BuzzJack Music Forum _ Madonna _ I Rise ● Promo #1/Single #3

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd May 2019, 01:28 PM

'I Rise' is the first of four promo songs released ahead of Madame X. It's been described as a "ballad" and a "pride anthem".

Out tomorrow but available in New Zealand already. You can hear a clip here:

If I'm honest it's not doing much for me. sad.gif It's just kind of 'okay'. For what's supposed to be an uplifting message, it's just a bit flat. Not really seeing how its lyrics are specific to the LGBTQ community either, it's a pretty generic message.

Posted by: vibe 2nd May 2019, 06:02 PM

It is very instant unlike Medellin . Very mirwais.

Good choice for a promo single. I like it a lot but it’s not medellin and I hope it’s not being released so Medellin is forgotten about because I love it .

Ninth on New Music Friday. I like it a lot more in full, still not essential listening but I can see it growing a fair bit, especially in the context of the album.

Posted by: slowdown73 2nd May 2019, 11:11 PM

Her voice sounds dreadful like a little girl. It’s a better track than medellin but I still won’t be buying the album.

Posted by: vibe 3rd May 2019, 05:30 AM

Number 86 on iTunes this morning .

Does not compare to medellin but it is just a grat.
On the tour this will be epic.

You sound like a little girl , ‘and I still won’t be buying the album’. Whinge!

I like the pre-chorus parts the most!

It's nice. I'm still waiting for that real "wow" moment from this era though.

Posted by: davidas 3rd May 2019, 09:21 AM

I don't hate this, but I don't love it either.

I'm sure the album will have some absolute gems, but neither of the 2 she's released so far have impressed me massively. sad.gif

Do we think this is the song for eurovision?

Posted by: Medellíam 3rd May 2019, 10:16 AM

There's rumours that it is but it's all a bit up in the air at the moment, there's three songs in contention but nothing official yet.

Posted by: blacksquare 3rd May 2019, 11:54 AM

It's fine.

I'm just glad the mastering is not an issue anymore.

#29 UK

Posted by: Medellíam 3rd May 2019, 12:58 PM

Find myself returning to this a fair bit now actually, really starting to grow. Doesn't sound like a single but I think it will work really nicely as an album closer - if she explores some deeper themes throughout the album then this would complete the journey on something that's uplifting and easy.

Posted by: vibe 3rd May 2019, 02:15 PM

I Rise is also 83 in UK .

Two versions in top 100.

Could this outpeak Medellin because it's had a Friday release?

Cut the sarcastic remarks...would you rather I say it’s great when it isn’t?
it’s not a whinge. I just don’t like what I’m hearing...

Posted by: HausofTove 3rd May 2019, 06:13 PM

Let's move on from the personal stuff please - ironically goes against the message of this song! tongue.gif

Posted by: RobBob 3rd May 2019, 10:33 PM

This is cute! Nothing groundbreaking but after Medellin was a bit more left field, this is nice as a calmer moment. It kind of feels a tad dated but it's cute and easily accessible.

Posted by: vibe 8th May 2019, 03:55 PM

I must admit I got bored of this quite quickly .
The chorus let down the song ,
It is repeated too many times ...

Posted by: Medellíam 12th May 2019, 01:16 AM

Just made the UK Sales Top 40, entering at #40.

Video for 'I Rise' on Time Magazine's site: https://time.com/5608577/madonna-i-rise-video/

QUOTE
“Freedom,” sings Madonna, “is what you choose to do with what’s been done to you.” This lyric from the artist’s new song “I Rise,” off her 14th studio album Madame X, is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. A new video inspired by the song, created by Madonna and TIME Studios, weaves together footage of the survivors of the Parkland shooting, supporters of LGBTQ equality, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman’s powerful testimony about sexual abuse, first responders to natural disasters and other social justice movements. The video, directed by Peter Matkiwsky, tells the story of a global population fighting for rights, recognition and survival. TIME Studios recently released its first feature film, “Amazing Grace.”

