BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ BuzzJack - Only Connect

Posted by: Doctor Blind 17th October 2021, 09:21 AM

Hello and welcome to Week 3 of the Chart Forum Quiz, this week it is the turn of the most fiendish and addictive quiz on TV (although for the lawyers reading, any similarity is merely coincidental obvs).

In a twist to how it usually works, the connections, sequences and missing vowels rounds are all music based with two additional music video clues in each of the first two rounds. This is to make things a little easier. Though a lot of the answers are quite tough, and I'm afraid recycled from my family zoom quizes last year as I didn't have a lot of time to come up with new stuff so soz about that. Within the first two rounds instead of egyptian hieroglyphs we have used popular music formats. PM me with your answers clearly labelled to Rounds 1, 2 and 4 at any time through the week, see below for the rules..

The Rules:

In Round 1 all you have to do is guess the connection between each set of four clues. Round 2 is the sequences round. Once again the clues are all connected, but this time the order is key. I will only reveal up to three clues in total. You need to tell me what the fourth clue should be. Note that there may be more than one valid answer. Round 3 is The Wall - this is a wall of 16 clues where you must figure out a perfect solution, consisting of four groups of four connected items. This is hosted https://www.flexiquiz.com/SC/N/d908b5bb-6f66-4a54-bb3c-f95f811e0809 but note- you will only get 4 minutes to see the wall and come up with your perfect solution so don't attempt it until you feel ready. Finally Round 4 is the ever popular missing vowels round where I will give you the connection and also even give you the answers - just with the vowels missing. All you need to do is tell me what those complete answers are with the missing vowels included. For example, if the answer was THE BUZZJACK FRIDAY CHART SHOW, without the vowels that would be TH BZZJCK FRDY CHRT SHW. That, however, would be too easy so the letters are scrunged up and spaces are inserted randomly so that the words are not separated properly. That could give us THBZ ZJCKF RDYCH R THSHW.

Instead of audio clues, there are two music video clues in each of Round 1 and 2- here you'll be given a (roughly) full 40 seconds blast of each clue.

Clue 1 is already live. Feel free to attempt any/as many question(s) as you wish (you don’t have to make a full submission just enter any answers you are confident with), answer correctly at this point and you will receive 5 points for each correct connection/answer. Don't be disheartened if they seem impossible, they are meant to at this stage.. they will become clearer through the next few days as I post more clues.

NOTE - You only get ONE attempt. An incorrect answer will preclude you from scoring any more points for that particular question. So choose carefully when to answer! If you are close I will PM you and try to, like Victoria, get you to ‘have another go’… but you can answer at any time this week, though if you wait until more clues are posted you will be awarded fewer points.

Clue 2 will be posted on Monday at midday BST - enter after this correctly and you will receive 3 points.
Clue 3 will be posted on Tuesday at midday BST - enter after this correctly and you will receive 2 points.
Any FINAL clues will be posted on Thursday - enter after this correctly and you will receive 1 point (of course this is not possible with the sequences round).

There is a total of 10 points available from Round 3 (1 for each correct group and for each correct connection plus a bonus 2 if you get everything correct) and 1 point for each correct answer in the final Missing Vowels round.

Googling is discouraged, but you may Google once all four clues have been given as some problem solving is required and some are quite difficult, BUT please don’t do so beforehand as it’s just a bit of fun and you are only cheating yourself!

The final deadline is 23:59 on Sunday 24 October 2021.

Good luck !

Please screenshot or make a note of your four groups before the time is over as these are not posted for you unfortunately on the next screen where you need to explain the connections, however on the next screen there is no time limit to complete this. Yay my favourite type of quiz is back *.*

I've never watched Only Connect so bear with me...are we just giving one answer for Round 1? The four images and the two videos all share the same connection? And then Round 2 will have six answers (one for each image/video) or just one answer?

No problem! No, there are 6 connections in Round 1 (Vinyl, Cassette Tape, Compact Disc, MiniDisc, Digital Download and Online Streaming are each different and require a separate answer) and 6 sequences in Round 2 (same formats). There is only 1 clue at the moment posted for each so it is very difficult to come up with a connection for Round 1, and work out what clue comes fourth for Round 2. The second clue for each connection and sequence will be posted at 12 today and the remainder later this week.

Some correct answers already coming in though, I'll put Clue 2 up at midday. : )

not sure if I understand it either... and where is clue 1?

Sorry, I probably didn't explain it that well. The full rules of the game are explained https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_Connect and the process here is much the same.

