Thought I'd make a separate thread for this since I imagine we'll be speculating/hyping this for a while to come laugh.gif

I'm super pumped for this (as I said in the other Pokemon thread rn), but I'm also intrigued as to whether this will be a future series of "Pokemon Legends" mainline games. Potentially going to each region and focusing on the lore around a major mythical Pokemon. Think Pokemon Legends: Celebi set in feudal Johto and we get to witness the Brass Tower burn down and then Ho-Oh's creation of the dog trio. It could possibly even feature Celebi's time travelling abilities and take us to the distant future where some current day Pokemon are only seen as fossils in a museum (Lapras, Stantler, Mamoswine, Corsola. etc.).

Also I guess Pokemon Legends: Deoxys, Genesect, Hoopa, could be cool but I don't have many ideas for story laugh.gif

I'm not too sure what to make of it so far laugh.gif

It's definitely something I'll wait to see the reviews of before purchasing!

Pokemon Legends: Bidoof, make it happen.

Seriously though, I wasn't all that gripped by the clip we had yesterday, so I'm yet to make a decision on whether I will want to buy it or not.

Yeah me too, can't say at the minute based on what we saw that I'm overly excited for this. I know it will be early footage, beta/proof of concept, but it looks barren and really quite basic. The idea is good, and I like the ATB style battle system it seems to have as something different, they do have over a year so I think it should come out good in the end, I hope they don't rush it and push it back if needed.

I’ve been mulling over this for a bit and I think the spin-off being more of a period piece instead of taking place during present day is a bold move and the key draw point for the game and potential series. We get to see Sinnoh centuries before the events of D/P/Pt and mechanics are gonna be wildly different as a result. I’m wondering if this and future games of the like will bring forth aspects of real life history (although in the case of anything past Gen 4 it’s gonna get complicated bc the Western world kinda has a f*cked up history), it could really rope in the history buffs.

This is only a couple of weeks away and I actually lowkey think it will be shit? laugh.gif It just looks really empty to me, and I'm just not sure I trust Game Freak to get something so different right. Maybe a change is what's needed, but this game just seems like it's going round an empty widespread world battling and catching the same Pokemon ad nauseam so far. The leaked new Pokemon do look really interesting so I'm wondering if they'll be patched into SwSh for competitive maybe, or they'll kind of be a waste. Idk I've just got a gut feeling I'll be hugely disappointed.

Perhaps it will just not be my type of game, I'm not that keen on Monster Hunter for example.

I watched more detailed playthough this morning... I'll be honest I'm not hyped for this at all. Looks alright, but they've put zero energy into marketing this at all. I think they're just kinda throwing the game out there expecting we will just buy it.

The gameplay I watched explained the game a bit better. However I doubt it will be something I'll immediately purchase and start playing. Just picked up Mario Odyssey last weekend so that will keep me entertained.

Why couldn’t they have just done an open world based on the first region, then add the following regions and Pokémon as dlc, kind of like Pokémon revolution.

Yeah I agree, they heard that we wanted open world so they kinda did the bare minimum of that and they know with the Pokemon name behind it, people will buy it.

Take the Pokemon name out of the equation and this is a budget Breath Of The Wild tbh. It's just not good enough for a name of this calibre and doesn't excite me at all. There does seem to be bits of substance to it, but I can't help but think it will all be rushed or hollow. It could have done with a longer development cycle to be honest, I know they outsourced BDSP so that Game Freak could focus on this but it still needed longer to flesh it out and in that time, we could have got a proper open world game.

The starter forms have really pushed me further into the camp of not bothering with the game, those are..... something else. Samurott's is ok

I think they’ll just take some time getting used to and I’m sure will look better in game.

Me too, after seeing it so far I've not really been excited by any of it.

I hope more Pokemon get added to it over time.

I won't spoil things, but I've been keeping an eye on the datamine and actually seems a LOT better than I thought! I think they were trying to basically give the bare minimum away pre-release, I didn't think they had the foresight to actually do that lmao

I think I will still wait to see more and see how the reception/reviews are but it's pulling me back a little more.

I've seen a few vids on TikTok and it actually looks pretty great from a battling and interacting with Pokemon perspective. The landscape is pretty sparse, but I'm sure that was the intention given it's set many many years ago. I'm looking forward to getting it.

The red eyes are going to give me nightmares though. You'll see what I mean.

Been playing for a couple of hours before I go to bed, it's definitely better than I expected! There's a lot more to it than the trailers led us to believe, however it is does seem like it's going to be very grind-y. The controls and mechanics are great though and it's fun and very weird in a good way to be learning new mechanics and not quite know what you're doing in a Pokemon way, it's exciting in a way the franchise hasn't been for... ever?

I honestly wasn't going to bother with this, but the reviews have been overwhelming positive so far.
It's fun, definitely something different and a new way of Pokemon to learn for sure. Lots to learn with the controls and mechanics. So far so good!
