war with Conservative Party leader and MP David Cameron in 2006. Nevertheless, the rising grime MC was not phased. He simultaneously prepared two albums for 2007: his second LP, Back to Bizznizz, and the debut of his new duo, Fire Camp, with old partner Ozzie B. - iTunes

Thank God this vile song is not top 10!
I am so glad Lethal Bizzle missed the top 10
This song is horrible and terrible, it could contend for an easy my -1 for me on a rate (however all of me, rude and am I wrong possibly are all worse than this- actually am I wrong isn't and maybe the other two aren't this is even worse than I remember)
Is he saying "Dance Instructor" or "Denture Structure"?
This really is terminal! Thank the lord it missed the top 10.
Lethal Bizzle getting a second #11 hit nearly 10 years after his first Doing so much better than I expected, how unlucky for him to miss out top 10 twice over such a long time period though

Well look at that - his whip has now changed nationality! But aw shame at this getting to #11, his quest for chart success is rather endearing! Bizarre but amusing track, CERTAINLY unique compared to the rest of the chart.
*.* lethal bizzle slaying all your non-top10 faves~
rariworkout
Gosh this is dreadful!
I actually quite like this, and not even ironically. The chorus is strangely uplifting.
Yay at Sam Smith in the top 10!
Jeez.. this is awful
I'm surprised Lethal Bizzle did this well in the first place, this is his highest in almost a decade
It sounds a bit different from everything else in the charts right now so I don't really mind it
Disappointed Lethal Bizzle missed the top 10. I've really loved all of JME's 3 top 40's this year.
In the meantime Idina has rebounded to 38 on ITunes
Maybe we have another week
I actually quite liked 'German Whip' but there's something about Lethal Bizzle that just irritates me.
what was dat O.o

Love this Wanklemut track so happy this has got a second week top 10
Amazing track. Remix actually overwhelmingly improves it ...
Jameela just said "was taken from his album 'vs. Head vs. Heart'. That's Emma Louise's album
2 weeks in the top 10 for this amazing dance track. Totally deserved!
My Head Is A Jungle
I actually love 'RariWorkOut'. Such an energetic song and iconic lyric after iconic lyric (dench instructor *.*). Shame it couldn't go top 10 but #11 is great for a song of that genre - and Lethal seems to be getting bigger with every single now so hopefully next time! (Should be top 10 on sales too).
Wankelmut and The Prick bookending the top 10
('My Head Is A Jungle' getting a second week top 10 Thought it'd do a bit of a 'Giant In My Heart').
'My Head Is a Jungle' is quite good, but blends in a lot with some of the big dance tracks this year.
this mk remix of my head is a jungle is literally a bomb~
My Head Is A Jungle has THE most heavenly piano of the year (sry john legend ) , glad its stayed top 10.
Speaking of MK remixes, I finally heard the original original version of 'Push The Feeling On' by Nightcrawlers the other day. It's totally unrecogniseable from the remix that was actually a hit.
HEEEEEYYYYYY
MY HEAD IS A JUNGLE, JUNGLE
such an aaaaawful remix!
I'm Not The Only One is his best yet imo.

I really like I'm not the only one. It's a great song. Just missed out on my top 40 this week at 41

- iTunes

I'm probably on my own but I'm really bored of Sam Smith now...sick of hearing this on the radio now
A vast improvement on Stay With Me but that still just about scrapes average.
Ah, this is soothingly beautiful. Not a fan of his voice still but this and SWM work so well for what they are.
Sam Smith He's getting worse with each release imo!
I'm surprised Stay With Me's back in the top 10, what caused that boost?
Sam Smith He's getting worse with each release imo!
Diana in the video is absolutely stunning
Why follow up "Stay With Me" with a copy/paste song of it? Do his album's songs sound the same?