So far I have only posted 1 clue in each connection/sequence of Rounds 1 and 2. So if you were tackling the Vinyl question in Round 1, Clue 1 would be the video clip posted beneath it. If you were tackling the Vinyl question in Round 2, Clue 1 is the blue square that says 'Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (1993)'. Hope that helps Bjork?

Computer: Simplify!

Clue 2 is now up- you can now score 3 points for each correct connection and sequence.

If I'm unable to participate until, say, Wednesday, after 3 clues have been posted, do I still have the option of only viewing one or two of them before I enter my answer? Or will all 3 clues be visible as soon as I click on the question and therefore only lower points available?

Excited for this but may not get time for the next couple of days.

(Also v unlikely that I'll get anything from two clues or less but thought I may as well check just in case!)

Our messages must have crossed in cyberspace! I've just seen the update, which answers my question!

Posted by: dandy* 18th October 2021, 11:27 AM

Loving some of these clues laugh.gif

I've just attempted the Wall part of the quiz - it's not quite as easy as it first appears! ohmy.gif

Oh I can delay the 3rd clue until Wednesday if ppl would like more time?

Are we OK to submit answers bit by bit as we get them or would you prefer one set of answers per day?

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 18th October 2021, 09:45 PM

Only just seen this but not convinced I would have got any earlier! Given it a few shots anyway.

Oh dear just ballsed up that wall big time laugh.gif

🙈 oops! Clue 3 will be delayed until midday tomorrow so you've still got time to grab 3 points for the connections/sequences, but if you are still struggling in the meantime why not play Pete's http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=249488.

The wall is SO HARD without correct groups being 'banked' so you only have the left over clues to sort out from that point on.

Plus I think I wrote the same clue in both of the groups I submitted.

And didn't take a screenshot so had to rely on memory for guessing links.

Apart from that it went great!

Posted by: Doctor Blind 20th October 2021, 10:30 AM

I've put up Clue 3 now- for the sequences round there are no further clues to come because I want to know what the fourth clue would be of course.

There is one more to come in Round 1 and I'll try and post that on Friday. Keep the guesses coming, don't mind if you send them as/when you get them!

Posted by: chrissmith276 21st October 2021, 09:01 PM

Oh dear - wall was a disaster!

Posted by: jimwatts 21st October 2021, 09:10 PM

I didn't have a great wall either - think I just about got one group in the time, and two of the connections. I've since worked out what I think everything should have been, not that it matters now!

Looks like I will definitely need to make sure my brain is fully in gear before doing the wall laugh.gif

Yep. And don’t go numb with terror and stare blankly at it for 2 minutes before you start doing anything. No idea why I did that - it’s only a quiz! laugh.gif

Posted by: Doctor Blind 22nd October 2021, 11:13 AM

Oh sorry everyone, I feel like I made the time limit far too harsh now. They only have 2m 30s in the real thing but of course as you get the groups it does at least narrow down your options!

Clue 4 going up now for Round 1. Don't forget you've got until midnight on Sunday to finalise everything.

Well I've given the wall a go I guess!

Posted by: Chig66 24th October 2021, 12:03 AM

This has been a splendid way to spend the last hour or so! Thank you.
I was doing quite well until I got to the quotes from a certain radio presenter, so there's now a big gap of four answers.
Anyway, they're coming now...

Posted by: Suedehead2 24th October 2021, 12:07 PM

Failed spectacularly on the wall. I could find lots of groups of three but not so many groups of four laugh.gif

Posted by: dandy* 24th October 2021, 12:20 PM

The Wall was indeed quite a harsh one - although very well thought through. There is one potential theme in particular that threw me completely until the very end when I realised it simply couldn't be a group of 4.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 24th October 2021, 06:48 PM

Yes- the wall is very mean and sneaky (don't say: matches my personality!! mad.gif )

You've got a few more hours to submit your final answers, though I'll allow some flexibility around the deadline and will try to present the results around 4PM tomorrow as to not conflict with Jade's semi final results for BJSC139.

Thanks to everyone who has given it a go.

Posted by: CJK 24th October 2021, 08:43 PM

Had a good go at this.

But when you haven't got a clue about Jameela Jamil, you sometimes just have to give up!!

Pretty pleased with what else I managed to do... but The Wall was tough!!

Posted by: awardinary 24th October 2021, 08:47 PM

Just going to put it out there, I’m not overly familiar with this quiz and I’ve already concluded from the comments of others that it’s too complicated! So I’ll pass this time. tongue.gif

Thank you for agreeing to host though!
