Have you noticed that it's becoming increasingly more common for a single to be released on CD in the UK?

Although CD singles never completely vanished, they did feel particularly uncommon in the mid to late 2010s.

2021 releases include...

ABBA - Don't Shut Me Down
ABBA - I Still Have Faith in You
Anne-Marie & Niall Horan - Our Song
Cardi B - Up
Coldplay - Higher Power
Coldplay & BTS - My Universe
Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits
Ed Sheeran - Shivers
Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)
Jesy Nelson feat. Nicki Minaj - Boyz
Justin Bieber - Anyone
Katy Perry - Electric
Lizzo & Cardi B - Rumors
Nathan Dawe & Little Mix - No Time for Tears
Nathan Evans - Wellerman *
Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license *
Regard, Troye Sivan & Tate McRae - You
Sugababes - Overload [Free promo - included in One Touch album bundles]
The Weeknd - Take My Breath
Years & Years - Starstruck

Forthcoming:
Craig David & MNEK - Who You Are
Kylie Minogue and Years & Years - A Second to Midnight
The Wanted - Rule the World

* These were released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but ended up being sold by Amazon and being eligible for the UK chart.

Can you think of any other recent CD singles, or forthcoming ones?

Did you buy any of the above?

Would you like for this revival to continue, and for even more singles to be released on CD?

Others -

Dermot Kennedy - Giants
Dermot Kennedy - Better Days

I’m sure with sales increasing and them being a low priced/easily produced item they will become more widespread especially in chart battles (similar to how cassettes have for albums) - https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...-format__34089/

I love the fact we're getting some more CD singles! wub.gif I always like to buy them for artists / songs I like. I have these:

Anne-Marie & Niall Horan - Our Song
Cardi B - Up (+ the alternate artwork version)
Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits (+ the alternate artwork version)
Ed Sheeran - Shivers (on the way)
Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)
Justin Bieber - Anyone
Katy Perry - Electric
Lizzo & Cardi B - Rumors
Nathan Dawe & Little Mix - No Time for Tears
Regard, Troye Sivan & Tate McRae - You
Years & Years - Starstruck

Considering buying Jesy but not sure. Kylie is expensive but I'd like it! laugh.gif Would like to add Olivia and Sugababes to my collection at some stage if possible!

Nice article about this on OCC
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...-format__34089/

Others I've bought recently

Katy Perry - Electric
Lady Gaga - Rain On Me/Stupid Love
Dermot Kennedy - Giants
Grace Davies - Roots
LadBaby - Don't Stop Believin'
Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved/Bruises
Westlife - Hello My Love/Better Man
The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

I guess labels have seen them as an easy way to make a few extra quid. The main reason they used to lose money wasn't the cost to manufacture them, but the cost to distribute them to stores around the country. Now you can sell them direct to the customer and charge them for the postage so it's all profit really.

It's a shame that many of them only have the 1 track on them and but hope we continue to see them released.

I've bought quite a lot of vinyl singles in recent times but just a couple of CD singles available in the U.K. over the past 12 months - I got Ariana's 'positions' CD single and also the signed Sugababes 'Overload' CD as an extra for their 'One Touch' anniversary vinyl. I did get Ari's '34+35 Remix' too but that was only available via her U.S. store so I got it through eBay. I'd only buy them for artists I collect merchandise for (mostly Ariana and Måneskin for modern acts) but otherwise I'm not really a CD person - vinyl collecting is enough for me laugh.gif

It's cool to see these making a bit of a comeback anyway ~ much appreciated for CD collectors, diehard fans and as a chart boost.

It’s good to see cd singles making a bit of a comeback but some of them are only 1 track and seem pointless to me.

They are great for collectors items so far more appealing these days than a download. I just wish we got b-sides in more of them to incentivise fans to get the exclusive content. If the artists I followed released some with b-sides, I would definitely pick up the cd.

He’s releasing two this week (Seventeen Going Under & Long Way Off) and he’s gone old school and has b-sides on each one that haven’t been released elsewhere.

Ed Sheeran - Shivers (on the way)

Was that the original batch of signed ones on the official webstore? Got an email last week saying that a batch of them were lost in transit and they are issuing refunds to everyone affected. I was lucky enough to spot them when they released another batch a couple of weeks ago.

Got the Elton John one this morning and was pleased to see it's in an old skool plastic case and has 2 tracks. Have also got the 2 signed Ed Sheeran ones and the Bad Habits alternative sleeve as well the Abba ones.

I have two of the Overload Signed singles wub.gif was stoked to see them release a limited CD single print too along with the various other formats.

I am still a huge collector of physical media, my CD and DVD collection is actually something I’m quite proud of, so I’m absolutely here for more physical formats making a comeback. Like sure it gets ripped onto iTunes and my personal cloud almost immediately but there’s just something about holding a physical copy

I think fans of artists tgey follow would love vinyl and cd options for singles and ideally they would be sold as a bundle.

How unusual! I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago as well, got an email during the week to say it'll be shipped from week beginning 15th October.

It will be interesting to see if the CD single revival can grow or if it ends up like the 7" vinyl revival of the mid 00s, a fad that just doesn't last. I remember my local HMV reintroducing a top 20 display for 7" singles in 2004 or 2005 but by the end of the decade vinyl single sales had collapsed once again. I wonder how many people buy a CD single but (like cassettes now and those vinyl singles from the 00s) have no way of actually playing them.

They were done as a pre-sale at the begining of September and an email was sent out on 8th September to say they had been dispatched. Don't know if it was all of them but the official Facebook page was filled with complaints from people saying they never received them. Then on 24th September there was another batch released for sale - again through the official store. Whereas the missing ones were sent through Hermes the new ones were sent via Royal Mail and all seemed to arrive ok (mine was dispatched on Monday 27th and arrived the following day). They were still investigating the missing ones at this time and eventually they came to the conclusion that they were lost in transit and sent an email out last weekend to say that anyone affected would be given a refund.

Don’t buy cds much think the last one was Band Aid 30 or maybe another Xmas single I picked up by chance in HMV over the years but like last December was my last physical single purchase and that was Liam Gallaghers Xmas release and it was on vinyl.

When your married and have kids coming suddenly your wife puts pressure on you to get rid of your prized collections 🥲
