12th Love Don't Live Here Anymore = 3 Votes



For the 2nd round in a row we say goodbye to yet another single from 'STR', 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore', a rare Madonna cover originally sung by Rose Royce back in 1978, and funnily enough this was the 2nd time she covered the song, in which it originally featured on her 2nd album 'Like A Virgin' back in 1984. The idea to cover the song originated from Michael Ostin, the head of the A&R department of Warner Bros. Records and throughout the years the song has remained a favourite of Madonna's and would later rework it for her 'STR' collection in 1995.

This version was quite different from the original composition that includes violins and uilleann pipes, and you can really tell how Madonna's vocals have matured through the years with an arrangement that really suits her. The song was released as the album's final single in March 1996 in countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia and France, and due to poor promo the song didn't perform as well as previous releases especially in the USA where it managed a mere #78 peak, becoming her 36th chart entry and her first cover to chart. But had managed top 40 tops in Australia and Canada.