Got to go now
Hope shake it off goes top 3
Sam Smith He's getting worse with each release imo!
I'm glad Don't is doing well but I think it's peaked now which is sad because it deserves at least a #5 peak
Ed Sheeran is a boring singer trying to be interesting. Sam Smith is an interesting singer trying to be boring.
Sorry for the duplicate posts. My browsers been playing up.
Ed Sheeran is totally overplayed for me. Can't stand every song from Ed.
Down 1 at 2? Who's doing this album chart?
It's actually a non maker, he was #2 last week

Royal Blood
huge well done to Royal Blood, really exceeded my sales expectations for them <3
A bit upset Ariana missed out on #2 because the album is phenomenal but #3 is good too, an improvement on the last album.
Royal Blood's album is one of the best rock albums for a long time so I'm very happy with that result.

- iTunes

No idea who that guy doing the album chart was but he sounds like an arse.
Love a bit of Black Widow. It's All About That Bass.
'Black Widow' has grown on me this week.
Yay top 10 for BW!
I completely forgot about 'Black Widow' being this high! The VMAs helped it grow on me!
The verses in 'Black Widow' makes me cringe. The lyrics are so awful.
'Black Widow' continuing to grow on me, such a jam. Love Iggy to bits and Rita Ora really makes the song special!
Royal Blood have sold 66k according the the OC.
I hope the A-listing on R1 help Black Widow climb now, hope #7 isn't its peak now..

Love this song so much!
I'm getting abit board of 'Rude' already.
Painfully overexposed. Needs to disappear quickly.
Excuse me, we need Dan & Phil back pronto. That album chart reveal was depressingly bad.

Basement Jaxx outcharting their last album which actually had a (very good) hit single is quite surprising. Haven't heard anything from them this era.
Avenged Sevenfold's 2003 album finally makes the top 40 after a '10th anniversary' edition (which you may notice is actually out 11 years after the original). This is the first time it's even been top 100 hence its year being listed as 2014 in their chart history.
'Black Widow' has grown a load on me already. Really liking it now as much of a 'Dark Horse' ripoff as it is.

Biography
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of fourteen to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's eponymous debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. "Our Song", her third single, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 and was supported by an extensive concert tour. The record won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third album, 2010's Speak Now, sold over one million copies in its first week of US release and was supported by the Speak Now World Tour. The album's third single, "Mean", won two Grammy Awards. Swift's fourth album, Red, was released in 2012. Its opening US sales of 1.2 million were the highest recorded in a decade, with Swift becoming the only female artist to have two million-plus opening weeks. The singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. The Red Tour is visiting worldwide venues in 2013 and 2014.
Swift is known for her narrative songs about her experiences as a teenager and young adult. As a songwriter, she has been honored by the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Swift's other achievements include seven Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, eleven Country Music Association Awards and six Academy of Country Music Awards. She has sold over 26 million albums and 75 million digital single downloads worldwide. Forbes estimates that she is worth over $220 million. In addition to her music career, Swift has appeared as an actress in the ensemble comedy Valentine's Day (2010) and the animated film The Lorax (2012). As a philanthropist, Swift supports arts education, children's literacy, natural disaster relief, LGBT anti-discrimination efforts, and charities for sick children. - Wikipedia

Taylor's song is the most faceless pop song I've heard all year.
lovers on the sun
I'm warming to the Taylor track, it's growing on me after I initially hated it
Happy David Guetta held on to number 3, starting a run of three great dance number ones in a row!
I actually quite like 'Lovers on the Sun' and it's rather wild west themed production/video. The breakdown is underwhelming, though.
Nothing special this, much preferred his other two outputs earlier this year.
'Lovers On The Sun' isn't that bad in fairness, it's just that drop that sounds so out of place for me.
'Lovers On The Sun' is another big grower, I really like it now. I think it does the 'Avicii formula' a lot better than any actual Avicii song does it (I am aware Avicii co-produced it)

