BuzzJack Music Forum _ Madonna _ Favourite 'Like A Prayer' era music video

Posted by: Hauspital* May 10 2020, 06:49 PM

Continuing a look back at the music videos of each era, we go now to Like A Prayer which saw Madonna throwing out the rule book and completely revolutionising the music video game. We had burning crosses, the most expensive music video filmed at the time, mermen, a grieving daughter, and an animated fairy. Which of the music videos released in this iconic era is your favourite?

Feel free to also rank the music videos below:

Like a Prayer
Express Yourself
Cherish
Oh Father
Dear Jessie

What an era for music videos!

'Express Yourself' is a favourite of mine because of its influence from 'Metropolis' but can I vote for anything other than 'Like a Prayer'? No, I can't.

Shocked that 'Express Yourself' is yet to receive a vote ohmy.gif Is it coming in second place for a lot of people and just missing out?

1) Express Yourself
2) Oh Father
3) Like a Prayer
4) Cherish
5) Dear Jessie

Finally giving 'Express Yourself' a vote! cheer.gif The cinematography and set designs makes the video so grand and impressive. Madonna's styling and choreography are clearly striking and iconic, but the way they're used to explore sexuality and deconstruct gender stereotypes makes it all the more special.

The video for 'Oh Father' really drives the story home. A moving, sometimes difficult, watch, but finishing with a poignant, hopeful end, much like the song itself.

'Like a Prayer' is obviously a classic with its powerful imagery, storyline and message, but I don't think the execution flows as well as her other classic music videos. I know it copies the style of a play so some elements are simplified but that just takes me out of the video sometimes.

'Cherish' and 'Dear Jessie' are quite simple in comparison but they compliment their songs well.