Wow, this really elevates the song for me! So uplifting. <3

Posted by: vibe 19th June 2019, 08:46 PM

She has released the teaser on Facebook . It’s good.

Posted by: HausofTove 22nd June 2019, 10:10 PM

In the context of the album and as its closer, this has significantly grown on me!

Posted by: Medellíam 30th June 2019, 04:15 PM

^I agree! It was my least favourite of the pre-release songs but I really like it now. It's strong in its own right now as well as being a great, uplifting closer. The TIME music video definitely elevated it for me.

Tracy Young remix

It’s not for me

Posted by: Medellíam 4th July 2019, 12:26 PM

Yeah, doesn't really do it for me either. It's a pretty generic production, not really any consideration for the emotion of the song.

Madonna Earns 48th No. 1 on Dance Club Songs Chart With 'I Rise'

"It is always an honor to work with Madonna," remixer Tracy Young tells Billboard.
Madonna earns her record-extending 48th No. 1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart (dated Aug. 31), as "I Rise" ascends 2-1.

The chart, and all rankings dated Aug. 31, will refresh on Billboard.com on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

With 48 toppers on Dance Club Songs, which measures reports submitted by a national sample of club DJs and which launched as a national survey in the Billboard issue dated Aug. 28, 1976, Madonna outpaces runner-up Rihanna (33 No. 1s), while Beyoncé and Janet Jackson follow with 22 and 20, respectively.

"Rise" is the second leader from Madonna's album Madame X, following "Medellín" with Maluma. The song led the June 29-dated Dance Club Songs chart, while Madame X launched as Madonna's ninth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 the same week.

Wow they really thought this was going to be some kind of anthem . I liked this initially and now it grates.

Posted by: HausofF 7th September 2019, 11:43 AM

It's already hit No. 1 on Dance Club Songs Chart, how many remixes are they doing? laugh.gif

Imagine giving this much promo to a lead single ~

Posted by: vibe 11th September 2019, 06:17 AM

Why are they pushing this out of all the songs.

I will buy it tho 🙈

Posted by: Medellíam 11th September 2019, 09:54 AM

I really don't know what demand there is for this. As Bal pointed out, the record company already have the Billboard Club Play #1 if that's what they were aiming for. They advertised this as some sort of "anthem for the gay community" but the reaction to the song really hasn't really matched their expectations. 'God Control' or 'I Don't Search, I Find' would be much more suitable, either that or start giving a proper push for 'Crave'.

Posted by: dandy* 11th September 2019, 10:15 AM

I Don’t Search I Find has such potential for remixers! I really hope we get a bundle for that.

Posted by: vibe 11th September 2019, 03:09 PM

I Rise is my 3rd least fav on the album.

They obviously thought it would be a lot bigger.

Some amazing videos this era but not for the commercial songs.

Where are the god control remixes ?

Posted by: HausofF 11th September 2019, 08:26 PM

I have really grown to like I Rise especially as an album closer after the experience of listening to Madame X, but it needs to remain an album closer. A huge anthem worthy of this pushing it is not I'm afraid.

Posted by: girlsaloudjunkie 12th September 2019, 12:54 AM

I don't get the general consensus that I Rise isn't that good!
For me it was extremely instant moreso than Medellin on first listen and sits in my top 3 from Madame X. I think it's stunning!

Posted by: Medellíam 8th October 2019, 09:47 PM

Link to the release on the Record Store Day site here: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/11766

4,000 copies available.

Also, as Juan Carlos revealed in the Madame X thread, this has been sent to Italian radio as the third single. Hopefully this can be sent to UK radio too, I mean there's a handful of other songs I'd rather were pushed as a single but I just want something!

Posted by: HausofF 9th October 2019, 05:57 AM

Cone on Radio 2! Wishful thinking though ~