Biography
Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers while its members were still in high school. The original members of the band were: Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick; they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, The Fourth World, in 1997. After a tepid response to the album, the band parted ways with the record label and the members attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped, with James Valentine added to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5.
The band signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second and third singles, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved", became worldwide hits reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's 1.22.03.Acoustic and 2005's Live – Friday the 13th. In 2006, drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Ryan Dusick left the band and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and released in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.
Hands All Over, the band's third studio album was released in September 2010 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the album was re-released and supported by their single "Moves like Jagger" featuring American singer Christina Aguilera. The song became the band's second single to reach number one on the Hot 100 chart; it has sold over 14.4 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The band released their fourth studio album, Overexposed, in June 2012. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The first two singles from the album "Payphone" and "One More Night", were both international hits and peaked at two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively.
In 2014, the band signed Interscope Records and recorded their fifth studio album, V, which is set to be released on September 2, 2014.
Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 30.8 million digital singles and 27 million albums worldwide.
In 2013, Maroon 5 became the third most-played artist on Top 40 Mainstream radio, based on Clear Channel owned Mediabase, becoming one of the most successful acts of Interscope Records. - Wikipedia

I was actually going to keep 'Prayer In C' credited to Lilly Wood & The Prick and Robin Schulz but I notice the old LW&TP albums got taken off iTunes and re-added, now credited to just 'Lilly Wood'. They seem to really be pushing this name change
Maps is toxic even by Maroon 5's standards of late
But Prayer In C would be my favourite #1 since Rather Be
I'm happy Maroon 5 held on to Number 2. 'Maps' is quite a good song imo. Also happy Lilly Wood/Robin Schulz is Number 1 this week.
Maps is actually pretty good, their best since Daylight for me.
Such a rip off of 'Message In A Bottle', 'It Was Always You' is so far superior.
Urgh! This is not my type of music,
sales thread up
Great outcome here, 'Prayer In C' is an absolutely gorgeous track
So happy for Prayer In C getting to number one (even though I'm dreading what it's sales will be, I'm hoping for 85k minimum)
Maps is a pretty good song! Heard it a bit too much already but still a strong lead single from them.
Maps is totally amazing
Taylor continues to be an abomination though.....
yay another brilliant robin schultz remix topping the charts~
So Maps enters the chart exactly 10 years after She Will Be Loved? I definitely prefer SWBL, one of their best.
'Prayer In C' has ALSO grown on me very quickly. I still prefer 'Waves' out of the Robin Schulz remixes but 'Prayer In C' is another great #1 and if it didn't exist that terrible Maroon 5 thing would be #1 so we can only be thankful!
Maps going as high as #2 is slightly surprising. I predicted low top 10 for this I should've known better considering the amount of airplay it had I guess.
Prayer In C at #1 Robin Schulz getting a second number one smash When will your German faves eva?
This is been growing on me again ~ might possibly chart on my personal chart after a 3-month-ish break.
Maps is very average on first listen, very disappointing comeback from them. Can see where that discussion in the iTunes thread earlier came from as there is no way this would've gone as high as 2 had it been released in 2010 or something.
I actually really love Prayer In C, even amongst all these dance number 1s this year, it still stands out. Shame it doesn't look like it's first week sales are gonna be that impressive.
Another track I've heard a bit too much recently but still a very deserving number 1 & MILES better than Waves.
Prayer In C is one of my favourite number ones this year.

Jameela pronounces Prayer like will.i.am pronounces Air (Ayer).
Boo at them playing the bland Superheroes over the sensational Won't Look Back for the chart-breaker.
I was expecting Radio 1 to play Duke Dumont as their chart breaker.
Maps the first song to peak at #2 since 5SOS's Don't Stop
'Superheroes' is an extremely uninteresting song. Sounds like Scouting For Girls. Very disappointing from The Script who I usually like. (I have actually already heard this song a few times for once but might as well comment on it as it's playing now ~)
I actually think The Script's song is a lot better than some of the dross they usually come away with (i.e. all of the last album's singles).
